1750/1750 Borderlands

Positives: the main content and the Knoxx DLC
Negatives: slugging through Mad Moxxie & all the stupid collecting in the Claptrap DLC

Anyway, ready for Borderlands 2 icon_smile.gif
I only need the viral achievement to get me to 1000 in Borderlands!

I recently got 1000 in:
Asura's Wrath
Red Faction Armageddon
Kingdoms of Amalur

They were all pretty easy 1000s. Red Faction Armageddon was the easiest of the three.

Asura's Wrath got a bit tedious with requirements of multiple playthroughs. The playthrough with lowered health was pretty difficult. Some fights were harder than fights in Ninja Gaiden 3 on Hard.

Kingdoms of Amalur was OK 1000. Collecting 10 of each plants was the last to be completed and was a bit of a hassle. I wished that the fight mechanic was a bit better, and it felt clunky. I played a spellcaster and most of the spells sucked and a lot of the upper level baddies tended to be immune to magic. There was one boss early on that I just couldn't defeat and that annoyed me heaps. Once I got the meteor spell, it got much more fun.
Just completed Adventures of Tintin for 1000/1000.

Not a bad little game, but I guess it is aimed more at the younger audience than myself. Got a little repetitive, but easy 1000.
Finally got 1000/1000 on Battlefield 3. Some of the multiplayer achievements are so hard to get and depends a lot on luck, which defeats the purpose of achievements in my view.

Great game, now I can just play without worrying up levelling up or getting achievements.
Just finished CoD:MW3 for 1000/1000.

Campaign must be one of the easiest. But I think they got the balance right. Previously Infinity Ward/Treyarch have got difficulty mixed up with annoying. I think the campaign was tough but able to be completed without the annoyance from the previous games. No nade spamming and no (almost no) inifinite enemy respawns.

Spec Ops Missions was tough, some of them were really tough. There was a mixture of missions easier solo, and some missions where doing co-op was much easier.

Survival Mode was definitely tough. But I felt that the Hard maps were more difficult than the Insane maps. Those maps where you had no cover from the choppers were especially difficult.

Infinity Ward again got the achievements right. They consistently make satisfying achievements, and no multiplayer achievements (I think they should be banned, really).
Just completed Captain America: Super Soldier for 1000/1000.

Simple game, but it looked great. It was also a great fun. Nothing annoying. Even on the Easy difficulty, I died a few times on boss battled, but it was kept interesting. The game stat says just over 7 hours in the campaign, which included time running around getting collectibles.

After the game, you play challenge mode for the final few achievements, and it was quite fun. Nothing taxing, but that made it that much more relaxing.

It's nice to play a game and get the full achievements without getting super stressed.
Just completed Deus Ex Human Revolution for 1000/1000.

It's a weird mix where sometimes it looks awesome (graphically) yet at other times it looks like a 5 year old game. A lot of orange in the future, LOL.

Achievements wise it's pretty straight forward, playing it on the hardest difficulty wasn't taxing. But the hacking mini game got old real quickly. Because of the achievement where you have to go through the whole game without setting off alarms, I had to constantly load my last save - I think I spent more time looking at the loading screen than actually playing the game. It's a very badly designed achievement in my view. I was also afraid that I would miss a collectable that I had to constantly refer to a guide - again, a design flaw I think.

In retrospect, I think it would have been a fun game if I didn't obsess about the achievements and just played it guns blazing. It would also have been a very short game too, as there aren't much to the main story line game.
Re: Gaming Bargains V2 (1 year ago)
You can sort the Xbox 360 games list on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_games, ones that says YES are 360 exclusives. And there aren't that many I would call 'must haves', sadly.
Completed Portal 2 for 1000/1000. Pretty cool game, some of the co-op chambers were a real brain bender. There was an achievement to finish 9 chambers in a row (all of course 4) in co-op and we'd get to like 7 of 9 or 8 of 9 and accidentally dying forcing us to restart, LOL.

Overall, it was a fun 1000. Achievement requiring 3 friends to hug sucked though.

Waiting for the free DLC in a few weeks to see what that may give us.
Completed Bastion for 200/200. Pretty decent game, very pretty. Plays pretty well, and you can make it hard or easy, whatever you feel like. I thought that the unlocks and weapon upgrades came a bit slow to my liking, but when I played New Game+ for the achievements, the game could be played in a very short time, so I guess I just took a little longer mucking about on the first playthrough.

I was not a fan of the maps where you can pretty much fall off everywhere. You roll to evade/dodge, but since you can't control much when rolling, I tended to fall off the edge, so in the end, I didn't use it frequently, which sort of defeats the purpose of putting it in the game. Same with weapons with kick backs - you shoot and you get knocked off the edge, so again, some weapons are cool and all, but I didn't end up using it because it causes you to fall off the edge.

Overall, pretty neat little game, and short, easy 200.
Just completed MySims Sky Heroes for 1000/1000. I bought it mainly because it was super cheap and it kinda looked fun. Achievement guide said "3/10" in difficulty, but I think it is harder than that.

The game, I think, is OK, sort of like Mario Kart with the added extra dimension (from flying). But because the AI 'cheats' so much (rubber banding, impossible maneuvers) it made it extremely frustrating. I can't convey in words how frustrating it was. The game isn't hard, but the annoyance and frustration was high. Some missions I had to do like dozen times to get Gold for the achievement. I would have the highest kill count in a dogfight, yet I was coming last, I had no idea how the scoring worked.

There are cut scenes you couldn't skip, adding to the annoyance. And once the story mode is finished, I had to grind out the X kills with Y weapons achievement for hours.

The planes flew and controlled well I thought, and graphics were cutesy and bright. If not for the AI cheating and the grinding after the story, I think it was a pretty decent game. Pity the developers ruined by these additions.
Just completed Shadows of the Damned for 1000/1000. Pretty cool game, baddies reminds me of Ninja Gaiden, controls are definitely Resident Evil, and the use of light/dark reminded me of Alan Wake.

Not being able to skip cutscenes sucked, especially on Hard difficulty because I died a lot, and had to watch the same cutscenes multiple times. Difficulty achievements don't stack, so you have to play it three times if you want all the achievements. First play through took a while getting all the collectibles and miscellaneous achievements, but the 2nd and third runs were pretty quick 5hours each maybe? Did the final run in one day, starting in early afternoon, with breaks.

Dialogue and one liners are hilarious, even on the third playthrough, I still laughed on few occasions.
Yeah, Firefight on ODST was tough, but I enjoyed it heaps because I did with my best mate. It took like 2 ~ 3 hours per map so we were only crossing off 1 map per night. I would imagine having more players would make it easier?

Have you got the ODST achievement where you have to do the Highway on Legendary without the Warthogs (where you get the 'goose and 999 rockets each)? My mate and I tried that just with 2 of us, each using two controllers (achievement required 4 players), but we just couldn't do it.

We could help you out with the Firefight if you wanted to do the Highway achievement? Just need one more player to make it four.

When it comes to achievements, no grind is not worth it icon_razz.gif
So what would have been your worst grind for an achievement? I remember grinding to get to level 50 in Shadow Complex, and playing Just Cause 2 until getting the 75% complete achievement. I did a fair bit of grind to try and get rare drops in Too Human (and I didn't get the drops, so no achievement). 1000 miles on Dirt took a long time too.

Btw 1mpr3gn4t0r, how come you can't just go back to Naruto and get the coins? Is it glitched or something?
I actually went back a few months after I first gave up and spent two days looking for the last few remaining coins and I didn't find any, LOL. It's one of those collectibles where there's no indication that you've actually nabbed it before, so when you re-visit the location, you don't know if you've grabbed it, or if it's hidden well and still there. There are several locations and no indication on how many in each area you've collected, just the grand total. The recommendation on the achievement forums is to not collect any coins (which is hard to do) until you've progressed enough in the story to have all the necessary areas unlocked and skills upgraded, and then collect them all.

Yeah, I may re-start the game one day, maybe during the summer break. But the game also have multiplayer achievements, which I'll never be able to get, so even if I get all the coins, I won't have 1000, so...

So why did you finish the game?
Good question. I think I'm very mildly OCD, and I like to finish what I start. I'm not a perfectionist by any means, but I must be a completionist. I hate leaving attainable achievements on the table - if it's possible for me to get, I have the urge to get that achievement.

I still feel a tinge of regret not being able to get all the achievements on DMC4 and missing those last few coins on Naruto Rise of a Ninja (damn collectibles!). And I know I'll never get any of those hard achievements for Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

I always look at the achievement list to see if the game can be 1000ed before I start, very stupid way to play a game I know, but that's who I am. Like now, I looked at Red Faction Armageddon vs Shadows of the Damned, and RF:A had multiplayer achievements that looked hard to get, so I picked Shadows (and enjoying it).
Just completed Alice Madness Returns for 1000/1000.

It was a huge grind in my view. The game is just way too long, and it feels like it just keeps on going. They really could have made it tighter and 5 time shorter. The chapters have no structure and have no beginning/middle/end. It just middle all the way through with mini boss after mini boss.

The combat was very clunky, and Alice would often freeze for no reason and I'd have to press the dodge button to get out of the freeze. And at other times, the game would not register my fire button and frequently missed shooting altogether. The auto-lock aiming was very haphazard as well and you could never tell who it will lock onto. Being attacked from off screen also sucked.

The platforming was super annoying because the camera worked against you and it was extremely difficult to judge depth. Plus you have to jump onto invisible platforms making it doubly annoying. There's a difference between difficult platforming and annoying platforming, and Alice was definitely the latter.

And you also have to download and complete the original American McGee's Alice to get the full 1000/1000, very unfair in my view. They should have made it so that the DLC was above an beyond the 1000 and not part of the 1000. DLC code is included in the game though, so no extra cost if you buy the original.

The graphics were top notch and beautifully presented, voice acting was great too. It started out really great, but even before the first chapter was over, you get the feeling that it's way too long.
Finished Duke Nukem Forever for 1000/1000. Very disappointing game, numerous platforming bits ruin the game. Also makes me motion sick. You have to play it twice to get all the achievements, which sucks. I'm glad that it's all over so that I don't have to play it any more.
LA Noire 1000/1000 for me too. Spent more time doing the collectibles than the actual game.

I thought that game design has progressed from making you collect useless items? And why do games still have unskippable cut scenes?

Finding the cars were a big pain, I really hate random spawn collectibles. And the 200miles achievement sucked too, just took my car to the airfield, put rubber bands on the controller and let it drive in circles until it unlocked.
Completed Mass Effect (yes, the original) for 1000/1000 just now. After 3 years and 3 playthroughs, it's finally done and dusted. Pretty funny to see that my first ME achievement was unlocked way back in July 2008, and now I have the last one unlocked in May 2011.

Last playthrough on Insanity was reasonably difficult, wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been. The ally achievements sucked and at one point, I didn't think it would unlock, but it unlocked right near the end, what a relief.

Now onto ME2! Although I don't think I'll be able to get back to Normandy so soon after this. Maybe in a few months time...

If you buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on steam today for about $6AUD, enter the CDKEY into EADM you will receive the Digital Deluxe Edition which has the Vietnam expansion in it, as well as new weapons ,etc.

Great freebie!
Hi, sorry to dig up an old thread, but did you get BC2 Vietnam enabled when you did this? I bought it on Steam, and activated it via EADM and picked the digital deluxe edition. I had to download it from EADM twice, and BC2 component is working, but every time I go to try Vietnam, it asks for a code. Do they send you a separate code for it via email? And I didn't get any unlocks or new weapons either icon_sad.gif
Just got 1000/1000 on CoD2. It's been sitting on my to-do pile for such a long time, I thought I'd take it out for a spin over the QLD long weekend. Several tough bits, but it never really felt like the AI was cheating like it did on Homefront's hardest setting. And CoD2 actually looked and played better too, LOL. Good achievements since I didn't have to worry about stupid collectibles, or tight time limits or going through a level without firing a shot or whatever other stupid achievements developers put in a game these days. All you have to do is just play, enjoy and finish on Veteran, and you get all the achievements.
Just completed de Blob 2 for 1000/1000. Boy, it's gotta be one of the hardest games I've played, so annoying. It started so great and relaxing, rolling around, colouring in buildings, then the difficulty ramps up. The camera gets in the way and auto-targetting never works consistently so I ended up dying heaps just from the bad auto targetting. Save points gets very sparse and you die in one hit, and you have to restart from the save point which is like half an hour ago, it really sucked. Why did they make it so hard? So annoying, I'm glad that it's all over now.

I also did MegaMind for 1000/1000 last weekend, along with Harm' Way for 200/200. MegaMind was fun, although it had a nasty glitch where the controls would freeze if you beat a boss without dying. AND beating each boss without dying is an achievement! So I would have to beat the boss without dying first, achievement unlocks, then it would freeze, so I'll have to replay the whole level again, and this time purposely die at the boss fight to continue. Had to do that at levels 3, 6 and 9.

Now I can start playing Portal 2 !
Re: Cheap HDD (2 years ago)
Catch of the Day have the 250GB for $70 + post today.
Wow, 1000/1000 on GH2 is truly awesome. Congrats.

I went back and finished off Pac-man CE DX for 200/200. Very cool game, bright and colourful. It does get manic once you start speeding up. It caters to the noobs like me and makes the whole pac-man experience much easier to get into. Not sure if it's a type of game that I would go back to though.

I also finished Torchlight for 200/200. Again, pretty cool game if you are into dungeon crawling and loot collecting. Not very original, but it was still kinda fun getting better loot, and better spells and see the carnage you can cause. Having a pet to do your item selling is a cool idea, all RPGs should have this feature.

Re: Cheap HDD (2 years ago)
Catch of the Day seems to stock 250gb for less than $100 delivered, quite frequently. You can keep an eye on that while using an USB drive. Or if you can't wait, I guess ebay or your local gumtree.com.au
Just completed ilomilo for 200/200. Very distinctive graphics and super cute. The puzzles get pretty complicated (for me, I guess for others it may be easy) and really forces you to think in 3D. Because of the grid/isometric nature, using the analogue stick to control movement felt a bit loose, and I just wished that they enabled the d-pad for better control. A weird achievement where you have to play along to the theme music on the title screen. I couldn't get it at first, watched a few youtube vids, but still couldn't get it. Then the achievement popped, so not sure hope accurately you have to play along with the music.

Overall, fun little game.
Just completed Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions for 1000/1000. Pretty decent game, and I like the art style. First person perspective during the boss fights are pretty cool. There isn't that much web swinging like you may expect from a Spidey game, and it's more combat oriented. With the 4 different flavours of Spidey, plus all the combos you buy during the game makes it interesting.

Just completed The Saboteur 1000/1000 game takes about 28 hours. No online achievement. Plays like GTA mixed with Assassin's Creed. Major glitch at the end if you want to mop up the 1000 easily.
Thanks for the heads up. After reading your comment, I started and finished Saboteur for 1000/1000.

I've never played GTA, but from what I've seen, I too think it must play like GTA. Saboteur also reminded me of Just Cause 2, with the Freeplay targets and colonel/general assassinations. And yes, the Scenic Points are exact copy of the ones in AssCreed.

Even with the above mentioned glitch, the Freeplay targets were a major grind. With over 1300+ 'collectables', it was a chore. More so than the 75% completion achievement in Just Cause 2, I guess because it was just fun in JC2, whereas Sean just moves sooo sloooow in Saboteur. And I kept falling off places and dying.

Other than the collectables, I enjoyed The Saboteur. Neat story, lots of attractive ladies, voice acting was good.
