Re: Mechwarrior - series reboot (3 years ago)
The news is totally awesome and I'm looking forward to this more than ANY game now. I just hope one of the co-fathers of Battletech can keep the game on track seeing that the stuff that Piranha Games has released in the past hasn't been stellar.
I'm really glad this is heading back to the cockpit style of the MechWarrior games not the MechAssault 3rd person style. Sure MechAssault was fun, but it just didn't capture the feeling of Battletech as much as MechWarrior did back in the days.
A reboot back to the 3rd Succession Wars is awesome too. No overpowered Clan mechs/tech, and over the top weapons. Just the good old favourites. Okay sure the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat is a great mech, but I just can't put it at the same level of awesomeness that is the Marauder or Warhammer. Even the Phoenix Hawk, Wasp, Stinger. All old school favourites.
(actually the Awesome battlemech is my favourite - who couldn't say "no" to 3 PPCs and 80 tons of assault mech goodness....
)
I'm getting all nostalgic about MW2 (even old school MW1 and the Battletech RPG PC games - The Crescent Hawks Inception, and The Crescent Hawks Revenge).
I've read a ton of the novels back in the days, and I'm really excited about all the little elements that are in the books that weren't able to implemented in the games in the past (like over heating in the cockpit etc).
I really hope Piranha Games doesn't screw this up.
"Reactor online... Sensors online... Weapons online... All systems nominal"
I think this thread should be moved to General Gaming since it's going to be multi platform (PC and 360).

thought you guys would find this interesting.

These are the HORI sticks that are coming with the Tekken 6 Collector's Edition in the US. RRP $149.99 USD.
Personally they look pretty cool, and more substantial than the EX Fighting Sticks, although they still suffer from having the Start and Select/Back buttons in the top right corner stick where they could be pressed accidentally during a frantic battle.
Something else interesting is that they are Wireless. Wonder why they decided to go wireless or if it's misinformation on Gamestop's behalf. Not sure what kind of parts it would use, but I'd think it would be Sanwa JLF with Hori buttons.
It would be cool if those packs came to Australia.

Capcom store will be selling the entire range of Madcatz SFIV peripherals next week, and they now support International shipping.
If you're using firefox make sure you before you checkout, you need to navigate away from the checkout. This should trigger a popup window that will present you with a tiny survey asking why you didn't continue with the purchase. Upon completing the survey you'll get 10% off your order. Not sure if this is still working though.

Re: BlazBlue (4 years ago)
If Battle Fantasia is any indication, we won't be seeing it here in Australia, although that was probably because Battle Fantasia was being handled by Red Ant.
Don't know who would distribute it here.
Not too excited about this one. Never was a big fan of Guilty Gear, and BlazBlue looks like Guilty Gear with a new coat of paint.
If it's region locked (probably a good chance like Battle Fantasia), I'll probably get it from the UK when it's cheap, for collecting purposes (cuz I like to collect 2D fighting games, much to the disapproval of my wife

Re: KING OF FIGHTERS XII (4 years ago)
Galactic Circus in Crown also has KOFXII next to the 4 SFIV machines.
Looks cool, but a little slower than I remember KOF to be. Noticed that the game has screen zooming like Art Of Fighting/Samurai Shodown so that might piss some people off.
Looks to me like the sprites are 720P? Thought they were going to be 1080P.

as long as you're logged into Live you can access your DRM content with the gamertag used to buy the DRM content. To use the content offline and with any gamertag you need to use the online license transfer tool to transfer the ownership of the DRM to your new Xbox 360.

Re: Your newest purchase (4 years ago)
Just bought a 2.4GHz Macbook from Myer with AppleCare to replace my wife's dying Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. $2145 plus $419 for AppleCare.
funny, cuz she went from an iMac G4 -> Dell 9300 -> Macbook.... Apple to PC back to Apple. I think with the massive improvements to Mac she will probably never go back to PC ever again.

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
Yeah mostly the buttons get swapped out, but the whole mod job is quite a big job (check out the link I posted to the EX2 mod guide a few pages back).
the main problem with using an Octo gate is that the throw of the stick increases, and charge characters become harder to use. I have not tried to use an octo gate on a hori stick, but I have modded a friends EX2 to use then sanwa square gate (because it's a little bit better than the hori square gate). with the square gate I had to drill holes through the correct parts so that I could screw it onto the hori stick.
I think if you perserve with the HORI sticks you will learn to use them, you'll have no trouble with them (as long as you don't jump to a Sanwa stick and adjust to that).
Funnily enough, I've completely removed the mods from my sanwa sticks, because over time with SFIV I adjusted to them and actually found the mods to be restrictive to my game play. It also helps that SFIV is very lenient with the command inputs. also tried unmodded in HE Remix and they performed really well in that too, when only 2 months ago I wasn't comfortable using unmodded sticks in HD Remix, so really for me it was about learning how to use the stick properly. Maybe the mods helped, like training wheels.

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
yeah there are a few aussie stores that stock sanwa and seimitsu parts.
* Highway Entertainment
* In2 Amusements
not as much range as AkihabaraShop or Lizard Lick, but they got the basic stuff you'll need (JLF stick, OBSF/OBSN buttons etc).
Plus AkihabaraShop and Licard Lick are really far behind with orders right now, since everyone been ordering like crazy due to Street Fighter IV.
Sanwa Daishi (the manufacturer) is apparently out of stock of JLF sticks because so many people have been ordering from them. Econmic Crisis??? Street Fighter IV says otherwise.

the only stick available for purchase right now is the TANK stick for 360, which Gamesmen is stocking. I also saw that a GAME near me (Melbourne) had 2 on the shelf. check out the Gamesmen website for a picture. Looks really heavy duty, but a little ugly, and not my taste (prefer japanese style stick and buttons)
It's made from US HAPP parts, so if you're looking for a japanese stick (Sanwa) there aint nothing right now. JB Online might still be taking June release preorders for the Tournament Edition FightStick ($249), but I haven' checked the status of preorder availablility lately.

Thanks for the contributions and using the correct fomatting.
I've added Resident Evil 5 values valid till March and not April as it's probably a typo on EB's part (unless someone can confirm with an EB staff member it really is until April).

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
Just to add to Ciel's review.
PS2 HRAP1 doesn't have Sanwa buttons. It has HORI imitation buttons. Also the top plate is not metal but in fact a thick metallic sticker.
TEFS does have a metal top plate, but it is covered by an artwork layer + acrylic clear plastic layer.
The weight of the VSHG and the TEFS are the same.
EDIT: Actually I should be clear about the metal top plate thing. All HRAPS, MadCatz FightSticks (SE and TE), VSHG, and HORI Fighting Sticks (the small ones) have a metal plate where the stick and buttons are mounted, but they are also covered by an artwork layer either as a thick sticker (like on the HRAPS), an acrylic sheet with fused artwork (TEFS) or an adhesive sticker (SEFS, Hori FS). I'm not sure about the top of the VSHG, but Ciel says it's metal without anything on top. Maybe it's painted black. *shrug*

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
I would say design wise the TE is top class, but in constructions the HRAPs are better. Just yesterday when I was playing around inside my new TEFS, one of the nuts used to hold down the bolts in the top panel fell out of it's bracket, so I couldn't screw that bolt down anymore. It's like the plastic where the nut is secured in is not tight. Had to fix it with some blutac to keep it in there.
HRAPs are also packed better, since they are put in a plastic bag before being packed into the egg carton cardboard then put into the retail packaging.
The TEFS just has hard foam on each edge of the stick, which causes small scratches on the plastic top panel.... ugly.
Playing on the TEFS is better though as it sits lower and is more comfortable for me.
EDIT: One thing to add to this. The TEFS and SEFS are much easier to mod, being only 1 step process to gain access to the guts. HRAPs are a 2 step process to gain access to cuts, but I'd say that even though it's only 1 extra step, it's more like 3 to 4 times longer to get it open due to how stick is designed.
HRAP:
step 1) take off bottom panel, 8 small phillips head screws (easy)
step 2) unscrew 6 nuts holding the top metal panel to the plastic body (difficult and time consuming due to the space where the nuts are located and the size of the nuts. Also need to have the HRAP upside down to do this).
TEFS:
step 1) unscrew 6 allen key screws. DONE. (although you need a smaller allen key than the standard one used in self construction stuff, example something from IKEA. Should be in most tool kits).
The problem with the HRAP is you may strip the phillips head screws if you're not careful, while you can't strip allen key screws. Also the HRAP screws tighten on plastic wells meaning the wells can become stripped and the screws won't tighten anymore if they are unscrewed and screwed lots of times, while the TEFS tights screws into nuts locked into the plastic case.
EDIT 2: The button layout on the TEFS and SEFS is better than the HRAP layout. TEFS/SEFS layout can be adaptered to the angled or straight button layout, while the HRAP uses the old angled layout, but the last 2 buttons on the right angle downward in a useless way (most people use button plugs because of that).
Personally I prefer the angled button layout since it fits the natural way your fingers rest (since your fingers aren't naturally straight across).

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
had to trick the system on the section for selecting shipping destination. The way their system works is it initially selects your billing address country as the shipping address country, but then it updates the drop down box to only have USA, Canada and Mexico. If you hit the submit button fast enough it doesn't have time to update that box and your shipping country will go through.
I took a massive gamble with this ($500+ gamble, eeeee!!!!), so me and my friend were pretty scared it would go pear shaped and we'd end up with nothing. My work friend was soooo happy when I came to work with his TE. He was using a Hori Fighting Stick EX2 on 360 initially, and after moving to the TE he said his game has improved tremendously.
The dumb thing about the Capcom Store is they have estimates for world wide international shipping, but then block it at the shipping address stage.... It's really silly.
You guys who have April JB preorders for the TE aren't going to be disappointed. You'll be in love in arcade stick heaven.

Absolutely stoaked that my order for 2 TE FightSticks actually came through from Capcom Store. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I really didn't have much hope for it coming, but it finally arrived after being in transit for 3 weeks.
Ended up costing $262 each after shipping. I only kept one of them, since the 2nd one was for my friend at work, so now I have 2 TE FightSticks (1 is from my GameStop order with Ciel that came in early February).

I don't know how many times I need to make this reminder. Hindu, TheAnswer and most others are posting correctly, but others are not.... It is as if new forum members are not reading the OP fully and simply jumping in here to ask a price that is already in the OP or post in the incorrect format causing me to "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!".
It really does help me alot when I see contributions in the correct format. I don't want to resort to having to post the reminder at the beginning of every new page of this thread.

more confirmation is good news for Stick searchers.
man $80 AUD is REALLY cheap even for the SE FightSticks considering they are $80 USD. I think this info would be wrong and perhaps confused with the US RRP.

yeah I posted the rumour about EB stocking the SE FightSticks from what someone posted on OzHadou, but another PALGNer asked EB and they had no idea, but then again, I think the only people who would know are EB Head Office, and the stores won't know until the memo goes out to them.
Cross fingers for those SE Sticks

those looking for the Standard Edition FightStick, Amazon.de is taking orders for them again, and I think they will ship it internationally, but I don't know how much the shipping is. Also it's a little difficult using the site as it's all german.

Re: Your newest purchase (4 years ago)
2 PSP games I've been meaning to get for a long time. (courtesy of Ciel)
Gundam vs Gundam and Macross Ace Frontier.
Hope they make a Macross Ace Frontier 2, and port Gundam VS Gundam NEXT (out in arcades in March!) to PSP. Long live PSP!
