Re: Red Dead Redemption (3 years ago)
I've always had a soft spot for Westerns and I'm loving this game so far.
One of my favourite things has to be the awesome unscripted events that occur in these sandbox style games; especially Rockstar's games.
As an example I was on a bounty hunter mission and determined to bring my target in alive. I approached his last known location and, guns blazing, killed all of the bandits except for my target. I quickly ran up to him with my lasso and hog-tied him.
Picked up the struggling bandit and loaded him on to the horse, just as I noticed several of this mates approaching on horseback. Still on foot I turn around, switch to dead-eye and stylishly shoot them off their mounts.
Turning back to my bounty I get a sinking feeling when I see the horse I loaded him on to galloping away in a cloud of dust. I whistle for my horse to come back but the horse keeps going. I foolishly realise that I must have loaded the bandit on to somebody else's horse!
My horse arrives and I frantically jump on to the saddle and gallop off after my bounty who is rapidly disappearing into the distance.
I finally catch up to the fleeing horse with the hog-tied band still struggling on the back. After a couple of attempts I manage to lasso the other horse and get it to stop.
Jump off my mount, get the bandit and load him carefully on to MY horse this time.
Just as more of the bandit's friends arrive... one of which runs me down with his horse. I manage to recover but am taking serious damage from the 3 bandits. Panicking, without any dead-eye left and under heavy gunfire I somehow manage to take them all out.
I hop back on to my horse and limp back into town to collect my bounty, feeling that I really did deserve that reward for bringing him in alive.

Re: PAL (AU) PS1/PS2 RPG Help (4 years ago)
Here's a reasonably comprehensive list of PS1/PS2 RPGs that were released in Europe and probably in Australia as well (I know that I bought a lot of them here).
The list isn't 100% accurate (especially regarding RPG vs Strategy) but might be a handy starting point.
PS1 RPGs :-

PS2 RPGs part 1 :-

Is it Mercenary? I used to play it and the sequel on the C64 back in the day.
Re: Superstardust HD trophies help. (4 years ago)
Here's a guide that may help with getting the trophies :-
http://www.ps3trophies.org/game/super-stardust-hd/guide
Note that some trophies are only available if you buy the Solo or Team add-on packs.
I'm still struggling with the Late Boomer and Shock And Awe trophies...

Australian game prices (5 years ago)
Just came across an interesting article from The Age regarding the price of games here in Australia with a comparison between selected Australian retailers, Australian on-line stores, Hong Kong on-line stores and EBAY.
http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives//009738.html
The article doesn't contain any surprises to the majority of people here, especially those of us that like to shop around.
Well worth a read though...
Also thought it was nice for Dungeon Crawl, one of my local favourites, to get an honourable mention.

Trying to look inconspicuous, Cindy wished that those nasty Team Fortress boys would just go away and frag each other...
Re: The "Man-Teen" Era (5 years ago)
Interesting topic with a lot of great responses...
Gaming continues to unfairly get a lot of bad press but it is as 'legitimate' a hobby as any other.
It is possible to balance a gaming lifestyle with a family and a professional career. It all comes done to moderation and setting priorities.
I'm in my mid-30s so I'm a bit older then most people here. I've been an enthusiastic gamer for longer than I can remember and will continue to do so.
I have a well-paid job in the IT industry. I'm also happily married (over 10 years) and have a 4 year old son.
I regularly socialise with a small circle of close friends from my university days. They all play games to some extent and more than half of the group are married (some with kids).
My wife isn't a gamer (although she does play a wicked game of Tetris) but she understands my hobby. My son is definitely interested in gaming and loves playing Lego Star Wars in co-op mode.
Having said that, my gaming habits have definitely changed over the years :-
- I love RPGs and used to buy and play almost every one that was released. The problem I have now is the lack of time to devote 50 hours to a single game. I do still predominantly buy and play RPGs but my pile of unplayed/uncompleted games is growing and growing...
- I now spend more time playing DS or PSP games because I can play when I have a few spare minutes; on the train, during my lunch break, etc.
- Most of my console or PC gaming is done at night, after my son has gone to sleep.
- I have consciously stayed away from MMORPGs because I know that I don't have the time to devote to them.
- No more 10 hour gaming sessions but I do manage to play almost every day.
Gaming is a major part of my life... just not to the exclusion of everything else.

I have a soft spot for anything by Nippon Ichi but haven't had a chance to play this one since it didn't get a PAL release.

The egg came before the chicken. And a big chicken needed a big egg :-
Re: Guess The Game (5 years ago)
ObsoletE got it.
Yes, Keef the Thief was the first game under the 'Naughty Dog' moniker and was a fun little adventure/RPG.
Apart from it's sense of humour the thing which I most remember about the game is an undocumented spell that you could create with a bit of experimentation. If you cast the spell in a pub then all of the women would take off their tops! Magic, eh...

Re: Guess The Game (5 years ago)
yep, A13x got it.
It is indeed Fountain of Dreams, an RPG from 1990 that played similarly to the far superior Wasteland (at one stage it was billed as an 'unoffical sequel' to Wasteland).

Here's hoping that Dead Rising also gets a conversion. I've been tempted to buy a 360 just to do some zombie bashing...
Re: Guess The Game (5 years ago)
samiboi got it :- Alternate Reality: The Dungeon
Second (and unfortunately last) of a planned series of seven games. It had neat features you don't see in modern RPGs. For example, if you were a big spender at the tavern then the innkeeper would warmly greet you and give you the best table. If you always ordered the cheapest items on the menu then he would give snarky comments. Pity the series was prematurely cut short...
