Re: Trials Evolution (1 year ago)
Game looks insanely awesome. I have all the faith in the world Redlynx will even surpass expectation come release day. Definitely down for some PALGN multi goodness.

looks like I'm going to have to buy a 360 in time for this. Wish I had a working 360 so I could go back and finish off Trials HD...
And here i was thinking you just stopped gaming. Those SMB sessions were awesome man, so i’m expecting similar pushing this time around. This goes for Chimp and Slappy too! You guys worked magic with the editor and provided me with hours of free entertainment, so looking forward to what the creative juices produce this time around.

The local multiplayer seems to be a bit like Micro Machines ie. all 4 riders on one screen, eliminated/lose points if you fall too far behind and leave the screen?
I could be wrong (no, seriously), but i reckon it’ll just be a normal sprint. If you fall behind you simply won’t see the other riders. As much as i love Micro Machines (toilet bowl dragsters FTW!), i just don’t see it being as awesome when applied to Trials. I’d say they’re just showing off the 4 player multi right now.

That dude's a wanker. And completely overrated. But thanks icon_wink.gif
Ms. Splosion Man – 200/200.

Finished this up late last week (perfect timing with Deus Ex dropping tomorrow!) and, as expected, it’s unbelievable value at the asking price. 800 points? Seriously?! I don’t know, but there’s an insane amount of value here brimming with quality. I’d go as far as to say that the opening video is worth the 800pts alone, but that might be just me... So on to the achievements!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd1M4TzhlgA&feature=related

Once again, Twisted Pixel know how to do achievements. From the laughably easy but awesome Star Road to the tough-as-nails Hardcore mode, attaining everything here will satisfy. I’ll skip the easy ones and get straight to business. Now there were a couple of multiplayer ones which were tough because they required you play with someone who was also fairly decent at the game. Lag is once again a factor when it comes to games which require such precision, and one level was close to unplayable due to the split second timing required, but it’s all pretty manageable for those with patience. Eventually. Some of the shoes in the multi maps were pretty devious, along with some crazy checkpoints later on, but patience and deep breaths are key to retaining sanity.

There’s a particular achievement which requires you beat a level without one of the players sploding, which was probably the biggest multiplayer challenge. Lag is killer here and i would strongly advise trying it locally if possible.

The big daddy, once again, is beating Hardcore. I reckon MSM is tougher than the original, but the goal is the same – there are no checkpoints and anything that hits you will instantly send you back to the start of the level. Memorisation is once again key, but it’s all very doable for those persistent enough. Some of the later maps can really become annoying, so breaks are essential.

Having the 200 is awesome, but i kinda play these games for the boards. In saying that, i finished up 5th overall, which is actually more satisfying than the 200. Awesome game that deserves so much more.
Re: Blu-ray problems (1 year ago)
John, you’re a legend. That’s the sort of stuff i’m looking for. I’ll give it a shot and let you know how it goes. What’s the deal with backing up save files and stuff – can i use any USB flash drive? Can i back up games downloaded from PSN or is it just saves? Cheers mate.
Blu-ray problems (1 year ago)
So my PS3 won’t play blu-ray movies anymore. Everything else is cool – no issues playing games or dvd’s, but now every blu-ray seeks for a while and then makes a noise like it’s about to eject but doesn’t. Anyone have similar issues or have possible solutions? I’ve had it for more than a year so repair is not an option, what i’m after is a ā€œDuh, you need to do thisā€ response or an easy fix. I have a feeling i might be out of luck though...

Any help is much appreciated.
Wow. That’s insane! Very awesome posting Spacebreak.

I feel bad criticising any of it, but some of the ratings might be slightly off. It’s subjective of course, but a decent guide might be to go off of True Achievements or something like that.

And now i feel compelled to update my list, so here we go:
- Super Meat Boy
- Dead Space Ignition
- Castlevania: HD
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Doritos Crash Course
- Final Fight: Double Impact
- Dante’s Inferno
- Dead Space
- Shadow Complex
- Ninja Blade
- R-Type Dimensions
- Resident Evil 5 (-DLC)
- Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection
- Fable 2 Pub Games
- Streets of Rage 2

Reckon i’ve posted about some of those before, but no big. Again, awesome stuff man. Cheers.
Dead Space 2 – 1000/1000.

The only real achievement worth talking about is beating Hard Core. From what I understand, everything else can be achieved on any other difficulty. I was originally gonna go in-depth on how I went and give some tactics on how to do specific parts, but it all really comes down to memorising spawns and saving at the ā€œrightā€ spots. I saved in chapters 5, 8 and 11. Looking back, I’d say if you have the time (about 6-7 hours) try and make your first save at chapter 8, as everything before that is fairly straight forward. The processing plant is dodgy and cost me a couple of hours play. Anything which can insta-kill you needs attention, so go through it a few times on your initial playthrough.

Going from chapter 11 to the end can be a little tense at times, but it’s generally easier as you’re loaded and upgraded. If you know what you’re doing, it’s slightly easier than the first half of the game. The biggest problem for me was time. Playing for long enough to get to a suitable spot to save was a challenge.

But, all in all, a great achievement to get out the way and happy I’m done with it. Now time to go play with my new toy icon_cool.gif
Well done, man. Oh, and good read icon_cool.gif

How’d you go with times and where’d you finish on the boards? Got a favourite map? Really need to fire this up again but gotta wait until I get a bit more time. Again, congrats.
I only carry the Plasma Cutter and Force Gun and store (or sell) everything else. I spend all my money on Power Nodes. Started on Zealot and it’s been good up until somewhere in chapter 5...

SPOILERSThe part where you’re first introduced to the fatties – who are fine, but the enemy with 2 arms and a tail are a joke! Seriously, these guys can kill you in the blink of an eye. One is fine, but a group is very bad news. They can pretty much shrug off a fully powered Plasma blast and with 3-4 on screen at the same time, things become annoying fast.END SPOILERS.

I actually love stasis but agree the refill canisters are useless, as it manually refills after a certain period. I’ve upgraded the duration twice and it’s noticeable, which is good for packs or heated battles.

Never thought they could up the atmosphere of the first, but they’ve done an awesome job. The definition of survival horror. I only play this with the lights off and sound cranked and gotta say, most of the time it’s pretty tense. I’m in the same boat as those who can’t play it for very long – a couple of hours max per sitting, I’d say. Very draining experience. That or it’s the 40+ degree days.

The only gripes I have are those little claw kids disappearing before you get a chance to loot ā€˜em. No map, as I like a physical map, with colourised areas for where I have and haven’t been. And finally, some of the checkpoints need to be closer, especially when tedium is involved. Oh, and day-one DLC.

But with that said, the game is as close to perfect as you can get. So worth the wait.
Just picked up the collectors (which is a joke for the price, but I’m a sucker) and was wondering – are all Aussie CE copies supposed to come with the Ignition DLC?

ah, yeah....it's the code on the back of the rb2 manual you want, not the rb3 one. That's why the offer isn't available at this time icon_wink.gif Mine is a uk copy.
Pretty sure i got it to work inside the game but i didn't have any credits at the time so i didn't follow through.

Importing RB1 and RB2 songs requires you to have 400MSP for the RB1 export and 800MSP for the RB2 export.

For RB1, you need to fire up your RB1 disk, and go to Options->Export Songs. You don't need a code or anything for this, so if you've traded away your RB1 disk, just hire it or borrow it from a friend.

For the Rock Band 2 export, get the code from the back of your RB2 manual and go into Rock Band 3, go to the Redeem Code section of "Get More Songs". If the code doesn't fit, type as much of it as you can into the text box and it should export fine.

The RB3 code on the back is for future exporting usage. icon_smile.gif
That did the trick! Cheers guys. The code on the RB2 book is 25 characters, yet in RB3 there’s only room for 16. Entered the first 16 without spaces and it worked. Thanks again, much appreciated.

I'm not sure about your first query, but to answer your second question:

Cheers man, you’re a legend! Can’t believe I didn’t see that icon_rolleyes.gif

Well apparently that page is now up! Ok, so I tried redeeming the code again today and got ā€œThis offer is not yet available. Try redeeming this token later.ā€ Also tried it from the dash (like suggested in the article) but it’s only 16 digits and didn’t work. Sigh. Shot an email to support which i hope gets a reply...
Hey guys and gals, quick n00b question which I’m sure has been answered somewhere in this topic –how do I go about importing my songs from RB1 and 2? Apparently the RB1 songs are already there if I paid for the import to 2, but the code on the back of the manual for RB3 doesn’t seem to work, saying something like it’s invalid. Both RB1 and 2 are from the UK but 3 is a US version. I’m on the 360 by the way. I’ve checked here: http://rockband.com/support/export-rock-band but it seems to be down for now. Anyone know what I need to do to get this to happen? Preferably answers not suggesting I pick up a UK or AU copy. Thanks in advance.

Oh and also, how do I select a created character if I’ve made more than 1? It seems to default me to the newest one created and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to pick another! Again, any help is appreciated.
Still have a fair few games I’ve yet to even open, but I can’t see myself making room for anything else this year. In no particular order:

Limbo:
Limbo was a fresh and awesome experience. There’s all the whinging about length and price point, but that’s all bullshit as far as I’m concerned. This game is a masterpiece, and that’s all there is to it.

God of War 3:
Apart from being a little on the easy side, it’s hard to fault GoW3. I don’t really play GoW for the combat, but for Kratos and his story, the massive landscapes and stunning graphics, the puzzles and overall epicness of the package. It’s just a great experience from beginning to end. That and I got to do Aphrodite icon_cool.gif

Super Meat Boy:
SMB is as close to perfection as a platformer can get. Tight controls and perfect difficulty, it just had me hooked from the get-go. The incorporation of the friends list was a genius move taken from RedLynx, but nonetheless a genius move.

Alan Wake:
Gripping single player experience from start to finish. My only real complaint was that it looked like Remedy wanted to do open world but kinda stopped half way, leaving far too much area to explore with nothing there to find. That and the thermos...

Blur:
Without a doubt, the best arcade racer ever made – no question. It even tops Burnout 3! Bizarre Creations took car combat to another level and then some, but unfortunately were under the rule of Activision, and hence left to rot. Marketing was nonexistent and support was forbidden, leaving many not knowing just what the hell Blur actually is. Releasing it at the same time as Red Dead and Split Second (along with a few other big names) didn’t help either. Regardless, its closest rival would be so far behind it isn’t even worth a comparison. Easily my GotY.

A special shout-out goes to Castlevania: HD. Never thought it was possible to do Castlevania 2D with multi, but obviously it is. Far from perfect, but still loads of fun.

Overall, an insanely good year for gaming.
Re: Super Meat Boy!! (2 years ago)
Just wanted to spread the good news:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/11/super-meat-boy-teases-new-360-chapter-new-pc-character/

They’re deleting all the 0.0 times! Another awesome independent developer who understands what’s important. Oh, and all other known glitches (I’m guessing the percentages and bandage glitches) will be fixed. Sweet! They’re also throwing in some free DLC to sweeten the deal.

Something I really hope gets fixed is the inaccurate finish times on some levels. On a fair few levels I’ve gotten a certain time only to have it recorded as something worse, without being able to get any better. It’s also gone the other way – instances where I’ve gotten a time and been given a tenth of a second off. Neither is cool and I really hope it’s part of the patch.
Super Meat Boy – 200/200.

Been a while since I last posted here, but happy to add this beauty to my list. Such an awesome game in almost every regard, I find it hard to be annoyed at its faults. My main gripe is the glitches – particularly the 0.0 times posted on the leaderboards (which an incoming patch will fix, thankfully). I love shooting for spots on the boards – especially when the friends list is very active (big shout out to Sin, Slappy and Mrcool), so finding out that glitchers were active so early was disheartening. However! This is also one of those games which, at times, can be pretty damn tough to pass, resulting in some sweet satisfaction from simply getting through some of the tougher challenges on offer. Stuff like getting the 100 bandages and beating some of the tougher dark stages and warps definitely felt good.

The toughest achievement is obviously completing the game 100%. Sadly another glitch messes up some of the percentages, allowing you to get this a little early. I still had the final 3 stages to go when I unlocked this so, technically, you could get it without doing the 3 toughest stages. If I had to narrow it down further, I’d say the warps from chapter 5 are the most difficult thing. Yes, The Kid warp is there, but I’m talking about the other 2 – the ones which you only have 3 lives in and need to collect bandages from. I honestly don’t think The Kid warp is that bad after playing the other 2... Oh, and some of Cotton Alley (the final chapter) was also challenging.

But all in all another fantastic XBLA game. Absolutely crazy value at 800 points, so if you still haven’t picked this up, then you’ve got until the 21st before it goes up to 1200. At which point you’ll only be getting awesome value. Buy it and add me!
Can’t wait. The only thing I don’t like is Rad’s new look. He’s just not ā€˜stache material.
Re: Super Meat Boy!! (2 years ago)
Damn. Haven’t had a chance to play and now Sin's passed me. Slappy too, I'm guessing. I have Friday off so I’ll be doing my best to catch up then!

Karai Pantsu wrote
[b]Edit2: Third level is pretty easy guys, for reals. icon_kero.gif
Man I honestly can't tell if that's sarcasm or not, but did you finally beat it? If so congrats.

Anyway, The Kid warp was classic. Definitely some frustrating platforming involved, but I can honestly say I enjoyed it. Respect to Team Meat for a great achievement. Reckon I found the second level the toughest, as I found it hard to link for some reason. The third was brutal until I figured out a method, at which point it became the easiest. Overall though, my favourite part of the game so far.

And I still can’t believe I haven’t popped in Castlevania yet! Well played Team Meat, well played.
Easily my downloadable game of the year and up there with the best of ā€˜em, downloadable or not. I just got my LE Castlevania in the mail (biggest fan of the series – ever!) and the first thing I did was play more Meat Boy.

Competing with the friends list is definitely addictive, but taking out some of the tougher challenges is just as fun. Got my hands full with Slappy and Sin but I still want more! It feels like Trials all over again but encased in some sort of N+ greatness, where mechanics are spot on and everything is just done to perfection. Gonna add a few of you guys because I’ve only got 7-8 atm.

Oh, and just needed to add that the cut-scenes are so awesome. The intro’s are awesome and the level endings are equally as, if not more awesome. Basically a lot of awesome. The "How to Play" section is worth the 800 points alone.
Re: Castlevania LoS (2 years ago)
Hey team, anyone know where to grab the limited edition from? That and if the US version is region free? Need this game now and Play Asia aren’t helping very much. Any and all replies are appreciated.
http://www.trueachievements.com/n1886/ninja-gaiden-3-announced.htm

And... that’s about it. But hey, at least they finally confirmed what we already knew, right? Right! Main man Itagaki is no more, and I’m really not fond of the other guys take with both Sigma remakes but, even still, can’t say I’m not psyched for more info.

Now, back to the waiting game.
Hmm. Feels like a pretty big omission, if you ask me. Both games look awesome, but without online multi, I’m just not sure I’m willing to bite until they hit DotW. Then again, I impulse purchase, so who knows.
1mpr3gn4t0r, what’s your GT? We need 6 for that one achievement, so it’d be nice to gather enough players from here, if possible. Plus playing for fun or grinding drops or chests is also more enjoyable if you’re playing with people you know. So yeah, shoot me a message if you want.
I’ll hit you up then AIC. The more Aussies the better.
Rippin it up, Slappy! Reckon you’ve completed just about every arcade game released man.

Massive congrats on Trials too, mega achievement. Always knew you'd smash it. So now that you’re done with all that, how about joining me for some seriously awesome Castlevania HD? It fits in nicely with your disc tray issues and arcade only run. Plus, you know, it’s Castlevania. In 2D. So yeah, I’ll see you in a bit then? icon_wink.gif
LIMBO 200/200.

Awesome little game. Picked it up the second it was released and was done with it 2 days later. Not gonna go into the whole debate of why you should or shouldn’t buy it, but I’m more than satisfied with how far my $20 went.

The achievements are great in the sense that if you discover them for yourself, they’re very satisfying. Many of the eggs aren’t too hard to find with a little investigating, but some are quite cleverly hidden. If you don’t use a guide (and you shouldn’t, because it would kill the game) you won’t get all the eggs on your first playthrough. The game challenges you to experiment and rack your brain at almost every corner, and the further along you are the more you’ll learn, so going back to previous areas will always have you trying and finding new things. After my first run I only found 4 eggs. My second run was basically and egg hunt, cleaning up loose ends. After finding all eggs, I had a few attempts at the final achievement – beat the game with less than 5 deaths, which never really went too well.

I saw that I had 102% without completing the final achievement and later found out that there were secret eggs hidden all over the place. I quickly forgot about the achievement and went hunting again. Now for a day or so I was doing nothing but looking in every corner for eggs. It consumed me! For a very short period there the leaderboards became very competitive. No one knew how many secret eggs there were and after every few hours someone went up another percent. It was all very addictive.

At some point, after around 6-7 hours straight of looking for possible locations, I turned the game off. Dreams filled with eggs, I knew I played for too long. The next day I went for my final achievement and nailed it first go. I died 3 times, twice on the very last jump, but it felt awesome. Don’t go for it fatigued and make sure you’re on the ball 100% of the time, and it shouldn’t be too bad. You need to know what’s coming up before it does, and even more importantly the timing of the jumps with some of the tougher puzzles. There are areas where you can drop lives very quickly if you lose concentration, and I guarantee you’ll need at least one for the final puzzle.

So once again, absolutely loved the game and couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Don’t think I’ll ever play it again, but no doubt an awesome experience.
http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4225

Been a rumour for a while now, but the boys over at Redlynx have finally confirmed that the greatest game available for download will be getting its second shot of DLC, along with 3 new Achievements totalling 50 Gamerscore.

So what do you get for the unspecified amount of monies? Well, 50 new tracks - 10 of which are customs from the community (best of the best, as chosen by Redlynx), along with 40 new creations from the team themselves. There are also 8 new tournaments, along with another 50 objects for the editor for mappers to play around with, just like with the previous pack. But how about that? They’re giving 10 people from the community not only cash prizes, but a chance to have their hard work immortalised. Very cool, Redlynx.

Currently only a Q4 release has been announced. Looks like I’m off to brush up on my skills again.
Picking this up tomorrow, no question. Been staying away from reviews and impressions, but I have heard it’s on the short side. Whatever though, still looks awesome.
Re: Blur Review (2 years ago)
Yeah, I’ll agree with most of that. It needed a 9 at the bottom, but we’re still cool, Cian. I honestly feel that Bizarre have brought the genre to a whole new level, as aside from a few issues (connection problems, occasional cheaters, some inconsistencies with the shield and, yeah, the soundtrack) the mechanics themselves are close to perfect. There’s really been a lot of fine tuning done here, because those who win online the majority of the time really are the ones who know the game best. And that’s what it’s all about for me.

It’s a shame the game didn’t generate more attention, because it really is some of the most fun to be had online. Dicks certainly make up a decent portion of the online fanbase (I think that’s more so due to the sheer amount of losers occupying online gaming than this particular game producing them), but you’ll get your good lobbies from time to time. But that’s just it – even if you’re surrounded by wankers, it makes it all the more fun to cause as much trouble as possible. Nothing better than hearing endless amounts of trash talk followed by whinging, excuses and virtual death threats from gaming warriors. It really does make my day.

But while I’m here, if you still play then add me for some multi. Good Aussie matches are hard to come by.
I’m not sure I actually remember the first one I ever played (probably one of the 1940’s), but the first to hook me was Truxton. Played it in the arcade way back when then picked it up on Mega Drive, and just absolutely thrashed the shit out of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUnVnb-WRXk

R-Type on the Master System was a game I played religiously. Back then I never managed to down the final boss (I was like, 8, or something), and I kinda feel some closure doing so when it hit 360. I have every R-Type game and love them all. I also enjoy Gradius, but played them nowhere near as much as R-Type.

Still on the Master System/Mega Drive, Xenon 2 Megablast was pretty cool for its time. Remember playing that a lot, actually. Thunder Force 3 was also killer and Fantasy Zone had its charm icon_razz.gif

I was also big on Raiden and bought and sold my PS1 copy 3 times! Can’t wait for the 360 PAL port. RayCrisis is another I remember playing for a while, but I still have my copy of that.

Anyway, I’ve always been into them and love ā€˜em to this day, but I’m also a little funny about the way I play them. I can’t play more than 1 at a time and I can't just pick up and play them for short periods, which is probably why I haven’t played Mushi in a while! In saying that I prefer something with a simple premise, but that’s very deep and rewarding the more you put in. I loved Ikaruga back on the Dreamcast (and Cube – yes, I now own 3 copies) but never really took the time to play it to its fullest until I sat with it on the 360. Honestly, it’s thanks to the achievements that I can appreciate the game for what it is – something with a basic concept which has endless depth to it. It really is one of the best shooters around. One day I’ll get around to going for the boards.

Dodonpachi Daioujou on PS2 was another one I played the hell out of. Love it for its straight up simplicity and massive power-ups and solid design. Still one of my favs to this day. Castle Shikigami 2 was another I put some time into.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL5CS8AssE8

Both Giga Wing 1 and 2 are extreme levels of awesome, and I remember laughing my ass off doubling up with mates trying to 1 credit the game on difficulty 8. The reflect mechanism was something that really appealed at the time and added a whole new level of gameplay. Love both to death.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62domfpuAyM&feature=related

Border Down is another cool one. At the time I remember being impressed at how smooth it ran and how sweet it looked. Reckon I also (ever so slightly) preferred the side-scroller back then, but now I hug both with equal amounts of love.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBwwnLp9lvo

Nanostray 2 is one I’ve played a little of on my DS and it’s actually quite good. Not a massive fan of the portable shooter, but it’s definitely worth a look.

The last shooter I played was Mushi. Now, I absolutely love Mushi, but it’s one of these games which takes a huge effort for me to play. I really haven’t gotten around to playing it much actually (about 8-10 hours in so far and had it since launch!), but will no doubt do so soon. If there was ever a game I wanted 1000pts on it would be this.

There’s more, but it would probably be one-liners and not worth mentioning. That and I’ve probably forgot about a few! But yes, much needed topic.

But yea, go for Soldner X, part 2 is coming on Ps3 soon.
Both Soldner-X and its sequel are available on PSN right now, and both look very cool. I haven’t played either yet (a time thing), but will be picking them up the second I fire up my PS3, no questions. They are traditional in the sense that they are side-scrollers. Not sure I can see too many resemblances to R-Type, Gradius, Border Down etc... maybe Thunder Force 3... a little. Either way, pretty much your best options on the PS3 for the time being.
