Games to Play with the wife... (1 year ago)
I have a PS3.. I have a wife.. I don't play my PS3 much these days because I only have single-player games and horror/scary games that she doesn't like to see when I am playing etc..
I asked her over the weekend, while watching my newphews playing Skylanders, whether she'd be interested in playing some games with me when we're at home... she said yes.. but not every day.. she's not a big gamer but she does like the more simple games she has on her iPhone. You know.. like Fruit Ninja, Traffic Stop, Plants vs Zombies.. that kinda thing..
So I am looking for recommendations for games, on PS3, that I might be able to play with her. There's just too many games to sort through from scratch.. so maybe other people have done this before and can shed some light..

Some photos of me and my newly wed wife in China. We went to one of those dress-up, costume photo studios and did these for some fun memories.
Re: What game are you playing? (1 year ago)
Still playing tribes.. lol.. every day I get in an hour or two.. sometimes more
The other night I started playing as the Sniper class. My ping is really low on the Aussie servers.. as low as 5ms, never higher than 20ms but averages around 7 to 15ms most of the time. So I can totally hit stuff with the sniper rifle. The longest kill I've made with the sniper rifle so far is 37km.. haha.. they were carrying the flag and almost at the other end of the map near where they would cap the flag. Bang! They are dead,.
Also, I love doing what the game calls "Blue Plate Specials". That's where you kill someone, mid-air, with your Spinfuser weapon. I did a half-map blue plate special of the flag carrier last week.. very satisfying gameplay..

I did start a new sword-wielding character (Argonian) but ended up just wandering around and not caring about the story.. it will be a character I'll play around with... but then I installed the Balanced Magic mod and got back into my mage character.. much more fun now. I guess I am just not used to using all the different spells.. switching back and forth between the various wards and other stuff is just too clumsy for my liking. You can assign hotkeys but it always puts it in your left hand first.. and yer.. just clumsy..

Steam Digital Download:
L.A. Noire and Brady Guide Combo $24.95
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/12214/
Something I wanted to get for a while but it was only on the consoles when it first came out.. now it is not only on PC but also 75% off!
I tried my best to avoid buying anything during the Steam sale but I couldn't resist this one.

Having played for only 28 hours or so.. I am considering restarting with a warrior-spec. I know the game was meant to be flexible but after a certain point you can't simply re-spec your character or start taking a new path.. I mean.. you could.. but I think I will enjoy it just as much by starting again with a character more suited to hand-to-hand combat rather than the pure mage I have been playing so far.
I just feel the mage class in this game is a little under powered in close quarters.. when you have room to move around it is great.. sometimes easy but most of the time a real challenge and satisfying.. it's just so frustrating to find yourself in a dungeon situation where there is no where to run or get a good distance from attackers and die over and over again before giving up and having to come back later.. really ruins the continuity for me..

If there's a petition I'd sign, it'd be the one that'd allow minor modding to Skyrim on consoles in general so that people can fix/alter numerous things, much like how UT3 was on the PS3. But yeah I wouldn't be signing something to do about people being afraid of spiders and in a video game of all things.

Tribes Ascend. Everyday for at least 1 hour, if not more. I've maxed out the skill (unlocked all the perks) for the Soldier class now and unlocked a bunch for the other classes too. I think also with every XP level your class gets, you get more bonuses as well.. so I don't think you can ever truly max it out.
Last night our team was down 4 vs 1.. looked like we were gonna lose and everyone was already saying "Good Game".. The enemy team had the flag and were fast approaching their own flag to cap it.. but then I swooped in out of nowhere and killed the flag holder! Wooo!
That was all the opportunity we needed to bring the game back and eventually we won the match!
Sure.. it was the whole team that got the victory, not just me.. but it felt good to be the one that stopped them from winning at that point.
Some of the maps sstill need some balancing in my opinion.. as well as made more ski-worthy.. but there's a couple of maps I really enjoy. It's a skill-based game also, so some days I can kill 3 or 5 people within a minute.. bam, bam bam! However on other days when my brain just can't keep up because I am tired or whatever, I will struggle to make a single kill in an entire 25 minute match.
Great game.

I have the save right from the very beginning, one main save that I save every time I am about to exit the game. 1 quicksave that I overwrite before fights or whenever I feel like I need to.. there seems to be about 3 or 4 autosave files in there that I haven't created... I'm someone who is ok with the decisions I make during the game. If I stuff it up so I can't complete something for a Steam achievement, I can live with that as long as I enjoy the game. In fact I have felt ok about more decisions than I normally would in most games.. even killing named NPCs and getting on the bad side of people..
Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
At work now.. and knowing I need to attend my strata annual meeting tonight means I won't be able to play the game anytime soon.. just starting to get to all the good stuff now it seems. The first part of the game had a lot of good stuff.. don't get me wrong but it was the usual start of fantasy game fare..
Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
So now I am level 20.. still on the Mage/Thief class play style.. now that I've gotten my pickpocket skill up, ever NPC is basically a bank
I was a little worried to pump perk points into this skill but with so much good stuff to loot from NPCs, it's as viable as any method of making money in the game to raise other skills by training. I joined the thieves guild and have found the thieves guild missions to be very satisfying.
I love how the game allows me to play the way I want to play.. it's the first time I have felt like I am accomplishing things as a Mage/Thief since the Baldur's Gate series. I'm one of only 9.1% of players to get the "Thief" achievement on Steam.. 50 locks picked, 50 pockets picked.
I'm having fun just going around and looting all the NPCs and just skulking around in general.. the main quest is on hold for now.

I'm still only level 14.. about 18 hours into the game.. killed the first 2 dragons and then one after that. Struggling with finding people to sell my stuff to in order to raise my wealth over 5,000gp to buy the house so then I can just store my stuff. Whenever I find someone who is going to let me sell them gems, they don't have enough money to buy them all from me.. what kinda gem trader only has 100gp to their name??.
I did manage to get my house in Whiterun now, and fully decked it out with all the decorations.. so I can unload all my stuff there now.. killed another dragon.. this one was kinda tough (at first) because it wouldn't land and let me hit it with my novice magic.. then I switched to apprentice firebolts and it was toast.. literally.
Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
Ahh ok, thanks. Yer.. I'm not up to Solitude/Riften yet.. so that may be the problem but I will try the potions trick.
I'll also look into alteration for defense and stuff..

Also, I've been playing as a mage/thief and I find it difficult to raise armor skills because as a mage, you don't want to get hit and you kill everything before it reaches you.. so if no one hits me, I don't get armor skill increases. While there is a bunch of skill trees for the different types of magic, I really don't see a lot of point in using anything other than Destruction and the occasional Conjuration for the Soul Trap spell... so a lot of the time I have a spare skill point or two sitting there for a long time.
One thing that was really satisfying, during my last play session, was killing a giant. At my level, they are very hard to kill and it took a lot of tactic to do it. Basically I had to run away from the giant and then use my Whirlwind (fast run) shout to get away from him, then turn around and let loose with my magic.. rinse and repeat.. sound straight forward but it really felt like there was something to lose (my life) and that it was a real struggle as well as having to use everything I had to do it. All the while Lydia is firing ineffectual arrows at the giant.
Oh and the other thing.. so many potions.. I've cooked up hundreds of potions.. too many potions... bit too easy to make potions I think..

So I pre-ordered this game and paid for the boosters to get into closed beta, and considering it only asked for $29.99, it was a steal so why the hell not.
It looks like it will be a semi-f2p model with "gold" that you can buy if you can't be bothered to wait till you earn enough "tokens" from gameplay to unlock the different characters. You get 3,000 gold with the pre-order and also 30 days worth of double xp/tokens as well as some kind of Pre-Order VIP status forever.
They've already started to ban people... yes, in a closed beta... for the usual crap.. AimBots etc.. the anti-cheat systems in place are also being tested.
I'm not sure if I get "3" keys to give? I only see one key when I click on the link for keys I can give away.. can you confirm that Frozen?
Anyway, since getting the pre-order I have been investing most of my time into the Engineer character class/role as it was the class I liked the most when I used to play the original Tribes.. the only thing I don't like about the class is that your turrets need to run from the same energy that your base runs off.. so if the base generator goes offline, so do you independant turrets... but then again.. it's not so bad either.

In regards to my comment, honestly people, get over it, it ain't a racist comment. It's a well documented fact that youth crime within the aboriginal community is high.

Yeah, that side of the tracks in Fairfield really isn't the best of places to be walking alone at night.
The people were not from this area, they didn't know where to go after they got off the train.. so we are thinking that regardless of where she got off, they would have followed her anyway. Even if she had driven home and parked in the council car park, it would have been no different in the distance to walk.
It was, for want of a better term, just bad luck.. wrong place, wrong time etc..
Re: What really ticks you off? (1 year ago)
Carramar station in NSW.. the train was from Campsie 10:28pm arrive Carramar at 11:00pm..
Re: What really ticks you off? (1 year ago)
It was 11pm when the train arrived, we live opposite the train station.. so only 150m walk.. by the time I rang 000 it was only 11:04pm.. so it all happened VERY fast.
Re: What really ticks you off? (1 year ago)
Yes, 3 CCTV cameras at the scene, it only happened last night so we are still waiting to see what happens. The people who attacked were both of dark complexion (possibly aboriginal or islander) and about 15 or 16 years old, very thin (especially in the faces). One was male the other female.. leads me to believe they are junkies but from the way they acted they are not from this area..
And she is beaten up, bruised etc and obviously still a little traumatised but otherwise ok..

My finacee was beaten up last night at the train station on her way home from work. They didn't demand anything from her, just hit her multiple times and after that tried to take her handbag and iPhone but didn't try very hard before running off.
Police were called, statement taken, evidence collected etc... but yer.. suffice to say I am pissed off.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
I thought the mammoths and giants basically ignored you.. but then I walked past a giant last night and I got smacked down... deep down.
Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
So I've started the game.. only 2 or 3 hours in to the game now, just haven't got time to play at the moment. I went with a female High-Elf character... I was going to pick an Argonian or the cat-person one but after reading the descriptions and talents, opted for high-elf instead.
I tried the sword/shield combo and while it is ok I have settled on dual-wielding magic at this stage. I find the switching between 'favourites" to be a bit clunky.. and I will definitely need to turn off the Mouse Accel/Smoothing thing.. but other than that I like it so far. Plays fine on my 5750 on "high" settings.
I've been to Riverwood and now on to Whiterun.. found a few random mobs around the landscape and a little bandit hideout etc. In my recent play of Oblivion, even with all the latest and greatest mods applied, I found that the game felt very dated with a lot of "nothing" in the landscape.. In the first 2 or 3 hours of Oblivion, just free-roaming, I came across a single bandit and a single wolf plus some mud crabs.. that's it! Whereas in the equally short time in Skyrim, I have come across about 4 or 5 times as much "stuff" to interact with.. it only gets better from here.

Well.. I just got the game today, from Ozgameshop.. so it will be interesting to see how broken or unbroken the game is 3 weeks from release with a fresh install.. I'm hoping less broken..
Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
STILL waiting on my copy from OzGameshop.. *sigh*
It's extremely frustrating to see everyone having so much fun with the game and not having it yet. I knew I wouldn't have it one release day.. I was fine with that.. I knew it wouldn't be the first week. I was fine with that.. but now the second week is over and I still don't have it.. I am not fine with that. *sigh*
