If Atari said that then I definetly agree with you but JB had the Limited Edition on their system so it is definetly suspect. I am unsure as towhether the staff at JB changed my order without clearly alerting me so I will have to check it out and maybe bend some arms for a limited ed. copy. icon_sad.gif

This is an extremely frustrating situation, Konami have announced nothing in regard to us Australians. Heres a few quotes which boggle the mind:

Gun metal console is not coming to PAL, Europe is getting a MSG bundle which includes normal sixaxis, a copy of MGS4 and a normal 40gb console with a fancy box. It is NOT coming to AUS/NZ.

The special limited edition version of MGS4 was NOT meant to come to AUS/NZ but some retailers took pre orders for it because of a miscommunication by Atari. They decided to horner the MGS4 special edition preorders but wont be offering anymore. If you have a MGS4 LE preorder you will get it, if you don't have one by now then you missed out.

Metal Gear Solid is an exclusive and we've announced a bundle, so we'll be working with Atari [locally] on that to ensure it gets a good kick. And then really, it's just about picking those key launches –first party- and working with our third party partners where it makes sense.

Received a memo from my head office about the limited edition of Metal Gear Solid 4. All game staff members at JB Hi-Fi have been told to stop taking pre-orders of this particular version of the game due to an internal problem at Atari.
That explains a lot. I was in JB Hifi yesterday and I preordered the Limited Edition, after the transaction some of the staff were making a bit of a fuss about it and wanted to change it. They were quibbiling over themselves, unsure of what to do so I just walked away with my recieipt with limited edition written on it next to the SKU.

So, do you guys think that they would some how deny me the limited edition? Are there any stores which will offer the LE and have a better idea of stock? Or should I just leave it?

It all really depends on how many copies Atari have and I guess how many people pre-ordered before me at the store.><
Awesome news, I knew that Konami would deliver on it's promise of a worldwide release. About a month and a half earlier than I expected too which is great.

Looks like I'll have to pre-order that bundle sometime soon as well.
No, wait and be patient like everyone else.
On the question of Suikoden I and II for the PSP. Last thing I heard was that it didn't meet Sony's conditions about updating PSone ports/2D games and hence won't be released.

I have to second Final Fantasy Tactics as well.
Re: King of Fighters XII (5 years ago)
^when is shortly and do you have any idea when the 'Saga' games are being released for PAL (ie Orichi Saga etc.)?

I saw the video before and I am so pleased about this. I knew that it'd be up to SNK to show how real HD sprite work is done. The effects look so gorgeous even though the video quality is poor. So apt about this game.
I've never played one of these games before so I will probably pick up this up when I get a PSP. I have so much fun with SRPGs. ^_^
Well yes if Capcom did a sprite themed SF4 then the game would obviously run on a new engine and have new gameplay mechanics just like all of the other games before it.

I don't think that you realize that for 2D sprites, increasing the resolution IS a graphical update. Infact it is the most significant graphical update for these types of games. This allows much more detail and artistic direction to be put into the characters and backgrounds.

I'm confused why you are telling me to wait until I see the game in motion. I already have. Video is already out and I would hardly say that its "perfect cartoony", it kinda looks ridiculous and out of place.

Edit: Ugh's post really illustrates this fact, just looking at those images, without having any other knowledge of the title, you would believe it was 2D and he was showing off the advances 2d art has gone. It isn't though, it's entirely 3d and that's awesome.
Sin Ogaris, compare this screenshot of Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix to Ugh's Street Fighter 4 screenshot. Does the screenshot look 3D?

The advancements in 2D art haven't gone, that is just ridiculous with games like Castle Crashers and Odin Sphere pushing new heights. HD sprites haven't even taken off yet.
You know I love Capcom and the games they make and I like how this game does capture the look of the Street Fighter games but I think that Capcom is making some bad decisions with this one.

I was really hoping for a 2d style with heaps of animation but like the director said it's all been done before, 3rd strike had such smooth animations they said there was no way they could improve on it.
Hmmm...nah. I agree that the animation would have been hard to top but they can improve in several different ways. Namely the higher resolution, look at games like Guilty Gear. Its a totally different playing field compared to the low resolution SF titles. Higher resolution = more detailed sprites and this makes a huge difference.

Imagine Third Strike running in 1080p. That would have been something which could not be improved on.

The answer to your last question is actually "yes, it is". Because what they have done is recreated a "ludicrously high resolution 2D Street Fighter 4" in 3D, so visually it gives the impression of said uber quality 2d but still offers the range of camera angles only afforded a 3D fighter, "2.5D" or not, it's freaking amazing that they have successfully created the "perfect" cartoony, hand drawn style in 3D. Name a single other game that has done that.
Actually no it doesn't because it is 3D. High resolution 2D sprite graphics simply look incredible and are much more attractive than anything that could be done in 3D.

And yeah there has been plenty of other cartoony style games as well.
Flypaper wrote
Sprite-based versus model-based collision detection are very different animals, 2.5D or not.

...Honestly, it does seem like they've opted for the worst of both worlds. They're weathering the graphics deficiencies of 3D fighters without any of the 'realistic' model-to-model interaction that makes the more advanced 3D fighters worth playing (e.g. the difference between open and closed stances in Virtua Fighter). All 3D does in what we've seen of the game so far is make the grappling system look more natural... And allow for dramatic camera rotation.

In spite of some of the complaints we've heard, there's some reasonably attractive visuals in those there screenshots. But is it prettier than a ludicrously high-resolution 2D Street Fighter 4 would have been? No way.
Yeah I totally agree a true sprite based HD SF4 would have really turned heads but this nah not really. The new shots look sharp and colourful which is great. I like the bars and interface, very slick but then again so it should be.
Yay, great news. These guys do a good job and its always refreshing to watch a decent Australian TV show about games.

I have to disagree with Dare/Halo Nerd about Kapowski. He was awful. It made watching the series painful. Put kindly he wasn't very good at cohosting the show.
Man talk about taking it up the ass, seriously.

Looking forward to EAs response, if any.
I never knew why a PAL release was even brought up. It was never going to happen. Unfortunately it adds to the other Retro gaming compilations that have never made it to Australia like:Street Fighter and Mega Man Anniversary.
Re: Guide to Collecting (5 years ago)
Some good points but I don't agree with most UK games being cheaper than games down here. Thats from my experience anyways. They are ocassionally good if you are after specific items.

Its much better to try eBay America they have much more on offer and the prices are always substantually cheaper. Although there is freight as well. Also some great Japanese import games go pretty cheap on there as well. Brand new, shrink wrapped etc.
RXWAG wrote
so is it going to be the twin snakes version of MGS1 or the PSONE version?
The PSone version. Don't worry though your not mising out on much. icon_lol.gif

Also, people shouldn't be afraid about this compilation not being feature rich. For the American price that its set at and what you get this is a fantastic deal.
All of the extras from all of the games will be included. So basically MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistance. The Subsistance disc will have all of the extras minus online play. No VR Missions from the sounds of things. All announced on IGN recently.

Basically we are unsure on:

-if MGS2 contains the 'making of DVD'
-if MGS3 contains the Existance disc
-what is on the extra DVD (the fan translated movie etc.)

Still an excellent package. Although I have all of the uber special version so no big deal for me. ^_^
Its great news but I don't think that the Drawn to Life would work as well on the Wii. The whole drawing element is destroyed because you don't physically touch anything with the Wii mote in contrast to the stylus. You're not so much as drawing as pointing. Still it sounds interesting.
Great news, I hope that it doesn't mean that the game hasn't been completely toned down though.
^yeah I'm aware of that, I think that I've seen the Dreamcast version for as low as $30. So I'm feeling pretty shitted about it.
^ I don't really think so the other games in the series are quite niche although with Nintendo's backing it will probaby sell a lot more copies. Its great to see Nintendo supporting 3rd parties, definetly a foot in the right direction. All they need to do now is start buying out a few developers with their huge wallet and secure more stronger 3rd party support.
The price of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (PS2) is about $120 right now and I don't want to have to fork out that much so a new MvC game would break the deal. ^_^
Awesome, Nintendo need to bring out their second wave of games so its good to see some form showing. I still think that they need some new IPs and to buy out some smaller 3rd parties to solidify the Wii's software line up.
Hmmm...it would be more convient if you bought a PVR(personal video recorder) as it records to a hard drive instead of a disc. But that wouldn't be even more expensive. If you were going to buy a recorder (DVD or not) it would still cost you plenty of money(probably 3x the price for a capture card, at least). So you are better off with the capture card.

Try Dick Smiths or cruise around for an online store over at eBay. That'd be your best bet. Dick Smiths/Harvey Norman/any other electrical retailer would be the best place to go as if the doesn't work (ie your computer can't do it or something) then you can take it back. Just check the return policy before you buy.

As for the correct one to buy, you'll want one that is compatible with DScaler, there should be a list on their site. DScaler is meant to be the best software to use.

Much love for the Illusion games. Who's being the tight arse? Disney?
I suspect so, these games were popular on the Megadrive (and probably the Master Sytem as well, not too sure though). Basically if the Disney games get ported over to the VC I'll have all of my favourite Sega MD games already.

It makes no sense why Disney aren't supporting the service though. I guess they'll hope on board eventually.
Awesome a MGS4 thread. I am so excited about this game. Seriously I haven't been so excited about a game since Super Mario World. I have so many ideas floating around, I'm trying to group them all into an article that I can write for my blog.

Anyways, in response to donovan515's point about Raiden.

Spoilers below(not sure if I have to do this)

Have any of you guys seen this picture, it is an early art piece that was put out several years ago. In the line of characters there is Big Boss. As far as I know Konami has been all mum on his presence in this piece. But it looks as he has cyborg qualities to him just like Raiden. Obviously if he were alive he'd need a lot of fixing up as he was incinerated.

All of this cyborg enhancing stuff keeps linking back to the Patriots for me. I mean if Big Boss is alive then it would have to be due to the Patriots. Because at the end of MGS PO Ocelot tries to convince this unknown figure to allow Big Boss to join him and this unknown man to become the Patriots.

I think that a lot of MGS4's answers are going to come from what happened to Big Boss after MGS PO and up to Metal Gear. As its still such a mystery and its all very coincidental that the Patriots were formed, The Sons of Big Boss were born and we don't know what happened to Big Boss all around the same time period.
Although a HDMI cable would be great and all it is pretty much useless unless you are uploading at least 720p video. I capture a lot of video for video content for my blog and RCAs are fine.

So, what you need is a capture card and software to capture video. Most electronics stores like Dick Smiths should sell capture cards. I'm not sure about price as my capture card came free with a laptop.

Although I don't use it myself (I use software that came with my card) I have heard great things about DScaler which you can use to capture the video with your capture card.
My brother showed me this clip this morning and it made me feel very frustrated. I feel sorry for Geoff as he was unfairly cut off but he did us proud. ^_^

In the video the female psychiatrist/psychologist mentioned her book. I find it hilarious how some gamers found her book on Amazon and swarmed it with negative reviews for revenge. The average is now about 1.2/10.

Hmmm, those annoying licensing issues will probably also make it next to impossible to see Castle of Illusion, Land of Illusion, Asterix, etc.
Thats a pity as I loved playing Castle of Illusion. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Castle of Illusion (as well as Quackshot and Land of Illusion) on the Megadrive as well. I only remember playing Megadrive versions of these games. Well I was pretty sure that they were MD games. I suspect that they were ported down (or up) to the other system like a lot of games were.
The screens look awesome, it reminds me a lot of Spiderman 3(DS) which has a similiar perspective and touch screen combat.
