This is great news imo, I didn't want them to limit the control method because everyone has their own tastes and I didn't want to have to buy 1 classic controller, let alone 4. There was talk of extra features on the motion controls but not sure now...
sounds terrible. first of all, its turning the PORTABLE device into one that needs to stay on a flat surface, removing the point of having a DS in the first place and secondly, like many others have said, how would you see the screens? Controlling it sounds awkward. I understand that people are desperate to find the next new thing but this isn't it (unless its not what we're expecting at all)
imo games like this should (and probably will for that matter) come with a few different control styles. Mario 64 on the DS has the option to do a few different things and I thought there was one option that worked really well for both the stylus and the directional controls. If they can get that right then I believe they can do it again. Using the stylus for puzzles and things looks really good.
The only person who calls football "soccer" over here is David Beckham and that's only cos he's gonna play in america. I play gridiron for my uni and it does get a bit confusing sometimes...

We have Ian Wright and Sean Wright-Phillips on the ads over here, anyone famous on the australian advert?
what happened to racing euro cars through euro streets. that was the great thing about the first two need for speeds!

I would go for burnout instead of the need for speed these days. Same game, one concentrates on the crashing ( = fun) and the other concentrates on the modding ( = can't be bothered!)

^ sounds good to me.

whatever they decide I'm sure it'll be good, Mario Kart can do no wrong in my eyes.
Re: Normal or Inverted (5 years ago)
normal for PC, inverted for console.

Never understood why!
If they make it like DDR I will cry...

...with laughter!
that's a shame. but this has made me think about taking out the old gamecube copy and give it a go...
^ yeah, didn't think of that. And it would never happen anyway, Nintendo just aren't that cool. But i suppose you were never really stopped from writing rude words or drawing rude pictures on the DS version.
The extra weapons would be cool but it was nice to play a stripped down version of the game. Made it more tactical and more of a challenge.
well if mario kart DS is anything to go by i'd say there would be some kind of avatar creator, hopefully something more detailed. Maybe it would even let you load up an image from an SD card to use. That would be cool.
To be honest, these rumours won't be far from the truth. There's nothing that suprising there, which makes me think that they are made up. Its not that I was ever expecting anything ground-breaking but if Nintendo were ever going to release something about a game, it would surely be something big, not something that everyone was already suspecting.
Re: Fan of Mario Kart? (5 years ago)
so why wouldn't they make a game like this for consoles? more characters, more weapons, sounds great! I think its about £5000, quite pricey, i totally would though!
so the xbox360's holding it back?

Have to say, it looks fucking sweet!

^really?

Dancesinunderwear's idea of the controls seems like the best to me (a bit like ssx blur), I like the fact that you have a free hand for weaponage. I wonder what new weapons they'll have. I'm hoping that it isn't two players in one car, i'd like to see it go back to the way it was but maybe with 16 in a race instead.
i think there should be the option for a few control schemes. The control scheme for need for speed worked quite well once you got used to it but I'm not sure about mario kart, there's so much more to do. especially if you have to fire and weapon while skidding round a corner. They can take the hopping out, that's what mario kart is, although they could make it a little harder to get a massive advantage from snaking. If they allowed both motion control and controller control then that would be ideal.
Re: FIFA 08 announced (5 years ago)
^the thing that worked about madden is that you hold the ball in your hand in gridiron and so throwing a ball is just natural. It worked brilliantly, i love madden on the wii. I just don't see how it can be transfered to soccer without doing what A13x said (which i have fears of). It could be good with rare motion control, like saving a penalty or whatever. I hope they at least give you the option to turn it off.
Re: FIFA 08 announced (6 years ago)
I don't know, Fifa07 was pretty good and it looks amazing (for a ps2). Hope they don't try and make the wii version motion cotrolled. some things are better left alone.
Re: The Big 3 discussion (6 years ago)
to be honest, all 3 look pretty good. You can tell they're going to be saving something special for Mario, he is there baby! Personally, I can't wait for smash bros, even if it doesn't have online because its the same as Melee but with Solid Snake, where can they go wrong. There's also bound to be a lot of awesome, unannounced unlockables, i'd like to see grey-fox/ninja make an appearance, he'd surely kick ass!

learn a bit more about games so you can actually make a significant comparison.
I'm sorry, I was unaware I was talking to the supreme knowledge of everything gaming. I admit that the waggling in Zelda did become a bit annoying, but it was hardly an effort. Just like pressing A in the other Zelda games, it became second nature and I hardly noticed after a few hours. I too am in a position where I don't get a lot of gaming time at the moment but I have been playing games (especially some of the Resident Evil series) where I have been playing for such a long time that my fingers started to ache. The reccomendation at that point is to have a rest. You can't slate a game (or an entire console for that matter) just because you get tired of aiming, waggling or whatever. I'm sure your arms would get tired if you played Guitar Hero for too long as well, its called "exercise". I do, however, agree with what you said about the speaker, far too loud, and even when turned down, its still horribly tinny!

holding the wiimote up to aim is actually a chore
What kind of lazy bastard says that wii controls are too much effort? did you never play duck hunt, or time crisis? Brilliant games that used a similar thing to this. Zelda on the wii would have been pretty boring if it hadn't been for the aiming of the bow and arrow. That single feature made me enjoy the game a little. If you want graphics, go and play your 360 and shut the hell up!
I only know a couple of those songs. Sure there will be many more rocking tracks though, can't wait!
Any chance of a proper Wii version? Or is it going to be another cut down version aimed at the kids?
hardware matters jack! The winner will be the one with the most exclusive games. After all, there are already several players that can run both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray so this won't be the next "beta-max vs VHS". Anyway, On Demand or Downloadable Films will be mainstream before either of these manage to take a lead. Everything is progressing towards less hardware, more software.
These arguments are all pointless because, to be honest, the same thing happened with the DS and the same thing happens whenever any console comes out.

The console developer wants to bring the console out quickly, collects together a lot of titles it can get its hands on fast (such as ps2 ports and the delayed zelda) and puts the console out. Then you have the long wait, a void if you like, where gamers are having to wait for developers to make games for the system properly, takes about a year, and then you have something that's worth playing on.

The other thing is that developers are concentrating on the Wii's selling point at the moment but once a game like Smash bros comes out that doesn't use the motion control, the developers will start to get sensible again. It happened for the Ds when mario kart came out.

That's what I think anyway...
i stand corrected. I will read more next time...
I'm not saying it wouldn't work and doesn't work in gaming, I love those games, I still play most of them on my DS (scummvm is genius) but apart from sam & max and hotel dusk, i can't think of the last time I saw a game that worked in this way (i'm waiting to be proved wrong now). These games don't work for PSP because of the lack of as mouse or similar object. That's why these type of games are fairly limited to PC or DS.
