palgn musicians (1 year ago)
hi all, cbfed hunting for an old/similar thread so i thought i might start one. anyone on palgn play any instruments? whether you're in a band or just like to jam with mates or on your own?

in particular any acoustic guitarists around? I've always been jealous of mates who can pick up a guitar and just start casually strumming away sounding and looking awesome at the same time. am thinking of teaching myself to play.

any advice? mostly wondering how much i should hope to spend on a decent piece, nothing to pricey as i'd probably upgrade to a nicer instrument if i really get into it but then also dont want to buy something that sounds shit and is no good to play.

and if anyone can link me in the right direction of where to start in terms of online tutorials and that sort of thing that would be great. a quick google search hits back with millions of results and i'm a bit in over my head. i'm not entirely new to playing music, use to drum but sold my kit a while ago, never really got further then an intermediate level on the drums because i kind of lost touch with them in the later years of high school.

also feel free to plug any bands you might be in or post up any youtube vids or anything of you playing, would love to hear them.
hmm was wondering about that
so glad this has been picked up by squeenix. havent watched the newest in game footage or trailers cos my net's capped but from the screenshots jarrods posted, it's looking really good. i remember seeing the e3 gameplay trailer a while ago while it was still known as true crime and being completely sold.

not long after i heard the game had been scrapped and was majorly dissapointed. especially since it was reported to be something like 80 percent complete, it seemed such a waste.

never been a fan of jrpgs, but with how they handled deus ex, and sleeping dogs looking as good as it does, tomb raider, and hitman absolution on the way, square enix is fast on the way to becoming my favourite vidya company.
the submarine level in earthworm jim. grabbed the port for iphone on the app store as it's 99c at the moment. been trying to get past it for the last 2 hours. it's seriously evil. you have 30 seconds to navigate through a bunch of tunnels in some sort of bathysphere thing.

it moves ridiculously fast and the tunnels change direction out of no where, and when you hit the wall it sends the sub bouncing back. if the 30 seconds passes it pops and you have to start again. its worse then the hoverbike levels in battletoads snes. it now seems pretty clear as yo why me and my brother could never beat it on the snes when we used to rent it out from blockbuster

has anyone ever beaten this level? its actually pure evil. still, i'm determined. have a 45 minute train ride tomorrow which i'm going to conquer the sub.
so this is 99c on the app store right now, at that price I dont know anyone could say no. better be quick tohugh as its only till the 20th of feb before it goes back to it's original price.

new hat - $40 from fast times skateboarding on swanston
new phone - vodafone infinite plan $50 per month plus handset repayments
rubber gameboy case - not so much a purchase as it was given to me by a mate who didnt want it, looks nice with the rest of the haul though
new games - once again play asia weekly specials has got the better of me and I couldnt help myself after only planning on getting Biohazard RE. all three ps3 games came to around $80 I think. mario land 3d $59 from jb.

no more spending for cosmo till next month
c0ckroaches. sickening, disgusting filth carrying vermin. have had a fear of them since I was maybe 11 or 12, just remeber coming home from sunday footy much in the arvo and crashing on the couch, when i woke up on the couch later on a slimy little bastard was literally crawling on my eyelid.

the sight of them makes me feel physically ill, usually have to get someone to stomp the little fuckers till i can go back in to the room where they are around. im cool with other bugs, im the kinda guy who will scoop up a wayward spider adventuring through my house and let them free in the garden, once even picked up a tarantula and let it crawl along my fingers to freak out the missus. just fucking hate roaches, even typing this post sends shivers up my spine. uuuuurgghh

edit: ha swear filter blocks the c*ck in c0ckroaches

second sore throat in two weeks. urgh no good. copious amounts of strepsils seems to be doing nothing for me. methinks it's probably time for antibiotics.
i know it says issues with sony, but i think it might have something to do with the PSP rarely getting any software sales due to piracy. i was a regular at E2Games in moonee ponds before they closed down, and i remember them telling me that that stocking the psp cost them thousands, simply because no one bought any games for it after custom firmware began to surface.

might be that other retailers had the same experience and are waiting to see how sales play out before they start stocking it themselves.
Re: One Questions (1 year ago)
its an ACER aspire 5740G. Webcam isn't an issue but potential loss of wi fi defintetley is. i suppose i could probably get a usb dongle if i had to. my main concern is that the motherboard might get confused that there's no connections to a screen and shit itself.

There's the alternative of replacing the lcd, not sure how difficult that might be though, and if it would require soldering or anything.
oh roland you so crazy
Re: One Questions (1 year ago)
question - anyone had any experience removing a laptop screen completely off the hinges/using a headless laptop? in possession of a fully functional laptop but the lcd is completely cracked and smashed. I've plugged a monitor into it and it works fine, ideally i could remove the broken screen though so it doesn't take up so much desk space and isn't hideous to look at.
Re: Funny Links (1 year ago)
Oh man, bollywood action puts hollywood to shame. Seriously this is probably one of the most utterly ridiculous and astonishing 10 minutes of a film you will ever see.

and check out Captain Vijayakanth
rad. 822. either calender would be cool.
Dragonball Z mod.

Awesome. I think i might have to pick this up on pc eventually for the mod support, missing out on the ps3.

EDIT: a funny
I've been on palgn for as long as i can remember, and though I usually manage to put out 2 to 3 posts a month at most, i pretty much lurk the site daily.

well it may not seem apparent, i feel as though i've come to know many a part of palgn's community quite well, though most probably just know me as the guy with the keanu avatar.

reading through everyone's stories and opinions and rants has become pretty much part of my daily routine - palgn is my interweb home.

anyway, seems as though the site's a fast sinking ship and won't be going for much longer so i wanted to say something before the forums dry up into nothing. suppose i'll see most on the rocket site soon though.

farewell palgn, goodnight sweet prince <3

EDIT: also want to thank all the staff at palgn, the admins, writers, designers, mods etc for keeping palgn going all these years, and all the users in the community for making palgn what it is. <3
i pledge all my $poons, though i dont think i have much. also i thought id put my fine artistic skills to work and came up with this
saw a few best men the other night, same guys who did death at a funeral and was a big fan of that so i figured i liked this, however was still a bit iffy as films centered around weddings are becoming a bit over done. basically follows english guy meeting an aussie chick and proposing to her not long after meeting, and his three best mates cause all sorts of shenanigans ending chaotically for his wedding day. borrowed a a few ideas from the hangover, but only a small amount not enough to be considered a cash in, and stood up on its own well enough
like
- scene with best man speech had me in stitches
- a mostly strong cast with a few stand outs - especially the tall ginger guy, can't remember his name
dislike
- the chick who played toula in fat pizza - why do people think she's funny?
- most of soundtrack was cheesy australian folk music with over exxagerated whiny aussie accents singing along.

still overall a pretty great film, would give it 3 and a half stars
Re: One Questions (1 year ago)
yeah tried compatibility mode but the game would still crash, possibly just my particular rig but iirc a lot of others were having the same issue as well.

these are text messages i exchange with my 17 year old cousin bennet. he is a white boy that thinks hes a crip, is currently unemployed, has a girlfriend named mercedes and is one of the most unintentionally funny and brilliant souls on the planet

by the way, this blog is 100% real.
having difficulty believing this guy can legitimately exist, but oh my god, some of the stuff he says is gold. by the way slight NSFWish

Re: One Questions (1 year ago)
one word of advice before you go and find a copy of the game is that it is an absolute nightmare to run on vista/win7. Any os xp and older should run fine but I remember hunting for a patch or fix to getting it running for weeks on end before eventually giving up after not being able to play for longer than a few minutes before crashing. not sure about the steam version or if a a fix has been released though, this was at least a year ago so it might have changed.

that said, go kotor 1 first, and then find the sith lords. played both through on xbox, and kotor 1 is still my game of the year all years. if by the off chance you haven't managed to have the plot spoiled for you, all the better reason to play through the first, as it's seriously the got one of the best stories an rpg has seen imo.

when you're done with both of them, get your hands on jade empire as well. an absolute gem from bioware with gameplay not unlike kotor but with real time combat instead of turn based.
Got back from overseas only a few days ago and just yesterday managed to get to the post office to pick up my package. Def Jam Rapstar! Thanks Secret Santa, much appreciated!
