Re: Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier Review (3 years ago)
Please please please Naughty Dog, take a break before Uncharted 3 and give us a true next-gen Jak game on PS3.
I'll still buy the PS3 version.
Personally, a game like GTA is big/expensive enough for me as it is. I'll play the game, enjoy it, and then move on. Paying more for even more of the same is not really my cup of tea - I'd rather put that money towards another decent 360 exclusive game.
I'd be surprised if a large portion of the potential market is any different, but time will tell.

Re: Is Project Joystick playing you? (5 years ago)
Absolutely.
I love it how they go so far on the one hand to single out Joe and Jane Public as people whose IP is pretty much valueless other than in Telstra's pockets, and then say that simply having their name broadcast around the world will be more valuable to non-game developers than any return on their created IP.
What's this costing Telstra? $20K in kind prizes for the winner, nothing for the runners up, and some minor admin fees for running the competition (they're certainly not spending much marketing it, feeding off the free publicity generated by news sites and ACMI).
As an ACMI member, I'm pretty disappointed they've lent their name to this corporate whoring.

Re: PlayStation 3 firmware upgrade 1.81 coming tomorrow (5 years ago)
Argh! They even said they'd be addressing further BC in this update, but Jak 1 still doesn't work!
Why Sony, why relegate one of your best PS2 games to the scrap heap?

Re: Cricket for your PSP (6 years ago)
Yes! Please let it be good - I've been waiting for a handheld cricket game since the original Gameboy.
And it's another one of the (very slowly accumulating) reasons I got a PSP instead of a DS.

Upscaling looks odd on We Love Katamari.
No joy on BC for Jak 1. Anyone tried Guitar Hero 1/2 yet?

Re: PlayStation 3 firmware updated (6 years ago)
Excellent - this could only be topped by
a) the firmware finally allowing you to play the remaining great PS2 games that have fallen by the wayside so far (Jak 1 I'm looking at you); and
b) the buttons on GH2 for PS2 finally corresponding with the PS2 controller.
Anyone tested either yet?
[EDIT] I suppose it has to be available first

Is there any word on when we're supposed to get Calling All Cars?

Exactly what I was gonna ask. I put in GH and it works, though there was an issue with mine freezing if I let it try and play the intro video. Looks like I might just take the plunge and test out the usb adaptor myself.
Re: PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility improved (6 years ago)
Oi! Guitar Hero I and II are on the updated list!
Has anyone tried them out with (a) the PS2 Guitar + USB PS2 adapter or (b) the 360's USB guitar?
This would be absolutely rocking if it worked.

Re: PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility improved (6 years ago)
That's a negative on Jak and Daxter, sadly.
Sony still hasn't updated their list to show the v1.70 games that work, but I can confirm thecompatibility of these titles that aren't on the old list -
Gran Turismo 4 SCES 51719
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis SLES 51354
Ratchet & Clank SCES 50916/P
Star Wars Super Bombad Racing SLES 50204
Which is great and all - but the only one game I really wanted them to add is the one that seems to fall by the wayside! I loved that game, it was so much more fun and innocent than its sequels. Oh well, the waiting game continues.
Props to Sony for continuing work up to now at least.

Re: PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility improved (6 years ago)
Can anyone who's got the update confirm any further BC improvements on games that previously had troubles / didn't work?
Re: PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility improved (6 years ago)
Anyone else having trouble downloading the update? I can't find it online and when trying to do it through the XMB I keep getting told that my version 1.60 is still the latest firmware.
Has anyone checked out whether the original Jak and Daxter works?
Sidzed2 - I've been playing Okami since launch with no real problems, not even the minor 'stutter' that is present in other games like Jak 3.

Re: Michael Bay attached to direct Prince of Persia (6 years ago)
Wow, they really killed this movie before it even took off.
Michael Bay hasn't even had the chance to destroy Transformers yet, and they're already handing him more canon fodder. If they wanted to make it like Pirates (which it probably could be), why didn't they hire Gore Verbinski?

Re: PS3 Forces you to upgrade! In a good way... (6 years ago)
Harris Technology - they've got some decent deals, especially for an IT shop selling TVs.
Re: American Xbox Live... (6 years ago)
Thanks Karai - part of the reason I ask is to see whether it's possible to import a cheaper US Xbox Live card (and MS points for that matter) rather than buying the relatively more expensive Australian ones.
Would be curious to know if anyone has done this.

Re: PS3 Forces you to upgrade! In a good way... (6 years ago)
I got a really good 32 inch LCD TV for well under a grand - PS3 or not, that price sealed it for me.
Re: American Xbox Live... (6 years ago)
How do you go about getting a US account?
If you order a US Live subscription from Amazon or Play-Asia (notwithstanding the shipping restrictions) will that only activate a US account, rather than an Australian account?
Does the same apply to MS points bought in the US etc?

Re: PS3 Forces you to upgrade! In a good way... (6 years ago)
Yeah, I got sucked in and bought an HDTV after getting a PS3 (not a Bravia).
The only problem was that with the PS3 on HDMI and all the leftover component inputs, I decided I needed to plug them up with a 360 and HD DVD drive too.
Great idea though - PS3 / 360 aside, I've got everything hooked up to the TV now, including a Mac Mini as an HTPC.

Re: Virgin Radio launches on Wii and PS3 (6 years ago)
Anyone else see Virgin's tag for the PS3 image on their site?

"A pile of overspecced, overpriced PS3s."
Nice to see they have no problem making these calls.

Re: 360.com 1st birthday offer, worth it? (6 years ago)
Don't know about that - I emailed from a Gmail account with all the relevant info and receipt, and got my points the next business day. Not bad, great way to top off a great deal. I never thought I'd be this satisfied handing money over to Microsoft
Re: Guitar Hero 360 X-plorer playing up (6 years ago)
I thought EB had a 7 day game guarantee? In any case, I'm still not really clear on how this informal 'recall' works outside the US.
If anyone is interested in a wee bit of disassembly, this forum seems to have two solutions: either take the back of the guitar, loosen the whammy pot and rotate it a wee bit clockwise, or simply use a strong rubber band between the whammy and the strap. Seems to work, although of course you risk voiding the warranty (though that currently looks pretty useless anyway). That saves you returning an otherwise perfectyly functioning game and enduring an uncertain wait for a replacement.
As for its usefulness, I have to agree with Mitchacho - its not about points or percentage, and all aout being a guitar hero, which makes it damn important

Re: 360.com 1st birthday offer, worth it? (6 years ago)
I sent my email last night - not sure if that's too late since the offer supposedly ended on 6/4 (unclear whether that applied to only the retail offer or the Live Arcade games too).
Anyway, it hasn't bounced so I'll wait a week and see what happens. At least a week is better than 45 days

Re: Guitar Hero 360 X-plorer playing up (6 years ago)
Mine's in the faulty batch, but I've got no idea how to work out if it actually is faulty - the whammy bar does respond sometimes, but not all the time - I don't know if that's because there are certain notes in the game where it's supposed to work, and others where it's not.
Further, I'm not clear on how to go about returning it - this 'recall' seems pretty unofficial in Australia at the moment, and I'm not sure if simply returning the whole box to JB is really going to result in any satisfaction (particularly if they don't have any unaffected-batch guitars in stock - it seems on our packaging you can't tell the batch without looking at the back of the guitar itself).

The one year Xbox 360 birthday offer ends on April 6th.
However, it is still possible to pick up the Xbox 360 Gears of War bundle for $639. This deal should be running all the way through April as well as the $689 deal which is the Xbox 360 Gears of War bundle plus the inclusion of Dead or Alive 4 and Project Gotham Racing 3. If anyone goes into a JB Hi-Fi store and doesn't see either deal, go find the Games Advisor and tell whoever it is that they are not doing their job.
I have been running these three deals since mid-March and will continue these deals throughout April.

Re: 360.com 1st birthday offer, worth it? (6 years ago)
That's pretty good - see if you can go one better and get them to match at $639 then!
Re: 360.com 1st birthday offer, worth it? (6 years ago)
I'm not sure if Kmart or Big W (or EB for that matter) would price match on a special deal like this that JB has with Microsoft - and especially on something that they're offering a lay-by period on, I would've thought they'd revert to the RRP for that.
On the other hand, I've heard of some people scoring this deal from JB for $639, since that is what they're currently selling the GoW pack for. I've rung around, and none of the JB people seem to think that the deal is anything less than $699, though the letter is ambiguous. Has anyone else come across this?
$699 itself is a great deal, but $639 is a steal and would be an automatic buy for me I reckon.
