Re: Nintendo Store Update - 27/01/12 (1 year ago)
Sadly though I think is the actual pricing for such a game. At $4.50 they really need to look at what is happening on iOS and Android. At 0.99c you could keep someone happy for a few hours.
Re: Nintendo 3DS ambassador GBA games available now (1 year ago)
Definitely some good playing there i'll pick up a couple of those Fire Emblem and Yoshi.
Played it on the Wii. It takes about 2 hours to go through everything. BIt of replay value good for laughs with a friend. Wouldn't pay full price though.
If we assume Nintendo were strategically competent behind the decision of the Wii and they did indeed catch the crest of the casual gaming wave why are they struggling to understand where that market went?
Blind Freddy could tell you they have moved onto Facebook, Android and iOS. Whilst they tried to cater for the casual crowd they left the Nintendo loyalists in no man's land (basically replicated the Gamecube and last half of the N64 era).
For someone like me who has seen every generation of gaming I see Nintendo make the same mistakes time and time again. So this rhetoric of learning from mistakes seems rather far fetched if historically we look at the decisions that were made on software releases. I remember on the N64 all we had a one stage was Diddy Kong Racing running at a pitiful frame rate on PAL systems.
Personally I think they are lucky people adore Mario for without that they would just be popping out Pokemon games.

Re: Devil May Cry HD Collection announced (1 year ago)
The first game was excellent but I stopped playing after trying 2. Might get it just wait and see.
Re: PlayStation Vita skips 2011 for US and Europe (1 year ago)
I agree Jarrod missing holiday season is not particular good. May be unavoidable due to units available.
Nintendo may get more sales be hard to tell I think Nintendo's problems are more to do with software, lack of differentiation from DSi and external forces (competition from Android and Apple). Mario Kart will most likely appeal to the casual audience (how many variants of mario kart can you play?) but Mario Bros. won't.
Vita is a different market segment appeals to a different audience.

Ah well I don't believe on what I have read any good is going to come out of it (sorry glass half empty).
Government has made an R18+ rating which will appease the masses but unfortunately serve a lesson to adults who want games that the government is still not interested in the concept.
My only hope somewhere down the track as this generation of dumb ass politicians fade away maybe the next generation coming through will have more digital internet sense so to speak.

Re: South Australia set to enforce R18+ (1 year ago)
Its about votes and perception. If you ever wonder about anything in politics its votes and perception.
The perception to an everyday person is we have given gamers and mums/dads what they wanted an R18+ rating.
The real kicker is when this system fails for the first time but I'm sure they have a spin doctor for that too.

Re: PALGN Staff E3 2011 Reflections - Part 1 (1 year ago)
Presented with all the efforts of the big 3 I was disappointed in varying degrees from each of the conferences. It was more a matter who sucked more rather than who out blasted the competition.
Highlights:
* PS Vita pricing.
* Finally some 3DS loving albeit mostly are sequels.
* PC had excellent games on display.
Disappointments:
* Wii is dead except for Zelda.
* No Xbox 360 games worth purchasing (at least my bank account will be happy)
* The Guardian not on display.
IMO the PC won this year. Thank goodness!!

Re: E3 2011 Feature: Nintendo Wii U Hands-on (2 years ago)
Think the big trick for Nintendo here is backwards compatibility. This will help developers and gamers play Wii games but as always Nintendo's biggest problem historically is getting the right amount of games on the Wii U to make the inertia of the purchase happen.
It is Nintendo after all so they confounded everybody last time by capturing a market they knew existed that wasn't catered for. Maybe the serious gamer will give Wii U the HD console of choice (assuming multiplayer environment is up to speed).

Re: E3 2011: Zelda Wii U concept screen (2 years ago)
Demonstrates the graphical capability of the controller quite nicely.
Wouldn't surprise if Nintendo does recycle TP on Wii U (they pretty much do that anyway each generation

Re: Pet Peeves (2 years ago)
The thing that irks me the most is people will behave in the the worst manner online and they wouldn't do in real life (most would be in violation of people's rights). The virtual identity somehow makes them believe its alright.
Poor behaviour is still wrong regardless of what they think and its never alright.
Companies (mainly Nintendo) rehashing games every generation stating they are catering for a new audience.

Re: Australian Gaming Bargains - 14/04/11 (2 years ago)
JB HiFi also have a 20% off sale as well.
Re: Nintendo 3DS breaks Australian handheld record (2 years ago)
Its a good unit I agree the line up is awful. But I didn't invest in a DSi either so plenty of back catalogue to keep me busy.
Re: Nintendo respond to 3DS error (2 years ago)
Its funny I rarely pre-order anymore because usually on the day there is plenty of stock and better specials invariably.
Even if it does sell out like iPad2 it doesn't matter there will be more down the road.
GAME should step up to the plate. The company globally is struggling. Not sure what there policy is on price matching I don't ever shop here. Mayhap check that angle out on their website.

If they add Move control I may be tempted (don't have kinect yet). I agree it was a really good game but the PS2 controls were a bit clunky. Haven't tried the Wii variant.
Re: Nintendo 3DS final impressions (2 years ago)
Understand why you focused on its new features it would have been a more rounded article had you played a couple of DSi games and commented on backward compatibility.
LeonJ you just keep drinking that Nintendo cool aid mate its doing wonders for objectivity.

What awful line up from Nintendo. Seems I'll may have to wait until there is a decent game that show cases the 3DS. Still I don't have a DSi so I can play games from that generation first instead.
If Sony or MS decided to release a new console like this with a crap line up it would fail miserably.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Preview (2 years ago)
Personally I'll bypass this as I've played it too many times. Good treat for the odd person who hasn't played it too death many times.
Depends on demand. If people believe the entertainment is too expensive it will force NIntendo into review pricing structure.
Apple argument is a good one but the difference there is I think the gaming culture is subtly different.
Looking forward to one I've had my eye on a few DS games but I'd rather put the $199 bucks into a newer handheld. Will see maybe DSi will get really cheap may take that path until the 3DS gets to around $300 mark.

Re: PALGN's Most Disappointing Games of 2010 (2 years ago)
Most disappointing game experience for me was Monster Hunter Tri for Wii. To be honest I was hoping for a really addictive gameplay and I was treated to poor loading screen times, combat which was laughable and it did seem to me you had to want to be doing a lot of grinding work to progress.
Think my expectations may have needed fine tuning before beginning but it was a big disappointment given the hype around the whole Monster Hunter series.

Guaranteed sale to parents wanting that special game for little johnny and little jenny. Hope they have a fun Christmas.
Re: Updated Australian Release List - 22/08/10 (2 years ago)
WoW:Cataclysm provisional date. Could be close I was thinking late November based on timing and last release.
Re: E3 2010 Feature: PALGN E3 Summary (2 years ago)
3DS sounds and looks great from the vids.
Nintendo had a great show (hmm unusual for me to say that) looking forward to a bit of old skool DK County. Bit meh on the Zelda stuff but we will see how it shapes up. Knowing Nintendo we will probably have to wait a year before we get all this.
MS despite all its massive cash and resources still seems like the 2nd cousin all the time @ E3. Kinect did look ok but the pricing is up there so not sure how that will translate to casuals etc. In my mind 360 is a core players console.
Sony had a good hit out but they lost the chance with The Last Guardian not available.
Enjoyable E3 and tks for PLAGN's coverage.

Re: Updated Australian Release List - 09/05/2010 (3 years ago)
I seriously doubt Nintendo would release Mario Galaxy 2 before an E3.
Demon's Souls seems like an age away.

Re: Demon's Souls finally gets a PAL release (3 years ago)
Awesome! Good news.
Re: Nintendo DSi price drop (3 years ago)
The reason why they release new "variants" is because they believe through marketing they can expand their customer base by adding said features. Plus the level of competitiveness in the hand held space sort is very focused. DSi is also competing against mobiles and iPhone/iPod, etc.
DSi XL is probably aimed at a more mature audience with some sight impairments and possibly towards the education space (although I expect iPad or tablet style devices to get a bit of this).
Don't believe Nintendo thinks majority of the people with a DSi to buy a DSi Xl.

Re: Finally, some Metroid: Other M gameplay footage (3 years ago)
The switching between Wii remote positions looks like it may take a bit to get used too.
Re: Nintendo 3DS announced (3 years ago)
This could slow down DSi sales but who can tell. Nintendo have NEVER been accurate when it comes to releasing hardware so I'd expect end of next year for us cats.
DSi LL was on my list of maybes so I expect I'll wait till after E3. Might put the money towards an iPad.

@ Fly but we are not trying to treat a disease and the problem with the world today is they think everything has to be "something".
If we can coin the "something" than we all feel better and pat ourselves on the back. But my point being is that this a frivolous waste of resource on a subject that doesn't require the scrutiny its already been treated with sex, drugs and tobacco.
What Australians desire is fair equity to entertainment and the right to be able choose that entertainment. What self interested parties do is obscure the argument that perpetrates their own self interests.
Like yourself I'd like to see the enormous waste of effort go into proper disease research not self interested parties.
