Re: Useful game sites... (1 year ago)

This site has been the absolute best way I've found to slow my purchase of games. It's made me realize how sad my completion percentage is. My page is http://backloggery.com/ppjim3 if anyone is interested. I still have a lot to add, but everything "current" is there.

Re: Shinobi 3DS competition winners announced (1 year ago)
I won (a WA winner in fact)! That is very awesome so thank you very much PALGN and SEGA. Not only do you give me a way to waste my time every day at work.. but now a way to waste time at home
I can't see why anyone would bother with a 3G one! That price is way too high and with the prevalence of 3G phones (that give you net access, not to mention tethering) do you really need your heavy-gaming portable to be online at ALL times? As LeonJ says the battery issue is very important given what we know already. WIFI is the way to go with the price difference.
Missing Christmas is a pretty big letdown (though expected of course) as it's gonna give the 3DS (MK7 is gonna kill it) some *actual* momentum. I'll stick with my 3DS for now and see how it goes until later on next year. Love the tech and looking forward to some decent games on it!

Re: Nintendo Store Update - 30/09/2011 (1 year ago)
Looking forward to giving Four Swords a go tonight after work for that price! Might even buy Super Mario Land. Are the controls as dated and rough as I'm thinking they must be?
Also a little note about the article: This version is now without its tweaks though probably meant to be "not" without?

Re: Memoirs of a PAL RPG gamer. (News/releases/etc) (1 year ago)
Looks like I should try and find a copy while I can - though even now I'm struggling. Amazon looks great, but of course won't ship to me. If anyone else has seen it around for a reasonable price let me know. I might have to do a few trips around town to see if I can find a copy lying in an old store.
I seem to prefer playing RPGs on the DS these days so it should fit just perfectly.

Re: Memoirs of a PAL RPG gamer. (News/releases/etc) (1 year ago)
Are there any big Dragon Quest fans in here? I played DQIX (DS) throughout a long holiday this year and absolutely loved it. Got 150+ hours on my game and not even near complete with all the mission. Having said that I've just completed FF13 and thought I'd jump into another Dragon Quest game. I've not played any others before. I've got immediate access to VIII (PS2) and IV (DS) but was thinking about picking up VI (DS) before it's gone for good. What's the general consensus on best one of that lot - or should I start elsewhere? More than happy to hunt games down to play.
Re: PSN down? (1 year ago)
Does anyone else have major speed issues with the PSN in generally? Every time I try to download a game (currently the No More Heroes demo) the speeds are absolutely horrible. I don't have any issues with my computers or my Xbox with Live - just PSN. Is it common to be this slow? I've never downloaded the PS Firmware upgrades directly from the PSN as a result of this (use my computer online with a thumb drive). I just can't figure out if this is normal or if it's been me all these years?
Re: E3 2011: Animal Crossing 3DS trailer (1 year ago)
I am really pumped for this. I loved the DS one and skipped on the Wii one so I'm about ready to dive (literally!) into this one.
Re: E3 2011: PlayStation Vita details (1 year ago)
I really don't like the name but the gear on the inside is very nice. Hopefully we can all just quickly move into calling it a PSV (or just keep NGP?) and never hear the Vita part again.
The AU pricing is going to be a really tough thing, but assuming it's region free (haven't seen anything to dispute it?) then a US model is going to be a great investment at this point in time.
I was pretty sure I'd never want another Sony portable after the PSP bomb, but this *could* do it for me once I start to try some games on it.

Anyone know if it's possible to download any of the conferences to watch offline? I'm gonna be on a flight tomorrow and thought it would be a good time to watch them.
Re: Tomb Raider debut CG trailer (1 year ago)
I think it looks great - wasn't expecting much. The last few full released Tomb Raider games, while lacking originality, were good if not wholly enjoyable. I'm glad it's Crystal Dynamics working on this reboot. Will need to see some gameplay footage soon I think. I can imagine, even with all these aesthetic differences, the game could easily end up another re-hash on the old concept.
Re: Read if You've Ever Had a PSN Account (2 years ago)
Sorry to put a little more salt on the wound, but the credit card security code doesn't mean all that much. I'm pretty heavy into coding e-commerce websites and you don't even need the security code to take money off a card, let alone billing address details. A CC number and an expiration is more than enough to jack any card over plenty of websites. If the CC details were actually taken (and I haven't done any more searching into this subject myself) then Sony have made one of the largest security mistakes I've seen on the net. The scope of their database is absolutely massive. Let's hope the CC numbers aren't out there, and if they are... there are so many that mine don't get pinched!
Re: Rumour: Far Cry 3 arriving in 2011? (2 years ago)
I absolutely hated FarCry 2. My housemates can contest to the hell it gave me, but I beat it. I had to play through it almost twice as well due to a game-breaking glitch (Malaria tablets wouldn't be given out in a quest) and each playthrough was miserable. It was gorgeous and the flamethrower was amazing but the respwans? The constant travelling between opposite ends of Africa just to travel back? Pathetic. Even if they fix all of that, I'm not sure I could do it to myself...

Re: Which was the last game you finished? (2 years ago)
Just finished the main story and 120/120 of Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I had a blast with it! Had it sitting on the shelf for years without any interest but finally gave it a shot when trying to decide what games to take on holiday and... didn't put it back down! Took me a few days but got through every story-mode puzzle! Not sure I'll grab number 2 any time soon, but when I'm ready for more puzzles I know which game I want.
Re: Batman: Arkham City to feature multiplayer (2 years ago)
Having not played Brotherhood I can't speak directly, but from all the reviews and comment's I've read the single-player is unchanged from AC2. If all you want to see with Batman 2 is a rehash of the single player + multiplayer then that's fine. Personally, I want to see the sequel be bigger and better in every way!
Batman was great - amazing in fact - but that doens't mean it can't be better. I just don't feel wasting any development time on multiplayer is really worth it - as it will detract from the single player given those resources could have been used elsewhere. Glad some people are excited.

Re: Great iPod Touch/iPhone Apps (2 years ago)
Yeah it is. I got it down a few hours ago and had a 10 minute play. Was pretty damn impressed at how it looks on my iP4. The battle system is a damn good mix of real/turn-based for me. I hate controlling games on the touch screen so this is a great way of making it work well and not giving up too much substance. Really looking forward at having some time with it after work.
Re: Batman: Arkham City to feature multiplayer (2 years ago)
It's such a shame these amazing single player games are forced to have multiplayer to get the sales they need. Instead of your standard deathmatch (do we still use that word?) I would love to see a co-op setup similar to Splinter Cell. That won't help their sales however so we'll be stuck with another half-thought out battle system that has empty servers after a month and a shorter single player game.
Re: Pokemon Discussion Thread (2 years ago)
Can anyone answer me a simple question regarding trades. I've got a US version of Diamond and just picked up a AU SoulSilver - will I have any issues trading some Pokemon to my new game?
Re: Which was the last game you finished? (2 years ago)
Last night I completed Bayonetta on Hard, which I started straight after beating it on Normal the week before. I've really, really enjoyed the game a lot more than I expected.
I've got a lot of the DMC-style action games come out the last few generations and I've never really loved them (I've probably got 5 of them sealed in my collection still!). I have always found they get frustrating and I find them pretty difficult. Bayonetta didn't have this issue!
The abilities they grant you (witch time + moon accessory) really give you the abilities you need to be a power house, and I didn't find they were too hard to use well. This alone has finally opened up an action game for me and I've loved it! I'm currently at 635/1000 on it and I'm pretty keen to power through a little more - maybe even give Infinity Climax a run.

Re: Super Meat Boy!! (2 years ago)
I got that same level, while randomly completing a level. It's become level 1-0 I think. It's a yellow box on the first world before the first level for me. I was seriously confused but loved the dusty cartridge effect. This game is 100% made for us old gamers.
Re: Super Meat Boy!! (2 years ago)
Just bought this game last night (after playing through the demo the night before) and a friend and I couldn't stop for hours. We've at about 93% for the first world (A+ on all Light/Dark levels and almost all bandages) and Light levels on World 2. It's not nearly as hard as I was expecting so far, but the challenge is there. Just takes a few tries! I'm sure it'll be at N+ levels by the end though... not looking forward to the anger!
Re: Super Mario Bros Collection announced (2 years ago)
Are these the original NES versions or are they upgrading them at all?
Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
Had a little shop in town tonight on my way home (though I shouldn't have..) and picked up Fahrenheit 451, a novel by Ray Bradbury, and Dragon Quest IX for DS.
Also picked up a large lot of comics this week - 12 on my pull list. Gonna need to start culling some series. Should never have started reading DC again. One company is expensive enough.

Re: Four Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 characters revealed (2 years ago)
The character models have so much contrast to them, they look so dark and metallic! A far cry from the original games use of big, super bright primary colors. As for the new characters, I am pretty pumped by Super Scroll! He is the easy way to include the Fantastic Four in 1 character rather than waste 4. Still would have loved to see a few of them on their own. Very unlikely now!
I hope they bring in a few more baddies into the mix - even a few new ones like The Hood or Sentry. Still holding out for Thor and a few more "different" (non-claw/non-projectile) X-men. Someone like Kitty or Jean Grey (even if she's dead!). I'd love to see what move sets they could come up with.

While I agree with you in theory... in 2018 are you going to want to play 99% of the games released now? You'll probably be playing Halo 8 anyway!

Re: Spider-Man 4 CANCELLED; Reboot Incoming... (3 years ago)
From what I've read it was more like Sony said "You have until May 2011 and you have to use this actor" and Rami said no, look at what happened with Spider-Man 3 when you forced Venom on us. It's not Rami's fault he was attempting to rectify the problems with the series and look at building a good franchise, rather than throwing in popular characters for cheap sales.
I'm a little annoyed, as the Vulture would have been fun (if rumours were true) however a high-school Spider-Man could be more true to the character. Maybe give us some Gwen Stacey - but DON'T give us Green Goblin again... please do something new.
