I have to say that "Hex" looks fake - she doesnt fit - its like they hired someone from Hi Five to start marketing the show to young kiddies.

Junglist was the real deal.
Some of this stuff should be half the price to be called a bargain.
I agree with Skiller - This sort of thing makes pirate copies potentially more attractive than legit ones.

It's the same way with DVD movies that force you to sit through three advertisements for Warner Bros Movie World etc... before getting to watch the movie you paid for. You want to rush out and get a ripped copy that's got all that crap removed.

Or people with games for their Gamecube & Wii that are not released in their region, and Nintendo go out of their way to punish those people for buying their products... Ummm what do they expect people to do?

Publishers should not put up hurdles for their legitamate customers to jump over. Intrusive advertising, Region Locking or crazy DRM schemes etc.... if it gets all too hard, customers start look at the alternatives.
Casual gamers are dabblers who offer no guarantee of repeat business.
With other priorities taking all my spare cash, I have to admit that Ive completely wound back my gaming habit this year, but this game is an exception and will be on my shopping list.
I'm sick of being treated as a Pirate. I use the Freeloader for Gamecube & Wii titles and I think it a pain that Nintendo forced me to spend money removing their region code hurdles in the first place. At least Freeloader is cheap and cheerful.

As an avid Gamecube gamer – I found many titles where never released in Australia for example Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings was released here but Baten Kaitos: Origins (the prequel) was not... hence you had no choice but to import in order to play both parts.

As for importing because the local product was inferior in release, packaging, or not competitively priced... well that is a consumer right to do so. Does Nintendo not import parts into the country they assemble? Does Nintendo not source materials at the lowest possible cost? Does Nintendo not seek out value from candidate suppliers?

The real damage from Nintendo's latest decision is that it forces consumers of legitimate products to seek out more extreme methods of protecting their existing investment. So as I stroll down a dark alley in Sydney's Chinatown with my Wii in hand, I can't help but wonder what future lies ahead for Nintendo as consumers like me take their consoles to the chop shop to get fixed up - and maybe browse through catalogues of $5 games in the waiting room.

If you’re treated as a pirate you may grow up to be a pirate. Not smart Nintendo.
I'll buy or trade for it on PALGN. If a copy does not come up for sale on this site - I'll import.

nikack - 100K fine? .... if I get raided I'll have to flush my copy of Bikini Karate Babes down the toilet.
This game has been hyped to the max for a very long time. Its possible that the actual product might be over cooked a little or just not capable of living up to everyones expectations. In this case its reasonable that Kojima is trying to deflate things to a more realistic level else it gets panned.
The market is already fragmented with such a variety of choices that Bluray is today a niche medium. Problem is the business model behind Bluray was not designed to be sustainable at a low market penetration.

The big challenge is how the userbase can be expanded sufficiently. Sony doesnt have the fuel to burn as it is currently about a third of its former market capitalisation (2000 VS 2008) and is continuing to decline in value year on year. They unfortunately compete with their prospective customers, and so far they are unable to compete in segments that are not HD driven.

The opposition being the Telco's have vastly more capital and lots of free cashflow, they dont compete with film, music or software publishers and have huge customer bases to leverage. The only thing standing in their way is technology - and that I think is an easy hurdle.
For me - I’ve got 468 Gamecube titles so naturally I need a reliable region free solution covering AU / EU PAL, US & Japan releases.

If Nintendo go out of their way to block Freeloader - I'll bite the bullet and get a Wii modded. I'll also cut my purchases of software on the Nintendo platform in response to their stupidity in making life hard for people who have paid a lot of money for legitimate software.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

This is the best news Ive heard for ages. I have so many Gamecube games never released in PAL regions and I miss playing them.

I always have a preference for the PAL region games if they are available but quite often you have no choice but to import a game from Japan or the US. The same applies to the Wii and any other console - so it's fantastic that Wii & Gamecube gamers can finally enjoy their legitamate purchases without fear.

As someone who has never had a GCN freeloader, what is the process like?

Is it really easy as putting the freeloader disc in, then ejecting in, then putting in the game?

And also, is there a possibility of having problems with online. Like connecting to American servers only or downloadable content issues? (Or is that only to do with the Wii itself?)

Those could all be stupid questions but I honestly have no idea about the Freeloader.
(1) Insert Freeloader disc, close door.
(2) Disc is read and gamecube pauses the disk and a menu says insert game. Just open door and insert game
(3) play.
Boom boom shut up mate - you'll make me loose my job!

Now where was I ? Oh yeah about to do a few hours of code cutting ... or maybe I should try beat my high score on mine sweep.
License meaning - rights to manufacture products based on the technology.

This way companies dont have to spend on R&D and dont pay royalties for using the technology. They pay $1 to Toshiba and gain access to the technology. China can dump cheap 5.25" half height drives made for PC's and market them as a low cost data "backup" medium....

There is a good market right now as DVD just isnt big enough so they would sell nicely and the "HD-DVD" standard could become the distribution mechanism for publishers of software on the PC....hmmm...companies like....like Microsoft. Toshiba could specialise on manufacturing low power drives for the laptop market and combo units with HD-DVD play/Recorder and Toshibas soon to be released 2.5" 300GB HDD in a media center.

With $1 per media it would be widely used to backup all sorts of data that people download off the web... and as Toshiba is no longer needing to satisfy movie publishers there would be no need to worry about copy protection issues - just leave it up to users to do the right thing...

Mwahahahaha!
This could be the best thing to ever happen to the format!

Next move; I'd like to see Toshiba offer up the HD-DVD licenses for a token $1 so that it becomes an Open Standard and this way royalty free low cost Chinese manufactured HD-DVD Writers & media can flood the PC market.

Come on Tosh, just press that flashing red button marked "Launch".
Hey Sony...dodge this. icon_lol.gif
Yes please.
Please change the announcement to "Take 2 takes a 2nd take on Take 2's last announcement..."

January 9th 2008; Stock of Take 2 tops as Take 2 CEO takes a second take on Take 2's announced Bioshock sequel. After second thoughts (and valuable input from LeonJ and Cookie) Take 2's top man decided that instead of a Bioshock sequel Take 2 will take a shot at producing a shock prequel to SystemShock called PreShock.

Seriously a prequel to SystemShock is a good idea.
The cost of success...
Ummm and the slogan is... They are Box-y but there good....
It doesnt make sense agreed. 360 was probably a good idea at the time - anything just to avoid calling it Xbox 2, but now thats been done I'm glad its not my job to figure out what to call it. Ummm... Xbox "what?".

If I think of a good one will Microsoft pay off my morgage?
No one likes to feel that they have wasted their money and rushing out new hardware is a great way to make consumers feel cheated.

Having said that, I believe lack of quality control, ethical marketing, and expensive pricing of software has the potential to do more damage. The sensationalism, hype and peer pressure tactics used to market games today has a cost. Disapointment is simply not living up to the expectations set.

Which of the two "evils" is worst?

I think hardware vendors can do quite a lot to prepare and ease the migration across their platforms. Particularly when the strategy is to run two platforms offered in synchronicity. In this way the life span of any product series is infact increased. IE: Xbox 360 does not retire when Xbox 680 is released. Xbox 360 retires when Xbox 920 is launched and so on...
Does it matter ? Can Microsoft not offer two product lines each positioned for different segments of the market? Provided that "Xbox-680" was 100% backward compatible with current system, and provided development of games on both series satisfied the user base - would it be so bad?

Microsoft would be completely free to position the Xbox 360 as an affordable "games" console and the new product as the premium media center... This makes life much easier commercially because they can target two distinct needs and expectation levels. Xbox 360 could be positioned with a 25% lower cost compared to PS3 with “similar” performance levels, "Xbox-680" could be positioned 35% above PS3 pricing but with 50% more performance & greater functional capabilities.

There is no shortage in production capabilities in the world so producing 10 – 20 million units for each can be done. Development of games & other content can be put on line very rapidly if demand is there.

Clearly Sony would struggle with such a competitive threat. That alone could warrant the venture. As a PS3 owner I think Sony has lost the edge by not maintaining BC. They had a great opportunity to release titles on PS2 that offered extra content when played on PS3. To me Sony's handling of this new generation is an example of how not to do things.

Ummm a bolt on extra / a plug in black mouse like thingie that does nothing but pulse...at the right moments.
I clearly was implying a seedy innuendo. icon_confused.gif
Doh! ... Bolt-on... sorry I get it now.
Hey, a "strap on" model would get my wife & mistress into the game!

Ummm ....my wife doesn't read my posts does she? ...cause I was only kidding about the make believe mistress. What's for dinner BTW?
Hey there might be a chance that Corpse Killer could get ported from the Saturn!
Wow that would be a neat trick.

I guess that assumes PS3 sales does not require any further stimulants. Maybe if Xbox 360 was repositioned with some price cuts that might make life unpleasant again.

Rez has to be my #1 favourite spiritual/shmup/rythm combo game with bolt on knob massager of all time!

I'm with döppelganger in that I can get really sucked into this game and playing the PS2 / DC versions also have subtle differences in timing presentation & resolution that makes both copies (whilst a little pricey) worth owning.

Alas this version is not for me as Ive a PC, PS3 & Wii and Im not getting another console now. Thus I pray it comes to PS3.
Ive got near 228 PSX titles - I only want 2 more: Point Blank 3 and Castlevania SOTN. I held off the last one because of cost and I have the Saturn version (Jap). One of these days I'll buy them both... I'd like to buy Chronoblue's copy of castlevania - he has a mint collectors edition Ive always dreamt about.....one of these days.

Anyhoo... I liked the whole Syphon Filter series - was it 1 or 2 that had that level with a bridge where you had to climb underneath dissarm the bombs then climb back up and neck the soldiers on top??? Eitherway they where all good fun.

Oh yeah ... there was a Jumping Flash 3... believe it or not!
Neil your lazy sarcasm with heavy doses of reality had me laughing and crying in dismay at the same time. I think you pegged it mate.

If I could trouble you all to glance back into Zoltans Crystal Ball for a few more seconds... what do you fellas fancy race 5 Angle Park next Sunday?
No surprises really for the console picks.

The choices on all the consoles are predictable. PS3 has little to offer & Drakes a cut above the current 2nd rate lineup, Wii is in a similar position with only one game that's good (actually its exceptionally good), PS2 is on the way out so there's only a trickle of offerings hitting PAL shores. Xbox 360 has solid choices but some are better played on a PC so the field is reduced somewhat. DS - Phantom is a standout – it's a no brainer, but I'd have picked the runner up (Syphon Filter) on PSP. Not much to debate then.

Of all I think the PC platform was the hardest to pick. I will go with World in Conflict as number one, that said I agree that Bioshock is top shelf, I admit to as much fun playing Team Fortress 2 as I do Portal, but then again what about The Witcher ? that game is superb, or COD4?... or the amazing Crysis ? Any could be #1 - I think it is a very tough call picking the best on PC for 2007.
That Xbox 360 Pro bundle at $449 sounds great - I'm seriously tempted.

I'd love to get something for the Wii which is just gathering dust. The Wii games listed as specials at $40 are all horrible titles - these should be in the $19.95 bin. I honestly can't see how any Wii game is worth more than $49.95 at most on launch. Wii games are overpriced to hell.
