Re: Sonic CD Review (1 year ago)
In the 90s I was definitely a Sonic kid, and almost every time a Sonic article comes up on PALGN I can't stop myself from bagging out SEGA for how crappy their games have gotten lately.

I bought this for the iPhone and was a bit taken aback to find that I found the level design haphazard and boring, with no real incentive for exploration.

Weird how your tastes change.
Looks incredible.

That said, I think that by the time GTA6 comes out they need to have a concept for a female main character.
Ahhhh, glad to see that snaking has officially died forever.
Huh. Interesting concept.

They totally had me with the Ultros fight, and then lost me with how boring the other two clips looked.
Okay, 3DS... you win this round...
Great to see SEGA continuing their excellent tradition of not doing anything decent since the 90s.
Bloody hell, Nintendo! Really - porting a Nintendo 64 game again?! We were patient and put up with more than enough of that on the original DS.

I was excited by the footage of this when I saw a 3DS demo, but I didn't realise it was just the same freaking game I've played to death already. That's one less reason for me to get a 3DS - I thought we were past this crap already.
Wait... Nintendo are acknowledging that the internet exists, and you can play games on it??

I'm confused.
I have to agree with the voice of dissent here. You shouldn't be encouraging Nintendo to pump out shovelware - this is a massive rip-off.
I love how some people can look at a handful of screenshots and think that gives them enough to judge the value of the final game.

That's like saying "I'm not gonna see Inception, the poster looks crap."
Haha, wow, what a slap in the face. Just what the Wii needs - Nintendo join in on the shovelware.
I've never been excited by Kirby before but this is an incredible design!

No interest in the iPad at all, Apple need to go back to being the forefront of technology rathar than just flaunting there name and image all over the place with subpar equipment.

Oh how I miss the old Apple.
While I'm in no way defending the iPad, I think you're missing a big part of what Apple do well. It's not just hardware that counts - it's software design and online infrastructure. The iPhone may not be terribly impressive in its hardware - everyone gets it for the App Store. The iPad has that similar advantage - Apple have handled the developer community very well, and in turn done great things for independents who would otherwise not have access to such a wide market.

also i am cautious - i thought the gba or was it ds 2D sonics - sonic rush were ordinary... the screen was too small to see where the hell you were going...
Yeeess... well I don't think you'll need to worry about that exactly with this version...

My personal feeling is pretty ambivalent towards this. It's funny - for a long time we've all been telling SEGA that to succeed with another Sonic game they had to start again from the original format. From the looks of these screens they seem to have heard that as "Make it exactly the same as the first three titles" - which is not quite what we meant; or at least what I meant.

Will wait 'til some video footage comes out before getting too opinionated on this, but my gut is telling me they've made a poor choice using the same old level design as their first impression.

It was called Final Fantasy VII, a title slightly mystifying to a new generation of gamers unaware of the previous games in the series. This was especially the case in Europe and Australia, for whom this was the first Final Fantasy game ever released.
Is that true? Final Fantasy VI was readily available to rent in just about every Australian video store back in the day. Were these all imports? I can't remember having to use that NTSC region-adaptor thingie, but maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

Full price retail, eh? Sweeeeet.

I don't see why the guy thinks pissing off MS could be the way to get what they want.
It doesn't say anywhere in the quotes that he was specifically rejecting Microsoft's claims. That was a PALGN addition. He's just giving a more detailed explanation; not exactly a slap in the face for MS.
Multiplayer will be cool - will it have Wifi though?

By the way, we’re also not quite sure why the results of the survey only adds up to ninety-nine percent.
Could be that each individual percentage ended in something less than 0.49%.
Aha!

Well... uhm.

Don't know what to say about this. On the one hand it's cool to see Ray Park there - looks like they've got some talented acrobats in lead roles here, which means that visually you can probably expect better fight scenes than in your Mortal Kombats, etc.

On the other hand, it looks like low budget trash.

It makes me sad to think of a new Zelda without next gen graphics. It's just such a waste. Ugh, you can just tell it's going to be a motion control-a-thon.
I thought Twilight Princess had already proved to everyone that art direction is more important than processing power.

This is probably the game I'm looking forward to most. I thought Twilight Princess was pretty much the best of the series in terms of pacing and plot. Really interested to see what they can do without the restrictions of the Gamecube's hardware.
Oh man, New Super Mario Bros looks freaking awesome. Getting this one as soon as it comes out.

...... crap, I just remembered I'm doing Nanowrimo. God damn it - first Wheel of Time now this.

i think its really sad, but really fortunate, that the Wii won't get a game thats RE in name only.

We get Silent Hill, a proper horror experience.
Er... yeah, okay. I can't see how you're any better off that a game you've decided not to buy won't be released on Wii. There are a tonne of games on Wii I have no intention of buying... the fact they exist doesn't cause me any real day-to-day suffering.

I'm with drinniol. I found the original RE games' controls were so bad the games were virtually unplayable - and this was back in the mid-nineties when everything handled pretty bad.
Good review, Michael. I think you've pitched this right - basically only Beatles fans are going to buy this game, and they're all going to love it. I agree completely that it's important to keep these songs grounded historically - getting a kind of sampler of their career has been one of the things I've enjoyed most about story mode.

I think most players got the same gist as you did, BUT
Well I'd say another interpretation that is probably less far-fetched is even simply that Tim and the Princess were in a relationship, he handled things badly and she left him for someone else. I really saw the game as more of a metaphor for relationships in general rather than literal. Chasing the Princess as a symbol of trying to win the girl back, rather than literally trying to rescue a chick from a bunch of walking heads.

I completely agree with Mattstep. Why does the story have to be simple and 100% straight-forward to be 'valid'? When did everyone agree to that rule? What was important to me about the game was how great it was at communicating emotions. And personally I thought it was the best ending of any game I've ever played.
Re: New RPG teaser site (3 years ago)
Looks to me like the long-awaited follow-up to Mysterious Wheel Adventures.
Re: Love to Hate #5 (3 years ago)
Makin' fun of Sonic is like shooting fish in a barrel. Actually, even easier than that. Shooting fish that have been pre-stuffed into guns.

That said, yeah... as long as they keep putting out such garbage Sonic Team deserve to continually be ridiculed.
Image 4 gave me a puzzled smile. The idea of watching a fight and screaming out "WONDERFUL!" seems a strange combination.

Most of the info just doesn't get anywhere around here because everyone loves Final Fantasy too much to give a crap about the other stuff.
I haven't been able to find any Dragon Quest X news for ages, not just on this site.
