I have always thought that some sort of dedicated gaming operating system should be able to be developed for PCs that could dual boot. Having a dedicated OS for gaming would leave more system resources available to a particular game and being simpler than a general OS, would/could be less buggy. This fictional OS that I wish for could go and collect drivers for your particular system and be able to set the best graphical options for any game developed for it. Sort of like an emulator except doesn't need another OS to run on top of and is built from the ground up to maximize performance.
Whats the pedals on the G25 like? I ask because I have a logitech Momo and although the wheel its self is great, the pedals are not as smooth as whats needed on some sims.
I go though this all the time. In my early 20's I played games every opportunity that I had, but now days finding a couple of spare hours to set up a game and get into it just isn't as appealing. It took me 6 months after our house move to dig out the 360 and I got bored with it within a few days. GTA IV had me playing for a couple of weeks but I just couldn't shake the feeling that I had done it all before. I must admit that I am looking forward to getting in to iRacing as it seems that it is what I have been hoping for, for many many years (nice clean, close Internet racing). Here's hoping.
Downloaded this last night and it seems fantastic compared to every other console "sim" that I have tried but not quite up to the standard of PC "sims". It has handling that is very well adjusted for a console game pad without being unusable without a precision steering wheel. This will be a great game for those that have some idea about how a car handles but prefer fun over realism in the sense that realism can often destroy the fun factor out of games. I just hope that the online menu is done well as it can easily become the downfall of otherwise great racing games.
Not sure if it would be classified as irony, but its good to see that these forums still attract the same level of stupidity as when I last logged on. SR did have helicopters in it (even in high definition) but obviously everything else was only in SD or would have needed a bigger hard drive. As for my view on the game I will just echo GTPod's sentiments as they pretty much reflect mine. But I will say that its still fun as is GTA3.
The multiplayer aspect of games can be so hit and miss from game to game but can't really be blamed on the manufacturer of each console. Sure there are the other services/features but as it has been mentioned before, the main reason for wanting an online feature in a console is to play multiplayer games. Some PC games have a well set out multiplayer menu and some are just plain confusing and buggy but no one blames the manufacturer of their PC for this.
Re: EB games (6 years ago)
There are a few people on this site that work for EB and a couple of them are managers so I hope you get a response from them about what it is like working for the company. As far as Money is money goes I am out of work at the moment (company's gone bust) but I have learnt in my many years in the labour force that you can be payed the same for a job that is OK compared to a job that sucks so you have to empathize with the people in certain occupations to have an idea if a job is for you.
crest: the 10 K gs was put on in about 3 to 4 months, but the heavy routine was kept in place. I'm not sure if simple carbs are better than other carbs but they do stimulate more insulin quicker and that creates more growth hormone. I am not trying to give advice that is well documented but a personal experience of the experiments I have taken with my own body so you have to excuse me if my opinions are not backed up.

Scythian: I am sure you are right as far as honey goes but I was giving advice from a poor persons perspective. As I had said I could get eggs for free and that was the best source of protein but if you have to buy them they are quite expensive in the quantity's needed to put on weight as are other essential intakes. ie $10-$15 per Kg for honey compared to 75c per Kg for sugar. I mixed about half a glass of the powder and half a glass of water to make a glugy mixture that was unpleasant to drink but did the job.

Skim milk is no where near perfect for anyone but I found it a cheap way of putting on muscle quickly. You could spend $50 + a week buying pure protein powder and then supplementing it with a carb and some other amino acids or you can spend $5 per week using skim milk powder and worry about the other crap later.

Matt: The one thing that I haven't mentioned is that it is important to get yourself a multi vitamin supplement to ensure that your efforts are not hindered by a lack of a certain vitamin or mineral caused by a diet that is not perfect. In short it has cost you very little to try what has worked for me as long as you are doing the work with weights. When you are approaching the weight that you desire switch to to advice that scythian and crest are suggesting and you have nothing to lose.
Most Mps don't know the local issues because it doesn't really make a difference anyway (unless you have 2.9 million dollars to put into super tax free) but I think it is good to see some one that has a chance of contesting Howard in his own seat.

What has your MP done for your electorate lately?
^until we see the admeisters general Forza 2 thread that is.
Hey I know this is off topic but since when did Nev become a PalGN writer? Great to see as I always thought his posts were well worth reading.
^^Exactly! but can you contest the belalong seat from frenchs forest or even penrith? I know Mosman well enough and know the ignorance that comes with it but, I also know a couple of people that live in mosman that do have a morals. Is it a sin just to live in that seat?

^ That is the problem with our voting system. I can vote for who ever I chose but living in Canberra I Know who is going to be our MP way before our vote is even cast.
Re: PALGN's Final Mod (6 years ago)
So as the topic heading says "PALGN's Final Mod" is that a promise??? I can only hope.
Just wondering how many people here know who Maxine is and how many would vote for her if they could. As you may or may not have heard, Maxine is running for federal MP in John Howard's seat of Benalong. I have not seen the redistribution of that seat but hope to hell that she succeeds. I remember watching late line on channel 2 and thinking that this is the smartest person (not just woman) on tv many years ago. I know that PalGN has a few older readers and was wondering what your views were (even if your not old icon_biggrin.gif )
Disregarding the last few years, I have learn t a lot about putting on weight in the right places. basically it comes down to pushing your muscles further than they are used to and then feeding them protein and simple carbs to grow. Quite a bit of literature will tell you to consume protein for growth and sugars to stimulate your pancreas to produce insulin and growth hormone ( which are produced at the same time ie thats how people get fat if they have this combination when not exercising). From personal experience I have found that the cheapest way to achieve growth is to drink lots of concentrated skim milk powder after a workout. As long as you are not lactose intolerant, this will supply the protein and the carbs in one easy hit without hitting your wallet. I used to work on an egg farm when I was younger and could get free eggs when ever I wanted but even after consuming many egg whites (the best source of protein) I just couldn't get above 75 Kg no matter how many weights I did (from 68Kg ) but as soon as I realized that I could play with my own metabolism I jumped up to 85Kg with the same body fat ratio. Having said that your pancreas is not an organ that you should mess with for to long as it only has a limited life span and you should look after it over your life or you could end up with diabetes or worse.

If your interested in more info just ask but I won't bore everyone just now.

P.S I do disagree with Ali's regime that he has given you as I think you should have more rest time but that is for another night.
Re: Your newest purchase (6 years ago)
bought a 6.5Kw/7.2Kw split system air con and had it installed today. bloody marvelous. If anyone is considering getting an air con unit I was told that Harvey Norman and a few other retailers have over purchased this year and will be selling them really cheap as soon as the weather cools down a bit.
No one else needs permission to use a quote, so why would EB/Atari? Having said that Chris could get them to remove the quote if he wanted as it is used out of context (ie wrong game version)
Thanks, I didn't think it would need a connection any faster.
I am going to sound like a real noob here but how much bandwidth does one need for WoW? My step son has got the game for Xmas but told me that he can't install it because it needs a really good internet connection. We have a 1 Mb connection.
OK so this shit comes up whenever some celebrity dies, but who here actually sponsors a kid from a third world country? ( Not your parents but the money that you use to buy video games). Now, I don't but have been thinking about it for quite a while and I don't want to sponsor anyone through a religious organization, so if anyone can give me suggestions , please do.

Everybody who has had a 360 for longer then 6 months should not whinge about the news of a new 360.Can you put a dollar amount on the 6 months of 360 goodness you have already experienced in comparison to the late adopters who have held off for this '360 720'?

I can't, but it's alot.Like obs said it's technology.(the same can't be said for those who bought a 360 less then a few weeks ago.......you got done.Period.)

When the the new gen xbox is announced(which it enivatabely will be in the next gen) will those of you who immediately bought this xbox 720 at launch piss and moan?Give it a rest guys, the white 360 is still just as good as the black-it's very similar to the ds and ds lite-do the same basic things with some extra features/added aesthetics.

Btw hdmi is reallyyyyyyyyyy over rated.I'm still of the belief that dvi-d(with hdcp) is far better. They use exactly the same technology(giving the exact same picture quality, wiki it if you please) except hdmi cables are as dear as poison and you are forced to run the audio signal in the same cable-which is just GREAT (/sarcasm) for those who have external speaker set-ups(which is 99% of us who have hdtv's, the included speakrs with a tv, if they even have included spearks for a start, are useless tinny pieces of crap).

You have to run the hdmi cable(with audio remember) into the tv and then route the audio back out of the tv to the speakers, whereas with dvi you run the video signal to the tv, and run a seperate audio cable from the dvd player etc to your speaker setup.

Don't get me wrong i'd still prefer to have my 360 with a 120gb drive and hdmi, but at the end of the day there is always something new and better on the horizon. If we always held off for the 'best', we'd all still be watching black and white tv's and listening to 8-tracks.

Oh-and bring back the boot!
Thats the best post I have ever seen from you Jibbs, well thought out and to the point (ie without ranting icon_wink.gif ).

I hope they do upgrade the 360 with more storage and HDMI (for new purchasers) but as far as the storage goes, I can't see myself wanting to upgrade to a 120GB HDD in the near future as any media is streamed from my PC anyway and the only thing that uses up much space is game demos. Although the option would be nice to have if I do need more storage.

Bought a fish tank and some fish for it - $450

(We were given a small tank and a couple of fish from a friend that was moving interstate, but it didn't take long before we had to update it.)

Edit: also bought a new air conditioner compressor for our 325i - $1400 (was not a purchase I wanted to have to buy ) icon_sad.gif
Re: Graphics Cards (6 years ago)
Im running a 7600gt until the DX10 cards get their act together and there is something to actually run on them (waste of money IMO).

Admiester, can we swap cards since you don't play games with yours anyway? I can throw in an "I love Nintendo" sticker if you like. icon_wink.gif
Been playing Race the WTCC game on the pc after purchasing it the other night. Some really close races to be had both offline and online but I still have a lot of practice to do.
What a pc really needs to take any advantage away from consoles is a dedicated gaming operating system (Which could be dual booted) that is designed to only play games with a few sanctioned controllers and a sort of grading system that allows games only to be played that meet a certain hardware requirement. Sort of what Vista does with its hardware score but without loading all of the functionality that we have come to expect from a PC. When the original Xbox came out it had what many thought (myself included) was superseded hardware specs but it showed that without a fully functioning OS the hardware could handle games quite well.
Re: Post your Pix (6 years ago)
sorry, no room for budgys.
Oh damn, Ugh's gone? I thought he brought a certain spark to these forums that would be sorely missed without him. Sure he is argumentative but like he had said , if you don't agree with him and you don't want to argue your point then just ignore him. But it seemed that most people wanted to argue with him because its just human nature. Zarnoss, please try and talk him into coming back.
So is this a separate game from RD3? Because that game was the death of codemasters for me as they made it way too dumbed down to be enjoyable anymore.

Re: Your newest purchase (6 years ago)
Yay for me. I finally bought a new PC. My old PC has done me 6 years without any major troubles but it was starting to have troubles playing newish games (wouldn't touch them). Got an Intel core duo e6400 with 1Gb 667Mhz ram and a 7600GT GPU . Also got Vista home premium for 175 bucks with it so I'm quite pleased. I have set it up as a dual boot vista/xp system but have not had any trouble with vista so far (the only thing I had to get new drivers for was my printer but cannon had them).
