Err, if someone's gonna call me 'douchey', I'm gonna respond. And who's trolling? Plenty of people here are more or less in agreement with me.

Benza, what? It's part of their long-standing Sunday night animated comedy lineup. When the show ceases, they'll put another animated show in its place. There's nothing else they'd put there (live action sitcoms on the night have never succeeded for them) and they're not gonna opt for dead air.

It is a far better show than anything else that has been made in the last 20 years (no, I am not trolling for comment, I actually believe this).
You are a crazy person.

Yes, it has dropped off in quality in the last few seasons, but considering quantity of topics they have covered it wouldn’t exactly be easy coming up with new show ideas.
That's why they should have ended it over a decade ago and gone out with even a teaspoon of dignity left. Also, ideas don't matter. The show is unrecognisable compared to what it was. If quality was retained, they could rehash indefinitely.

People also forget that before the Simpsons animated TV shows for adults did not exist in the mainstream. They quite literally trailblazed what has become an incredibly popular trend.
Incredibly popular might be overstating it. And Hanna-Barbera would beg to differ. Plus, they did not literally carve a track through the wilderness, they literally produced a television show.

For me, what makes this show great is the characters. The depth and breadth they have managed to build over the years is amazing. What sets this apart from other comedies (particularly of the animated variety) is that they managed to hit the perfect balance between genuine human emotion and odd-ball quirk.
Sure. Once upon a time. What you've written is not an accurate reflection of the current show.
DIU, how much Sit Down, Shut Up did you watch? 'Math Lab' and the flood episode were absolutely incredible. A couple of episodes fell flat but in general it just got phenomenally good. Describing the show as 'excellent' isn't even doing it justice.

And I strongly disagree, old writers wouldn't help, the movie had a whole bunch of those and it was still horrifically bad.

Benza, I agree, or probably would if I could possibly still care about the show, but really they shat all over their legacy long ago.

G3ck0, dick, it's painful how bad it is now and how the new seasons taint the show as a whole. And you know what else? Broadcast airtime is finite. The Simpsons occupies a half-hour spot on Fox's schedule. When it ends, they'll replace it with a new show. And chances are that show will be better (how could it not be?), so my reasoning is practical as well as on principle.
^No, that's the latest development, post public negotiations. Disappointing, I just want it dead. Oh well, two more years to go.

Benza you asshole, Beauty and the Geek (the US one anyway) is amazing, save for the rare cringey moment.

The Life & Times of Tim says you're wrong (season three in December). And Sit Down, Shut Up from a couple of years ago had some breathtakingly fantastic episodes.

And uhh… huhuh, Beavis and Butt-head returns at the end of this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!!
Yep. By not existing.
I'm pretty sure I own the folklore.org book and have for nearly six years. Might actually get around to reading it now.

I'm legitimately amazed that Google has that voice stuff, just because I've never heard a thing about it (not that I really pay attention to phone stuff). And I'll be amazed if Apple's version isn't better both because it's Apple and because Google's has been around so long now.

Google really needs better marketing.
^ I'm gonna say the Newton's a PDA and therefore a different line of product. icon_razz.gif But we're not counting it because it wasn't from Jobs and wasn't really a success.

'Paradigm shift' is Apple's middle name.
I think you'll find that's not the case. What Apple are good at is making things that a very old seem new and innovative. Example: Front-Facing camera on a phone? My Mum's Motorola Razr had one, and that was from 2001. A more recent example: Siri. Available on the AppStore for free for the past few years. Apple buys it out, integrates it into the OS, and now it's some new future tech.
I think you'll find it is the case. Front facing camera done by Motorola? Snore. Done by Apple? Snore again (but FaceTime means that snore is slicker, easier and higher quality). By the way, the RAZR came out in 2004. Few phones (under a grand anyway) even had 256 colour screens in 2001, let alone cameras.

I didn't know much about Siri until reading up on it just now, and the old app sounds pretty great, but how could integrating it into the OS and as an API for third party apps not extend its use amazingly? It'll explode. I guarantee as best they can (technically and legally), Google, MS, RIM and whoever else is left in the race will be looking to include similar functionality post haste.
Yeah, that was my point. They existed, they were terrible, largely pointless, no-one wanted one and they didn't resemble at all what we have now with Apple's or any other post-iPhone/iPad devices. Apple made them usable, desirable and created the whole App Store ecosystem. 'Paradigm shift' is Apple's middle name.
Of course there are more people involved than just Jobs (like industrial designer Jonathan Ives), but you better believe he had at least a finger in every pie cooking at Apple.

you mean xerox.
Oh good, one of you people. Xerox PARC developed a very, very basic GUI and then did nothing with it. Didn't bring it to the masses, didn't bring it to anyone. Never mind the interfaces we have today, even the very first Mac was lightyears ahead of it.

What next, someone claiming smartphones and tablets existed before Apple entered the market?
Goober, people use ripped Cider wrappers to play other games on OS X too, Cedega style, though I assume it's even hackier than using those tools in supported ways. I'd rather just run VMware or Parallels. Probably. And re: Ubuntu, OS X is a virtual joy to use, no other OS comes close on that front.

Windows PCs don't compute. icon_wink.gif If you find Windows anything more than (somewhat) functional, you do not have good taste. My main point though was that the number of Mac users towers over the number of Lunix users.
This isn't even news.

Yeaaaaaahhh… No. Laughable suggestion.

$1.80 off isn't much of a bargain.

Game is also NTSC only.

Never understood why the site allows people to post affiliate links either. There's always the same few people spamming 'bargains' with even the crap games, hoping to get clicks and credit.
That very page has a big tick next to 'PAL'.

And why the hell not? If someone's bringing a bargain to your attention, why not use their affiliate link? It's not costing you extra.
Christ this thread is so dead. Where the hell did Capoeira and Sin disappear to?

Anyone who's a fan of Party Down should check out ep 3x13 of Childrens Hospital. It'll fill you with glee. Then you can go back and watch the rest of the episodes if you see fit, but you definitely don't want to miss this episode. The whole show is pretty great, although the first season isn't nearly as good as those that follow. (The show has no continuity at all for the record, and I don't mean that in a standard sitcom way, I mean ridiculous crap happens all the time and is ignored, plus in the usual way there are no ongoing storylines.)

It's probably exciting if you're Jedi_Amara.
Guess I might check out Sanctuary if ABC2 runs it from the start again.

Fringe is alright, but then I've only seen I think three season of The X-Files. Fringe pretty much cleaned house with the writing team between seasons one and two if you didn't know, and although it definitely improved and got way less 'of the week' as you put it, I can't defend/recommend it that much. Season two was fairly enjoyable but I found the most recent season extremely forgettable, literally, I had trouble remembering what had gone on in previous episodes (but that could also be down to the broadcast schedule).
I don't even remember that level, though I do have overwhelming memories of an insanely repetitive level that put me off the game completely, which I guess must have been earlier in the game. Good god what a steaming pile of mediocrity.
I'd actually been considering asking in this thread if anyone could offer up any advice on Syfy's various current shows. I tried watching the first few (~6) episodes of Eureka two separate times a few years ago but it was way too episodic and bored the hell out of me. Now I'm thinking Sanctuary should be the one I check out. icon_razz.gif If the others are similarly annoyingly light, at least. How arcy are they all anyway?

redemption, if you like Emily Rose, check out John from Cincinnati, which could have legitimately been the greatest show ever if it had continued past its first season.

Its eery how closely the average payment value correlates with the average user ego for each OS.
Or perhaps just starvation for games.

It almost makes me angry that the average Windows using pleb is paying less than $4 for 5 games. Why even goddamn bother?

But don't you work at Cash Converters?

If people are happy to pay money, why doesn't everyone give like $5 (maybe even less, depending on numbers) to someone relatively trusted to buy a domain, a few months' hosting and set up a forum. Whatever money's left over they can keep if they so wish. Money might prove the best motivation. I'd probably put in, and I've used the game exchange like twice ever (not counting all the passive browsing of it).
Pixie, if you really thought that I doubt you'd be a member of a gaming forum. Now stop self hating and embrace it openly.

Really? Neither. I was a) expressing my view of the pain that is PC gaming without bothering to get into specifics that would lead to the kind of tedious, endless, circular crap this thread (and much of the internets) is already filling with, b) taking the piss out of the aforementioned and bringing it more quickly to its logical conclusion, and c) doing so by means of reference to one of the greatest moments in gaming-related culture.

Re: X-Men: First Class (1 year ago)
[The lightest of spoilers follow, the lightest of structure too]

I haven't seen the previous movies and I'm not really into superhero stuff, but I saw this yesterday. Knew very little about it except positive reviews and that cameo, which ruined some of its comedic impact. Mostly pretty good, but some of the dialogue was horribly cheesy. Only a small amount though, which makes it more frustrating. If it's all cheese you can pretty easily dismiss it. Lame and unconvincing romantic subplot and the guy was way too much of a nerd cliché. Undeveloped baddies, which makes it incomprehensible when some of the 'good' guys decide to join forces with what we only perceive to be unrepentant killing machines. Not enough '60s trappings. Xavier saying 'groovy' once isn't nearly good enough. Oh, and it was kind of light on plot. It felt like what it was obviously intended as, the first act in a play.

Apart from that I liked it plenty. I guess it's about a 3.5 star. But what the hell were they doing on the helicopter for all that time in that scene? Circling around?

And jesus Rose Byrne is totally unattractively skinny. And I, twisted as I am, practically have an underweight fetish. But good god. Still, hope she's in the sequel.

I bought an iPod Touch. I hate it. I hate iTunes. I hate their attitudes toward other companies and their self-important style.

Nintendo don't do this, they accept the opposition and what they do, they are not similar companies.
You're not alone in the iTunes hate, but that's something I've never understood. Well, other than the heavy Store integration, which you've just gotta expect from the company controlling the market, especially when they're so vertically oriented. Still, without knowing a single thing about it, I'd bet you dollars to donuts that the Zune software is worse, and would be even worse again if they held Apple's market position.

And I'd say Nintendo are quite comparable, they're quite happy to go it alone and innovate their asses off.

Appel wrote
Not trying to stir this, but Apple TV?
I haven't used one, but if you were already all up in the iTunes Store ecosystem then the idea of buying and renting movies from the biggest online store with your goddamn remote seems pretty great. And you can stream from other computers, plus it supports Netflix and whatnot in the US too. I can't imagine any other company coming up with a piece of hardware aimed at the same market with the same simplicity and sleekness.

Peveus wrote
Actually, as someone who had to use macs all week for almost ten years I can safely say I would regret buying an Apple product. I find their persuit of simpleness results in a lot of round-about nonsense trying to do simple things.
You know, I have experienced that, but far more often it's appreciated, and I'm as much of a power user as anyone. Microsoft is infinitely more guilty of that, especially since XP (or even Windows Me). Even with simple things like dealing with files and how everything in your Start Menu is a shortcut with a pretty name that points to a file deep within the filesystem with an odd name, and the totally unintuitive way things from the All Users profile and your own are all shown as existing on the same plane. At least one version of Windows doesn't even like you perusing the root of your boot disk and warns you not to play with files. Far more ham-handed than anything Apple's ever pulled.

I also think OS X and iOS are ugly, though apparently I'm the only one.

Oh, and Adobe products are less stable on a mac. Which is ironic, because people who use Adobe products nine times out of ten are mac fanboys.
Forgive me if I don't take your word for that, but assuming it's true that's on Adobe, certainly not Apple. I wouldn't be that amazed though, Flash Player on Mac is terrible and slow and eats up your CPU like nobody's business.
Damn, what's with all the Apple hate? Stop feeling so threatened by superiority. Buy an Apple product and regret it, I fucking dare you. It's impossible. The only people who hate Apple or their products (either in the underdog days, or the current saviour of all things computing days) are those who haven't used them yet (and a small number of the clinically deranged). And struggling to connect to a Windows server on an ancient classroom Mac back in year nine doesn't count.

On topic, Wii backcompat is a given, which would make GCN compatability trivial, but whether you'll see Cube controller ports… And old games in native HD… well, I'd like to believe, you might even say I Want to Believe, but I'm not holding my breath.
Benza, 'episode' has one P. :@

Um, Big Love ended kind of strangely. Episode felt like it'd been cut up a bit. Not enough minor characters either. The very end I sort of saw coming months (maybe years before), but then dismissed as not the sort of thing the show does much. Anyone else?

Ten episodes deep into Lights Out. Not really very compelling. Oldest daughter is annoying.

The Chicago Code, based on the first two episodes (especially the first), is very by-the-numbers, but totally (and uncommonly) adept and therefore enjoyable. Jason Clarke rules, just like he did in Brotherhood, which none of you have watched, even though it's probably the closest thing to everyone's favourite The Wire.

HBO's Tell Me You Love Me is pretty good, not to mention absurdly explicit. I've now seen Sonya Walger give Adam Scott a handjob to completion (simulated, but you wouldn't know it), and Tim DeKay's penis. I'm thinking there's a reasonable chance of seeing Ian Somerhalder's too. Still, I've seen twice as many tits as dicks, so there's that.
It's definitely not Australian, it's from the Juno team. And it was fairly high profile too.
Actually Grom, Gilligan's said they're giving carefuly consideration to that because of how it was so widely interpreted with the way the camera swings around and all. And because no-one really wants to believe that it happened.
