Re: Dude, Check Out The New Xbox Experience! (4 years ago)
So is it delayed 2 more days for Australia? I just logged in and it said NXE coming 21st, now with a 2 day countdown.
wierd since i'm sure they had countdowns to today. perhaps server load prompted the delay.

Are you getting Uncharted?
Too much goodness, nowhere near enough time. I just graduated my uni course and start FT work on Monday
Re: Mass Effect available today in Australia (5 years ago)
just a heads up, i just picked up at JB Hifi in Kedron QLD (60 Gympie Rd) for $79 woot.
It was funny as I was also buying a HDMI cable for my new ps3 and the guy there saw me holding it before purchasing. He went 'uhhh mass effect, that isn't meant to be on sale till the 22nd', he didn't do anything about it though and they still have copies on the shelves and behind the counter.

Re: Is PS3 worth the money? (5 years ago)
imo it's good to import from the US, unless you want your PAL PS2 games to work on it (though I've never owned a sony console).
I just scored a 60gb ps3, 2 sixaxis, Resistance and Ultimate Alliance for 510 AUD.

Re: Questions about importing a US PS3 (5 years ago)
I have a brother over in the states at the moment for a few weeks. I'm interested in getting him to pickup a 60gb model if he can find one. Does the 80gb still have some backwards compatibility if that's all he can find? I haven't got a PS2 but interested in picking up MGS2 and 3 to play through.
Also, what about when he comes back in the country, he'd get hit with a high import fee right?

i used to talk to bronzetiger on msn years and years ago about the release of lotr:ttt and stuff like that. then he disappeared off my list or somehting. must have blocked me lol.
anyway, he may remember me. i remmeber he was a devout nintendo fan and was working at target when xbox was just launnching and going "oh no i have to putup these xbox promo things everywhere" and then ended up 'turning to the dark side' so to speak.
ah and now the xbox 360 is launching. this is crazynesss internet nostalgia.

i won turok 2 for n64 when i got a subscription to n64 gamer magazine. i already got the game for xmas (when i got the mag subscription too). I read the mag, saw i won the game, so when it arrived, I took it to EB and swapped it for Ocarina of Time. Was great as I had wanted Zelda

been speakin to some ppl trying different things...
one guy burnt the zelda iso to mini-dvd-r and swapped the disc during gameplay and said it works fine. However he said after he saved and it asks if you want to continue play, and you select no, it messed up. But at least it proves that the cube can read the mini dvdr's
All thats needed is a bootup and the scene will be in full swing...although it may never happen.

well, more progress today. action replay and freeloader have successfully been booted on a retail gcn...
I have great news for everyone! I have finally worked on and finished a public version of my GameCube Phantasy Star Online (PSO) code sending tool! This program allows you to send binary and DOL format GameCube program files to your GameCube and boot them. All PSO regions are supported: U.S. V1.0 and V1.1, JPN V1.0 and V1.1, and PAL 50Hz and 60Hz. Much more information is included in the readme.txt file and a simple little demo of mine is included as well. The demo is completely free and has been written without any use of the illegal SDK. It is easily compilable with Torlus' GCC release and I will soon release the full source code once I clean it up a bit. Also, a friend of mine, Titanik[CZN], has written his own PSO code loader tool. It is very similar to mine, as it supports loading both binary and DOL files and works several PSO versions as well. He also wrote a free demo of his own and has included it along with his program. For some strange reason, however, my loader cannot boot his demo correctly and likewise his loader cannot boot my demo correctly.
So, it's probably worth your time to download both GC PSO program loaders to try them out on your homebrew GC programs. Finally, GameCube homebrew development may begin! Download my GC PSO program loader (with my little demo included) here and Titanik[CZN]'s GC PSO program loader (with his test demo as well) here! Have fun and post about the programs in the GCDev.com forums!!!

REmake or RE0???? (1 decade ago)
hey guys, i have never played a res evil game before but have wanted to, esp the new gcn versions
i can get an ntsc version (i have a ntsc machine) for 52AUD... should i buy it? and which is the better one? REmake or RE0???
i can get an ntsc version (i have a ntsc machine) for 52AUD... should i buy it? and which is the better one? REmake or RE0???
also guys this would be possible as the hackers have managed to get hold of the NR-Writer software and reverse engineer it too, so they should be able to write it the way that they want, and with the help of a mod chip it may become readable on a retail gcn
And the burner that they use to write the discs is the Matsushiiita DVD-R SW9501. There is info how to burn using this burner in the pdf file of the NOA dev kit which is available at certain locations on the net...
These releases are real. They were released on the 14th and already people have created tools to extract the audio into windows .wav files and also the headers of the isos. Once a mod is created it could be very possible that the piracy begins to happen.
note: i had to write matsushiiita weird cos the forum censored it as it thought it said shit

Skies of Arcadia...discontinued in Australia? (1 decade ago)
Hey guys,
I have a NTSC cube but I'm posting for a PAL friend. He wanted Skies of Arcadia and he went to EB the other day and they said it was being discontinued? WTF?
Is it even out here? I dunno cos I'm not really following PAL release dates but anyways if you could give me an answer for me to forward onto him that would be great...
He also tried calling NAL but they were 'f***ing useless' lol

Nintendo Online Plan (1 decade ago)
Well this has been debated for the past year and there are strong rumours from places that Nintendo does indeed have an online plan that they want to unleash which will be free for consumers. Whether this happens at all or not is going to be impossible to determine. There has recently been claims and I also managed to find this very interesting page at GameSpy, who seems to have set up servers for Gamecube Online.
Anyways, here's the article:
GameSpy To Provide Middleware Tools and Online Service Support for NINTENDO GAMECUBEâ„¢ Developers
Complete Middleware/Services Solution Gets Developers Online Quickly, Easily
(Irvine, Calif.) – May 21, 2002. Internet online gaming leader GameSpy Industries today announced its support for the just-announced Nintendo GameCube online gaming initiative. The company, which has become an authorized Nintendo tools provider, will port its middleware and back-end services developer suites for the Nintendo GameCube, for shipment to developers in early July.
GameSpy provides game developers with a collection of middleware tools which, when combined with GameSpy's back-end server infrastructure, enable a low-cost turnkey online gaming solution. GameSpy's tools are easy to integrate and interface-neutral, allowing developers to provide the following functionalities seamlessly within their Nintendo GameCube games:
In-Game Player Matchmaking Text Chat, Instant Messaging, and Buddy Lists
Online Competitions and High Score Ladders
Online Data Storage (for virtual memory card applications)
Usage and Game Statistics Reporting and Analysis
Data Transfer to and from the Internet
GameSpy's tools greatly reduce the cost and time required for developers to bring their titles online, and to manage the online gaming experience after game launch.
"Our middleware tools will allow Nintendo developers to add critical online features to their Nintendo GameCube games within a day or two, in most cases," said Mark Surfas, CEO of GameSpy. "But that's just the beginning of what GameSpy provides. We operate the servers, provide the bandwidth, and manage the whole online back-end once the game ships, saving publishers and developers hundreds of thousands in potential hardware, connectivity and staffing costs."
GameSpy's technology and back-end services have been powering online gaming experiences for more than five years, across all major next-generation console platforms and all major PC operating systems.
"By working with GameSpy, we're able to bring our developers proven technology, a fully-outsourced back-end solution, and years of expertise in making the best online experiences for game players." said Jim Merrick, Network Marketing Director, Nintendo of America Inc.
Nintendo GameCube developers will be able to purchase GameSpy's Developer Toolbox for $995, which provides complete SDK source code, sample applications, and documentation, in early July, to begin testing code and back-end integration. Pricing for deployment licenses is based on the specific toolkit suites used by the game developer.
For more information on GameSpy's middleware, and to become a GameSpy registered developer, visit www.gamespy.net or send e-mail to devrelations@gamespy.com.

EDIT: also found this:
Today I went to the Gamespy booth to conduct a small and simple interview with GameSpy's President, Jon Epstein. After exchanging business cards, the questions began.
The word "tunneling" was introduced to many gamers with the software that Gamespy released for Halo and many of other Xbox games that didn't utilize Xbox Live but did use LAN.
Tunneling IS NOT being used for any of Nintendo's upcoming LAN utilized games. The information which came to me as a huge shock, is actually better than it sounds. According to Gamespy, Nintendo came to them about a year ago for LAN software. Nintendo did not want to use "tunneling, because it would require gamers excessive hardware such as hooking up multiple cables, computers, hubs, and what not.
Instead, Mr. Epstein, went on to reveal that Nintendo will be using Gamespy developed "in-game" software. Much is not known about this except the fact that all gamers have to do is hook an internet cord from the Gamecube to their broadband modem and that's it. You are online as soon as you plug in the ethernet cord and choose the LAN option.
I repeat: "tunneling" will not be used and extra hubs, computers, and extra ethernet cords will not be needed as Nintendo wanted to keep it simple. It is simple in-game software that will be used in upcoming Nintendo LAN games.

HALF LIFE 2 (1 decade ago)
This game looks frickin amazing, i got the four big videos off IGN (about 200meg) and wow.
It all runs in real time with amazing lighting effects and beautiful models. You can pretty much pick up or rip off anything from the environment and move it around all in real time. If you can see something possible, you can do it.
Look up this game, it looks set to be revolutionary, I'm not too much of a PC gamer but anyone who sees the vids will agree it has to be in the running for game of the year.
its supposed release date is september 30 this year!! bring it on.
btw, you can't look at screenshots to see the amazingness of this game, try get those videos off IGN. Your jaw will drop...
also its optimised for the radeon 9800 and judging by the videos i think its gonna need a beast of a machine to run it. Seriously the gameplay looks 1000 x better than doom 3 from what I've seen of it.

is it true that sony will update the 40gigs ps3 so that in the future will be able to play ps2 games?
Your better off purchasing a 40GB PS3 and if you really do wan't to play PS2 games, either keep the PS2 you've got (if you do have one) or just purchase one new, since the added price will be cheaper to purchase a 60GB PS3 (genuine) combine.
