Re: Mods=Nazis (5 years ago)
Oh. Perhaps the warning/banning guidelines should be added to the rules, just so people know where they stand.

And I'm still morally outraged about that warning. This is the biggest injustice since Clinton was impeached.
Re: Mods=Nazis (5 years ago)
gg Luke, good to see the admins listen to the people. I feel some justice has been served.

EDIT: Out of curiousity, am I still officially warned and how many warnings result in a ban? I was unable to find info pertaining to this.

i certainly don't mind being negged if the post justifies it, or if you disagree with my opinion, but why neg a reminder of the rules?
That's the thing, the rule is shit. We all know that on every forum on the interweb that the 'What are you listening to?' thread is a blatant +1 thread. What's the point in trying to hide that fact? Attempts to turn it into discussion are always futile.

Also, theory was giving out his fair share of the neg in that thread, I just wanted to join in the fun icon_smile.gif

WTF guys, I just got this PM:

Hi,

RE: my post here - http://palgn.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=360754#360754

Please remove your negative vote as I am a moderator and only trying to enforce the rules for everyone's benefit.

Consider this a warning. Hopefully it's just a one time thing.

Thank you.

Firstly; fucken LOL at a mod getting so cut up over a single nep. You need to harden the fuck up. I modded the Hyper mag forums for two years, where I had to put up with shit much worse than this on a daily basis. You wouldn't last a week modding there.

Secondly; is nepping a mod actually a warnable offence? The forum rules certainly mention no such thing. At a stretch, you could perhaps classify it under "General Annoying Behaviour", but that's one hell of a stretch, as it only annoyed one person and hardly affects the forum public in general. That and I was merely using the rep/voting system. Do PALGN mods regularly intimidate users into withdrawing neps against them? And are there avenues for regular users to pursue to have negative votes against them removed if they feel they are unwarranted, or do only mods have this luxury?

What I want to know is do the other mods agree with this unjust warning? If so, this takes moderating standards to a new low.

Oh yeah, and sif I'm removing it.

Modding on PALGN: Serious Business.
Re: The Black Crusade (5 years ago)
There's already a Black Crusade thread, and on the first page no less.

I'm going, but only to see Arch Enemy. Hopefully Trivium will be last on the bill, so I don't have to endure their set.

Did somebody say heavy? >_>

Check out some Immortal, Arkhon Infaustus, Dying Fetus, Pig Destroyer, Axis of Perdition and Mistress. I take no responsibility for the raping your ears are about to take >_>

EDIT: Oh, and Anaal Nathrakh too.
Re: Soundwave 2008 (5 years ago)
I hope Bleeding Through do their own headlining shows while they're over here. There's no chance I'm coughing up to see all those other shitty bands.

From what I've seen of them live, they're not very good guitarists.

Pretty mediocre.
Of course they're going to be a little sloppy live when they're jumping around and kicking each other up the arse like madmen. But I'd much rather take a sloppier, but more energetic performance than one in which they're relatively inanimate but hit every note.

And you don’t like Angela? She’s pretty full-on – it took me a while to get used to her – but from what I remember, their earlier stuff was even heavier and less melodic? I've only heard very little though.
Quite the contrary, she has a much better voice than their first vocalist. It'd just be nice to hear a few more songs from their first three albums played live next time, in particular, Pilgrim, Diva Satanica and Siverwing.

As far as I'm aware, every band on the Aussie leg of the tour will play every city. But don't quote me on that icon_wink.gif
Re: DragonForce (5 years ago)
Awesome live band. Their Perth gig was the best I've ever been to. The guys are born entertainers. And although I generally dislike Power Metal, I totally dig the 'Force!
Re: The Black Crusade (5 years ago)
I've got my ticket, but I'm only going for Arch Enemy and to heckle Trivium. Apparently Shadows Fall are on the bill too, who I don't mind.

I'm much more looking forward to Festival of the Dead though. And Gigantour for the Lacuna Coil factor.

EDIT: Hopefully Arch Enemy play more of their pre-Angela stuff, they only played 2 pre-Angela songs when I saw them last year icon_sad.gif

Artist: The Gathering
Song: Rescue Me
Album: How to measure a Planet?

It feels like its been an age since I've listened to The Gathering, which makes it even nicer that they've popped up on my random playlist. How to measure a planet? is such a great album... I really should copy it across to my MP3 player ans listen to it more regularly.
You sir, have awesome taste in music. In case you hadn't heard, Anneke left the band to do her own thing a few months ago. I was heart broken. Fortunately, her new project is shaping up quite nicely. And on that note:

Band: Agua de Annique
Song: Witnesses
Album: Air
A song from Anneke's upcoming solo album. Awesome stuff, and not too dissimilar to The Gathering icon_biggrin.gif

Can yall recommend me some music?

My tastes are Cog, Karnivool, Butterfly Effect, Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam, Killswitch Engage, All that Remains, Josh Pyke. Any decent guitar music. I'm going through a harder phase. Metal/hardcore/metalcore would be good.

Also I feel like a newb and need to catch up on the oldies but goodies. Lamb of God, Isis, Opeth, etc. Recommend that sort of stuff. K thx.

Willing to experiment with different forms of music. Industrial, math rock. whatever.
Here's some great post-hardcore/sludge bands you might enjoy that aren't too dissimilar to Isis:

Battle of Mice
Cult of Luna
Burst
The Ocean
Neurosis
Red Sparowes (Features Isis members, but more post-rock)

Anyhoo,

Song: Circle
Band:/ Cult of Luna
Album: The Beyond
Why: Just going through a big post-hardcore/post-rock phase at the moment I guess.
Re: Zombie Movies (6 years ago)

Land of the Dead
Shaun of the Dead
28 Days Later
Braindead
Stacy AKA Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies
Dellamorte Dellamore
The Beyond
Zombie Flesh Eaters (If only for the zombie vs shark scene)
Return of the Living Dead

im deciding whether to get the jackson kelly or spend less money and get a bc rich warlock earlier
As someone who owns a Kelly KE3 and has spent a week with a mates entry level BC Rich Warlock I'd say you should definitely save a bit extra and get the Kelly. If you should around I'm sure you could probably land yourself a new Kelly KE3 for around 1000 bucks. Probably wouldn't be the one with the rad skull design though. Or perhaps look at getting a second hand Kelly.

Crestfallen, I know bugger all about amps, but I think it's either a solid-state or a hybrid.
Band: Anaal Nathrakh
Song: Cataclysmic Nihilism
Why: Cos fucking brutal grinding Black Metal owns. Metal to tear your face off.
Re: guitar (6 years ago)
It's essentially a gig consisting of John Petrucci, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai wanking their guitars.

In other news, picked up a new amp on Friday, a Randall RG75G3. Not bad, distortion just needs to be a little more brutal though.

Eyyy, very nice! Not sure where that place gets off selling it for $1800 though. KE3 Kelly's generally sell for about $1200!
Re: guitar (6 years ago)
I'd personally steer clear of Ashton beginner guitar/amp packages. My mate had one, sounded absolutely god awful. I started off the with Ibanez GAX30 (Pictured above), which is a pretty decent beginners guitar. Bought the guitar and a little Marshall MG15CDR 15watt practice amp for 500 bucks new, which wasn't a bad little package, much better than an Ashton guitar/amp combo.
Re: guitar (6 years ago)
Here's my axes:

Ibanez GAX30 and Jackson Kelly KE3. The Kelly is teh sex.

Favourite guitarists:
Michael Ammot (Arch Enemy)
Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom)
Samoth (Zyklon, Emperor, Scum)
Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)
Herman Li (Dragonforce)
Gian Pyres (ex-Cradle of Filth)
Satyr Wongraven (Satyricon)
Eyyy, nice to know someone appreciates my dodgy bootlegs! icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah I have heard about that too and it would be good if she did come out to Australia. Of course I wouldn't be able to see her though considering no one comes to Canberra. icon_wink.gif
I've got a feeling that Perth will probably get jipped too icon_sad.gif

To be honest, there's a few lacklustre tracks on her album, but they're far outweighed by the many great ones. Hoodie, 9 to 5, Love Me or Hate Me, Public Warning, Tango, My England and Gatheration are all the shizzle!

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Well, I'm not really sure it deserves to be 'top-ten list' meterial, but I'm running out of albums that I can remember. This is aniother solid album from Katatonia, if you like their previous stuff then you'll probably like this too.
Shit, forgot about this one. Took a while to grow on me, at first I though all the tracks were rather samey, but after a while you come to appreciate the subtleties in every song.

Also, good to see another Gathering fan around icon_biggrin.gif

I recently bought Napalm Death's newie, Smear Campaign, which is definitely a worthy follow up to their 2005 effort. Even after 24 years they still grind like motherfuckers and sound angrier than ever icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: Also, I acquired Lady Sovereign's debut LP (Which I'll buy once it's released in Australia), which is pretty fucking rad. And I don't even like hip hop! I like her style, she must be doing something right if she can get me to enjoy this type of music.
Re: Rock 'n Roll! (6 years ago)
Black Metal.

Favourite band: Toss up between Cradle of Filth (Despite them not being 'true' Black Metal), Satyricon and Borknagar.

Solo: Burzum (Actually a one man ban, but close enough)
25/50 so far, and I've been at it for 25 minutes. Though I think I've hit the wall, now that the obvious ones are gone icon_sad.gif

EDIT: 30 and counting.

EDIT #2: 35. I'm determined to finish this thing unassisted.
I haven't really heard many '06 albums in full, in fact, I don't even think I've heard enough for a top 10.

Borknagar - Origin
Caught me off guard by releasing a folk album, with no metal insight.

Satyricon - Now, Diabolical
Not a patch on the Satyricon of old, but you've gotta respect them for pushing the boundaries of Black Metal.

The Gathering - Home
A bit of a disappointment. Released by anyone else it'd be a great album, but since it's The Gathering, it's merely a good album. Still has some great tunes though.

Lacuna Coil - Karmacode
Although undoubtedly their most commercial album, I think it's also probably now my favourite of theirs. The Depeche Mode cover is fucking awesome!

Bal-Sagoth - The Chthonic Chronicles
Pompous, epic Black/Battle Metal at it's best.

Zyklon - Disintegrate
Hated it at first, but slowly grew on me over time. Although pretty simplistic when compared to the two previous albums, it still has a nice post-apocalyptic overtone going on.

Psycroptic - Symbols of Failure
Just great crushing technical Death Metal. Pity about the complete lack of guitar solos though.
Edge of Sanity - Everlasting

Old school Swedish Death Metal owns.
Burzum
Satyricon
Emperor
Cradle of Filth
The Gathering
Opeth
Arcturus
Borknagar
Amon Amarth
In Flames
Arch Enemy
Akercocke
Behemoth
Anathema
Dimmu Borgir
Bathory
Windir
Immortal
Sodom
Sabbat
Kreator
At The Gates
Napalm Death

That'll do for now, I have far too many to list. Basically, metal is win.
