Have any of you seen a movie calledPhenomenon? Does'nt Syler actually cut the top off the heads in order to meld wit hthe DNA? My drunken mates theory is that she never was a true "hero" so to speak. Why? Two reasons.. the anurisim(sp?) in her brain was discovered around the same time her super-memory started, and Syler only killed her. There was no cool, slow, skull removing goodness. Just a quick flask of ... death and he nicks off. I rekon it was the blood clot that was causing the super-memory, not the ... whatever it is that has made the other heroes. Sylar realised this.. somehow.. (cos he is Syler and he knows how things work.. see?) so he just nicked off without ripping her DNA out of the top of her head.

It is a theory.. but in all honesty I just think it is yet another huge gaping hole the size of a .... in the writing icon_biggrin.gif

its that magnum or Blue Steel
XD
I think everyone has seen most of the flaws. I am also quite sure that most people do not care. So far the show has a really nice balance. Sure it has more holes than a sponge, but it still manages to entertain. In my case (and quite a few people I know) the holes in the show actually add to the entertainment rather than hinder it.
Saw The Wrong Man last night. Not as good as it should have been. Don't really need to say much about this movie myself as Clint Morris has already done it for me. that review is almost exactly my own take on the film. Only difference is Clint is a little more lenient on the third act "turn" than I am.
I personally find HIRO and ANDO the characters that are the most sloppily integrated into the events of the series. It really does not matter because the characters are a joy to watch. I too find that most people can not get enough of those two (or more accurately HIRO.. Ando is just there wit hhim.. most of the time) and I can understand it considering they seem to be the most entertaining.

Personally for me the show is absolutely owned by Jake Coleman as Mr. Bennett. This is withut a boubt his best work since Nightmare Cafe. His performance every week is absolutely stunning, which is rather unfortunate for every one else in the cast as they are really forced to play catch up. The man stands tall as a beckon of acting gold in a show where he is surrounded by a sea of Average performances.

...and yes, I say that fully aware that both Adrian Pasadar and Greg Grunberg are also in the cast. Two actors who undoubtedly can lift anything of even average quality to something better. In HEROES they are as reliable and as enjoyable to watch as ever (even when working with the terribly sloppy writing).

But, when it comes right down to it, this show really is only tying to do one thing. It is trying to have fun. In this regard the characters of Hiro and Ando have that covered in spades. They are a delight to watch and were a major part of why after giving up on this show at episode 4 I decided to play catch up weeks later when I was given the chance.

I am so addicted to this show I have now sat thru all 18 episodes twice now. Once with my parents, and the second time just this week past when a mate of mine mentioned he wanted to see it, but missed it when it was on TV.

Shows like this and Supernatural that prove to me that altho it may be a dieing genre, there is still a lot of fun left to be had in prime time fiction.

Michael Bay directing a PoP movie?! Who in their right minds thought that was a good idea? Damnit all, i can just imagine it now:

The Prince, a muscle bound meatsack (probably Vin Diesel), has to infiltrate the highly guarded (and well stocked of explosives) castle/military compound of a terrorist faction to rescue 'his girl' and take revenge for the death of his best friend (a dog) at the hands of said terrorists. There will be lots of 'tense' stealthy scenes as The Prince (a stunt double) acrobats his way past guards, breaks their necks mid-air, and then lands while simultaneously lighting a cigarette and spitting out a cheeseball one-liner.
The thrilling climax will occur after a sprawling fight-scene with 'The Boss' (accompanied bad metal/techno) which leaves the prince out of breath and nearly breaking a sweat, and the terrorist leader all but crippled. Princey will grab 'his girl' up into his arms, mumble some clichéd Bulls***, and then flick a cigarette into the conveniently placed stockpile of highly unstable explosives. In slow motion, as a giant fireball is licking at their heels, the Prince will have to wall-run out of there, jump to and then swing off a low-flying helicopter that happens to be passing, catch a piece of hanging fabric on the descent, and then bullet-time dodge past some spinning blades (and over a pit of crocodiles with bees in their mouths) onto the safe ground (mere metres from the massively exploding building) where the shot will fade-to-black while he simultaneously says "That was for Rover!" and gropes 'his girl'.

It'll break new records at the box-office, and spawn a slew of crappy merch and a game of the movie of the game.
That sounds like the greatest movie EVER!. Seriously. I am lining up to watch it now!

Man I cant wait for the 4th movie in the series that will undoubtedly be Prince of Persia: IN SPACE
Aren't the RE games based in America? Would that explain the english? Thats a bit of a wake up. I consider myself a huge (as in xbox hueg) fan of this series, and yet I can't actually remember if it is exlicitly mentioned that Racoon city is in America or not. I fail.

As for the ad? I absolutely love it. It is brilliant. Someone gets it. Someone REALLY gets it.
Rumor has it that if you can not get it from Kinokuniya then it is no longer in print. Keep in mind that all you need to buy a book is the ISBN number. Any book store can order any book if you know what it is you want.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is the single greatest manga ever written. SERIOUSLY.

Also major nods to to Azumanga Daioh* and Yostuba.
I fully expect most people on these boards would not like any of these. They mostly star Female characters predominantly, and have almost no action what so ever. Also, there is almost no plot at all, mostly because there is no need for one. Oh, and in case I have not mentioned it yet, they are all brilliant

*there is also an Anime based on this. It is highly entertaining and very very good.
You obviously did not watch the film in the right frame of mind then.. IE with it turned off, Preferably inebriated, with mates. But to be perfectly honest, even alone and totall sober, the marine will STILL be a far more entertaining movie than Casino Royale.

oh.. Butterfly Effect blows major chunks. I did not watch it personally as I expected it to be that bad. I sat in the nest room listening to Jason Flakner with isolation Headphones.. and I coudl actually feel the suck of the movie reaching out thru the walls! That and the people who watched it said it was complete fart.
Finally got to see Casino Royale. Bitterly disappointing. So much for 'rebooting' or 'restarting' or whatever the hell they were on about the twelve months leading up to it. The only difference I could see from this snorefest and the 20 other snore fests that came before it was the absence of Q and the presence of a Lead Actor who finally looked like he could actually hurt you. Pity there simply was not enough biffo and far too much everything that makes James bond films suck.

It left such a bad taste I simply had to watch The Marine again just to remind myself that movies with asplodey stuff still can entertain.
He is right because he agrees with me ... I do not agree with him, so he is an idiot

Yep. Quality blogging rite there. You have to love self righteous preachers on any topic. No matter how well informed or researched their content they always manage to come across as entertaining. Credibility, on the other hand...
So I read that whole article, and am still not sure what the point was?

Is sexism in games a good thing or a bad thing?

note: Games != Real Life.

The thing that I like about sexism in games, is it plays a vital role in most steriotypes and cliche's. The handsome prince has to save the beautiful princess. Its been a sucessful storytelling backbone since the dawn of time. Why? Because its a GOOD STORY.

Mad props to mentioning Jade from BG&E. Possibly the coolest Female protagonist ever. Just goes to show a well developed character can still have a nice rack, ass, and bare midrift so the boys have something to look at.

Mention should also be given to the major overhaul Lara Croft's personality and character got in TR:L. Yes she is still the hottest pixels in gaming, but now she (finally) has a heart and soul as well!

Sexism is still rife in games. It always will be. They are just getting better at shaping it for a more balanced audience.
Bitches dont know about good concerts (someone shop that onto the T-shirt guy macro pls icon_smile.gif )

1978 - The Osmonds. advertised as the first world tour ever to include a million dollar Lazer show (from their teeth!)

1980's (a few times) - Cliff Richard! nuff said.

I have seen a few others, but honestly.. when you have seen the Osmonds and Cliff Richard, nothing else compares.

I just finished watching the marine and lol its so bad its funny.

My fave quote of the movie

John: I should go home and see my wife now.
Other guy: Yea shes hot.
John: *stares*

Dude that movie is FULL of quotable quotes.
I am always a huge fan of referential humour...
"This guy is like the terminator"

Honestly that movies has added the best new content to "beer and the blokes" nights since Sahara. Sure its not as good a movie, but it is most definately as entertaining. Altho as far as that sort of movie goes, Con Air still holds the top spot. Followed very closely by the last boy scout icon_biggrin.gif

completely ot: the spell checker is American? apparently humour is incorrect. *sigh*
oh rite.. the money. Ok. I must have had a brain fart there. I was looking at the numbers in the article and was all "huh?". But yes, it does also specifically say spending, not numbers moved.

Thanks for that, I thought I was missing something!

So because I totally suck @ math (batman has Joker, I have math) is there a cost comparison yet? Seems SONY would have made more money on their launch than Ninty or M$, but would be cool to know just how much more money.
I Gave up on this show after ... um.. I think ep 4 or 5. The one that finished with Hiro on the train with the sword. The whole thing was just incredibly slow, dull, predictable, and badly written.

I recently had the series fall into my lap, and so I decided to catch up (guited into it by my mum who thinks Hiro is awesome.. and I tent to agree). I just now finished catching up to the aired eps. Episode 10 finished a matter of minutes ago for me.

Have to say the show is still badly written and predictable. In fact it is getting worse on those two fronts. It is almost like you can see the creators scrambling to try and reign in their own out of control ideas, and doing a rather bad job of it.

Having said that, it is definitely not slow or dull anymore. It was a lot of fun and very entertaining! Hiro and Ando are just great. I love the way Hiro is getting so much better with english, even tho he has only been speaking it for a few days. you have to chuckle. I was disappointed that, er, the "girl in the mirror" is still around. I was hoping she was dead and that it was only going to be the kid and his father. No such luck.

Without a doubt the absolute ownage of this show belongs to the Cheerleaders father. He was magnificient in his slimy, perfect smile evilness in the first episode, and he just keeps getting better and better. Pity the other "bad guys" in the show are so weak and generic.

Episode Ten really felt like a major cop out to me. Especially Hiro's story with the Waitress (hot damn was that lady the PANTS or what!? woah momma I take all of that and a side of MOAR thankyou very much!) and the almost desperate "take a breath and regroup" that must have happened in the writing department.

Of course, now I am stuck with a bit of a delemna. As I am finding the show terribly entertaining right now, what do I do? I mean do I go back and watch the rest of it now? Or do I stop watching and tune in every week when it airs on TV here in AU? Decisions, decisions.... *sigh*

"Our data revealed that in a matter of just ten days the PlayStation 3 created a spike in retail spending not previously witnessed at the launch of any other console in Australia," ... resulting in sales of 27,083 PlayStation 3 consoles."

By way of comparison ... the 11 day period after its Australian launch, the Nintendo Wii had sold 41,369 units, and the Xbox 360 36,627.
I am obviously missing something terribly obvious, but could someone tell me how those figures are all that and a can of peaches? The way I see it the PS3 sold 9,544 less than the x360, and 14,286 less than Wii.
in before Zelda is not a RPG icon_razz.gif

Just how many games are there for Wii now anyway? 15? 20? Considering that even on the PS2 here in AU JRPGs are more a niche market than major releases I doubt there will be an influx of them on Wii any time soon.

Pity really, as it is quite possibly my favorite Genre, and a decent selection would go a long way to convincing me I need a Wii. So far there has not ben a single game released on the platform I am even wiimotely interested in. No point buying a console if there are no games on it you want to play after all.
Between the "TV tennis" (pong) console of around.. er.. '76(?) up until last Gen (PS2, NGC, XBOX) the Dreamcast was the only console available on the common market I never owned. Truth is there was noever any games on it I was interested in at the time. By the time I found out about Shenmue the console was well out of production. Can't help but be slightly miffed after watching the "movie" included with Shenmue II on XBOX that I never got to play that one.

I guess a true measure of its fanbase will be seeing just how long fan games will be around for it. Considering the Atari 2600 still has fan made games coming out and it, has a 20+ year lead on the DreamCast, I am not sure it will be able to topple that record icon_smile.gif
RE4 engine beautiful? You mean it would be if the character could step sideways rite? I mean yes the game was awesome. No argument there at all. Kicked ass. Loved it. Played it thru several times. But Leon can flip over lazers, tumble out windows, roundhouse kick bad dudes in the head, and participate in possibly the single greatest knife fight interactive cut scene EVER... but he can't step sideways?

Leon is awesome in RE4, but honestly until he can step sideways he will never be as cool as Sam Fisher. Sam Fisher vs Zombies would be the greatest game ever! of course it would have to be IN SPACE!!1
Crab Battle is awesome!

so that is why he has an eye patch now XD

Honestly. As if this will be PS3 exclusive. riiite. It may take a year or so, but it will be out on x360. Possibly PC as well. I mean both MGS and MGS2 were out on PC, and MGS2 was out on xbox as well with added content.

Still, just means I will have to buy it again. Chances are this is the game that will get me to buy a PS3 regardless of it being an exclusive or not. Well, this or FFXIII. I had to chuckle at him mentioning FFXIII in that article. "Its not all me". The pressure is on! lol
hmm.. Well if I had a Wii I would more than likely get this anyway. I have all the "survivor" games so far, so why stop now?

Very interesting to see the characters involved. I expect there must be some sort of dual story going on during the game? As in Jill and Chris doing something, then cut to Rebecca and Billy doing something elsewhere?

Really glad to see Rebecca and Billy back. RE0 was a fantastic game, and the way those two characters interacted was just superb.

Mind you, I would love to see a return of Bruce McGivern and Fongling. Man those tow really knew how to steam up a screen! icon_smile.gif
I already have this game twice (GCN + PS2) so they will have to add in something seriously cool to get me to buy it for a third time. A different way of playing the same game is pointless to me.

We already know that the Graphical potential of the Wii is better than the two versions aleady available, but better graphics will not cut it here. Even if this version has the real time cut scenes plus all the included extras that the PS2 version has, it will not be enough to get me to buy it a third time. The game plays perfectly on the two versions already available. It will need More gameplay, areas, weapons, story, outfits, items.. that sort of thing.

The addition of SEPARATE WAYS to the PS2 version made it a vastly superior game play experience than the NGC version despite the reduced graphics (which are still among the best on the PS2) and the rather disappointing pre-rendered cut scenes (Instant Outfit and item changes FTL). That is what I am looking for here. Some sort of huge addition, not just a few tack on gimmicks.
Moviehole gave it 1 out of 5 stars.

Personally I can't even watch the trailer without lol, so I doubt this will entice me to the theatres. I might get it when its a free weekly at the video store for a Guys booze and movies night, but outside that... nah.

I think cut scenes are great for the reason that they show our character(s) doing things outside of what is achievable during game play.
See that part I have in bold there there in the quote? That is possibly the leading reason why I do NOT like cut scenes.

crestfallen wrote
I also really like HL2's method. It really puts you in Gordan's shoes. I have never felt so much like I was the character as when I was using the mouse to look around during the "cut scenes".
That concept of actually being able to move around during the "cut scenes" was really damn awesome. Of course, this is possible outside the FPS genre and really should be utilized more often.

Mind you, what is even better is having storytelling occurring while you actually play the game! You know.. just a thought. Anyone who has played Beyond Good and Evil or Primal will know that I mean. Ghost Hunter (spiritual sequel to Primal) also did this. One of the greatest examples of this I can think of is Second Sight. Man that game had some of the most immersive storytelling and branching storyline methodology I have ever seen in a game.. or should I say in-game. All four of these games had an excellent balance of cut scenes and in-game storytelling. Unquestionably my favorite practice of storytelling when it comes to games.

I am divided on multiple path games however. Sure if the game is entertaining then I am happy to replay to unlock the different story branches, different endings etc (SOS the Final Escape comes to mind). However, I am still a HUGE fan of the linear game. The first three Splinter Cell games are right at the top of my favorite games list, and what I use as a measuring stick to compare similar (and oft times not so similar) games. Everything in those games was done so brilliantly. DOUBLE AGENT is one of the major reasons I will get a x360. I am seriously looking forward to seeing just how IMO the best game series of the last gen does with branching story.
Crisis Core
MGS Portable Ops.

I will eventually end up buying a PSP just to play these two games. All The other "must get" titles have been ported to PS2. That included Tokobot, Retro my pal. Of course once I HAVE a PSP for those two games, there are several other games I will buy as well, but none of them are worth actually buying the PSP for.

I am told that racing games are great on this thing. totally not my genre but may work for you. Also would like to reiterate A.S and Mof there. Usermade etc etc. A lot of that stuff looks .. awesome. icon_biggrin.gif
Re: Shadowrun Preview (6 years ago)
I was so stoked when I heard about the shadowrun game. takes me back to my pimple faced lunchtime geekfests back in.. er.. the 80's (I think...) when we all used to play this in *cough* the study room. Well, technically I did not play. I just supplied comic narration and gave the players (and GM on ocasion) advice. All while teaching myself how to juggle. TRUE STORY.

Still can't believe they took an awesome game like this and turned it into a FPS :cries:
YES!!!

Sounds like it is going to go in the direction I really hope is goes. Not a third game in the series (the series is FINISHED! FINISHED I SAY!) bat rather a new series that is some sort of spin off.

I will be surprised if work starts on it any time soon however. I mean isnt Nomura heading up the team making the FFVII PSP game and FFXIII Versus? I would think those should be finished before he can start focusing on anything else.
ok.. did it actually take 51 pages for someone to actually think of putting links like that? Or am I just not paying attention? I would not be surprised in the least if it was the latter.

At any rate, nice move Theory. Totally going to [s]steal[/s] follow that lead when I post in here from now on.
Well at this stage I chose to believe you because I want so much for it to be true!

Disney characters + new original characters + completely new story and location + assorted cues to original KH basics (Keyblades, heartless, RT-RPG etc) = HeDanny having happy in his pants icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif
