Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
High res pack looks great to me but I didn't bother with any of the community texture mods. Performance impact appears to be zero. The game runs like butter now. Which is awesome considering my laptop is apparently below spec according to Nvidia's website.
I'm maxed out except for shadows at 1600x900 and my framerate is north of 40fps. Not world beating but I'm quite chuffed.

Re: Which was the last game you finished? (1 year ago)
Arkham City: As DC geek it was brilliant. It hindsight I liked the first game a little more but I can't decide whether or not that is due to the shock of it being so good in the first place!
I have very little in the way of criticism for AC, the combat is brilliant, the atmosphere is fantastic and it excells at providing a superb amalgamation of Nolan's realism and the comic book's hyper reality.
Hearing Nolan North as a henchman was jarring but his version of the Penguin was inspired.

Skyrim: I'm finally settling in for a playthrough as the latest update has it running like butter on my laptop. The performance boost I'm seeing is quite huge, I'm able to max it out minus shadows and its running great. I'm currently playing as a Redguard and am basically just taking my time picking quests when and if I please. I'm the kind of player that just enjoys existing in the world and taking in the sights. I never fast travel.
NBA 2K12: 71 hours according to Steam and I have to say this year's edition is one of the most frustrating sports games I've ever played. I'm 6-10 in my Bulls association so I'm basically sinking the franchise in contrast to what is happening in real life. The CPU gets some very obvious advantages to increase difficulty and it can make the game feel quite unfair and more punishing than it needs to be. Still, I can't stop playing and hoping that I can improve. When you settle in and find the flow of your offense it can be magical.

I've got a ton of greys, it kicked in when I was about 21. Full bush atop my head though.
Re: Top 10 Games of the Generation So Far? (1 year ago)
Part of the fun is planning your attacks and making sure you exit out a different path to that which you came in. If you do that then you will never experience the respawning. Also embracing the spirit of being in the wilderness and avoiding the roads and checkpoints helps a lot as well.
Its still an absolute favorite of mine. Two playthroughs on the 360 and I'm thinking of running through it again on PC now that I have a capable laptop.

Is Clear Sky worth getting?
Also as somebody fairly new to PC gaming I can quite rightly say that these pack deals are moderately insane. Next year I have half a mind to just buy a couple of packs in December and that would quite easily last me another 12 months.
Re: "Twist Control": New Dashboard Update 2011. (1 year ago)
Since the dashboard update my 360 no longer recognizes my wireless adaptor. I'm guessing its because it's a 3rd party model from eBay. It worked great until now. Bastards.
Re: Assassin's Creed Revelations (1 year ago)
I loved the atmosphere/vibe of being deeper into the past with the first game so I would love to go even further back to Ancient Greece or Rome.

Question for people who've finished this.
Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to play AA before this? I know its a direct sequel but I don't have a problem with reading up on the storyline from the first game.
I've just got a huge backlog and limited time to go through it, so just looking for opinions on this.

It took me 48 hours to download from Green Man Gaming but it's running well. Sitting on 40 to 50 fps on very high at 1600x900 on my laptop. No physx though. Still, looks quite a bit better than the 360 version to my eyes.

New patch came in on Steam today, and adds nothing but DRM and removes the Large Address Aware patch in that prevented a lot of people from getting the Crash to Desktop issue. Also, patching the exe now will not work; it errors up. Rofl. All over GAF atm, lots of people pissed off.
I've fixed it by disallowing the game from not updating on steam and using my backup exe from the previous version, but holy **** Bethesda, what a dumb move.
In other news though, I've managed to make my game look ridiculously nice and run fairly well too. It's not friendly to SLI/CFX setups and has poor scaling.

Re: What made you smile today? (1 year ago)
I'm stoked to finally have Skyrim running on my laptop without constant crashes and frame rate fluctuations. Thank you 'large address awareness' patch! I knew I had 8 gig of ram for a reason.

I'm not exactly thrilled that I've bought LA Noire for my laptop and it won't run because Nvidia Optimus is not currently supported.
Also I've got Skyrim running great at a mixture of Medium/High but it keeps dumping me back to the desktop every hour or so.
I've just recently returned to PC gaming and am finding it a little frustrating so far. It never seems to be as simple as installing then playing.

Its a brand new Dell Xps 17 that I've had for a month or so. The card is only a GT555m but it runs pretty much everything as long as I'm willing to compromise.
Skyrim on Medium/High sits in the high 40's in terms of frame rate with rare drops into the low 30's when going into some shops. The general store in Riverwood dumps the frame rate down every single time!
It sounds like this is a fairly common problem so I guess I'll wait for an official fix. I know Denny had figured out a work around but I'm not a PC ninja like him.

Yeah I can play for a few hours and not crash and then get 3 in 20 minutes.
I'm guessing its a driver issue? Wait for a patch I suppose.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. (1 year ago)
I desperately want to sink some time into this but the constant crashes back to the desktop are driving me nuts. Its averaging out to a couple per hour.
Anybody else on PC having this issue?

I've bought it through Greenmangaming as well. Downloading now whilst I'm at work. Too bad I've got a wedding tonight and won't be able to play until Saturday...
I feel really bad for you guys who have been screwed. If the Australian Steam store offered even mildly competitive prices things would be so much easier.

Re: What really ticks you off? (1 year ago)
I don't get it. Why double the price over here when we have been at or around parity with the US dollar for quite a while? Is it just straight up price goughing?
I'll happily stick with my PS3 copy for now.

Re: What really ticks you off? (1 year ago)
LA Noire doubling in price on Steam. No way I'm buying it on PC unless a sale crops up at a later date.
Re: What game are you playing? (1 year ago)
NBA 2K12 but I'm about to throw in the towel. Even on lower difficulties it's insanely frustrating, the CPU is just waaaayyy too good for me this year.
Assassins Creed II on PC. I'm hoping to finish this and Brotherhood before Revelations drops. I just love these games, they are very easy but a joy to play and explore in.

Metro 2033 on Steam for $5 US. Hopefully my laptop can run it above low settings.
