Re: What are you watching? (TV Discussion) (2 years ago)
Just finished watching the second season of Breaking Bad. Amazing show. The acting, the storylines, the humour, the way it is shot...all superb. BUT, the last episode was a disappointment. I understand what they were trying to convey with what happened, but the idea to present that point was just stupid. All that building up, the ominous scenes... Maybe I hyped myself up too much.
Re: Hope you guys are planning on getting LIMBO (2 years ago)
I have been running around the house screaming like a little girl all week, upsetting the dogs & getting weird looks from my niece, because I've been waiting for this game for what seems like years.
Re: Medal of Honor: Limited Edition Announced (2 years ago)
The limited edition doesn't cost extra. It's the same price as the normal edition. It's just an incentive to buy the game early, presumably to combat used game purchases, but also to reward those those support game companies by buying games on release. Also, the PS3 version comes with the updated Frontline game.
This method is FAR better than those bullshit exclusive pre-order bonuses that EB Games and other retailers do. This means that I can buy the game from any retailer and get the content (assuming the limited edition isn't exclusive).
Yeah, the actual bonuses are pretty crappy, but it's like the Dragon Age extras.

Seems to be a common thing. I've done both computer and hospitality courses at TAFE and had the same problem for both. There was around 14 people in my cooking class and by the end there was four of us. One time this guy showed up for a lesson who hadn't been to class for two months. The mind boggles...
Re: Your biggest wow game/moment this gen (2 years ago)
Nuclear bomb being set off in Modern Warfare.
Snake walking/crawling through the Microwave chamber thingy in MGS4
Walking around Venice / The Carnivale scene in Assassin's Creed II.
The Citadel attack in Mass Effect.
And more I'll think of later.

Re: What are you watching? (TV Discussion) (2 years ago)
I'm watching the fourth season of Weeds.
I've watched nine episodes and will finish the remaining ones later tonight. Whilst I am enjoying the season (particularly the last four or five episodes), I don't think it's as good as the previous season. It seems to be following a trend. Great season, good season, great season, good season (so far).

your account information is linked to both, but as i said, the stock prices are sometimes different.
case in point - this Harry Potter boxset.
search for "Harry Potter Set" (i didn't use quotations in my search) on both, and on .com, it comes back with a ~$53 dollar, 50% off set, but on .co.uk it returns the 25% off, ~$80 set. same set - same ISBN and all that, but different store front, different price.
(99% of the time, the difference in negligible, but i suppose the super keen could save a few more dollars by splitting their orders over both sites)
Not that it matters though because the majority of the books I order are at least half the price that they cost here.
And to avoid this post being off topic, I ordered this from Ezy DVD for $10 (w/ free shipping because it's a pre-order [July 28])

Re: Red Dead Redemption DLC overload announced (2 years ago)
I don't think there's anything wrong with Zombies per-se (this is actually a lie. I think of all the mythical creatures, they're the worst. A deformed human that moans and groans and moves slowly [generalisation!!!!!]. Bleh. At least Vampires glitter in the sun), but they have to be implemented properly and not just in the game for the sheer sake of it which is what has happened here. As odd as it is saying this, the implementation of Zombies needs to make sense for it to be effective.
Re: Dragon Age 2 announced (2 years ago)
Hopefully it's a bit more polished than the first game. (gameplay was great, but there was a few little technical errors and the graphics weren't the greatest)
I should re-buy the first game actually. I traded it in in desperate for something, but have since had the desire to finish it (put about fifteen or so hours in so 1% done

Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
All from JB, all part of that buy two get one free promotion. (NCIS season 1 was the other DVD, but Dad bought it)
Six Feet Under were all $25, The Wire was $20 and the other two were $30.
Also bought two CDs for my Niece: The Resistance by Muse and This War is Ours by Escape the Fate.
Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
I didn't really utilise my 10% off voucher well (saved a paltry $2.60), but I really need to stop contributing to my 'to read' pile of books that could seemingly touch the ceiling if stacked on top of each other. I did, however, get two books I've been meaning to buy for a while now.
Total cost was just short of $24.

Re: Book Depository turns 6! 10% off vouchers! (2 years ago)
Oh, poosticks. Just when I wanted to impulse buy half a dozen books on my wishlist, the site goes down for maintenance. Now I have to contemplate whether buying them is such a good idea and that never ends well.
Also, I'm interested to see if this voucher works for people who already use the site.

Re: Book Depository turns 6! 10% off vouchers! (2 years ago)
How long do the vouchers last for? I don't really need many new books at the moment and 10% of one or two books that are already so low is kind of pointless.
Re: What made you smile today? (2 years ago)
You haven't lived life if you haven't discovered turbulence and the sheer terror of flying through the fucking air trapped in a big metal tube that could fall apart at any single moment. That terrifying moment where you think this is it. I meet God, the Devil, or nothing. Your eyes skitter about trying to find the fattest gentleman so that can you use his carcass to float, should you survive a plunge into the ocean, to an island occupied by a polar bear and some crazy-arse smoke.
Enjoy your flight!
Oh and what made me smile was Marion being eliminated on MasterChef. I liked the girl, but it was plain to see she was leagues ahead of all the other contestants. At least with her getting the boot, the competition is far more open now.

What I've liked about the series has been that each game, while similar, is distinctly different from the last. Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, while still Mario platformers, are quite different from each other. The same goes for Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy. I think where things have gone wrong is that with Galaxy 2, we have the first direct sequel in the series. The setting is the same, the mechanics are largely the same, and a fair few things have been recycled.
I think the difference between the two previous 3D Mario titles and Galaxy is that you never really felt like they could expand on the first two, where as with Galaxy you did. Err, rather I did I should say. I didn't really feel like they had fully explored the whole gravity game play idea. It's one of the reasons why I think it, of nearly all the Mario games, was most deserving of a sequel.
As for money grabbing: If we are to look at the Mario series purely from a money grabbing point of view, it's hard to argue in Nintendo's favour. It's almost as if Sunshine is the only Mario game that hasn't seen a re-release, port, or revamp etc. yet.
But Galaxy 2, at least for me, doesn't feel any more money grabbing than LBP on the PSP.
As for ManeKast's opinion, I think it comes down to the complexity of the games we grew up with. Those who are used to games with lots to see and do are less inclined to enjoy something like Mario which is, game play wise, a pretty simple game. Its design is almost archaic. I think this is why we are seeing such great sales of the series - NSMBWii in particular - because the series suits the whole 'anyone can play' idea that Nintendo is peddling and a game like Mario is perfectly suited to older people (like Mums and Dads) who don't have time for complex games, don't understand them etc.

Worth noting is the length the writer goes to make this story seem credible. Queensland University of Technology music expert? Are you kidding me? That guy should have simply laughed in her face. I don't know why I expect better from SMH though.

I haven't actually got Wii Motion Plus yet, but I was wondering if it actually helps with controlling Fluzzard or the marble/ball levels? Sometimes they seemed to have a mind of their own or were responsive enough. I'm not sure if Motion Plus would help in this instance.

I collected the first green star, and I'm aware that some of you may look down upon me for not collecting them all! icon_wink.gif ... but I was wondering whether there was any incentive to collect them all or is it merely for completionists sakes that they're included? I'm aware that there's not going to be a deep and meaningful cutscene, but I was just wanting to know if anyone knew the answer to this.
Re: What really ticks you off? (2 years ago)
Nearly all of QLD points came due to a very silly error by N.S.W. Terrible, simply terrible. Sure they played better than the previous two games, but they simply lacked the effort and control that QLD have demonstrated these past five years.
As great as it is to watch such a dominate, skilful side like QLD, Origin is becoming a bit boring.

The game just feels like a sequel to the first one in every way, I feel like I'm playing the same game all over again. The game even starts in almost exactly the same way. I don't know, watching Mario (and Yoshi) running and jumping around for hours just doesn't seem to appeal to me. The first one was fun because it was fresh and original, this just feels like a lame expansion pack. Mario Galaxy did not need a sequel imo, it just cheapens the experience for me. I practically find LittleBigPlanet more interesting as far as platformers go.
Galaxy implemented a 'not entirely new' concept of planet hopping into a game on the grandest scale, and it was like you said fresh. It is imo why Galaxy, more than any other Mario game, needed a sequel. Why on earth would you not want more of the same? The original game was amazing, this game is the original and more. It's exactly what sequels are: original concept in tact, minor tweaks and new additions alongside it. Game ideas wouldn't expand if we just abandoned great ideas after one game.
Re: Splinter Cell Conviction Review (2 years ago)
Exactly. Why is there a sudden need for games to have bits and pieces of different genres? I know from a publishing point of view it sounds great (get as many people possible interested in the game), but it makes for all these half-arsed game mechanics (see: vehicles in FPS) and these odd bitzer games that are no more fun to play than a straight genre game. Splinter Cell is a stealth title. Always has been, always should be. They shouldn't change it just to please the people who aren't interested in stealth titles because you piss off the people who are.

This is monumentally stupid on Blizzard's behalf because it opens up a whole new level of concerns - concerns far more threatening than simple trolls and spammers.

Re: New Call of Duty: Black Ops images arrive (2 years ago)
Setting is the most appealing aspect of the game for me, but I did enjoy World at War (the single player was more enjoyable than Modern Warfare 2 on reflection) so I personally don't get the hatred of Treyarch.

Song: Window
Album: Church With No Magic
Thanks again Warp! for giving me more music to enjoy! This puts me in mind of Liars meets Battles... perhaps. Very cool. Time to hit up grooveshark and check their back catalog I think!
