Absolute shambles. PALGN is a website without staff or moderators, where Falcondude, Discosis and Roland are ranking members, and the hardworking are dishonoured without explanation.
This marks my final post on PALGN. It's been a ride folks.

Gtpod's Amazing Super Farewell Spectacular! (1 year ago)
Hey everyone. As one of the very few remaining old-old-old-timers, I just wanted to throw my own goodbye speech out there. Chances are a lot of you don't really know me, as I've not been actively posting much the past few years, though I've been visiting every single day. So let's just say I've been here, in some form or another, since day dot, and have been through every single era this website's experienced. From the fresh-faced days of sonicwired, zemaj and subelement, to the glorious era of main-page content, the tyranny and fuckuppery of Luke and other incompetent rulers, the phoenix-like redemption of Jeremy and his team of amazing writers, and of course our current apocalypse, spearheaded by the one almighty cunt to rule them all, our dear friend Roland.
I was 11 years old when I signed up; those familiar with forums will realise that's 2 years below COPPA, and being the young fool that I was, I decided to inform the system that I was in fact underage. So I sent an email to the head admin of the time, zemaj (you'll probably better know him as James Gay), and after an MSN Messenger conversation with my mother (that really happened), I was allowed in. Back then I was using a different account, I forget the name, but I was astounded by the world of message boards; of particular interest was the ability to troll them, and so my first year or so here was spent basically pissing people off.
I'm not gonna chronicle the whole history of the boards, there's plenty of topics around explaining Nazi Cumrag, Padfoot, PAL Girls Network, etc., please search them out while you can. This was all 10 years ago now, and honestly, it's an absolute shame to see what's become of the place. That one person could so incompetently-- nay, outright maliciously destroy a flourishing community is frankly sickening. I can only imagine this is an intentional move by someone with a grudge, because the only other option is an incomprehensible level of the purest, most unrefined grade-A stupidity that'll ever be discovered on planet Earth. I have nothing but contempt for all the current ranking members of this website, and want absolutely nothing to do with any future plans they may have for PALGN.
I honestly want to thank you, the regulars as much as the ex-staff as much as the newbies, from the bottom of my heart. It's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you these past 10 years, sharing ideas, discussing issues, laughing, crying, debating and simply conversing. I won't mention names, for fear of forgetting some great people, but you know who you are. As long as I live, I will never forget PALGN; the real PALGN, before all this nonsense, with its magnificently professional articles and thriving reader community.
As a moderator, as a veteran, as a visitor and as a friend, thank you all, and I'll definitely be seeing you in the promised land.
Oh, P.S., throwback to a very old joke, but if there's any old-timers around still waiting for a picture of me... I guess it's now or never.

Re: Your newest purchase (1 year ago)
Wii - ¥12500 (with controllers and games)
Final Fantasy XIII-2 Limited Edition PS3 - ¥33000
I am going to love this PS3 forever and ever and ever and ever and ever...
PS3
Sonic Generations
Yakuza Dead Souls
Battlefield 3
Shadows of the Damned
Skyrim
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy XIII-2 (different cover; came with console)
Saints Row The Third
Batman: Arkham City
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
NHL 12
Mix of Japanese games and American/Chinese imports. Forget the prices for most of them, s'been a while since I posted an update of recently purchased games. Currently rocking Sonic, Battlefield and Yakuza.
Wii
428 〜封鎖された渋谷で〜
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Grand Slam Tennis
Wii Play
Wii Sports Resort
Found the Wii cheap on craigslist, with most of those games included as well as two controllers, so I just had to get it. Looking forward to sinking some time into Zelda, but for now I'm mostly playing NSMB with the lady.
Re: Your newest purchase (1 year ago)
Went on a little spree. Girlfriend confesses to me the other night that she's actually a big anime fan, so I in turn confessed about my dark side (gaming). Opened the flood gates somewhat.
Manga:
One Piece Vol. 1-5 (¥1500)
Nichijou Vol. 1 (¥540)
Yotsubato! Vol. 1 (¥600)
Azumanga Daioh Special Rewrites 1-3 (¥950)
I've had a vague interest in the top two for a while now, thought I'd explore it. The latter two though I've loved forever.
Game:
Star Wars: The Old Republic (¥7000)
Way more than I wanted to pay, but it seems the only way to get a copy in this country is through overpriced imports.
Books:
Beginners' Korean (¥1400)
Beginners' Korean (¥1600)
Korean girlfriends will make you learn their language, through another foreign language.

I gots a question for people in the know. I can't find anything on the internets specific enough to my situation, but I need know if this game'll run on my 2011 MacBook Pro with Windows 7.
2 GHz Intel Core i7
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB
Killing me waiting to play.

Apple makes my favourite gadgets, Pixar makes my favourite films. RIP Jobs, thanks for all the awesome.

I'm waiting for them to announce this is all a big joke.
The 3DS I mean.

SA reviews saying it's laggy as fuck... annoying. Already have the other two on Steam, PS2 and Xbox, not buying them a 4th time.
Re: PALGN really slow? (1 year ago)
Luke was the worst thing to happen to this website since Mike, I'm sure all the old-timers can back me up on that. LONG LIVE JEREMY!
Site doesn't seem so bad right now though. It was backup night last night to be fair.

A 360 controller for PS3? Yes please. And it's Batarang-shaped to boot.
Re: Socialising: Online vs AFK (1 year ago)
This is quite an astounding topic. I mean there's no doubt you can make some great friends online, who you can become close with and talk to daily, but it's absolutely incomparable to having people who actually love you IRL. You open the door to a room full of close friends and see their faces light up at your mere presence, you feel the energy of other people just excited to see you... nothing can ever substitute that.
Re: How to Plan a Holiday to Japan - Need Advice (1 year ago)
This introductory pack I have here for Toyo University has some costs laid out, though it's mostly long-term stuff. It says food is ¥30,000 - ¥45,000 for a month, though that's probably under the assumption we'll be in supermarkets rather than restaurants, so probably the same price for 3 weeks of holiday? But then it still depends, obviously. I mean if you stuck to Matsuya/Sukiya and convini onigiri and stuff for lunches, and Ueno/Asakusa-area restaurants and izakaya for example, it's obviously gonna be cheaper than getting premium bento and eating out in Ginza every night.
Other than that, travel around Tokyo is one thing to watch. Fairly easy to burn through ¥1000 a day on a Suica without realising, so that's another ¥21,000 to factor in. Also, sounds crazy, but vending machines will bleed you dry too. We had a lecture about this kind of thing a while back, and apparently it's the biggest money-leech for foreigners in Japan. You think it's only ¥150 a pop, but you're getting several per person per day and suddenly wondering where all that cash you drew out has gone.
Lastly I can recommend Sakura Hotel and Sakura Hostel, they're great places. Particularly Sakura Hostel in Asakusa. I stayed there a few years ago, and will be again in a few weeks from now, I can't get enough of the place. The staff are so friendly, they put on all kinds of events and stuff, the building's well placed in central Tokyo, etc.etc. Also if you're looking at pricing in general, the Sakura businesses are low-end cost-wise I believe, might work as a barometer for other options.
EDIT: Oh snap, also, book your flights absolutely ASAP. You won't believe how much the price rockets as the travel date comes closer. First time I went, I booked about 8 months early and got a return flight in September for £600. This year, it was only 4 months early and £850 for the same dates.

Re: What made you smile today? (1 year ago)

Re: Google+ (1 year ago)
And Google+ seems to have about 100.
Re: Google+ (1 year ago)
Yeah I've now had two invites to two accounts and neither work. I'll shout when either of them gets through.
EDIT (repost): They're accepting right now from invited Google accounts, gogogo.
EDIT 2: Looks closed again, apparently there was a window of about an hour for already-invited accounts to sign up.

Re: Google+ (1 year ago)
Certainly did yeah. I'm getting notifications of shared posts in the guy's circle but... won't let me sign up yet. Dammit Google open the sign-ups again.
Re: Google+ (1 year ago)
Yeah I've had an invite sent but can't use it yet. Very annoying, I've been going out of my mind wanting to try this. Google's my Apple for this kinda thing.
Re: Readers Questions for PALGN Staff (1 year ago)
I think what it is is, as the forum page loads, the ad loads faster behind it, and is clickable over the entire browser page until some of the phpbb code kicks in. Accidental clicks on that take you (and me, several times a day) to the ad.
Re: Steam Download Speeds (1 year ago)
I tend to get around 3mb/s on default servers in Cardiff and Tokyo. Doesn't seem like Steam's particularly limited itself.

This one doesn't seem as good, but might well be worth it for that book, if it's only £5 more.

Re: Terraria (1 year ago)
Could someone sort of basically explain how this game works? I really wanna get into it but all I seem to do for hours is dig... dig some more... then get killed by a worm or bat or four eyes that come out of nowhere or some jellies that gang up on me. Am I missing something?
Re: What made you smile today? (1 year ago)
9 years... jeez. Long live PALGN.
Re: Games you wish where on iphone/android (1 year ago)

Re: Games you wish where on iphone/android (1 year ago)
^ Very yes. I will compound that with wishing Phoenix Wright was on Android.
