Re: Street Fighter IV - console release info, etc (3 years ago)
10 new chars would be awesome, that's a decent addition for the new game. I'm hoping for some more 3s people.
On Turtling: it's a good way to play some characters. The best Dhalsims out there stay far away, otherwise you die very fast. It's just part of the game to learn how to deal with it.

Re: Street Fighter IV - console release info, etc (3 years ago)
Leon has good advice, almost every character has a "escape" move that works against crossups, something that moves you away or hits above and behind you. Sometimes you'll need to use the EX version to get enough speed or invincibility to guarantee your escape.
Re: Rarest Game you own (3 years ago)
if they printed tens of thousands of copies of a game, it's probably not rare (unless they buried most of them in the desert
)
having said that, I don't have many rarities, A bunch of NeoGeo Pocket Colour games, an Australian copy of Vib-Ribbon (with poster), and that's about it!

Can't wait for this one! I should start compiling a list of words to try when it comes out
Oh, and one of the sprite artists working on it is Paul Robertson, artist of the marvellous Pirate Baby Battle Cabana 2006 AND australian, so my list will start with: Drop Bear, Bunyip, Rainbow Serpent, Boonie, rudd...

Re: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (3 years ago)
Excellent news! The Golden suns were the best portable RPG on GBA, possibly ever... The new one looks just fine in the trailer, and camelot are at the helm so it can't lose! (probably?)
Re: Assassin's Creed II (3 years ago)
Love the setting, that was an instant sell for me! It looks gorgeous too, so I hope they fixed all the bunk from the first game so it's playable.

Re: Who won E3? (3 years ago)
Sony did way better this year, which is a relief, but they came out worse being after MS, which dulled the effect of their motion control (good, but less flashy than the MS one) and Metal Gear PSP, which was more boring than Rising. Trico was leaked, PSP Go is pricey and has a smaller screen, and no ps3 price drop or slimness
Nintendo had the best bombshells: Golden Sun DS and Team Ninjatroid, no rumours or leaks about those! Nothing much else though, Mario games will be fun but ultimately rehash Galaxy and NSMB.
Microsoft had the most solid lineup though, and they had trendy motion control and social networking things too.
Most competitive E3 for years!

Re: WHOAH?!!/1 Monkey Island Remakes + EPISODES! (3 years ago)
Awesome news! I can't believe they got the original MI3 voices to do the remake, that's great. You can also switch back to the original art if you don't like the new sprites (like R-Type) Instant Buy for me.
The Telltale one though... The art style is changed a lot, and the voices are different. That's a bad start, I can only hope that they can make it funny, which would make up for it all. I'll probably buy it anyway, the episodic thing means I don't have to commit at least
For MI fans, Ron Gilbert posted a little postmortem of MI1 he wrote after replaying it recently. Interesting!

Re: Crackdown 2 (3 years ago)
Excellent! I bought a 360 basically for Crackdown, so I'm stoked for this. I too wish they showed more, but there was a hint of monstrous enemies? The normal humans in crackdown 1 got a bit boring to fight near the end.
Re: SF 4 Championship mode broke the game. (4 years ago)
Works fine for me, I played a bunch of tournaments today, and even won one! Now I can show off my crappy skillz to the world
I got a lot of people ditching on the matchup screen though, probably because everyone was 0-1 bars. Sadly the disconnect % doesn't count this as a drop, oh well.

Re: Fighting Game Arcade Sticks and Controllers (4 years ago)
The new Fight Sticks look good, but I can't justify $200+ for just one stick! I thought I paid too much for my SC4 Hori EX2, and that was under $100...
I got some from Dick Smith for a project before, worked fine with a normal hair dryer.

Does anyone know where to buy heat activated shrink tubing? people on SRK have been using this on their JLF actuators as it gives a perfect uniform fit around the actuator, and will last a long time. I want to give this a try next time, because even the electrical tape isn't perfect as it can become loose after a while.
Re: R.I.P 1UP.com/EGM (4 years ago)
This is terrible news, I loved thei 1up podcasts, and their features were always very well done. I don't know why UGO bothered to buy 1up if they were going to fire 90% of the staff? Not only that, but they cancel both the podcasts and the 1up show which were the things that made 1up really stand out.
I can only hope that they go to better places, a bunch of staff have already left in the last year to work making games, so it shouldn't be hard for the big names to move on.

Re: Meteos Wars for XBLA this Wednesday (4 years ago)
My wife bought this last night. It's very similar to the DS game, with 3d backgrounds and Meat hats for your little avatar guy.
The online seems to have horrible lag though, pretty dodgy implementation it seems.

Re: Anime: Dub or Sub? (4 years ago)
It's been a while since I watched any anime, but overwhelmingly the dubs I heard were horrible. The actors couldn't act, they sounded like they pulled in the secretary and her family for the voices... pretty bad. The only exceptions I found were movies where they had a budget to hire decent actors.
There's a bias though towards whatever you hear first. You associate the first voice you hear with the character, so anyone else seems wrong.
It's also harder to tell if someone's acting badly in a different language.

Re: GH:WT damaged instruments.. (4 years ago)
I haven't bought it yet, but 2 friends who have, have bad kits. One has a dead red pad, the other has sensitivity problems. Makes me hesitate to buy the kit, all that money!
The wife bought Rock Band home instead, I didn't realise you could use a regular headset for vocals!

Re: Fable 2 (4 years ago)
I finished this last week, I thought the ending was a little short, they were going for emotional impact more than a big long battle or something. There some interesting choices you can make in there, or do what I did at one point and just wait instead of acting...
After the main story finishes there's no "real ending" but there are some fun quests you can do by buying the more expensive places around. I got my fourth spouse in one of them, she's a little pale but very good lookin'

Smoke: Never
Drugs: Never
Drink: With food usually, and one or two at shows.
The above saves me a lot of money, and having lots of nerd friends means I have practically no peer pressure to start. Not that peer pressure is an excuse! It is for The Weak only

Re: World of Goo! (4 years ago)
Preordered, loved, finished. The atmosphere of the whole thing was surprising, and surprisingly good! Thumbs up definitely, though I can understand pricing issues, it was more expensive than I was expecting. What I said about Braid applies here though, these guys made a great game, and I think it was worth it.
Re: Which Chain Do you do most your buying from (4 years ago)
I put JB for exchange rate reasons, it used to be videogamesplus for most things. Everywhere has bad or indifferent customer service where I live, despite there being 9 places to buy games in the one shopping centre. JB has the best prices, same range, and has shorter queues, so they win.
This is very location-dependant however, in Hornsby JB has way less games and the EB staff were nice.

Re: World of Goo (4 years ago)
Just to thread-jack this back on topic, I bought World of Goo for PC direct from 2dboy.com, and finished it last week! It's an excellent game, does some impressive things with the whole "stick bits of goo into a tower" concept. They even worked in a little story there.
Anyway, if anyone doesn't have it on the wii yet remember it's out for PC too(and soon mac and linux)

Re: Can you upgrade iMacs? (4 years ago)
The buttonless trackpad actually has the physical button still, it's just underneath the touch surface now. Ars technical got handson time and said there's still a real click.
Firewire is good for video editing, but for file transfers I've found it to be about the same as USB2. Also, apart from video firewire is pretty dead, you can get enclosures with it but there's not much point.

Halflife 1 vs Halflife 2: what's your favourite? (4 years ago)
Rock Paper Shotgun has a nice opinion piece on whether HL1 was the better of the 2 Halflife's (not including the subsequent episode stuff) I definitely played HL1 more, to me it was hugely different to the other FPS games out there. RPS mentions the tentacle beast as a great boss, and I liked the spy parts and the human SWAT guys too.
HL2 had some good stuff, mainly the striders, the buggy, and the final section. I think the physics puzzles are laughably artificial nowadays, and the boat section doesn't hold up well either.
What does PALGN Think?

Re: Can you upgrade iMacs? (4 years ago)
Nope, nothing but the RAM (and the Hard drive if you're keen) is upgradable in an iMac.
Re: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the way to PS3, 360? (4 years ago)

Re: How many consoles and games does everyone own?? (4 years ago)
I'm surprised there even are 99 360 games! You must have at least a dozen duds in that collection, Chimp.
I'm both happy and sad that someone has more ps2 games than me too:
GC: 20
Wii: 14
Xbox1: 11
Xbox 360: 30 (+about 25 XBLA games)
DS: 35
PS2: 129
I'm waiting for AndyPuppy, he has to have the biggest collection here, but he cheats anyway so it doesn't count!
