I think Abbot comes off as a bit of an extremist because of his religious viewpoints, but I also think it's a bit of a stretch for people to assume it'll actually have a noticable impact of party policy.
And if you need an example of what happens when a policy-free opposition gets elected, just look at the pompous git who runs Victoria now.

Definitely, but saying an individual can't be a politician because they happen to be a part of a religion is just daft.

That's the thing. most of the guys that my Dad works with are died-in-the-wool Liberal voters who hate Gillard and/or Rudd, but who actually hate Abbott even more, and won't vote Liberal as long as he's there.
Not the best sample, I know, but it does show how much traditional liberals find Abbott's religious leanings uncomfortable.

The whole leadership challenge idea was made up by Laurie Oakes and Michelle Grattan.
The media (even the ABC) are baying for blood. They were pissed when Gillard ousted Rudd because it happened without their knowledge, and now they're trying to direct a narrative where they do have the inside track on a leadership battle, based on vague "rumours" (or just a slow news day, I guess) from a while ago.
Basically, the media wants to play kingmaker, and Rudd's letting them. The whole situation is horrible.

Laurie Oakes won't be happy until they elect him as Prime Minister.

Hopefully, the media will shut up now they've got their blood.

Nope. State ownership and planned economies all the way. No one will be rich, and no one will be poor.
It will be a perfect, utopian future for the human race.

The correct answer is, as always, Communism.
Re: Funny Links (1 year ago)
Tracking tends to be done for aesthetic reasons. You see it a lot in logotypes and whatnot. The Facebook logotype, for example, appears to be a tightly tracked version of Klavika Bold.
You can actually see some subtle kerning in action in the PALGN logo. Have a look at the P and the A. On the other hand, the long base on the L pushes the G too far away, and creates a slight visual disconnect that could be fixed by tracking them tighter.

I um... linked that a while ago during the SOPA/PIPA thread.
Great read, though.

Re: Hey Everyone! (1 year ago)
I would, but apparently my 360 is now downloading the Mother of All Updates or something. Seriously, I wanted to play Rockband like half an hour ago.
Can. Not. Wait.

I'm one of those players who's good enough to beat the average button-masher, but anyone with a modicum of skill will quickly figure out how to counter my "spam qcf+k/p as fast as possible" strategy.

Dr Pepper is nuclear when it comes to being fizzed up for some reason. Seriously, we should get scientists to figure out how to harness the energy of a bottle of Dr Pepper.
I once dropped an unopened bottle on the footpath, and it exploded quite violently.
In unrelated news, the comma key on my MBP keyboard popped out. I'm not sure what's worse: the fact it happened, or the fact that there's an entire subgenre of Youtube videos dedicated to showing you how to repair it.

It was pointed out to me just now that the last console that major department stores in Australia didn't stock at launch was the Dreamcast.
Make of that what you will.

I have the original one on PS3 and the new one on 360.
Re: Hey Everyone! (1 year ago)
I have all of those except Tekken. I don't get a chance to play much though these days due to various reasons, but if you see me online, I'm always up for a fight.

And yeah, lotus seed pods (especially when they're photoshopped onto people which was a popular internet meme some years ago) are freaky as all hell.
Also, UVB-76. A mysterious radio broadcast that probably originates from Russia. It plays a buzzing sound, except that every few years the sound stops so someone can read out some numbers.
