Honestly, I don't pay much attention to that anymore. Large, popular series tend to suffer from this the most, it just seems to be a part of it. But every now and then, somewhere between the neverending complaints you'll find a good point, so it's not all bad... icon_shifty.gif
I was randomly googling for any possible new Persona 5 info and I found something, but nobody seems to be sure what this could be from (haven't seen this here yet, hope I didn't overlook it). An artbook was released late last year which contains Soejima Shigenori's artworks between 2004-2010. You can check some of it here (I don't think any spoilers are shown, but I obviously can't say for the art of the games I didn't play).

The thing is, there are two artworks that nobody seems to know about where they came from (unlike all the other art, no game is mentioned in the tags);

There are rumors going around this could be art for Persona 5, but it could just as easily be scrapped concept art or simply art for another upcoming game. Some people have pointed out the mask in these images is quite typical for a Persona game, which I agree with. Of course, this doesn't have to mean anything, but it seems interesting enough.

Does anyone here recognise this art from anywhere, by any chance?
(Say no, say no... then we can hope for it being P5 art! xD)
Still playing Little Big Planet 2. I'm done with the story mode now, so I figured I might as well check out some community levels. And I have to say; I really regret... not having done so sooner! Some of the stuff people do with their custom levels is just genius. And there are so many of them too! This is one of those things that I'm probably going to spend lots of time on. And whenever I've got nothing else to play, this is always something I can come back to and see what's new. :]

I know this sounds petty, but I don't really like the designs of a few of these guys. Will it prevent me from loving the game? Nope. But they don't look "cool" ... either too try hard, or way too dorky.
Heh, I've never been a fan of Toriyama's style so I can't see that as petty at all. It gets pretty bland after a while anyway as there's not a lot of variation to his designs, at least the ones I'm familiar with in the DQ series.
I don't care all that much for his designs myself. When I saw those DQVI character designs, I immediately recognised the same style from Chrono Trigger. If there's one thing in that game I didn't like, it's how the characters were drawn. Not like it matters, you see them as SNES sprites almost the entire game anyway.
And while on the subject; I've never been a fan of Amano's Final Fantasy character illustrations either. Which again doesn't matter, because the characters' appearance in the games is nothing like that style.

Hm, I seem to be out of RPG juice lately. There's nothing on my must-buy list in the near future as far as RPGs go (unless I get a PSP soon). I should take a look at my games one of these days and see if there's one I'd like to replay. (Vagrant Story!... maybe later, lol)

Oh man P3P is kicking my ass! I beat the three dancing hands in the 10th floor on my first try and then Mitsuru advised me to split my party up because supposedly they'll gain more experience. Fair enough, so I did and then I got into a battle by myself with one of those giant beetles. It used bash and got a critical hit of 117 damage killing me instantly, joy.
That's why I usually keep my team together in the earlier parts of the game. I never feel as confident about splitting up my team as Mitsuru does. =S

I've been watching a P3P "perfect playthrough" of FemaleMC's route on YouTube for months now (it gets infrequently updated, but I tend to check it every day). The game still looks as fun as I remember it. Once I get a PSP, I'll probably get P3P as well.

I've always liked the "homecoming" moments in P3; every time you return to the dorm someone greets you as that... erm, "comfy" dorm theme starts playing. This hasn't changed in P3P at all, it still has the same effect on me. I do think in the PS2 version the dorm looks a bit empty, especially in the hallways. P3P's visual style seems to camouflage this a bit, it's less noticeable. So that's a plus imo.

(Can't help with the Mass Effect question, haven't played those games myself)

Man, I hate that guy.
I even managed to get him to hit the 999,999 CP cap because I refused to use him.
Heh, even after maxing out everyone's Crystarium grid, I still hit the 999,999 CP limit in my final save... with all of my characters. This can be entirely blamed on the Treasure Hunter trophy. While farming sellable items to get the needed Gil, you're sure to hit the CP limit many, many hours before unlocking this abominable trophy.

I reached a point where farming Platinum Ingots began to piss me off. After an hour of not getting the random drop, I shouted something like "Give me the DAMN item, you miserable <censored>!!!" That's one of those things that can really grate on my nerves in RPGs; rare random drops that you wanna have and never seem to pop up. You test my sanity, Rare Pickup Game. Luckily I'm already cr@zy, so it's all good.
I know for certain FFXIII's savedata isn't locked. I should know, because I've made backups of my FFXIII saves several times (wouldn't want to lose 100+ hours of time spent on my ĂĽbersaves). I always dread the moment when I try backing up savedata of a PS3 game for the first time; will the "locked savedata, cannot copy" message appear or not...? =|

Re: Help with TV (2 years ago)
^ Very useful info. I'm planning to buy a new TV myself, but I'm not too sure what exactly to get either.

I've got an LCD TV right now and the whole contrast/colors thing has become a major issue for me. I've got 3 different positions from which you can watch TV in my room (of which 2 also for gaming) and the way the screen looks brighter/darker from different angles bugs the hell out of me.

So now I'm looking for a Plasma TV, but... I don't actually have much space in my room for the TV itself, so it can't be too big. A 40 inch TV would just barely fit, I can't go bigger than that. Would getting a 37 inch Plasma be a bad idea? It would be the most ideal as far as size goes, but I'm not too sure about the rest.

I wouldn't have said this some years ago, but nowadays FullHD is a must unless you deal with a lot of SD-specific content (older games and TV shows, etc), where the extra native resolution will reward you with a muddier, unclear picture.
I don't suppose anything can be done about that anymore? With my current TV I've especially noticed that my old PS2 games look considerably muddier, some to the point where it kinda hurts my eyes. I haven't been playing my older games much anymore because of this, it gets rather hard on the eyes at times. =/

The ending didn't really feel right to me. There are just too many unexplained events and plot holes
[...]
I'm going to give Indigo Prophecy a go next.
Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit, as it's called here) starts in a great way, but if you think Heavy Rain's ending had too many unexplained events, Indigo Prophecy does this even more so. Actually, that game just seems to fall apart towards the end (imo). A bit rushed, perhaps? I was worried Heavy Rain would do the same thing, but I think it concludes everything in a much more satisfying way.

Heavy Rain doesn't have a "true" ending, btw. It does have quite a few different outcomes, though. If I'm not mistaken, there's actually a trophy for seeing all the different endings (not like I needed any motivation to get those, lol).
I've just finished Little Big Planet 2's story mode. Given that this isn't the kind of game I normally get (it came with my new PS3) and I still had quite a bit of fun, it's a pretty good game.

The gameplay caught me by surprise, as new gameplay elements are introduced in each world (one world in particular almost felt like a different game in itself). The boss fights were kind of a hit 'n miss thing; some were just fine, while a few others were very easy.
On a sidenote, I think the first boss in the game has the best boss theme. That doesn't happen often... xD

Not sure what I'll do next in LBP2, but I do know I won't be going for the Platinum trophy this time (I've seen a few trophies that I really can't be bothered with).

I honestly think that 90% of the problems people have with DOSbox come from negative thinking. On the Wikipedia page (http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_Installation_of_DosBox) there is a very concise tutorial for getting it to work, you pretty much have to type literally what it says there (except for changing obvious things like the game's name of course, but even that is told to you). You don't really need to know the function of what you typed, or learn any other commands at all.
From my own experience with this, the problem with not actually knowing what you're doing -and just typing what the tutorial tells you- would be that as soon as you need to do one little change that isn't word-for-word spelled out, there's a good chance you'll make a mistake. And once you make a tiny mistake and don't even know why it's a mistake, you're not gonna notice it that easily. That's when you start rereading the tutorial over and over again until you figured out what people who understand this sort of stuff would have noticed right away.

And that's how I spent several hours getting that game to work... but how happy I was when I finally got it working! :]
Re: Having Trouble :/ (2 years ago)
I think the option to change the keyboard language is in the... "control panel"? My PC is entirely in Dutch, so I don't know the English terms =/ (directly translated, it says "configuration screen" in Dutch). But I have Windows 7 and simply pressing LEFT ALT + SHIFT switches my keyboard language between Azerty and Qwerty.

DOSbox is a good way to play those older games IF you know how to use it. It's not very user-friendly to people who know nothing about DOS commands and whatnot (people like me, lol). I tried to get Chrono Master working with DOSbox and eventually succeeded, but not until I spent half a day going through all the DOSbox tutorials first and hardly knowing what I was doing. But I must say, those tutorials are well-written. I mean, I managed to do what seemed like mission impossible to me, so it's definitely worth a try.
I've been looking up more info about it and eventually I found this;
Quote
Saved games are linked to your account. If you transfer a saved game (and relevant game data) via USB drive or whatever to another PS3, you will still continue from where you left off so long as you are on your own account. If you use another account, the saved games will not show up and you'll have to start over from scratch.
Luke was right, there doesn't seem to be any good reason why some savedata is locked, given that you can only use it on your own account anyway. Lame...
Luketheman5 wrote
Yeah I really don't get why they even lock saves.....Like is it really THAT bad that I can copy saves of Heavy Rain, Assassin's Creed II, FFXIII, DJ Hero 2? Etc.
I thought Trophies were the main reason for this? If someone copies a savegame from his friend, then he might unlock some trophies which his friend already has.

From having switched to a different PS3, I have seen certain trophies will be instantly unlocked with old savedata. You see, when I reinstalled the 3 Prince of Persia games, all 3 of them glitched my trophy data resetting everything to 0%. I know this is a common problem and that by getting any trophy in the game, your trophy data will be restored. So while I did that;

PoP: Warrior Within; no trophies were unlocked when the game loaded my old savedata. I decided to quickly play through the prologue, which unlocked the first trophy in the game again (trophy data restored to 100%).

PoP: The Two Thrones; as soon as I started the game, the "get 10000 sand credits" trophy instantly unlocked, because I already had more than 10000 sand credits on my old savedata (trophy data restored to 100%).

So it seems if I were to let someone use my savedata, they'd get that 10000 sand credits trophy right away (I'm guessing such trophies as FFXIII's "max out the Crystarium grid" or Dead Nation's "collect all armor pieces" would work in the same way). And I assume that's why certain games have locked savedata. But as someone has said before, it would have been better if they locked the savedata to your PSN ID instead of locking it to your console. =|
It's good to see there will at least be an option to deal with the locked saves issue, though I don't have Playstation Plus either. On the other hand, if I'd have a lot of games with locked savedata in the future and this will be the only way to make backups, then I'd probably go for it anyway. Just imagine if a 100+ hours RPG comes out with locked savedata. If I have to choose between getting Playstation Plus and losing that much hours put into a game... that wouldn't be much of a choice.

Having switched to a different PS3 myself now, I've lost savedata for 3 games since the data was locked. Well, it's only 3 games and none of them are overly long, so it could have been worse (and of course the trophy data isn't affected). Even so, if this ever needs to be done again, at least "online saving" will be an option then.

But I agree it would be better if you could make backups without having to, you know, pay for something which really should be a free feature available to everyone...
^ Looks like a Picasso painting to me now. Where was that image at the very bottom with the black background from again? I can definitely see a blurred Tal-... on the left in that image, and the blurred spiraling green line seems to match the "F" as well. In the new image I see... nothing. I can't even read a single one of those words floating around in it... icon_confused.gif
Re: FFXIII-2 (2 years ago)
^ Oh, I'd love to see that happen. They did the same thing in Xenosaga, giving a few extras in XSII and XSIII if you had clear data from the previous episode. Now that they've mentioned the possibility, I hope they'll decide to include this feature in FFXIII-2 as well. ^^
^ I'm not too sure about the "Yen" either, there does seem to be more behind it. =S

It seems that the puzzle actually gives the url for the site you linked to (I got that info from this site).

I've started playing Little Big Planet 2 earlier today. Never having played the first game, I have to say this game seems to be rather... weird! Very weird, lol. And the first thing that happened when I started playing was *poing* a trophy for playing this game after 9 pm... uhm, nice. Well, I think the word I'm looking for to describe this game would be something like... fascinating. 8]
^ I definitely see "2.2.2011" and I think I also see the word Yen to the right? My browser tab for that page also reads " :[P "... looks like a smiley face sticking its tongue out. o_Ă” Lol, I can't make any sense out of it. Anyone else...?
Re: PS3 Firmware 3.56 (2 years ago)
^ Same for me; 1 minute. I was beginning to think I only got 1/10th of the download or something... but yeah, I don't see any new features either. Kinda bugs me that it almost never says what exactly the update does. Ah well.
Re: FFXIII-2 (2 years ago)
^ There's a translation of Episode i on the net (right here). Credit to donovan515 for pointing it out.
There's also an Episode Zero (click), which is a prologue to FFXIII (spoilers included).
^ Yep, it's good to see all this info being given to us now. For quite a while there was very little known about the game and I had no idea what to expect. But now I can say with certainty; this game looks awesome and I want it! icon_smile.gif

And I don't mind having to wait some more; they can take as long as needed to turn this into a well-polished, fun game. :]
^ Yeah, I've been checking some stuff about it to refresh my memory and I have to say; for a NES game, the dialogue in Faxanadu is very solid. At least, NPCs actually have decent things to say. Usually in those older games if you talk to an NPC, they'll say stuff like "Nice weather today", "Watch out for enemies" or even "I am Error" ( icon_wink.gif ), but in Faxanadu they have more to say than just such short little phrases. That's definitely a plus.
I personally like open endings (but I do like clear endings better, lol). I'm fine with some things being left to players' interpretation. Shadow Hearts: Covenant's ending is a fine example;
Shadow Hearts 1 & 2 (Covenant) SPOILERS wrote
In Covenant's good ending, it could be that Yuri simply died and relived those Shadow Hearts 1 moments in his soul. But it could also be that he really gets to relive the past, in which case he can also try saving Alice this time. He just needs a good walkthrough to figure out how to get the good ending in SH1. =P

(I prefer the latter)
I don't even mind if a character's true fate is left out in the open. For this, I'll take an example from FFVII;
FFVII & Advent Children SPOILERS wrote
Rufus; the last time we see him in FFVII, he's covering his face while his office gets blown up by one of the Weapons. His death is never confirmed, only assumed. Now, I know that it would be more logical to conclude he was very dead, but I've got this movies/games-rule: if you last see a character getting caught in an explosion and their death is never confirmed, then either they're as dead as you'd expect them to be -OR- they survived!

When "wheelchair man" was first shown in an Advent Children trailer, I immediately thought "That has to be Rufus!" It just made perfect sense to me that he would be in a wheelchair due to injuries from the explosion. Of course, he actually doesn't seem to have any such injuries once he takes off his cloak. I guess Rufus is made of steel or something.

But yeah, I've always considered it a possibility that Rufus could have survived. Then again, I like his character, so maybe I just wanted him to be alive, lol.
As long as they don't do something like;

*character A points gun at character B*
*they start struggling*
*screen fades away as shot is heard*
THE END! 8D

... as long as a story doesn't end like that, then yeah, I don't mind open endings.

I also like this shooting mini game in FFX-2 with Yuna, I honestly only vaguely remember the story but I remember that mini game =P
Lol, I remember that minigame too. Iirc doesn't your score carry over into New Game+, making it harder to beat the score each time? At least, I seem to remember I eventually reached a point where I couldn't break the record anymore because it had gotten too high (don't ask how many times I did a New Game+, I completely lost count).

Speaking of which, I really like the New Game+ option in RPGs. Usually they'll add some new stuff so that things won't become too easy, but easier than a regular playthrough. That's also what I prefer with such an option. I was kinda hoping FFX-2 was the beginning of New Game+ for all future FF games, but apparently not. Oh well.

And darn, I wanted to watch the YouTube vid, but I get a message "This video contains content of Sony Music Entertainment, which due to copyright issues has blocked this video in your country" (roughly translated from Dutch). Guess I won't be able to watch it at all... pfft! D:
^ I've seen more people who totally hate the game than people who actually like it. I didn't expect to see this many other people here who liked the game, I'm usually in the minority about that whenever the game is discussed.

Yuna's change didn't bother me. I actually liked how her voice actor intentionally sounded more assertive this time. "You WILL take those words back!" Lol, I love the way how she says that.

FFX-2 is a very hard game. Did you guys ever manage to finish Via Infinito?
I've gone through that place twice (different playthroughs, of course). The boss at the very end of that dungeon plays quite an important part in the story. If anything, that character felt more like a proper villain in FFX-2... despite being completely optional, lol. I do remember it being véry hard and it's been so long since I've played the game that I remember nothing of how I made it through that place (actually, I don't remember anything of in-battle gameplay at all, other than the Dressphere system).

Ditto, and the same goes for some of the harder Dark Aeons. Maybe someday I'll fight them properly... someday far away. But I didn't have to pay him all my Gil. I first worked on maxing out my Yojimbo compatibility and eventually Yuna became best friends with him; I only had to pay him half of my fortune!... hey, for Yojimbo that's quite... friendly...

The only one core difference I ever saw between the two was that fighting The Ultimate Being was an absolute nightmare in number one because of the sluggish controls.
In PE1...? :O For me it was the exact opposite, I thought it was fairly tedious in PE2. Lol, to each their own.

But yeah, I loved PE1, while PE2 was only an "okay" game for me personally. I liked the battle system in the first game better. And the soundtrack. And the supporting characters. Well, basically everything. Not that I dislike PE2, but it just didn't leave much of an impression on me. The first game did. I guess that's why PE1 and PE2 feel quite different to me.
Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
^ Because I haven't forgotten how that awesome clock bug only affected the older PS3 models. I assume this newer model will have a few more things fixed (things that nobody even knows about... yet). Of course, that could just be naive wishful thinking and who knows, maybe this new model has some unknown issues which the older models don't have.

But yeah, "cheaper" isn't my main concern. For me, "is it better?" comes first. I'm also very thrifty, so it's not like I just wasted money that I could have used for something else. This is easily still within my budget. ^^
