The Music within (5 years ago)
I'm looking for programs that synthesize (realistically) a whole bunch of musical instruments (preferably rock instruments), so as i can write some of my own music, anyone know any? and if so what do you know about it?
(cost, performance, ease of use recommendations from other users etc)

Re: Ben Cousins has been arrested (5 years ago)
I'm guessing alot of people in here have something against Bogans...
So whats wrong with us exactly? And please no over generalisations, one Bogan can be just as different to another as one Geek is from another.
And as for Cousins if he has done something stupid well its his damn fault not the clubs so why is the clubs reputation under scrutiny? I don't see Woosha taking or endorsing drug use,
Playing any sport at a professional level takes years of dedication and hard work to earn them the big bucks, there is rarely a "lucky break" involved, and to keep that image once the big leagues have been reached takes even more hard work to please the crowds and score the points to maintain the big buck income.
Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles try to hang onto cousins loosing quite possibly 2 of the best midfielders in the game will be hard on them next year.

The vague oxymoron they use by putting Salvation in the title (as rodvcpetrie said its a finalising word) could be to reference the back and forwards through time bit that the entire Terminator series uses
Re: The Movie Quotes Game (5 years ago)
While we all wait for Theory to post a Quote heres one for the interum
"Miss Davis... Will you go t' the prom wi' me?"
"Miss Davis... Will you go t' the prom wi' me?"
IMO "salvation" is no better or worse than "A New Hope" a movies merits should not be judged on the title, as Star wars IV was the movie that started the craze for that particular... (what do you call a series of 6? a chronicle?)
As for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson... did no-one like The Scorpion King?
and if you want a huge guy for action (who can act for real instead of just hamming it for a few gratuitous bicep shots) why not go with Michael Clark Duncan?
personally i think there is too much to happen for everything to be summed up in 1 movie: Kyle and then Arnie to be sent back, requiring the capture of the time machine and the capture of a T800, the prison break described in one of the movies, the inevitable good guy victory.
Most movie struggle with 2 major hurdles let alone 5 (and i think Ive missed a few) granted you can start the movie at say... sending Kyle Reese back because all the fans will already understand if they do that then they could fit (at a squeeze) everything into one movie. Oh well bring it out and lets see if they've held up to to the expectations of continuity or if they ham it like Rocky 4.

Halo 1 for the win. and seeing how everyone else has already stated why it's such an awesome game, I only really have to make 1 or 2 small comments of my own.
1. short FPS's really gets my goat. You just start to really disappear into it and... the credits roll past... really, really annoying.
2. There is no other FPS I have ever played that i have spent so much time on i practically lived in multi-player for months getting screen shots in places i wasn't supposed to be being a member of a 16 man pyramid on top of sidewinder (and then trying to blow us up) standing outside the map with a sniper rifle in sidewinder, flying through the sky on a ghost (not banshee) in blood gulch, the list goes on.
oh and UT Tournament for second place and doom (original) for third for all the reasons already given in this thread.

Cant tell you the exact date that each issue comes out but I can recommend going to the Games Workshop Australia website to find out more.
P.S. Sorry about posting twice in a row on the same thread, just though it was aappropriate in this case.

Re: Warhammer and its derivitives (5 years ago)
Well... since I started the thread I may as well contribute,
Since I started playing Warhammer 40,000 (also known simply as 40k) I have played three separate races
I started with the Tyranids, being that I was I little younger the thought of playing an insectoid, highly alien and thoroughly not of our universe eating machine with a hive mind, really suckered me in but I could never get a handle on the tactics to use them. As such I only ever ended up buying 1 squad of Genestealers, which were painted in the time honored ability of an anxious 13 year old holding a paintbrush for the first time. (To translate it was utter... well you understand
)
The second race I played was the Eldar, and this was mainly because a) I'd given up on the tyranids and b) my brother had moved out and left me his army, My brother has returned and this army now officially belongs to both of us because of the effort we both put into increasing the size and usability of it. Now totaling somewhere around the 5000 point mark and around $1000 dollars in miniatures (not including time and paint invested in them) it is by far the most impressive of all of our armies,
The latest race I've played is the Necron, an ancient race back from the dead to haunt the younger races and restart their ancient technology for the conquering of the universe, how could I go wrong, right? Little did I know just how much an army of Necrons would cost... and just how different they are to the Eldar.
Eldar = fast, agile, shooty and versatile
Necron = slow, tough, single minded and totally in for close quarters shooting matches
I have now started dabbling in Warhammer fantasy as the night goblins but I'm thinking about switching over to the Ogre Kingdoms while my brother is flipping a coin between the dwarves and high elves.

Re: Old Games Revisited (5 years ago)
Has anyone played (and completed) any of the 'escape from Monkey Island' games?
Is it just me or do you just have to have the knack to get on with the game i think i played number 4 for about an hour before i just got fed up with the whole thing. Its unfortunate because it was heartily recomended to me. (oh and i couldn't really get over the main character being a coward)

Warhammer and its derivitives (5 years ago)
Well... I know at least one other person on PALGN used to play Warhammer 40,000 and there are probably a bunch of other people on here that play one game or another that has its roots in Rogue Trader,
So heres the thread to bring out your best painted models from whatever game what ever rules set and have a chat about your particular painting tips and colour schemes or just to proudly show of your best model(s) and scenery
(BTW this includes Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Blood Ball, Necromunda, Battle Fleet Gothic, Rogue Trader and any other Games Workshop game)

Re: Govt (aka us) pays for breasts enlargement (5 years ago)
The Breast Implants are a quick fix or band-aid solution, and yes the money would have been better spent on getting some high grade shrinks which i might add can cost just as much.
So what would the public back lash have been if we found out that (lets say) 1 woman per military base in Australia (for arguments sake lets say there are 100) was having high end counciling for self esteem issues relating to their cup size, this would work out roughly to $1M/year with some of them needing continuing help, as some people always do, so the cost would be much greater in the long run than to just give them a pair perky self-esteem adjusters.
I don't agree with the Military paying for them but i can see the point.

Re: Chris Mainwaring dead in late night tragedy (5 years ago)
^The drugs the Cousins was on reduces apatite and increases physical activity as a stimulant resulting in a nett loss of weight, both in muscle and in fat, if you haven't noticed he has gained a significant amount of muscle weight, not an easy thing to do when your hyperactive and not eating...
Besides isn't he supposed to be undergoing 'constant' random drug tests?
Anyway, although Mainy is suspected to have had either a) a seizure b) a drug overdose or c) both of the above, should we not just wait and see what the autopsy result is? it is planned for later this week and should explain everything. I am so hoping it wasn't an O/D because then the blame will be automatically placed on Cousins which he and his/Mainy's families don't need.
RIP Mainy, you will be missed

^Ahhhh dear old L-space, don't ever forget your ball of string!!
(for those of you who don't know knowledge=power Power=energy Energy=matter Matter=Mass therefore knowledge=mass and library=black-hole)
Peter F. Hamilton is a writer i would recommend to anyone who likes the Sci-fi genre especially his nights-dawn trilogy, quite intense lots of detail and the only problem I've heard other people have with it is too many disparate storey lines... but i loved the series it goes into a lot of depth about the technology and the way it works and it explores the growth of human expectations and segregation of societies with different ideas.
Very interesting.

Re: Muck up day (5 years ago)
We got some pretty dire threats from our teachers about the results of muck up day so nothing major happened except for a couple of minor eggings however...
My brothers year put all of the outside benches and bins on top of the gym (it had a three story roof) but somehow the gardeners got them all done again before school started, and my sisters year advertised a couple of teachers cars and the schools grand piano for sale in the West Australian. Apparently the calls for the piano came in for weeks after. Eventually the poor teacher had to advertise it as sold to stop people calling.

and your right the history and story behind every 40k race is unbelievable as each race personifies one or more traits readily visible in todays society, My friends dont believe me when I tell them the depth and magnitude of said history rivals that of Starwars.
Long life to the Necrontyr
It would be interesting if they pulled the Squats back into it ("from the depths of Rogue trader to YOU") but i just cant see that happening, or they could use this opportunity to raise a new species... could be cool (for the new expansion)[/u]

There was a trailer at superbad that caught my attention...somewhat
A game that i have played and conquered many times on x-box and PC
Hitman
Cant wait! it looks thoroughly awesome
just a little touch of romance in the trailer is the only thing I'm worried about, I mean this is Seven isn't it? Romance? hes more likely just to pwn her and leave. but still

^ bullet time!!!
Nothing quite like it at all, well there is, Max Payne may not be the first, definitely not the last but certainly the best with bullet time.
I think number two is still on here somewhere...
yep and so is DoW super cool especially with all the expansions...
dagnam it, because of this thread there's like 6 games I want to go and play and I just don't have 12 hands to do it all at the same time
And to add to this for some reason Medieval: Total War is a game I constantly go back to, it looks terribly dated especially next to the most recent one but the simplicity of attracts my attention when I just cant be bothered thinking

The point is not to google it but to use you own knowledge of movies to win a turn to put up a quote
(hmmm... maybe their could be a $poon prize for either those people that answer correctly or perhaps for those that post quotes that stump everyone)

Football grandfinal and other sporting Finals (5 years ago)
Well, seeing as The AFL Grand Final is only 2 days away i figured it was time to bring up the discussion and well not to long after this will be the Rugby world cup and forgive me if I'm wrong ( i tend towards definite mushroomness) the 20/20 cricket final.
So... Geelong-Port Adelaide with 18 and 15 wins respectively this year and Port Adelaide defeated Geelong in round 21 by 5 points however Geelong Stomped Port in round 9 by 56 points
Geelong with 3 injuries, Port with 4 injuries
So both teams near full strength- always a good thing for a GF
Personally i want Port to win but i think Geelong will just nab it in a very close game

The company i work for doesnt allow music in the office...
something to do with upsetting the balance
or just the extreme views of the boss and his wife... and his daughter... in fact half of the office employees come from the same church and have some very strong views about what music is apropriate (which means none unless they specifically chose it) Is it so much to ask to allow head phones and a flashdrive of music?
Meh *shrug*, I'll get my Metal fix from Bodom on the way home tonight

in terms of the name as a whole - i have less issue with the "Salvation" part than i do with "The Future Begins" part. this is completely nonsensical. what does it mean?
