Why don't we stop accepting the boat people (mainly males may I add) for a while and take in the Japanese refugees instead?? How else can you evacuate 600,000 people?? And the orphans. icon_sad.gif
What the **** ****?

There are so many things wrong and kind of offensive about this post.
Sorry wasn't trying to be offensive. Just thought that we provide assistance to so many others why can't we accommodate some Japanese even on a temporary basis. At least get them away from danger for a while.

Hey Dash,
Out of interest, what do you play? Cuz you sure don't play a lot!!
*kicks ground and coughs*

Well I do play GOW, Halo (1, 2, 3), Borderlands, Army of Two (1, 2), MW2 (just got and played thru single campaign last Saturday), Fable (1, 2, 3). All on XBOX 360 which I got for my b'day last year. I rather like shoot 'em ups.

Plus it is hard to find co-op games. Prefer to play games with someone but not online.

Recently got a 2nd hand PSP and am just about to try GTA & SOCOM on it. Plus loved God of War.

I know I need to be educated ... thank goodness for PALGN!!

Shameful I know but I lead a hectic life and most other things take priority.

At least they would be getting in Australia the official way?
Deus who????

Is this another for my list? Starting to make me wonder if I should be on a gaming site. Dang!
Don't pre-order as the games are too expensive but would have loved Sackboy. Shame I don't have a PS3.

The best thing I ever got was when I bought my XBOX 360 the dude went in the back room and got me a selection of games that were meant to have been handed out with the xbox over the last 6 months. Got Kung Fu Panda, Lego Indiana, PGR, Lego Batman, Sega Superstars Tennis, some MX vs ATV. I told him I had kids so he found what he could. Best bonus ever!!
Oops forgot to mention

Little Big Planet - no PS3, looks interesting
Alan Wake - I'm a scaredy cat
Bulletstorm - too expensive
Enslaved - soooo want to
Mortal Kombat - nope
Mario - looks cute
Pokemon - hmmmmm
Red Dead Redemption - price icon_cry.gif
God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP

Don't have much time at the moment, and nothing appeals on the xbox, so I snuck this one in between life's moments.
What major Franchise/s haven't you played that would shock someone?

Fallout
Killzone
COD
Wold of Warcraft
Any Kirby Game
Metroid
Zelda
Any sports game (basketball, soccer, golf, boxing, dancing, fighting)
Any racing game (cars, MX, MTV)

Why haven't you played certain franchises? Is it no appeal? Feel it's over rated? Or simply don't have the system to play it on?
In general I give most games a chance. Do not play anything online. Prefer games which have co-op so I can play with my partner. icon_lol.gif Sports ones suck. I suck at racing games - hey I crash in SSX... continually.
Mass players on line does not appeal. COD fans scare the bejeebies out of me.

Of those which would you like to play?
I'd love to give zelda a whirl on a big console - not DS etc. Fallout and Killzone look my style though the budget is tight so I have to wait till prices are in a reachable range. (I normally have to sell some to get one - it dwindles my collection)
After struggling with chronic illness and only doing technical writing, I have finally found the energy to start a new novel.

Fiction is a lot less predictable than training guides and procedure manuals.

Sigh, it feels nice.
Problem solved.

Bought item as faulty and sold it on as faulty ... yet still managed to make a minor profit.

I'll stick to PSP's as they have less soldering - next to none really.
Next question. Let's hope Esposch is around.

SO.... if I replace the card reader and I am gently soldering on the little metal tabs at the back of it - there are a bunch of the skinny little things. Is it an issue if two get soldered together?

I hate soldering ... its like you need six hands to get it done right.
Dang! I found an answer. CHAPSTICK!!!

Steps
1. Smudge it all over the disk
2. Polish it off with a soft cloth
3. Reassemble disk or replace UMD case
4. Insert and play.

Sweet! My partner and I did argue over the cherry flavour but ended up using plain chapstick. It worked on the majority of disks.

I am still open to other suggestions.

Hmmm ... Burnz ... did you run yours behind the car again?
Scratched PSP disks ... please help

I have several PSP disks that are scratched and are not reading. I have taken them out of their cases and polished them as I do my DVD's with special DVD/CD repair polish and cleaning spray. I have even replaced their UMD cases. They appear clean enough (with minor minor scratches) but still don't work past the opening menus and cinemagraphics.

Either the laser is extra sensitive or I am doing a crap job.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Howdy

I have been repairing Sony PSP's without much problem. Now I have been given a DS Lite with hinge issues. The work does not look too hard.

My question is:

When replacing the hinges, is it best to replace the whole housing at the same time? Or is just replacing the hinges sufficient or possible?

I've read a few article where they say you should replace the housing but the articles were written by companies trying to sell you the housing.

Any advice would be great. Either way I'll be tearing one apart on the week-end.
Re: eBay/Paypal warning! (2 years ago)
I had an account banned once for violation of use. The funny thing was at the time the 2 year old account hadn't been used in 6 months. So I asked them to kill it and I started a new one. It wasn't worth fighting over.

They are a law upon themselves. Yet I have also been the representative from an international company requesting counterfeit products be banned. In that situation you have a lot of hoops to jump through too!

Any reason for that? Less people at home to watch the auctions or something?
No idea. I charted PSP's over 3 weeks and that was the answer. I also charted model, colour, accessories etc. As you can tell I love facts and figures, probably why I am a technical writer - its all in the details.

Personally I have a good ebay rating - sell at a good price, buy at fantastic prices.
Re: Buying a PSP (2 years ago)
I have been repairing and using both the 1000 and 2000 model PSP's. I prefer the slightly heavier 1000 as it feels more solid in your hands. It seems to work fine, be clear and load okay.

2000/3000 are meant to have better screens and run faster. All have wifi.

Plus it is cheaper to fix a 1000 or 3000 than a 2000. Why? I have no idea, but if you crack a screen I'd rather have a 1000 or 3000.

Good luck!
The other issue is that not everybody plays online.
Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
Modern Warfare 2 - XBOX 360

Cash Converters had it behind the counter as they wondered if it was worth mor than the $20 on it. I was buying 20 new release DVD's @ $3 each so they let me have it!!

$20 is sweet for such a game. I love this cashies, they do everything cheap - No PSP game is over $7, No DVD over $7, no PS3/XBOX games over $25, no matter how new they are.

Sweeeeeeet!!
Was replacing a cracked LCD screen on a PSP and the back light didn't work. Was sad at not fixing it until I bypassed the fuse and .... BINGO!!!

So wish I learnt more from my dad who was an electrician by trade. He has parkinsons now but he is always a reliable phone call away!
Wow, I saw much positive glowing in the review words in regards to the game with only the controls mentioned as unsatisfactory.

Maybe the controls are made clumsy for people to think outside of the square and attempt something else?

As a review it was praiseful where necessary, and warned of possible hardships to be encountered. To me it was well balanced, offering an unbiased review for those considering purchase, or for those on the road of discovery who think maybe they are doing it wrong.

A rating is generally based on hard facts and not on hard core fan's likes or dislikes. Reviews are for the undecided who ponder whether the outlay of cash is viable. A balanced review offers a balanced decision.

I have hated games which where rated at 9.5 and others at 2. I've adored games rated 1.5 and others at 8. The more we play the more we can figure out what appeals and what makes for a sad session. Knowing these facts helps to decipher a review into what could potentially be the best buy of the century or the worst investment ever.

Reviews don't sell games. They may gently nudge, yet ultimately the choice is the gamers. Ultimately you have to know what factors you do and do not like.
Am probably used to the kids Nintendo DS's. The only noise I hear is their squeals of delight or squeaks of distaste.

I appreciate all the responses.
Bought a 2nd hand PSP to play with.

It seems to have a lot of disk noise. Do they normally sound like that?

I was also thinking of changing the housing. Has anyone done that and are there any warnings?

Cheers
I have an arcade (won it on the day I saved up enough to win one on ebay ... what the???) and a pro (ebay buy - 2nd hand).

Both are noisy when running though the pro is much louder.

Played both for over a year (kids on one, me on the other) and neither have died ... yet...
Sweet. What a convincing argument you all provide! RPG's and shooters are my main staple so it looks good.

Now to find a bargain, then convince my partner to buy it.
I have an XBOX 360 so I can't play God of War. I thought it may be okay on the PSP.

Plus there seems to be more shooters on the PSP that the DS.
Would a PSP 1004 be okay for around $60?

I know its chunkier but I'm no tech geek and will play just straight games.
Am looking at getting a PSP for my birthday, possibly a 2nd hand one if the price is right.

Do they have issues? And is it worth getting one?

I've had a Nintendo DS before and enjoyed it to a point. Game limitation was the biggest disappointment so I sold it.

So are the newer models better or are they very much the same? I just want to play games and maybe a few movies when I travel.

Any suggestions?
Re: ilomilo (2 years ago)
Is it on Xbox 360?
Trick is to avoid the missiles and snipe the helicopter while it is in front of the big drive in screen! The cinema graphics demand it be in this location.

Stand out the back door and snipe thru it and the projector window.

Problem solved. Will continue with this for a little longer.
