Been waiting all this gen for this one. Demo hit the US PSN earlier today (don't know about Xbox), currently downloading. Will post impressions in a bit. You can unlock a 2nd character if you invite a friend to download the demo.
Re: The PSP Vita Thread (1 year ago)
You don't have to spend $30/month, it's prepaid so you can go for months without 3G then recharge when a game comes out with 3G features that interest you. I don't own a smartphone so I'll be making a lot of use from the Facebook/Twitter apps, Near looks pretty cool too. I'll probably recharge once to get the free download of Wipeout 2048, then switch carrier cause fuck Vodafone.
Re: The PSP Vita Thread (1 year ago)
I've upgraded my pre-order at GAME today to the 3G model, figured it's a cheap way of getting Wipeout 2048 and I'm sure as time rolls by games will start using the 3G features more.
Day 1 purchases:
3G Vita (Ridge Racer and Wipeout 2048 "free" with purchase)
8 gig memory card
Uncharted: Golden Abyss retail
Super Stardust Delta digital

If you want to quit smoking then nothing will beat a vape (I highly recommend the 510). It's just BS that the nicotine based juice is illegal to sell in Australia, although importing is still cheap so it's not too bad. Got a nicotine-free "Honey" flavoured juice with my starter kit, tastes great.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V announcement trailer (1 year ago)
IGN contacted Ray Liota's publicist, who said he is not the voice in the trailer. Could be possible that Rockstar have asked all voice actors to deny any ties to the game for now, but I doubt it.
Re: Grand Theft Auto 5 (1 year ago)
I'd say May 24, probably 2012. It will be delayed of course.
It's a bit strange they didn't focus more on the main character, but it's only a teaser and they already revealed so much here so save some for later I guess.
Edit: Forgot that Max Payne 3 is in March, I'd say late 2012. PC version day one please, I'm assuming that's what the trailer is.
Also dogs! I wonder if they will be only in cutscenes or if they will be interactive...police dogs?

Re: RAGE (1 year ago)
I'm running the PC version, downloaded the update today and enabled v-synch. Every time I confirm the changes and return to the game, v-synch automatically disables and I'm still left with some pretty bad screen tearing. It doesn't make the game unplayable, but it can get quite annoying. I've tried different combinations of OFF/ON/SMART with forcing/not-forcing v-synch in the Nvidia control panel, but nothing works. The closest explanation I can find is in the Steam update log:
"If you are running RAGE in full-screen mode and you ALT-TAB to a
different application you may lose your VSync setting. When you
switch to a different application VSync stops functioning.
RAGE detects that VSync is no longer working and automatically switches
back to synchronizing to real-time to make sure the game time advances
in a consistent manner. We are actively working with the graphics
vendors on a solution to this problem. "
Definetely not alt-tabbing, although it's probably related.

There will be a proper announcement from Valve within 24 hours. Should be playable at Gamescom.

Hard Reset announced (1 year ago)
Came across this game announcement on FB today, looks like it could be fun. Game is called Hard Reset, PC exclusive FPS due September 2011. Runs on the new "Road Hog" engine and the team feature staff from Painkiller, Bulletstorm, The Witcher and Sniper: Ghost Warrior.
Some screens:
It's nice to see a game announced that is 2 months away, not 2 years away.

PC got delivered today, everything was pre-installed so just booted to desktop, had a quick look around and got to the games. Picked up Crysis 2 and GTAIV: Episodes from Liberty City (for that fancy new ICE mod), along with a 27" Benq 1080p monitor (figured I kinda needed one). Crysis 2 on ultra is just awesome (although I got some weird bug on I think the 4th mission where my gun was just a blurry mess whenever I moved, also the draw distance was about 1/10th of what it should be, fixed itself once the 5th mission loaded though). GTAIV is being a bitch and wants me to create a Games for Windows Live account just so I can save my progress so I'm just going to ignore that for a while.
Thanks to everyone who helped out!
Karma was quick to catch up though, already spilled half my chop bowl into the thing. I THINK it's all good.
Anyway...
I'm ready.

Yep, it's a 2500K, is it really just a few clicks to OC?

Single monitor only, I'll be hooking it up to my 1080p TV to start with then investing in a quality PC monitor in the near future, although as long as it can run games at 1080p I'll be very happy. I might go multi-monitor somewhere down the line but I'll be happy with the single screen for now.
I think I'll go with the GTX 580, it's within my budget and I've generally stuck with nVidia in the past, may as well keep the tradition going.
I'll try and get a full parts list together soon so you guys can let me know what terrible choices I have made
Cheers for the help!

I think I'll go with 8GB, the price difference between 4 and 8 makes me say eff it. It seems that RAM speed is pretty damn important too, anything I should be looking out for?
GPU wise, I'm liking the look of the GTX 580 although it seems to only be available in a 1.5GB option? I'm sure that's fine but I just assumed there would be a 2 GB model.
As an aside, Metro 2033 in DX11 must look amazing because...damn.

Definetely mainly going to be used for gaming, there will be a bit of audio editing done from time to time but nothing too intensive editing wise. I figured the price wouldn't be that great (however doubt I could find much better in Bathurst), I guess buying parts online will be the way to go.
It's about time I caught up to the Master Race, I'll be purchasing a new PC over the next few days and could use some advice. I'm looking to spend between $1500 and $2000, my local computer guy offered me the following (not much detail for now but he is getting back to me with exact parts).
Option 1:
CPU: i7 2.93GHz (4x)
RAM: 8GB
GPU: 1GB 6850
HDD: 2TB
Blu-ray reader/DVD burner
Windows 7 64 bit
$1,499
Option 2:
CPU: i7 3.08 GHZ (x4)
RAM: 12GB
GPU: 2GB 6950
HDD: 2TB
Blu-ray burner, DVD burner
Windows 7 64 bit
$2000.
Any recommendations?

My Nokia N96 finally died and I know next to nothing about touch screen phones (bought my N96 right before the iPhone came out, kinda glad I did) but it's time to finally invest in one. My GF has an iPhone 4 and I've messed around with it a few times to play things like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja but that's about as far as my experience goes. Anyone got any recommendations? Anything coming out in the near future that's so good I would be crazy to buy a new phone now? Thanks.

Re: MOTORSTORM 3. (2 years ago)
Picked up a copy today, I'm on day two of the 2nd campaign and the destruction is really picking up, it's pretty fun trying to pick where the track is going to fall apart next. It's definetely no Pacific Rift 2, the way the vehicles handle is different, but I don't think the more "floaty" controls of Motorstorm/Pacific Rift would work in these environments all that well anyway. The physics were pretty awkward and hard to get used to, but I think I've finally gotten used to them (you have to drift...a lot).
Track design is awesome. Some of the levels are huge, with 3 or 4 major possible routes intertwining each other constantly over multiple levels of verticality. There is a lot of exploring to be done here.
The game looks amazing, I'm playing in 3D on a 55" Bravia and 3D is very immersive. Evolution are masters of making building fall down.
Regarding the soundtrack, it's not the best of the series but still a standout feature. It's surprised me a few times, the 1st track that played on the main menu was dubstep (none of my housemates believed it was actually music from the game) so it's definetely trying something new for the series and generally has more ups than downs. Still have not heard any Pendulum, which is dissappointing given the series history. Thank God for custom soundtracks.
I've played a few multiplayer races but there is noone online, probably due to the reasons mentioned above. Is anyone up for some races tonight?

Played the demo, loved it, cannot wait to buy it. I think I will get the ps3 version just so I can play Extraction in HD. Downside to that is I will need to fork out for move. PC to console graphics dont bother me as its the story that really got me into this game, graphics arnt everything.

Must be a sequel to a huge franchise to warrant this much hype. GTA V, Halo 4, Half Life 2: Episode 3 (I wish).

"How far into the future are the VGAs going? I just reviewed a piece that says "coming 2013" at the end."

Out of nowhere, there's rumours flying around tonight that Valve is on the cusp of revealing a new game.
It's not Episode 3, but for many, it will be the next best thing: a new Counter-Strike game.
Most of the chit-chat so far is based around testers (and eSports commentators) having very recently got some hands-on time with the rumoured project at Valve HQ. Some of them even pausing to take happy snaps of the trip.
All of the testers are involved in some way or another with the eSports scene, in particular competitive Counter-Strike gaming, and have apparently been down at Valve HQ giving their thoughts on a current build of the project.
Its full name is supposedly Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and is due out in Q1 2012. Whether it's a major update to the existing Counter-Strike or an all-new title isn't clear yet. According to the testers, some of the changes it would be making to the series' tried and tested formula would be new guns, new grenades, revamped maps and free ammo.
Oh, and the fact it'll be running on an updated version of Valve's Source Engine. And hats? No word yet on hats.
We've contacted Valve for more info, and will update if we hear back.
