I'm currently training to become a Dental Nurse on the job and a school component of course. It's an interesting job, that's for sure, but I'm really enjoying it. I used to work at GAME though.
Re: What made you smile today? (2 years ago)
Got a new job!
Very pleased to be leaving my current job as it was just making me plain unhappy. So I decided to apply for a job that I saw in the paper that for some reason gave me a good feeling. So I applied for it on the 29th of March, had the interview on Tuesday evening, and found out today that I got it. So very, very happy. I start on the 2nd of May. Can't wait!

Re: Gigs 2011 (2 years ago)
Got my tickets today to the Destroy Music Melbourne show featuring The Amity Affliction (love these guys to death!), I Killed The Prom Queen, Deez Nuts and Of Mice and Men. Really stoked to be going to this gig, saw Amity at Soundwave (amongst other bands of course) and they absolutely killed it. So I'm really, really happy today
.
Also have the Disturbed gig with Trivium and As I Lay Dying (I think...) in late April. Really looking forward to that!

Yeah, GAME have them for $19. I bought a couple, one for my xbox for the TV in my room and another for the PS3 in the lounge. They work perfectly fine

Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
I've bought a few things recently but with working so much I haven't found the time to post them here.
Borderlands on 360. I know I'm late to the party on this one but it really is a good game. One of my friends was telling me about it and so I picked up a pre-owned copy with staff discount from work and am very happy I did.
Fallout: New Vegas. Not terribly impressed so far but I'll have a decent sesh with it soon to see if it wins me over.
Fable 3. Man this is such an awesome game! Am keen to give it a second run through, but after a weekend of just playing it I do need a rest.
4 x Tool tickets to Melbourne February 2nd Show. The best purchase of them all. My husband is a huge fan along with his brother and our friend, and I love them too. So he got in on the fan club pre-sale and after a while of confusion we managed to get some stall seats three rows from the front! So we're pretty excited, February can't come quick enough!

Re: EB / GAME (2 years ago)
I work at my local GAME store, and I went around to the EB in the shopping centre that it's located in to trade a game into it for the AC: Brotherhood Codex Edition. The manager told me, despite the fact I was in full GAME uniform, that GAME was closing down it's stores, but apparently my store was safe. Nonetheless I almost laughed in his face and was like, "yeah, righto mate". So it's obviously something going on in EB HQ, which Zhou highlighted in his post.
(Yes, I know it seems odd, but the Codex edition is a lot better than the Auditore / Lineage edition and I'm an AC collector. My husband is getting the Auditore edition from my work anyway and giving me the stuff out of it because he's awesome
)
Obviously entertained, but slightly annoyed, at what the manager told me, I went back to my own manager and told her what he said. Let's just say the following events were very amusing and he had a lot of egg on his face.
Anyway, I was looking at the KPI reports today and according to it from memory there still is 102 stores open, so we're not going entirely out of business just yet. The main focus at the moment is improving KPI's all around and from what I heard they're closing down the less profitable stores in order to open new ones in better locations.

Re: What really ticks you off? (2 years ago)
Noticed that my puppy wasn't feeling too well today, so I took her to the vet a bit earlier and found out that she's got something wrong with her abdomen and she has a heart murmur.
The heart murmur is obviously the main concern as the abdominal problems will hopefully go away in a couple of days the vet said, but to find out how bad the murmur is and whether she'll need medication will cost so much money. Just to get the scans on her heart will cost about $400.
Just want my girl to be okay

Re: Which was the last game you finished? (2 years ago)
Cyph, I finished LittleBigPlanet not long ago as well and you're right about the strange run mechanics and the jump that sometimes just decided not to, which resulted you in sliding into a pit of burning lava or something else of similar description. This did frustrate me quite a bit, and so did the last two levels, they were so hard! However with patience, persistence and remembering where the hazards and all that were in the levels I eventually got there. I lost count on how many tries it took though. Also the forced multiplayer thing, that was a little annoying on my part too, but I just skipped it in teh end.
The game on the other hand is amazing. Its graphically brilliant and just the amount of creativity and imagination put into the game is amazing. I couldn't get over some of the awesome and sometimes cute things that would appear in levels. One thing that sticks out to me is in the earlier part of the game is if you wanted to get from the ground platform, to a platform above, you had to board a giant shoe in order to get there.
I'm not normally into puzzle / concept type games but I just couldn't get enough of LBP. I loved it (despite how frustrating it did get) and am happy to recommend it to anyone at work. I find my major selling point for the game is people who just want a game where its not too serious, or parents who are looking for games for their children and don't want violent games or games that might be too difficult. You just said towards the end it got hard? Yes, but funnily enough kids seem to do a better job, my Assistant Managers 12 year old girl managed to finish the game on PS3 and is breezing through it on PSP. Also the vast amount of things you can do on line from collecting items to the "wild west of PSN"
multiplayer will make up for the difficulty towards the end.

Re: Which was the last game you finished? (2 years ago)
Finished off Uncharted 2: Among Thieves tonight. A bit behind the times I know but I've been going through a phase where I can't stick to a game and then switch between my 360 and PS3, then swap to the opposite of what I'm playing, then decide I'm hungry and make some toast, and then realise its 1am in the morning and should get to bed as I have errands / work the next day
. Lately I've been on a game finishing spree and finished off other games such as LittleBigPlanet, and Uncharted 1: Drake's Fortune of course amongst other titles.
Anyway, I felt Uncharted 2 was a lot stronger than number one. You might say this is a given since they have an opportunity to review the game, fix all the existing flaws, find out what the fans liked / didn't like about it and then fix whatever may be wrong with the game and add new things onto it. I'm sure we know this isn't always the case (yes Driver 3 I'm looking at you >.>), but sometimes it works out.
Nate to me through the entirety of 1 and 2 was a strong character, and this is what kept me playing number 1. I really didn't like some of the mechanics in it, and sometimes it was just plain frustrating, but otherwise it was pretty fun and I did end up finishing it. I played the games back to back so I could see the differences and it really was obvious.
The story line in number 2 was a lot better in my opinion, and some of the levels as a result were hella fun. My two favourite levels were by far the stealth level in the museum at the beginning of the game, and the train level just before Tibet. The first game I was happy to put the game down for a while and come back to it, where as I found in the second game I wanted to keep on playing and find out what was going to happen next.
The developers seem to fix some of the problems I noticed in the first one, such as it didn't take as many bullets to kill the enemies. I always thought it was kind of silly that it took six bullets (sometimes including a headshot or two) to kill a bunch of dudes in singlets and shorts, but in the second game it took either a clean headshot or two or three shots to kill enemies. I don't mean it was easier, I just felt it was more realistic.
To end this wall of text (believe me I could write a lot more), Uncharted 2 is a good game and I'd recommend playing it for sure (even though most of you have probably played it eons before myself
). Solid story line, like-able protagonist, even the support characters were great and just a plain fun game all round.

My loot from the GAME sale also:
Heavenly Sword (PS3) - $8 (P/O)
Soul Calibre IV (PS3) - $8 (New and Sealed)
Watchmen: The End Is Nigh (PS3) - $8 (P/O)
Supreme Commander (360) - $8 (New and Sealed)

I'm dying to see nice price reductions on Army of Two: 40th Day (either), Darksiders (PS3) and Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce (either). I'll know on hopefully Monday but probably Tuesday when the next list comes in and definitely have my fingers crossed!
I also got a real gem from EB today.
Eternal Sonata (PS3) - $46 (was hoping to pick it up pre-owned because it would be cheaper and cheaper again with the Edge card as well but I'm extremely happy to pick it up new too)

To lash out at anyone saying that only makes you a douche wallowing in self pity.
I had a poor ending to a 5 year relationship get me down in the dumps for a good 7 or 8 months, but I didn't wallow about and sook about it. Life moves on and clearly if the special feelings werent returned from this person then you are being clingy and need to move on.

To an extent, yes, there are 'plenty of fish in the sea', but at the same time that doesn't make things any easier. My boyfriend passed away last year and I had people reciting to me that 'there's plenty of fish in the sea', 'you're young you'll find someone' or the many different ways someone can tell someone to 'get over it'. This just made me cry even more because I felt that people weren't letting me deal with the loss of not only my loved partner but my best friend. I felt like that they were telling me that my loss wasn't as important, especially when it was compared to say the starvation of African children. I know my family and some friends were trying to help, but honestly, it just made me feel worse. I felt like I couldn't grieve, and that I couldn't talk about it. So I bottled it up, started drinking because the millions of things going on inside my head were making me crazy and I had no outlet.
So I've since made a vow never to tell someone that there is someone out there for them or to get over it, because I know how it made me feel, and while I could have just been overreacting I don't want to know that I made someone feel the same way I did.
I have since found a fantastic new man, but I still grieve, love and think about my... ex I suppose you could call him, I'm not really sure how to word it. It still hurts, and its been about 12 months now. If it wasn't for my new partner holding me as I cried myself to sleep (over various things) and showing me that there is life that is worth living, I would still be in the same situation where I'd hide in my room and cry and think horrible things.
For instance my mother passed ten years ago, and I never had a father, and both of those situations affect me to this day. It hasn't really hit me until this year just how much I missed my Mum. I'm going through a stage where I would normally be relying on my parents, and I can't, so again I feel like I can't talk about things or share my feelings, it gets bottled up and it makes me crazy. Thank God I don't drink or smoke anymore, otherwise I'd be a terrible mess.
I understand your logic of throwing someone in the deep end to deal with a fear, but in some cases it just doesn't work, it makes things worse. Especially when it comes to emotional things. I'm jealous that you can overcome a mental block, because for me, its one of my weaknesses. I don't know whether that is because of a lack of parental guidance or I'm just a weak person, but when something bad happens, it really gets me down, and it usually takes me months, sometimes years to get over a trauma. Anxiety and depression is a deep rooted problem, and throwing someone into a situation that triggers anxiety and depression can cause some serious damage. To treat these, a cause must be identified and then treated. Sometimes the cause is something that the person doesn't even remember, so finding it can be quite hard.
Sorry to make that a wall of text, I just felt I had to say something. I hope I didn't offend Bcdub.

Re: What game are you playing? (3 years ago)
At the moment I'm playing BioShock 2 and I'm having such a ball with it. I didn't really get into the first one so when all the hype about BioShock 2 was happening I was like 'meh'. I ended up getting the game because I saw JB had it as a two for one deal and I'd had a random urge to play it. I had a play online and fell in love. I was just having lots of fun running around and then got my hands on the Big Daddy suit and well, I needed no more convincing. It's a breath of fresh air from a game like Modern Warfare 2.
Had a go of the single player campaign and so far I'm lovng it. Playing as a Big Daddy is really cool and an interesting way to go. The controls are relatively easy to grasp and the weapons are a whole lot of fun to use. Can't wait to get stuck into the rest of it tomorrow.

I finished Saints Row last night. Yes I know I'm 4 years behind the times in that sense but I was never interested in the game until recently when I just had a random urge to play it.
I wish I played it when it first came out. The game was amazing. I loved every minute of it. I honestly believe its a lot better than the GTA series because it just doesn't take itself that seriously, but still is a whole lot of fun. I got really attached to my character, and a lot of the 'Row' crew as well. It was a solid story with great gameplay, and a lot of funny moments too. 9 out of 10 for me.

The store took part in a nation-wide petition which recorded 89,210 signatures, about 4000 more than the “Work Choices” online petition in November 2005.
The Wendouree store collected 824 signatures in an eight week period making it one of the largest petition counts in regional Victoria.
Acting store manager Arron Gray said the shops results showed local residents were behind the campaign.
“It was really positive, a lot of people were very much for it,” Mr Gray said. “It helped put the issue out in front of parents and let them know how things are these days in that regard.”
Mr Gray also said staff had made a point to warn customers of games that might contain excessive violence or other warnings.
Director of PAL Game Network Games, the store’s online site, Roland Kulen said with recent support from Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor for an R18+ game rating, the campaign was gaining momentum.
“At this stage in campaign we have great news from the Commonwealth government of Australia,” Mr Kulen said.
“It will take time because we have a new Victorian government and potentially a new New South Wales government, but a significant hurdle has been overcome and the Wendouree store of 824 signatures played a big part in that.”
