They better get it out before Diablo III or they'll have no chance. I didn't play DS2, but really enjoyed DS1.
Unless they win the dice roll.
This was one of the very few games I actually completed last year, and it was the ONLY game that, as soon as I completed the main story I bought the DLC. To me, it just hit the sweet spot, well and truly enough to forgive the flaws.

Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised when I found the DLC was different - different controls, different abilities. I mean - sure, when you look at Pigsy in the main game you think he's got different skills but to see them to go extra mile and make you be able to do those things when you couldn't with Monkey, that's quite satisfying.

Exactly what I was going to say. Let's get it in there first.

This may be a stupid question - but hopefully someone can shed some light - All the display pictures of the Kinect setup show the system running on a TV high up (say eye level) one a wall, I don;t know about you, but my lcd hdtv sits on one of those low level display units, considerably positioned lowered than than in any kinect displays. This worries me.
The Kinect camera can be placed either above or below your TV and it will also self-adjust itself to suit the best viewing angle of the play space based on where it is placed.

The only think I'll mention there is that you might find that if you've got it below the TV and you have a coffee table between it and the player, it'll not be able to see your feet. Kinda obvious but worth mentioning.

I disagree. The Kinect alone costs as much as a Wii, and with a Wii you don't need to buy a 360 as well to plug it into. On top of that, the Wii has Mario Kart and an already huge back catalogue. I can't see the casuals flocking to Kinect, and it offers nothing to real gamers. I sense a semi-flop approaching.
That's a bit unfair. The RRP of the Wii is $299, and in order to play with others, you need to spend another $100 to get a Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Kinect essentially costs as much as one Wii Remote and Nunchuck, as you're getting Kinect Adventures packaged as well.
+1 and remember that Kinect can track multiple players. I will be buying a Move (coz I get everything) but I'm spluttering a little at the price and very unsure whether I'll buy more than one because of that.

How do you pause the game if there are no pause button?
There are a couple of ways - depends on the game designer and there are intended to be system-based gestures. Walking out of frame usually does it.

Hmmm, surely they would have noticed that people walking past in the background was causing interference and would have set up their room accordingly.
Not sure - I've been hands on too and had people walk past while playing games and it differentiated their movement from mine fine. It was only if they stopped to gawk and then moved within range that it occasionally picked them up as a second player.

Personally I would never get it as I would perfer to buy a wii at this point as it's got so many games except I don't want one.
I guess this is the thing for me - I haven't played my Wii for months - I'm happy with my 360 and PS3 stuff. But if I had a Kinect attached to my console and I could play my normal high quality games like MW2 and Halo Reach, and without having to do anything else, play something on the Kinect, that will be more likely for me to play it. I think. icon_smile.gif

Gee, it must be hard making up Pokemon names ...

Well, let's see ... Piplup ... Unless it's just me, that seems sort of made up. How did they make that one up? Or is it obvious to everyone bar me?

Brilliant! I've got the otter's name. Wotta. As in, "Wotta Otter!" And it sounds like water, too. Or how about Sliplup?
Change it slightly to Watta and you get an Electric-Water type Otter Pokemon.

(NZ site I know, but it has the OFLC sticker on it, and release date is Dec 2009 so is too late for anywhere else in the world)
Due out next month for PS2... lol

Although I've been asked about the tracklist - anyone know anything about what songs will be on this?
Regardless of how you look at it - $110 IS the full retail price. It doesn't matter how many retailers cut their margins to be attractive to shoppers - the RRP is $110.

One thing we DO have better than the US is how significant the discounts can be. In the US a "sale" will have half a dozen games at $5 cheaper than their own RRP.

That's why you always need to keep an eye on exchange rates and monitor both US and UK online stores as well as the discounted prices JB and others have - in any given week one will be significantly cheaper than another and then it'll switch around.

For a while there, with exchange rates, the rising of the average US RRP on games and the big "launch" discounts JB was giving, it was cheaper to buy from them than order from OS.

All that said - if the game is being RRPd in the US for only $40, then it IS being sold as a less-than-full-game price, as their RRP for major releases is now $49-59. But checking online, even EB is selling it here for only $78. So to me it seems likely that RRP on that game in Oz is probably not $110.

As far as I'm know, the DLC that's released for Rock Band each week isn't rated by the OFLC, which explains the Indie Games... But wouldn't it make the RBN songs likely to fall onto the same boat as the DLC? It seems slightly more logical that they haven't released it out for here because the game isn't released here- Try accessing the Rock Band Network store on your Australian account. Essentially crashes the game and puts on an endless loop of that main menu background.
I haven't tried with an Aussie account -will do.

But the way it was explained to me was that the RBN content is being released through the Indie Games Channel and XNA Creator Club - hence why they come out exclusively on Xbox first. But I'm happy for me to be wrong.

NOT happy that Oz still doesn't have RB2 or Indie Games, but happy for me to be wrongabout why RBN doesn't work here. icon_smile.gif
Eyce wrote
XNA Creator's Club only refers to the tools you need to use to create and review content for RBN.

It's not out in Australia because Rock Band 2 isn't released here and adding it would only benefit a very small population of players.

That being said, US Gamertag + US Points = icon_biggrin.gif

(I bought Ikea... great song)
Sorry but I don't believe that's not true. As others have mentioned, Harmonix used the XNA Creator Club as their basis for RBN and as such you must have the ability to obtain games through the Indie Channel of the marketplace. Since the Indie Channel is not available in Australia, Aussies are not able to get RBN stuff. It might well be that RB1 doesn't show RBN but that's not the technical reason for Aussies being unable to get to it. icon_smile.gif

You're right though about US Gamertag/points - I have done the same thing.

Harmonix stated that any songs that prove to be popular on the RBN would also be subsequently released on PS3. This will only happen for those songs that sell well but there isn't anything I know of that states what "popular" means.

+ International Exchange Rate (usually 2.9% of the payment).
Is this something Zavvi is charging on top of everything else or is this the charge a bank/CC company might add on when converting an international order?
That would be a charge applied by your bank for international currency exchange rate
Cool - thought that might be the case but wanted to be sure.

I always just mentally double the £ price which factors in shipping, charges, etc to get a quick approximation of the AUD amount and make my buying decision based on that.

Is this something Zavvi is charging on top of everything else or is this the charge a bank/CC company might add on when converting an international order?

For reference, I've checked a couple of orders I placed on TheHut recently and what I ultimately got charged on my credit card:

Order 1 -
total order including shipping as displayed by TheHut: £37.56
credit card statement displayed: £37.56 and AUD63.90
Current exchange rate puts £37.56 at AUD62.40

Order 2 -
total order including shipping as displayed by TheHut: £14.08
credit card statement displayed: £14.08 and AUD24.08
Current exchange rate puts £14.08 at AUD23.39

So, slightly higher but well within fluctuations in the exchange rate.

Obviously if Zavvi are now throwing an extra charge in there as well it reduces their value but I thought they were owned by TheHut?
For those interested, we also ran a research experiment on the Monday for a very small set of people where they got to look at the game and were monitored for their responses.

@jinxOZ is going to provide more info, but here's a sneak peek of some of the photos from the evening...

It appears that MightyApe's Xbox360 weekend sale hasn't quite finished yet so you could find a bargain or two there. Shipping from NZ is only a couple $ per item and takes less than a week.

[edit] and remember they're listed in NZ$ prices and exchange rate is pretty good at the moment.

I wish journalists would stop focusing on how many games have been banned. The number of games with inappropriate content for minors that ARE released every year far exceeds the numbers that get banned.

With an R rating, parents have a clear delinearation of what is acceptable to kids and what isn't and it makes the classification board's job a lot easier - well, this game is obvously R, bam.

Sign the petitions, make sure your voice is heard, keep fighting the fight for a proper democratic decison - which is something we have a chance at now rather than one guy who has blocked it for years on his own say so and personal opinion rather than having the backing of the general populace.

This has always been an argument of conscience. do we side with the adults whom wish to be treated as adults or do we side with "the children" whom we are protecting
Sorry Fly, but that's not accurate. For people like me, I want to be an adult and treated as such and I want "the children" protected properly. I believe an R rating helps us do both, and it's not an either/or issue.
1200 is way too much for a few maps with clunky implementation. For me and my son, that actually means we'd need to fork out close to $40 for us to play on our own Xboxes, so no go for us.

Thanks... will PM you in a little bit about it. Anyone else interested?
I manage the Game Design category of Imagine Cup and am forming up the judging panel for Round 2. There are 150 games that have progressed to this round, and we want every game judged by 3 judges each, so we need a good solid panel of judges to help us determine the top six who will then proceed to the world finals in Poland in July.

I thought having a couple of experienced gamers who were willing to help out would be an advantage, so putting a call out on my favourite site to see if anyone is interested in helping out.
