DEAD THREAD.
Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
You could seriously have a full time profession with a camera in hand. Love your work dude.
Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
I've got a 500, but as you've all said the quality on there sits between TOP SHELF and ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
It's definately intimidating. I only put up my very favorite shots and even then I always hesitate to post up due to the awe inspiring work by others on there.
Still... gotta start somewhere

Lighting a car is like the rabbit hole in wonderland. Soooooo much stuff.
If you're not planning on wasting tonnes of time on it the best and quickest answer is to shoot in natural light but do it between an hour before sunset til sunset. you'll get some amazing shots with natual light on a car during this time. the colours will come and play.
If you want to use some flashes, shoot bare. Don't waste your time on modifiers unless you've got a softbox thats car size (Read STUDIO).
I usually use 2 to 4 flashes for most strobed shots. unless I'm just trying to highlight something specific.
If you don't have that much fgear, put ur camera on a tripod. move the flash between shots. Stack them in shop later.
Something that took me a LONG time to learn, the best strobed shots are ones that don't really looked strobed at all. (which is way harder than it sounds)
this shot here, i would strobed from about 6 locations, but apart from a couple spots it looks like natural light.
good luck! and post up what you take so i can have a look

Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
depends on what style you want to achieve. i do both, and often apply both techniques to the same shot to try n get a unique look. start off with ah tripod, a flash and a set of comfortable shoes. s
softboxes on flashes around cars are more often then not a pain in the arse. bare flashes are where it's at.

ive miSSed your random but insanely clean shots alex! love the bird on the fence and the gull. it's just screaming for a speech bubble
JpRocker... those shots just above is about 90% in camera (across a couple of exposures) then i've layered the important parts over the top in shop. apart from that there's not much tinkering. (First shot I mirrored the background to reduce distractions) then minor colour level tweaks on both.
and one from yesterday... Gran Turismo: Real Spec

MX5's are perfect little track pigs on the weekend, and respectable little hair dresser cars through the week... luckily yours only comes out on weekends
Nice choice!
While i'm in here I should post up a couple updated shots of mine. It's had a bit of an overhaul since i posted my last couple of it...

Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
thanks
i had to ask around for this shoot. I've got heaps of JDM mates, but no one in my circles has exotics. I'm sort of mates with an importer and he's been bringing a few in. Going to shoot a black gallardo in a week or two
camera = nikon d90. I really need a full frame now though, i think I'm pushing my little beast about as far as it will go.
Also, might be doing a couple shoots for ADV1 in the near future. that'll be cool if it eventuates.

Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
just gotta keep practicing man. Painting is good fun. The best thing is that most people usually end up with their own look/style. Just try different stuff, and try to give each shot your own flavour.
Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)

Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
Removed the pole, a few colour/ contrast/ brightness adjustments.
Re: Post Your Photography (1 year ago)
nope and nope, but you're on the right track.
short version is, i hang the camera off the car via a long pole, move the car, shoot the car. get the shot.
if you're interested in more info search for rig shot. it's harder than most kinds of shots, and expensive/time consuming to get a good setup but the results are worth it
