Re: Skate 3 Review (3 years ago)
Yeah, that does indeed blow.

And even though Port Carverton is a lot of fun to skate in, I've had some problems with falling into geometry and various other terrain bugs. That and the online is unstable as hell, I can only get a game or 2 once every half hour... And even then it's in Hall of Meat where people are exploiting the hell out of the push-off mechanic...

Not gonna lie, feel bummed for preordering.
I have FINALLY caved in to my friends and bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare... Yes, I know everyone's playing MW2, but I'm cheap. icon_razz.gif

I blow chunks at FPS games, but hopefully I can hold my own.

Also, just dusted off Skate 1, going for full gamerscore to get 2500 total before Skate 3 comes in May (?)

t's like Mario cart only with real cars, It's great fun, I was very surprised how much fun it actually is. I was expecting some generic racing blah blah that is trying to compete with dirt/grid etc.
I also got this vibe from when I played the Blur beta. It was a lot of fun for me, especially with a full lobby of 20 players. Chaos when they bunch up in places like Docks and Barcelona.
Carmageddon... I remember it from my younger years indeed.

I played it again recently and thought to myself "This definitely wasn't right for me to play back then". Go figure.

EDIT: And like the writer of the article, I forgot to mention Mortal Kombat being a game that caused a stir indeed. Bowling for Columbine is all I need to say I think.
I'm definitely going to be checking this out when I come to Brisbane. Seems like an awesome idea... Shotgunning zombies and sipping a classy drink.
I better start learning Chinese then... We're pretty much there.
Re: Your newest purchase (3 years ago)

Re: Band Hero Review (3 years ago)
Pretty solid review right here... Actually, anyone remember Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s? This is that, mark II I think.

Still, dunno what would be a more worthy investment, either this, Lego Rock Band or just say screw it to the whole thing.
Re: DJ Hero Discussion (3 years ago)
Seeing as I got directed here, I may as well drop my review here too:

I've had enough time to dig through DJ Hero, so here is my review...

DJ Hero is the latest addition to Activision's widespread and highly successful "Hero" franchise, and they've decided to dip their fingers into hiphop, techno and house, which hasn't been fully explored by Guitar Hero or Rock Band, aside from Beastie Boys (And Aerosmith with Run DMC it you wanna stretch). Despite universal panning from critics on announcement, what has resulted is a fun game, and an entirely new concept that is well worth a look in for anyone who was curious, like myself.

Gameplay: The game comes with the controller you need to play DJ Hero to it's fullest; A DJ Hero turntable. With a DJ platter, crossfader, Euphoria button (basically Starpower for DJ Hero) and effects knob (GH's whammy bar, except it gives you points this time). With that, rewinds and the ability to skip all crossfades under Euphoria, the possibilities are endless. In my opinion, players will have more fun trying to fight for number 1, regardless of difficulty, than the latest Guitar Hero instalments, mostly due to it being a new method of play. This is not a game to go right to Expert to 5* everything on sightread like modern Guitar Hero either. Even if you feel confident after the tutorial and start on Hard, you will find yourself 2*ing and 3*ing later tier mixes (like "Groundhog" by NOISIA, juggled by Scratch Perverts), so there is plenty to keep you going long after mastering all the nuances of how the game works. In short; easy to pick up, hard to master. 8

Music: What makes or breaks a rhythm game, regardless of what instruments it contains, is its soundtrack. This is probably one of the most unique in modern times, featuring many artists that cover many genres, such as Queen, Rhianna, Billy Squier, Motörhead, Dizzee Rascal, Weezer, Gorillaz, Tiësto, Marvin Gaye and many more. All the tracks are mashups, meaning two songs are intertwined with each other. Some songs repeat 3 or 4 times, yet sound very different between each usage, which adds to staying power. And with pioneering DJs appearing (both as contributors, and in-game avatars) such as Daft Punk, DJ AM, Grandmaster Flash and DJ Shadow, just from name alone, these people know what they're doing. Regardless of what you're looking for, if you're a sucker for mashups, you'll definitely find a gem in the bag, and some mixes that surprise you. And with the the regular output of DLC, the sky is the limit when it comes to what genres can show up in DJ Hero... I still hold out for Fear Factory. >_> 9

User Interface: The gameplay interface is similar to Guitar Hero 5. Euphoria meter on the left, streak meter on the right, with the rewind symbol there too, and a score in the top right. That is not the biggest flaw with the game though, the biggest is in the main menus. They do look cool, with the idea of each set having a cover... But because the way to get around is not expressively outlined in either the manual or in-game, it is a big let down... It took me ages to find out you navigate sets with the crossfader going left and right, and navigate songlists with the effects knob. The DPad on top of the crossfader section is the way to go for navigation I think... It shouldn't have to be that way though. How things are meant to happen shouldn't be left to be discovered by accident either. 4

tl;dr The interface is confusing at first, but other than that the game is fun, very different, and very worth it if you can overlook the price tag. Or ask Santa for it if you're in the younger crowd.

So Fix Up, Look Sharp, and get your Robot Rock on. Give DJ Hero a chance, it will be bound to give you Satisfaction, in (Ace [Jack] of) Spades.

Hey everyone, I got asked to review DJ Hero for rhythm gaming site ScoreHero. I'm no English major by any means, so eh... Here is the original post there.

Guitar Hero 5 (with Van Halen offer) - $90.89 with postage from Play-Asia. icon_biggrin.gif
I bought that in September, and here's the second part of this:

Guitar Hero: Van Halen for the whopping price of... Nothing. icon_biggrin.gif I got postage shouted for me by an IRC room I frequent. Gotta love having e-friends. icon_razz.gif
Re: DJ Hero Review (3 years ago)
See, this is more of an incentive to at least give it a go... I did, and didn't regret dropping money for it.

It's basically Guitar Hero 1 & 2 all over again.
Wow, it's weird how much Tekken has evolved from the old days on the Playstation... But, for me, the game is still as fun as it was when I played with Yoshimitsu in Tekken when I was 6...

Well, no surprises... Except for 10th across all consoles, and DJ Hero's placing...

Next week will be interesting indeed.
I just picked this up... Am I the only one that thinks Bob can double for Phil Margera if you mod him right...

Plus I'm 15-1 with Hwoarang against the CPU... My nets aren't Live worthy yet. Plus HOLY HELL NANCY! YOU'RE A TOUGH LITTLE BUGGER!
Re: Your newest purchase (3 years ago)

Tekken 6 - 48.98 (inc postage) from eBay. SCOOOOORE!
...October, September... November gets no mention.

Did we go back a week?

Re: Your newest purchase (3 years ago)

DJ Hero - $50 after trade ins at EB... Purging games rules. And the game? Pretty fun so far.
Currently having a listen to Slayer's new album World Painted Blood. From what I hear thus far, it feels like a modern version of Seasons In The Abyss... But I think my opinion may change after a few more listens.
Re: Your newest purchase (3 years ago)
I'll edit with pics when I can be bothered... Anyway...

Brutal Legend - $110 from EB
A whole bunch of stuff from Big W (hat, some jeans, shirts and stuff) - $60
Stewie "Bloody Emo Kids" shirt - $20 from JayJays... I always feel less manly going in there, but I still buy their stuff. >_>
I see WCG Ultimate Gamer on my TV guide... Surprised, but kind of happy.
Rent, transfer, nab all the achievies, return...

Sounds like a plan.
