Re: Sony announces massive PS3 price drop (1 year ago)
Nice self-congratulatory pat on the back there, Sony. Maybe now you could work on the price gouging on PSN? No? No.
Re: UFC Undisputed 3's combat trailer (1 year ago)
I'm sure the rubber-band AI from 2010 will make an unwelcome return, coupled with the mandatory (and infuriating) lethargic pace of 'developing' new moves for your character's skill set.
If they want to garner more interest, they could start by revamping everything outside of the competition fights. Entrances and accompanying music/camp members would be a nice aesthetic touch.

Re: WWE Brawl trailer (1 year ago)
Awkward animation and last generation graphics make me wonder why this isn't a PS2 bargain bin release.
Re: Dreamcast Collection Review (2 years ago)
The major argument against this collecti0on (and a justified one) is that it's not even a true DREAMCAST collection. It's a batch of rushed Gamecube ports, games unplayable without their original gimmicks and SC5 part II.
No one was seriously expecting the entire back catalog of DC titles to be in one collection. But there should have been a nice half-dozen games, at least. All of which should have been proper replicas of the original DC versions.
Sonic Adventure
Crazy Taxi
Sega Rally 2
Any initial 2K sport title
Zombie Revenge
House Of The Dead 2
All earlier DC releases, all published by Sega. Hell throw in Chu Chu ROcket as an easter egg too. So easy, yet apparently impossible for the chowderheads at Sammy.. I mean, Sega.

Re: AFL Live trailer (2 years ago)
I don't mind that they're remixing the Sega Rally soundtrack for this blockbuster. Especially when they've managed to push such impressive graphics out of the Dreamcast!
Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2 Review (2 years ago)
Wow, they really ramped up the annoying anime traits for this one, didn't they? Suddenly I'm not so disappointed with the choice to downgrade the series to the PSP.
Re: Fire Pro-Wrestling announced (2 years ago)
Screw you Spike, for both your console exclusivity and the fact it got my hopes up for a successor to Fire Pro Returns. I don't want crappy midget avatar garbage, I want the hundreds of empty CAW slots and the gigantic roster of Japanese/American wrestlers and MMA fighters.
Next they'll be releasing King of Colosseum III with furries and Kinnect?Move.

Breaking new comedy boundaries there! When are you gonna talk about the food on airplanes and smash some fruit with a large, wooden mallet?
Had the coalition won, I could guarantee they'd shoehorn in someone as Attorney General who would also maintain an anti-R18+ stance and 'protect the children' rhetoric, to appease Family First and other special interest groups. Couple that with some potential for more classic tard moves such as the one-way expressway and privatising electricity, the election result and stepping down is possibly the best case scenario,. outside of all parties dissolving and candidates having to compete for seats on 'It's A Knockout!', of course.

Like Mass Effect 2, I think having a variety of accents lends better to fantasy worlds. Go Georgia!
And her primary weapon to be boomerang nunchucks.
"GAME OVER.. MATE"
Kotaku is pretty good, I enjoy that Tim guy and his mini novel length frustrated rants, about the not-so-great aspects of living in Japan.

Today I found my first grey hair. How exciting!
I bought a bunch of hardcore/punk 7"s online, which arrived today. One is from a band called Danny Glover with appropriately titled Lethal Weapon EP, another is an EP by TIGER UPPERCUT, entitled 'Til My Last F**kin' Quarter'
That made me smile.. and snicker.
Condescending, unfunny, trite and at times quite insulting. Slapping a reasonably attractive female into the host role doesn't fly, when you have her reading a garbage script. If Two And A Half Men, breakfast radio and TMZ all whacked off into a turkey baster and impregnated Today Tonight, The Aussie Source would be its little bundle of disappointment.
This is all hyperbole for comedic reason (or not), but seriously it's not very good. Is it actually fine champagne comedy enveloped in a brilliantly acted irony, or am I not alone in my sentiments?

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown announced (3 years ago)
I honestly 'feel' the impact of moves moreso in VF than in Tekken.
Perhaps it's the oldschool bashing sounds that have long been a stable in the series, or that I find the Tekken flash effects off every hit (and a few moves requiring great suspension of disbelief) off-putting. But I definitely feel like I'm playing a fighter with VF whereas with Tekken I feel I'm staging some nice choreography.

Re: Yakuza 3 to see release outside Japan (3 years ago)
Well, better three years late than never. I really hope this does well enough for Sega to justify a western release of 4, that isn't years after the initial Japanese date.
Also, I don't get the people who constantly bagged the graphics of this game. Seriously, it's pretty swank even for 2009 and those idiots must have been looking at screenshots of Yakuza 2.
Now, somebody convince 'em to drop a subtitled Kenzan on the shelves.

Re: Sound Test #5 (3 years ago)
I have to admit, the Tekken music over the years has been evolving and progressing in interesting directions. But truth be told, I still prefer the Virtua Fighter beats.
Re: Good Game co-host Junglist sacked (3 years ago)
I've never been a fan of 'gamer' shows in general, especially the Australian ones, ever since The Zone. The most lingering memories I have of that show are Sega Megazone bashing and silly in-jokes.
With a million (albeit over half are from angry, 14 year old douchebags) youtube vids, 'Lets Play *insert game*' sites, independent gaming sites and a bazillion other resources at our disposal, I just don't see their purpose.
Still, sucks for him to be booted out the government funded doors of ABC, in favour of a 'gamer grrl' to draw in a 'potential audience' that doesn't know/care about ABC2, let alone GG.

Re: R 18+ Classification Roundtable (3 years ago)
You can all rage back and forth with "Protect the children!" and "F*** the children!" for an eternity, for all I care. My problem is simply being an independent adult, with my own source of income, being told I have no right to view and experience what a child shouldn't.
Not everyone wants to swing a Wiimote to shuffle stumpy-limbed, lego men knock-offs. Not every gamer wants to fondle plastic guitars to corporate-rock bands with Flock Of Seagulls haircuts and Danzig combovers. On the flip side, not every person wants to troll a post-apocalyptic wasteland, strung out on irradiated mutant yogi bear meat, severing a merchant's head for giving you a smart-arsed remark.
But none of these games should be banned, when the gaming industry needs plenty of diversity and differing genres, to cater for the current (and future) generation of both finicky hardcore/casual gamers AND potential consumers. If you want kids to feel uneasy and reluctant to play titles with an R18 classification, whack all those titles into the same 'XXX HARDCORE' dens of social taboo, or prohibition speakeasies.
And why stop there, let's throw all that film and music with those naughty words and visually/verbally graphical depiction of sexual debauchery too. Don't forget anything that elicits anyone to question authority, pursue an alternative lifestyle, have conviction in their beliefs, or evil witchcraft or mythical beings. Finally, Billy Bragg thrown in the same pool as Skrewdriver, Twighlight will be frowned upon in the same vein as True Blood...
Just an idea, hear me out.. How about, instead of denying mature adults from spending their own money on their own tastes, to protect the children, why don't we focus on some other issues? Like parents more concerned about their plasma tel.. uh, I mean 'baby' bonus grant? Or better and more CURRENT sex education and alcohol/drug education in public schools?
But wait, we shouldn't do that either. Then they'll be aware, informed and educated about those issues. Nah, it would be much safer to hide these truths. That way, we can PROTECT our children..

Re: Love to Hate #2 (3 years ago)
I'm in the minority here, but I found Motorstorm dull as hell and wonder if we'll ever see a revival of Road Rash (The Mega Drive ones, I'd rather not acknowledge the 3DO release).
Re: ProMode #6 (3 years ago)
Some people should not use their shitty music taste for youtube videos, which don't fit the context whatsoever.
Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Review (3 years ago)
UFC Undisputed 2009 deserves an 8, not a 7.5. If not for the fact it does so much with so little, then for the fact it's the first GOOD UFC game since the days of the Dreamcast.
I'm not one to leave out criticism, either. The slow navigating of menus got under my skin, UFC 'ranking update' email spam which have to be opened/loaded and closed, before you can delete the damn things. Not to mention the lack of guys walking to the cage with their music blaring etc.
Issues like the lack of southpaw and long hair are simply a matter of time constraints and clippling issues. This is the first serious overhaul of the UFC games in ages, so expect a lot of the bitched about issues to be addressed in the sequel.
As for certain fighters being out of the game, they're going to focus more on the guys who are currently in or have spent a large amount of their recent career with the UFC. Couture signed his exclusivity rights away to EA. The game was in development well before Ortiz had another cry, so he's in the game. Ken and Frank Shamrock have been away from the UFC for a few years now, albeit not including Ken vs Tito.
If we're going to bitch about former UFC guys being missing, let's keep flogging a dead horse: Bas Rutten, Don Frye, Dan Severn, Kevin Randleman, Kazushi Sakuraba.. (UFC Japan 1 counts, if we're going by fanboy arguments) and so on and so on.

Re: Magnacarta 2 announced for Australia (3 years ago)
Considering the first Magnacarta was quite lacklustre (and the biggest case of gaming buyer's remorse I've ever had), I will not be losing any sleep over the exclusivity issue. Though to be honest, the only exclusive RPG's PS3 owner should be jealous of are Lost Odyssey and Star Ocean.
That's mainly for the fact LO has several Shadow Hearts elements (a PS2 series whose game developers contributed to LO), while Star Ocean was a prominent RPG on the PSOne/PS2 (although the first SO was on the SNES).
This is not an attack on the quality of 360 RPG's, but a statement of RPG's in general for this current generation of consoles. Most of them have been failry disappointing, to say the least. The haven for RPGs is still the last-gen PS2, especially if you like the Megami Tensen range.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 Review (4 years ago)
I'd be snapping this up quickly. But it took so damn long to come here, that I've already beaten the NTSC version into the ground and received the true ending.
I think the main difference between P3 and P4 is simply this. P3 was more unique (in the sense it came out first, duh) but also more linear. The game requires a bit of dedication routine/grind initially, to get the most enjoyment out of it. P4 on the other hand, absorbs you within the introduction and feels very polished and open in comparsion to it predecessor.
Those of you wanting to first play P3 or considering a second play-through, I strongly recommend Persona 3:FES. The battle/social mechanics are tightened up a little with a few more side bits added to the storyline. It also has The Answer: a hard as hell epilogue/follow-on from the original game which answers a few questions and opens up a whole new dilemma. It's also around 30 hours long and a rewarding ending.
Also, for those wondering. There's a new Shin Megami Tensei installment coming to the PS3, but there's not much known other than a tentative release date of sometime this year. In the meantime, Devil Summoner 2 is about to be released in the United States (this week, I think?) and is allegedly better than the PALgn panned previous title.
