Boss fights are usually very anti-climatic. I'm struggling to remember one that won me over. Castlevania Symphony of the Night had great boss fights actually, but that's my fav game of all time!
Not only was it hella fun to fight, each form providing new and interesting challenges, but each form represented a different evil of humanity.
First Form: Humanity's desire to take from others
Second Form: Humanity's desire to burn and destroy
Third Form: Humanity's desire to gamble with life
Fourth Form: Humanity's desire to use technology for harmful means
Final Form: The hand. Our hands. The tools needed to make humanity's desires possible
He's also a representation of technology versus nature.
It wasn't just the crazy fun fight, but also those underlying themes that completely took my breath away.

Picked up my guitar for the first time in nearly 3 years. Mate had just got one for his birthday, so it inspired me to go into the garage and dig out my dusty old fender. Stopped playing after I broke my arm, and even after I had healed I never went back, just forgot I guess.
Kind of assumed I would have been pretty fucking rusty, but picked it up and fell right back into it. Been jamming out some Floyd all day. So fucking happy.

Every Elder Scroll title post-Daggerfall (talking main series here, not adventures or legends).
Since Daggerfall we have seen skills, combat and lore completely slaughtered to make the games more accessible to the masses. I will say Morrowind isn't quite as bad as Oblivion and Skyrim in this regard, and it definitely had a certain charm, but I still fucking hated it.
Oblivion butchered the skill system, stream lined the combat to be essentially a hack 'n slash with skills having very little effect (in comparison to previous titles, at least). And when Skyrim took even more skills away and completely transformed the leveling system only one thing crossed my mind; The Elder Scrolls is officially dead.
Compare Daggerfall to Skyrim. They are complete opposites. One is a huge, fascinating world, with thrilling and immersive factions and an even better main quest. Deep, memorable NPC's. Character building was a delicate balance. Every skill counted and had to be chosen carefully, you could actually create a character that wouldn't work at all. And most of all, you could roleplay, the game offered you so many alternatives to the main route and gave the player a chance to make choices that truly suited the character they had made. The other is a shallow, oversimplified mess that took away all the charm of the previous titles to make money, and lots of it.
Bethesda, to me, are the biggest sellouts in gaming history.

Ha! Bioware criticizing others? Aren't they the ones who haven't released a single decent RPG in 7 odd years? How about they look at their own "Role Playing Games" before shooting down others.
Although I expect this kind of crap from Bioware, they think themselves RPG kings. Sorry Bioware, that crown was buried with Troika, so fuck off back to your hole.

Re: What game are you playing? (3 years ago)
Just a bit of inFAMOUS.
It's a decent game. Nice selection of skills to muck around with. I found the story compelling and liked the twist at the end. Though now I am finished with the story I'm finding the city a little empty, I would have thought a guy with electrical powers and a big open world would be more 'fun'.
I don't care about collecting trophies so I can't see much of a reason to play anymore. It was a good game, but the open world went to waste.

Shallow experience, boring, tedious quests, little in the way of equipment options and game content... Hardly sounds like a game that, after being reviewed over 150 times, would get itself an average score of 93%. As for the world leveling system, that is a valid complaint. If you are playing the PC version though, it's easily fixed with something like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.
A review is based on nothing more then the reviewers own opinion, so the 93% average score is nothing more then a number of people sharing the same opinion, most of which have little to no experience, I value the opinion of RPG maniacs (Boilerplate and Gibbers being perfect examples) then any of these so called experts who have little knowledge of gaming earlier then the 90's. And lets not forget all those reviews that gave Oblivion a well deserved beating, good job leaving those out of your post.

And yes, there is no mod to make Daggerfall look like Oblivion, which I am happy about, if there was, Daggerfall would lose a great deal of its charm.

When you view it based solely on it's own merits, unless you are into more casual mainstream games (I know of a couple of people who never really gave the game a chance beyond the dungeon escape because the game seemed too stat-orientated, boring and, you know, "elves and rats... wtf? where's my copy of halo?") Oblivion really is one of the best games to be released this decade.

Besides, from what I've read, you can pretty much get Oblivion to behave like Daggerfall through the use of mods. Unfortunately, you can't get Daggerfall to look like Oblivion.

I think Oblivion is one of those love-it-or-hate it games, and it seems that most people can only seem to enjoy either Morrowind or Oblivion and not both - I played Morrowind and personally thought it was a horrible game, I found it much too dull, ugly and overly complicated.. But there are people who will tell me its a hundred times better than Oblivion when actually Oblivion is one of my favourite games. lol, that's just something that amuses me
and its strange because they're both from the same series too.
Oblivion was definately dumbed down I think, that's for sure. However I think for some people, that dumbing down made the game much more accessible and easier to pick up and get into, which is why I loved it so much because I don't like it when games are too complicated.
I think a lot of games are becoming more accessible now, because as someone who is very new to gaming, when I play older games I find them really difficult to get into because they are tooo complicated. Especially PC games!

The dumbing down you are talking about is why I think games have gone downhill in the past decade. All looks, no substance. Like having an 18 year old hottie as a girlfriend, but realizing her mum offers a much more enjoyable experience....don't read into that too much.
Re: What were they thinking!? (3 years ago)
Pretty much all of Oblivion. My main gripe with the game was taking the elder scrolls lore, chewing it up, spitting it out, and sticking it up the arse of the nearest long time elder scrolls fan. Thanks Bethesda.
But the Oblivion realm itself also pissed me off to no end. So many books in earlier games depicting many wonderful and interesting realms, and what do we get? Lava, and lots of it. Then the skill point system that a chimp could solve. What happened to the complex system that actually required a certain degree of strategy and mathematics?
And I had a warrior who was the guild master for the mages guild. You may say I didn't have to do the mages guild, but with only 4 fucking guilds in the game, I had to keep myself busy somehow.

Gonna be hard to pick 10 games over the past decade. But I shall try.
1. Temple of Elemental Evil
2. Okami
3. Wizardry 8
4. No One Lives Forever 2
5. Ico
6. Killer7
8. Metroid Prime
9. Zelda Wind Waker
10. Portal
I was about to put Planescape in there, but it was released just over 2 weeks before January 1st 2000, should have been a Jan 1st 2000 launch, god knows it would have started the decade off incredibly well.
EDIT: And why is there no "Nothing matches the 80's?"
Re: 2009's Game of the Year - As voted by you (3 years ago)
Persona 4
Bayonetta
Batman Arkham Asylum
Dishwasher: Dead Samurai
Metroid Trilogy (Assuming it counts)
And although there were HUGE releases that were good, these are all I can think of that I would like to see grab the title.

Taz was happy to see me, and I think Henry was too, its hard to tell as he doesn't like revealing his emotions. But I took his neck crushing as a sign of love.

Re: General Anime Thread - See updated first post. (3 years ago)
I actually didn't enjoy Getbackers that much, but I felt it deserved a mention at pulling off a pretty decent dub.
I prefer the Champloo sub myself. And for me, I can't stand Evangelion, it just comes across as overly melodramatic and pretentious, with a nice helping of unlikeable characters, so dub or sub is irrelevant to me.
I better be careful here, talking down about Evangelion in an Anime thread, this could get me seriously hurt.

Re: WoW Noob Help (3 years ago)
Don't go Night Elf Druid, go Tauren Druid. It depends, do you want to be a skinny little night elf who fights for the side of pussies with their colorful flowers and trees? Or a giant Bison who smashes everything up in his barren environment and who fights for the only side worth giving a damn about, the Horde?
I have 2 characters, ones a druid Tauren and the other an Orc warrior, but I haven't played in a LONG time, mostly due to boredom. The only thing going for WoW is a slightly entertaining PvP, everything else was just so bland, I lost interest very quick.

Re: Wireless Router causing headaches? (3 years ago)
It is actually quite common, though they cannot be entirely sure it is the wireless networks. People who are sensitive to these things can get headaches, insomnia and even rashes on their skin. Some people also believe it causes loud ringings in the ear.
I am far too strong and manly to fall victim to such things.

The UK version case has an unusual stench of Lager and the game ends quicker.
