I'd like to quickly interrupt here with an article about the NBN. It actually extrapolates some of the key benefits of the NBN in a way that makes Stephen Conroy sound like a screaming chimpanzee hurling feacies at tourists. If you are interested, be warned, you are in for an epic read!

Only way I see the forums going back to normal would be to remove all these culprit threads . Having them stuck on the top of the forums only serves to provoke anger. Also mods are now questioning there powers since roland personally attacked their ability. So yeah unless the forums are cleaned up alot more hatred is to come .

I am sad. You have been an asset to this committee and I have held nothing but the highest respect for you.
I wish you all the best, and I hope you find what you need to feel better.
Hopefully we'll see you again.

Roland, I emplore you to take some advice from your own yes man and stop provoking the community. If you are going to open dialog make it constructive or piss off.

Secondly, your one sided moderation disgusts me. Although the offending messages from falcon have now been deleted or modified, his use of inappropriate language, which could be described as nothing less than a racial slur, combative personal attacks and persistent violation of community standards have been no better than the behavior of FeralOni.
For a PR Manager, your inability to manage conflict resolution really astounds me.

I'd like to wish Jason and the other guy the best, building a new site from scratch is no mean feat and unless you're being paid to build the new website nine to five, or you're happy to give up every moment of free time you have, I don't see anything happening for a long while (Assuming you're just stating now).
Roland, take me off the mailing list immediately and good luck finding competent contributors in the future. There was a lot of goodwill out there for the website and put simply, you blew it.

Peters of Kensington are pretty great to deal with, though they generally have brand name homewares so they might not be exactly what you are looking for to start up a place. Personally though, I think a quality set of knives are a must and well worth the money.

Haha. Sunrise claimed this morning that Steve Jobs created the world's first personal computer, the Apple Macintosh. Then proceeded to liken him to Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and such because of this great invention...
Someone really didn't read up on their history very well. Not only was it far from Apple's first computer (they had half a dozen in the eight years prior), it wasn't a sole point of shining brilliance. Apple's first computers were preceded by a whole wave of larger computers, smaller hobbist computers and a raft of very similar micro/personal computers. It'd be like if Ford invented the personal car, if semitrailers were around 40 years earlier and Holden, Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc all released personal cars around (and before) the time of the first Ford =)

^Do a google search for "Steve Jobs Cancer" and set a custom date range to 2004-2005. It was no secret,
He did well to survive as long as he did. Only 4.4% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive 5 years or more.
Google is all about engineers, they make stuff and if you use it that's a bonus.
Steve Jobs was a truly remarkable human being. When I was at Uni I had to write an essay on him for one of my business units and I was absolutely blown away by what he had accomplished. Sure he had his faults, who doesn't, and love or loath him there is no escaping the fact that he has left a definite impression on our world. His contributions to technology, design, media, retail will live on long after the iPhones popularity begins to dwindle.
For those doubting his contributions to Apple products, his name appears on some 300+ patents (sure he probably didn't develop every single one of those on his own without help, I'm not brainwashed, but the evidence doesn't specify how great his contribution to each one was) and it's well documented that every design that comes out of Apple, from the latest iPod to a bus stop advertisement for the iPhone was personally approved by Jobs himself.
Anyway, I don't want to get all long winded and boring so I'll finish with a link to the best 'Steve Story' I have seen today. It's written by Brian Lam (the Gizmodo guy at the centre of the lost iPhone scandal).

I had a very rare form of pancreatic cancer called an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor, which represents about 1% of the total cases of pancreatic cancer diagnosed each year, and can be cured by surgical removal if diagnosed in time (mine was). I will not require any chemotherapy or radiation treatments."

I'm legitimately amazed that Google has that voice stuff, just because I've never heard a thing about it (not that I really pay attention to phone stuff). And I'll be amazed if Apple's version isn't better both because it's Apple and because Google's has been around so long now.
Google really needs better marketing.

Re: Contract Question (1 year ago)
They are, but the brand amalgamation has been stepping up and new customers are no longer able to sign up for 3 contracts, existing customers are being encouraged to switch.
Re: Need a new Phone, Android vs Mango (1 year ago)
1) Yes, thank goodness modern phones will now work without a sim card inserted.
2) yes, don't limit yourself to 'ipad plans' though all our carriers offer a range contract and prepaid data only options. I have no idea how these will run in a phone though so shop around and do your homework.
3) I love my android (Nexus S) and I'm really looking forward to the Ice Cream Sandwich update but it's not for everyone. My recommendation would be to head down to your local telstra/optus/jb and have a play around with Android and WP7 and get a feel for each one and make a decision on what you like that way.
4) Each manufacturer has their own pros and cons, samsung and htc are both delivering good quality devices for both Android and WP7, Sony Ericsson make some absolutely fantastic Android hardware.

No it runs Android. If you're not desperate for a new phone and you have your heart set on a Windows phone device I'd wait at least a month or so as 2nd gen WP7 devices should start to unveil themselves as microsoft finalises the imminent 'mango' update.
Give-away: 2 Borderlands DLC Packs (1 year ago)
I have 2 Borderlands DLC codes to give away. Both codes will give you access to all 4 DLC packs.
If you would like one, then say something and I will note your interest. I'll pick 2 people out at random and PM them the codes.

You want a Windows Phone 7 handset if you are looking for the actual, official integrated xbox live app. If you just want to check your gamer score, friends etc. there are a number of 3rd party apps available for both iOS and Android.
Here are lists of devices running windows phone 7.

Re: Quantic Dream Unhappy With 2nd Hand Market (1 year ago)
Devs should give away their DLC to anyone that buys the game in the first week/shipment. Surely that is more appealing than most of the pre-order/LTD ED garbage that gets handed out. I know that if I knew I was going to get free ongoing updates I'd be more willing to buy the game early and I'd be less likely to trade it in early.
It's important to remember as well that retailers make a lot of money on preowned sales, especially EB/Game whose business model is built around trade ins. What would happen to them if you took that away? And what would then happen to the sales of these niche games without a dedicated store to market/hype/sell them?

Re: Rumour: New Fire Emblem Games for the 3DS (1 year ago)
Here's the trailer from the announcement during the week. YAY!!!
Who is optimistic about localisation? Personally I think we'll at least see an EU version which we can import based on the fact most fire emblem games have released at some point with a local version. We'll see how hard Nintendo wants to work for sales though.

Re: Nintendo's 2011 September Conference (1 year ago)
Well in that case you'll just have to hope that amidst this aggressive push from Nintendo the tail of the organisation (Nintendo Australia) wags at least once.

So, nintendo is making first party titles for Japan. Capcom has come on board with a monster hunter & peripheral support and neither is due to 2012 (in Japan) with other 3rd party titles cancelled or postponed (tales of abyss is rumoured to have jumped). So why should us (region locked - and missing out on titles as a result - such as DS:overclocked released recently) PAL gamers care?
