Re: One Questions (1 year ago)
I haven't hunted for a casual job in years, and I'm sure its changed since then, with the internet probably taking a much greater involvement.

For the larger corporations/franchises (Kmart, Target, Maccas, KFC, Subway etc) I would suggest jumping on their websites. My girlfriends younger brother went job hunting, in terms of going into stores, a while ago and they just directed him to the website, nothing they could do in the store.

For small business type places, going in or a quick phone call would probably be a good option though.
PS3 Fifa 2012 for $69 at JB, getting on that!
Visits to JB yesterday and Thursday netted the following:

Purchased the iPod to go in the car (hence the cord), Skyrim cause it's awesome and The Other Guys on a recommendation from a work mate. The missus has been going out walking most mornings also so I picked up the shuffle for her. She wanted me to get one of those armbands for her iPhone but I thought the shuffle would be way more manageable and help her to not look ridiculous... Amazingly the iPod is the first dedicated MP3 player I've ever owned, basically just want to avoid having 80 CD's floating around the car and so far so good.

Now for the big purchase, picked this up Friday:

Holden VE Calais-V. We've had just one car between us over the last few months to save a bit of cash but a a couple of good things have come off at work so time to get another one. Absolute perfect family car for us. 2010 model, 6L V8, 6sp auto, leather, in roof DVD player. Drives beautifully and plenty of power. We're doing a trip down to Vic and SA over Christmas so will make that trip so much nicer.

I like that it is reasonably understated on the outside but absolutely beautiful on the inside and a dream to drive. Absolutely loving this car!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Also picked up a few games on steam lately, NBA2K12, Amnesia, Bioshock, GTA pack, GRID, Batman AA and probably a couple others.

Now to tone the spending down a bit prior to Christmas....
Anyone with an idea of how 3G will work, which carriers, pricing etc? I assume something along the lines of how iPad 3g works, but I have no idea about that....
Grand Final Day!!!!!!!!!
Re: Funny Links (1 year ago)
My cousin's just been to Thailand and posted this on her Facebook:

Wish I was a teenager and in Bangkok right now
Just bought 2 x tickets to Cold Chisel for me and my partner!!!

Can't wait and I'm so stoked they're coming to the Sunshine Coast so I don't have to trek it down to Brisbane. It's also good to get tickets to something and the show be only a few months away, rather than like 8 or 10 or over a year....

Can't wait!!!!!!
Done. Thanks Jarrod (and others) for the recommendation!
Was gonna post this yesterday but couldn't get on here:

'Dad, I dug another hole, it's filling with water...'
Where can I sign up for that connection??? Surely this is the internets of the future....

As alot of people seemingly are (and as if you wouldn't seeing as how awesome the show is), I am just making a start on the first A Song of Fire and Ice book: A Game of Thrones. Not real far through it as yet but certainly enjoying it. So far, basically just the same as the TV show but obviously way more in depth with character and plot development.
Off topic, but I haven't watched the show yet at all. I don't have Pay TV, and I don't like downloading shows, I always have problems with them, as well as bandwidth issues.

EDIT: I plan to pick it up if it's ever on DVD/BluRay.
I've been tossing up whether to plow on through the rest of the books after this one or watch the TV series first... Pros and cons for both ways in my opinion. I think once I finish this one I won't be able to stop myself in any case.

I definitely recommend the show, whilst I'm sure it's not a 100% perfect representation of the books, it's as good as you could hope for of a small screen imagining of any fantasy series.

Also, just finished reading Dracula. Very different reading a book that's over a hundred years old, but this holds up pretty well and I quite enjoyed it. Interesting way the book is written, it is a collection of journal/diary entries (from all the characters, barring Dracula really) and newspaper articles etc. Recommended for people who haven't read it but interested in historical literary works (or something like that). Also, I guess it's a must read if you're into all the vampire stuff (I'm not normally, apart from Buffy and True Blood) in that it's the book that started it all, and you can really see the influence that it has had. The only complaint I would have is it's reasonably slow paced in parts, but not overly so....

(oh and all read on my new kindle, loving this thing!!!)

there's a movie about an evil killer pinata. This is a real thing that exists. It's called Pinata: Survival Island

It also has the blonde chick from my name is earl in it.
Wow. It seemingly also has Nicholas Brendon from Buffy in it too....
Currently playing a few games (verrrry short attention span here...): Mass Effect, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Terraria and Borderlands mainly, a couple of others also but mainly these ones.

Really enjoying Mass Effect, I originally had it on X360 but didn't get all the way through it. Now playing on PC, shooters are sooo much easier on PC. The story component is definitely it's strong point.

HOMM 5: not much needs to be said here, I've been a fan of the series seemingly forever and this one continues on in the same formula and is really quite good imo.

Terraria: A very different style of game to what I am used to. I could imagine spending a great deal of time on this (if I had the time...). Enjoyed it so far but I think it's the kind of game you need to invest a lot of time into to see the reward.

Borderlands: This game is amazing. I'm normally not a big shooter fan but the questing and looting elements of this game sit really well with me. This is one that I think I definitely will sink a lot of time into. Love the art style as well.

Also, I've picked up the X-Superbox of Steam (all the X1, X2, X3 space sim games), can anyone give me a recommendation on where to start? Do the older ones hold up at all or should I just go to the most recent one???
My purchases over the last month or so...

For my Birthday at the start of the month, from my partner and son (money came out of my bank account though, so it's still technically a purchase...):

What have we here?

Oh, it's a Kindle. Got the 3g model and also the Amazon case which has a little light, the case is really good and I would recommend it. The light is powered by the Kindle so no need to muck around with batteries and such, just sucks the juice out of the kindle a bit quicker... About $260 all up.

More recently (i.e. Wednesday), got myself a new bike to start getting fit again:

Bike was $999, all up with all the bits and bobs (helmet, shoes, pump etc) was just a touch over $1500. Got a reasonable deal on it (imo) as the new models are about to come in... But nothing has really changed with the new ones except colour so...

Had my first decent ride yesterday (about 25km) and really enjoyed it!

Also have taken advantage of the Steam sales over the past week and a bit:

X-Superbox (includes X, X2, X3 ) - $9.99US
Beat Hazard - $2.49US
Trine - $1.99US
Heroes of Might and Magic 5 - $2.49US
Star Wars: KOTOR - $2.50US
Borderlands GOTY - $7.50US

And also just before the sales:

Terraria - $9.99US
Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 - $9.99US
Had my annual review and got a nice payrise!!!
I have the ring of the office phones in the TV show 24 as mine... Makes me fell all badass and Jack Bauer like....

That the saxophone is on a mild solo comeback at the moment.

Heard it on Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Bon Ivers new albums.

I haven't heard a good sax solo since Never Tear Us Apart.
Apparently the sax stuff on Lady Gaga's new album is by the late, great Clarence Clemons, a member of The Boss' E-Street Band.

He was an absolute legend, Rest in Peace 'The Big Man'....
Fair enough...

8/10 for Johnny Cash, can't go wrong with Cash.

9.5/10 for Layla. I agree with you, the rockier (stemming from the original version of the song he recorder as Derek and the Dominoes) version is definitely a step (or three) above the unplugged version. One of my favourite songs of all time.

Introducing Frank Turner:

I don't listen to a lot of newer music (stuck in a bit of a 60's/70's timewarp) but my mate introduced me to this guy and I love him. Missed out on seeing him in Brissy a couple of months ago but apparently he was awesome (covered Bruce Springsteen too, which I would've loved).
Re: Your newest purchase (2 years ago)
Picked these two up today from JB, in their 2 for $30 sale.

Inglourious Basterds - Basically because it's Tarantino and for some reason I hadn't picked it up/seen it yet, and Tarantino is awesome!

The Crazies - Recently watched Justified so was interested to see Timothy Olyphant in something else. Was a bit reluctant at first as it sort of seemed like one of those dodge straight to DVD movies... A quick check of Wiki showed that it received both critical and box-office success so that sold me.

Loving that BD's are seemingly getting much lower in cost these days! (I guess it was only a matter of time, but still)
Looks awesome!!!

Haven't played LBP at all to date (only have a 360 and PC) but definitely keen to give this one a go when it is out.

The Vita is looking pretty top notch imo...
I thought that was quite a good trailer. Not necessarily for showcasing the quality of the game, but for showing the control functionality with the Vita.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these later in the year!
Re: Funny Links (2 years ago)
About 10 seconds of that and I think I now have mild brain damage..

I second that, WTF???

My yearly performance review, I am extremely super happy.

Half-yearly one - I was a let-down, had potential that isn't shown, "slipping away", I was hired to be one of the best (because of my test result during recruitment) but had not shown it.

Yearly one - improved so much since last review I have became the best graduate developer.

*waits for a payrise*
I had a performance review the other day... actually I caught wind that it was coming up so I obtained a copy of the performance review sheets myself and filled out a review of my manager.

So when my manager took me aside for the big meeting and told me how much she hated me, I placed my own performance review on the table and told her how much I hated her. Was great.

(My manager and I are pretty much at war with each other)
Now what you need to do is give it to her manager as well!

I had a similar situation at work a couple of years ago, and now I have pretty much circumvented him (used to be 2IC) into the Office Manager's position.

Apologies for getting my brag on, but I really haven't done it since it all happened, and extremely stoked with it!!! icon_biggrin.gif
Does this mean I should list my entrepreneurial ownership too?

4.1 * 10^-8 of one of the world's largest tech companies

(Not that I want to take away from your partial ownership of the firm - that's awesome)
For sure! Entrepreneur/business owner is a profession in my book...

Loving how the name of this thread mysteriously changed!!!
Yeah I tend to agree, think it will be the initial one too. I really don't like that romantic connection either, maybe I just don't like romance at all.... Better not tell my fiance that.... I would much prefer if it was the newer flame though, just don't think that person could/would be bought in as a full time/recurring character.
