There has always been the temptation to import Shining Force 3 parts 2 and 3. It will happen one day.
The thing that should be mentioned as well is that videos of the psp online look a lot worse than they do on the console due to the size.

First time I watched a video of Dissidia I thought it looked terrible but it actually looks quite awesome.

If you wanted 2d only though I'd stick to the DS.

And yeah I'd agree with Kyle that Tales of Vesperia and add Valkyria Chronicles & Lost Odyssey (and the Yakuza games if you count them).
That's less than one per year for the console's lifecycle. Depressing.
I do agree with Pagan, the DS does have a lot of niche titles. I've noticed that it is king for dungeon crawlers (EO series, Dark Spire, Strange Journey etc) and 16-bit likes or remakes (DQ, FF).

PSP on the other hand is starting to make a name for itself with 3d rpgs and some beefy SRPGs.

That's just my experience though.

So anyone played T3b or Dissisia 2 (whatever it is called). I've heard bad things about T3b...
@cyph: About a year ago I would have said the DS is the one to go for but in the last year the games for the PSP have been phenomenal. Four out of five of the best games I played last year were on the PSP and this year it feels like it will go the same way (and the one non PSP game will have 'Yakuza' in the title again).

The DS has some amazing games and probably more quality RPGs (numerically) but some of the PSP games are just so huge and feel like they have a real weight behind them.
Some of the games really feel like they are picking up where the PS2 RPGs left off.

This isn't to bad mouth the DS or anything, I just felt that the DS RPGs went off in one direction and the PSP RPGs went in another. Each person will have the type they prefer... or love both icon_smile.gif
I'll agree with Persona 3&4, Deus Ex and Shenmue (II... no dreamcast icon_sad.gif )

Also I'll chuck in Yakuza 3, in particular Okinawa. That place felt real (aside from actually being real). I would just walk around looking in shop stores, very relaxing. Also the world felt like it was progressing, mainly because most of the mini games (Golf, Bowling etc) would actually have some quests attached.
You'd just be taking a few swings at the batting cage and someone would come in and challenge you for the rights on a tv show or something. Made the mini games feel much more purposeful.

System Shock 2 also felt like it took place on a ship, not a series of levels. Scary as hell but felt very real.

Monster Hunter Tri - After 70 or so hours, the singleplayer one screen village felt real. Each character had a new thing to say about everything that happened in the game. Really served no purpose for the gameplay outside of being awesome.
Was about to complain no one mentioned Jeanne D'arc, but Dlioscute mentioned it.

Still, for shame everyone else.
Re: General conversation (2 years ago)
I've noticed that with Subway too, I think it is something about the bread. I'm not a big guy but I can have a whole sub and an hour later feel like I haven't eaten.

One of those Good to Go things fill me up though.
The WKC 1 that comes with 2 also is meant to have a revised (more enjoyable, faster) battle system. I would wait though that's just me.
Tactics Ogre was the first SRPG in a while that I totally loved (wasn't a fan of FFT... maybe because of the PSP port). It isn't hard (there are a few points that are annoying but not many) though I wouldn't recommend it if it was your first SRPG.
For that I'd recommend Jeanne D'arc or Shining Force.

TO felt to me like one of those games that is so good that it would be fun for people who usually didn't like the genre. It's one of those milestones, kind of like how people can hate westerns but everyone loves The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. That could just be my biased opinion talking though.
I don't know what game we are talking about but I always thought it was 'Psych!'

Games need more 80's slang... like 'Tubular'......................................................................... God I hated the 80's.
Is there a fan preference on which is better? Black or white?

It's just the dudes you get that are different right?

But, when you go out on placements and actually start teaching classes, you won't have enough time to breathe, let alone game. Your career path isn't very compatible with free time, especially for the first year or so after graduation. Teachers work very hard.
Don't scare the guy too much icon_smile.gif Don't worry, you'll learn to walk before you run. Like anything, education is a very broad field, and you are still at the start of your degree. There are many options that will become available, some for those who want to push the envelope and some for those who want to balance life as well. Part time and casual placements exist for a reason.

As for the workload, I don't know much about your field but in my experience just about every degree (with a few exceptions) has a fairly equal workload after graduation. Each field also has it's own stressors that are unique, but also has things that are easier than in other fields. It's a lot of work, but you won't be losing sleep or anything icon_smile.gif.

I don't think you can pull that off if you're in the Big 5 universities :/
You totally can icon_smile.gif
Depends mainly on the subject.
Don't let us scare you though, you will have time to still game. Back in the dark ages when I was in first year the only study I really did was to go to class and speed read on the train. You'll eventually develop a feel for what is needed and more importantly, what you want out of the course.

These days I only do about 6-7 hours per week because I've developed an illness but a if you are a normal full-time student, if you do pull the ten hours per subject per week (which includes everything you do for the subject), it should work out at 8 hours per day (over a 5 day work week).

8 hours study, 8 hours rest, 8 hours leisure time.

That's what our unions fought for back in the day, your quality grinding time.

Also there are insane holidays.
Don't let us overwhelm you though. A lot of people drop out because they feel overwhelmed and those assessment dates look sooo close together.

There is always enough time though, and if not, drop down to part time, not rushing and finishing is better than rushing and not. That advice will hopefully allow you to circumvent the panic attacks I developed icon_razz.gif
edit: I babbled on too long. Basically as long as you do 8-10 hours of study per week (inc. contact) and are genuinely interested in the material you'll be in the top ten percent. That leaves a few hours per day for gaming.

Though you will be in trouble if you get a girlfriend.
I was about to say that I was suprised that Deakin University was in NSW, then I realized that Melbourne has a Burwood too.
Come on Australia, come up with more suburb names.
So... Tactics Ogre huh...
Out in a few days, looks pretty similar to FFT and I've been hearing amazing things about it. Anyone else interested in it?

Also, is DQVI even coming out here?
There is also a difference between Sydney (CBD) and Sydney as a entire area. It's pretty varied.
I do like parts of Sydney but I've noticed that people in Sydney seem to be a lot more aggressive these days, it's only one in a hundred people or so but it sticks out.

I guess I can't really judge though I've only lived one other place and it was in China, the town I was in was quaint.
Unfortunately there are only about three RPGs on the PS3 I'd actually say were worth buying unless you are really prepared to look over some big issues. Thank god for portables.

I don't have a PSP so I have to use my imagination in regards to what happens in VC. icon_sad.gif It's a shame that the PS3 doesn't get the same amount of RPG love as the PSP, especially considering how the PS2 was the RPG king.
I think we'll start to see more over time. There's a lot more PSPs out there than PS3s and it's much cheaper to develop for. RPGs are a bit riskier than say an FPS or action game to develop and market, so a lot of developers are trying to give theirs the best chance of success by keeping the cost down and reaching the biggest audience they can. As we see more PS3 consoles get sold, I think we'll see more being developed for PS3, hopefully development costs will go down a little as well.
As completely bizarre as it sounds in a country where major retailers hide PSP games in dark corners and scoff at those who buy them, PSP is pretty much the only thing I play anymore.
About a year after the NGP is released I think there will be a significant drop off in RPGs for both playstation portables (due to the psp 'expiring' and insane development costs of the NGP) and RPGs might shift to consoles... but probably more likely 3DS.
Re: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (2 years ago)
edit: I think it was some kind of weird in joke.

Edit 2: By challenge mode I was thinking more in line with Soul calibur 1&2. Defeat 10 enemies in 4 mins using soul charge type stuff.

Anyway it does seem really good. Should be able to keep the community going for another ten years, though hopefully we won't have to wait that long icon_smile.gif
Re: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (2 years ago)
I think the best thing about the menu screen is that the capcom and marvel characters in the centre seem to match up a little bit. Zero's helmut mirrors skrull's ears. Haggar and Hulk both have that rock face going on.

So how does the mission mode work? Is it like SSFIV where it is just 'pull off this move' or more akin to Soul Calibur 1/ Melee where it is a specific fight challenge (eg. beat the x-men in under 60 seconds using only 1 character)?
It's just like SSF4 with combos to practice and ****.
Bah humbug, I feel like that is the one thing that is holding Capcom fighters back from reaching true superstar level (like Halo sales level... not that I like that series). Something to keep the singleplayer coming back. I mean I am going to love it regardless and I'm sure the high end players scoff at the thought but Capcom really needs to put something in.
We could all do without a Tekken 6 type mode but something like Soul calibur 1&2 would do really well.

Also Tidus and Vaan... and it seems like Lightning is SE's mascot now.

I was just watching a trailer of Tactics Ogre and noticed that you can play the game in a 2d overhead view (ala Shining Force). Now that is awesome!
Impractical yes, but still awesome.
whoa, how long was your play through?
That's an awesome list. The only one I haven't played is Vandal Hearts (though I did play the second and it was garbage).

Stella Deus was good gameplay wise too, just couldn't take it seriously because the villian's name was Dignus, which is a letter swap away from Dingus.
I wasn't a big fan of FFT (or Disgaea) either but Ogre looks quite cool and seems to function differently from what I played at a friends many years ago.
It is still isometric and has a similar art style though.

Out of curiosity, what are your favourite SPRGs?
I agree that this is unnecessary however from what I've read this isn't being done by 343 but instead by Saber Interactive.
I'm not a fan of remakes but if they happen then I prefer it to be done this way, with the main team working on a new game.
They are just a pretty vocal minority. I get the feeling there are a subset out there who feel like they have to justify why they don't want to play the game so they go on like this.
