My RB2 pedal, which comes with a metal plate screwed into the top surface, died a few weeks back. It cracked straight through the plastic and metal close to the hinge. Oh well, I got about 9 months use out of it.

For a replacement I decided on modding a HansenFutz practice pedal. Got it for around $60 on ebay from an Oz seller. A good quality pedal costs quite a bit, so I settled for the best practice pedal there is. Easy to mod, seems quite strong, light, quiet and I can put it under my desk and practice / exercise while I work icon_smile.gif
The Rock Band drum layout is more suitable to gameplay - disco beats on the GHWT drums just don't feel right. The GHWT drum layout isn't so great for Rock Band, but I have no problem vice versa.

If you're on a budget I would suggest an RB1 drum kit, otherwise the Beatles kit contains the superior (and much quieter) RB2 drums.
My tastes lean toward pop / blues / early rock and not so much into metal, so I'm going to recommend the Boston track pack, and if you want a challenge go and grab yourself some Rush.

I wish they'd get some R&B in the DLC already... It can't be too far off now that they've done a country track pack.

Very long time ago but it think it was Boulderdash on the C64
Love that game! All levels on all difficulties is a pretty massive task, especially in one sitting. It's the sort of game that is due for a good rehash on current consoles. Just add updated HD graphics, a decent save system and build in the construction kit for 'net based level sharing...

When I looked in the PSN store (as opposed to the RBstore) for songs - STILL ALIVE wasn't listed. icon_sad.gif
Make yourself a UK psn account to download portal and vesuvius.

As for singing...I still haven't mastered it yet. I am fine on beginner, but I can not beat ANY songs on easy unless I cheat and just make a humming cat noise the entire time (get like 85% that way) which is no fun for anyone! Any tips?
Ignore the words and concentrate on trying to get the note right. I'm not much of singer, but when I'm stuck that's what I tend to do. Singing is just humming with your mouth open icon_wink.gif
I agree with the previous posts about GHWT drums being boring. I've been playing RB drums for a week now and I find that, no matter the difficulty setting, they have you playing just the right parts to make it feel like you are really playing the song.

On the other hand, GWHT feels extremely generic until you try expert difficulty. It looks like they removed any off-beat sections and reduced the variety of pads to make it easier, but at the same time having you hit more notes (usually hi-hat). I think this approach takes the fun out of playing drums.

At least guitar is fun, and my wife says the singing seems a bit better than RB.
I just made myself a UK account for PSN, after that it appears in the store. Fun song, but I don't think my wife really got the lyrics icon_wink.gif
I got RB from Big W this morning. Drums are fun, guitar will take some getting used to (the fret buttons don't feel anything like my ps2 GH guitar, and the strum feels a lot softer).

Anyone know if the free dlc is available on PSN, specifically "Still Alive" from portal?
I'm thinking of picking up an RB2 kit when I go to the states in a few weeks. If I'm really lucky, I'll be able to pick up some second hand e-drums.

I was originally going to buy RB1 + RB2 in the states, but RB2 for PS3 should be out in the UK by the time I get back, so it'll be safer to import it. If the dollar shoots up before christmas (fingers crossed) I can grab myself some bargain games there.
From what I've read, entropay access to PSN could be pulled in the future. Until they are selling PSN cards for reasonable prices online I don't think there will be a reliable, future-proof method of using the US store.

What are the prices like compared to the oz store?
MrAndyPuppy - Talking RB1, will get RB2 next year on import from the UK. I might even get the drum kit when I go to the states later this year, but I don't think I'd want the US software because of hassles getting dlc.

I'm really looking forward to playing - I used to play dtxmania (drummania for pc) using some toy midi drums. I wasn't great at it, but it was a lot of fun.
I'm in the same boat. I've been constantly flipping between RB and GHWT. I think I've settled on RB - even though the hardware is inferior.

The deciding factor for me is the "fun-ness" of the games. No doubt I'd have fun with GHWT, but everything I've read leads me to believe that Activison have mangled the note charts to artificially increase the challenge, and that the drum charting (not the actual hardware) in RB feels more like real drums, even though there are no cymbals.

Coupled with the incompatibility between GHWT drums and the RB game on PS3, the myriad of hardware problems (admittedly, most are easily fixable with a screw driver and tape), mountains of RB DLC, the imminent PAL release of RB2, and of course the big price difference...

That said, the GHWT hardware looks especially sweet and there are more songs on the disc.

Hopefully come Thursday morning I'll still be of the same mind and I can snag a copy of Rock Band for the Big-W price... But I could still go either way icon_wink.gif
Just got a new JB catalog. Most of the prices are the same as before, but I noticed that Call of Duty 4 is now $59 for PS3 and PC.
Wow. $330 for 1 game.... It's expensive but I think I'm doing it. I figure I can buy the whole World Tour kit here in Oz then import RB1 and RB2 from the states. That way I get to play RB and get a set of instruments with local warranty. I better start saving my pennies...
I got a PS3 1 week ago (crossing over from the 360 camp) and I've completed Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword (slowmo arrows and canons!). That's right - I'm knocking over the short but incredibly sweet titles first. I have started playing Oblivion, but I don't think I'll be adding that to this thread for at least a couple of months icon_wink.gif
Re: PlayTV (4 years ago)
I wonder how it gets it's EPG data... The EPGs provided by commercial stations here in Australia are lacking - they definitely don't provide a 7 day schedule. From my experience with running Windows MCE / MythTV / EyeTV (my current set up on my mac) the only reliable ways to get EPG data in Australia is by paying for a subscription to IceTV (!!) or using one of the free xmltv services. Either option would require official support from Sony before PlayTV could be used to it's full potential in Australia.
