And now for something completely unexpected...

Guild Wars 2 confirmed to be on console

Is Amy in SCV?
Not named although there have been 'speculations' that she is Viola in SCV due to her appearance.
Had a go at the game last night playing nothing but vs. matches against my brother. I was playing Leixia, having been a Xianghua player since SCIII and found Leixia a little different to her mother in terms of move execution.

It didn't help that I went straight into vs. without looking at the move list thinking that Leixia would have adopted mostly the same movelist (true) but with different joystick movements to execute some of Xianghua's moves in SCIV. Also wished they brought back Xianghua's SXS stance which is something I really like about SCIV Xianghua and used quite often.

Played a little bit of Pyrrha (not sure if she adopted Cassandra or Sophitia's moves, or a combination?) but couldn't stand the voice for some reason. Not sure if it's just me... but I had to switch out after playing several rounds.

Also had a go at Viola against my brother and we ended up playing Viola v. Viola matches which was quite fun. Might pick Viola up as a secondary now that Talim is no longer in Soul Calibur.

Will have a better chance to play the game in several weeks time but so far I'm having fun with it.
Year of the tiger past several years ago jp icon_razz.gif (at least on the lunar calendar). Tigers will have to wait quite a while before their turn comes around again icon_wink.gif

Hrm, just started my team and realised that upon selecting the 17th player for my squad I'm down to less than 1 mil icon_lol.gif. Have to stop being so hopeful that I won't breach that 10 mil cap and cut some of my top players...
Maybe...

As long as Carlton beat Richmond first round... again icon_wink.gif

Yes I am a Carlton supporter
Hope you guys don't mind me joining in icon_razz.gif - I played for the first time last year in a work league and managed to win it (beginner's luck ^_^). We'll see how I go though this year.

Re: Guild Wars 2 (1 year ago)
It'll be interesting to see if they'll keep a similar model to GW1 for additional releases beyond the first, allowing one to purchase what they call 'stand alone expansions' such as Factions and Nightfall which don't require the original (Prophecies) but you could link them to an account, or if they'll go down the route of Eye of the North (which required at least one of the three standalones).

but doesn't a mimic just copy the other persons play style wholesale? They've basically made two identical characters? The only difference is visually. In which case why not just put the mimic style in the create a character mode and just make your own character?

[edit]
Wait what the ****, apparently Sophita is a mimic too? Are you **** me. There are three mimic characters in this game? That's... that's **** retarded.
It's something I don't get myself either. To me it feels as though they might've had some problems with character design and movelists, rushing the last couple out to get to their 30 character roster. Whilst we still have two characters yet to be revealed, there's more than that number that isn't returning to Soul Calibur V in one form or another - Talim, Seong Mina, Zasalamel and Setsuka just to name four off the top of my head. Not sure why they couldn't just have one mimic (if they really must have one) and then used the other two slots for other characters that could've made a return to the series...

Video match gameplay which also shows new characters that this guy spoilered. Only 2 characters left (?) before full character roster is revealed.

Matches shown are Elysium v Kilik with a new fighting style, Alpha Patroklos v Omega Pyrrha, Edge Master v. Ezio & Maxi v. Mitsurugi.

it's a classic Grim move, rocket the opponent before they can move away from their spawn icon_lol.gif
It's great when it works icon_lol.gif
It does work nicely if the opponent decides to camp a unit in the spawn position, and not so nicely when it strikes you back hard icon_lol.gif. You aimed the rocket really well though. Nice anticipation.

Lesson - don't keep your units too close together when there's a rocketeer.

I've also got to watch the outcomes more carefully. For some reason grim I thought I took down both of your shotgunners and that we shot each other down. Turns out that was a fatal error in regards to my planning for my next move as well. Owie

Told you it was likely beginner's luck that got me through haha. Gotta be more strategic in my thinking now.

Sounds interesting. Youtube it? icon_biggrin.gif
I'll let JP upload it once it's complete - not really proud of the moves I made in that game and it's one of those games that I'd delete and never want to see again icon_lol.gif - Three words... rockets and carelessness. Me being a little careless, jp and his rockets...

BTW Ember totally whooped me
Might've been me lol. I did issue a couple of challenges although I'm still looking at all the game modes available. Light versions appear to be interesting with information available to everybody... much harder to outsmart your opponent in those ones.

Grim, beginner's luck me thinks... I was fortunate to knock off two of your guys with rockets early on. Not sure how to handle a situation where it's shotgun v. shotgun (assume staying still is best?). I saw your shotgunner and was hoping it was possible to take him down before he spotted my one and failed miserably.

Don't worry, you'll probably destroy me next game haha - giving me an easy time so I feel overconfident then when I least expect it... BAM!

EDIT: jprockbelly you meanie icon_cry.gif - don't think I stand a chance against you with our match after what happened there haha...
So I played my first game of PvP tonight since the last time I tried and it ended up in a draw. Couple of moves that could've definitely be executed better but otherwise I'm happy with my result.

Also sent a couple of challenges out to you guys (Username is Ember in the game). Let's see how great (or horrible) I really am at this game.
It is possible to fight against Katsuhiro Harada, producer of Tekken and Soul Calibur V.

The man will be using a special Devil Jin fighting style. Not sure if it is the one that will be available as part of the character creation mode.

Personally I would love to see that throw where Devil Jin chucks the opponent in the air then shoots lasers out of his eyes, juggling the opponent in the air with them icon_twisted.gif.

Hrm, just realized from looking at the xbox achievements that you could get an achievement by defeating him. Will be interesting to see whether any other special appearances will occur, and what the remaining six characters are.
Another level of persona evolution!? That'll be interesting

Wonder how they'll incorporate the third level of evolution - perhaps via special challenge or having each character in the storyline encounter a certain hardship and overcoming it? Wonder who else will get that treatment as well...
Haven't played Frozen Synapse for a while and just picked it up again recently. Remembered that I was terrible but I enjoyed it and I didn't give it justice the first time around so here I am giving it another shot. If a tourney is to be had I wouldn't mind joining (or helping set one up).

I've added everyone here onto steam friends list so that I could get some games going with you guys. Wouldn't mind taking this opportunity to learn more about the game and how to play better
Finished Bastion not too long ago. Purchased it after hearing a lot of positive things about it and must say I'm not disappointed in getting the game during the steam christmas sale. Very fun and I wouldn't mind going through it again in NG+ / score attack mode in an attempt to get the extra achievements. Really enjoyed the way the story was told and the gameplay worked really well.

Played and finished Super Meat Boy not long afterwards. This game is one of the toughest platformers I've played ever, but I really enjoyed the challenge it gave. Managed to finish light world all with A+ times... how does anyone manage to get through world 7!? That first stage has ragequit written all over it. Still very enjoyable and great fun in short bursts.

Gotten back into GT5 recently having bought a Logitech GTDF. Much better using a wheel with paddles / shifter than a control pad, although I still make a fair few mistakes.

Anyway, update 2.03 is on its way, along with a 3rd DLC pack. Subject to changes but this is what's expected so far (website):

Quote
Apparent information about Gran Turismo 5′s third round of DLC has appeared here in GTPlanet’s forums. According to “Space Empire”, GT5′s 2.03 update will be launched on January 18th, and will include a few of the following new changes and features:

  • New themes for My Home in GT Mode.
  • An option for tire wearing in Pit Strategy (B-spec).
  • Simulates regenerative braking on electric cars.
  • Chaparral 2J Race Car ’70: Fan down force option.
  • Fixed unintended pit stop error in the final lap of a B-spec race.
  • 12 new colors and 12 new wall papers for My Home theme.
Electric cars run slowly without applying acceleration.
Regenerative braking affects the cruising distance.

New downloadable content packs will, reportedly, also become available. The “Speed Test Pack” will include the new “Special Stage Route X Oval” revealed in the recent Honda NSX Concept video, and Car Pack 3 will include the following new vehicles:

  • Nissan Leaf G 2011
  • Aston Martin V12 Vantage 2010
  • Volkswagen [Beetle] 1200 1966
  • Jaguar XJR-9 LM Racecar 1988
  • Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 2011
  • Mini Mini Cooper S Countryman (R60) 2011
VVVVVV

Very simple game - I really enjoyed it. It was difficult at certain points (Veni Vidi Vici, Do as I say, not as I do and Edge Games... I'm looking at the three of you specifically). Managed to get through to the very end and get all 20 of those trinkets. Not sure if I'll attempt to get the trophies - some of those challenges look really crazy...

Guild Wars 2 (1 year ago)
Haven't seen a thread for this yet...

With the final class being confirmed and the closed beta having begun, I think it’s about time a thread was started up as the release date looms ever so close.

Brief Background Intro

Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years after the original Guild Wars with the stirring of the elder dragons who now wreak havoc amongst Tyria. To this day, the dragons have maintained a stranglehold on Tyria, with each race dealing with the dragon threat as best as they can. If they truly wish to survive and defeat the dragons though they must work together.

Playable Races
  • Human
  • Charr
  • Norn
  • Asura
  • Sylvari

Playable Classes
  • Elementalist
  • Warrior
  • Ranger
  • Necromancer
  • Guardian
  • Thief
  • Engineer
  • Mesmer

Features and other stuff
  • Guild Wars 2 will retain the same subscription fee model that they had with Guild Wars. You pay once for the game and that’s it.
  • The creation of a ‘personal storyline’ – Your race, profession, biography and decisions will form the basis of how your character advances through the storyline.
  • Dynamic events – Replaces the traditional MMORPG questing system. Events happen as you see them and you react accordingly.
  • Dungeons – Dungeons have two modes: One mode known as Destiny’s Edge tells the story and a repeatable explore mode which is a more challenging version of the dungeon.
  • Crafting – Gather materials to craft items for yourselves and friends.
PvP returns with two formats – Structured PvP which to my understanding is similar to the current Guild v. Guild format in Guild Wars, and World PvP, where servers battle it out against each other to earn benefits for their server (more casual).
  • Based on your achievements displayed in the Hall of Monuments in Eye of the North you will get minor benefits in Guild Wars 2.
  • Level cap at 80

It's been a long time but it feels like the game could be released very soon! Personally I can't wait for it to come out. What are everyone else's thoughts on this upcoming MMORPG?

Guild Wars 2.. Pleeease let it be next year! I've been waiting so long.. the moment is nearing.
If that is coming out next year, definitely my most anticipated game as well. I don't mind waiting a little as I'm aiming for 50/50 HoM although GW2 has been dragged out for so long...
So apparently 600 million gamers could be violating the Hague and Geneva conventions when they kill and blow stuff up 'for fun' - war crimes!? Crazy much?

^ Yeah, but it was one of the most logical choices. Personally I'm happy Chie is in icon_smile.gif

Looks like there's only room for 2 more then with 8 confirmed based on the character select screen. Wish there was more since there's so many more characters from the P3 and P4 roster. Hoping P3 main and Shinji make it in... other ones that would be nice to have more unusual characters like Koromaru too. Seriously hoping that there's more than 10 as it seems a bit limited...

none of the bosses were as fun as storm king in demon souls or as creative as fools idol or as thrilling as dragon god =(
I think one of the problems is that several bosses felt like repeat fights of bosses in Demon's Souls. The first time around it's great because it's unique. The second time around though (Dark Souls) it's a case of 'been there done that'. For example - Pinwheel felt like a really dumbed down version of Fool's Idol, Belfry Gargoyles reminded me of the Maneater fight... heck Bed of Chaos reminded me of Dragon God to the extent you don't fight it directly. I'm wondering though, imagine playing Dark Souls first then going backwards and trying out Demon's Souls... you'd be in for quite a treat when you played through the Demon Souls bosses (especially Old Monk). Hopefully if From Software release another game boss fights will be as unique as they were in Demon's Souls.

Having said that though that's not to say Dark Souls was a disappointing game for me though. Far from it - I really enjoyed some of the boss fights (Ornstein & Smough and Priscilla) and I thought the mechanics of the game were done quite well. I also really enjoyed the open ended aspects of this game and how you would just wonder around, only to find out you've discovered a new location.

I'm almost nearing the end of my journey now with this game, as I head towards the final boss. I might give NG+ a shot in the future when I defeat this boss but with other games on the backlog I might wait until I complete some of the other games.

Alright, I've joined Darkmoon. But can't make the blue eye orb work. And even running through Darkroot Forest as a human didn't get me anything.

Probably doing it wrong. Anyone care to tell me what a noob I am?
I find the chances of invading using the blue eye orb are quite low, so it isn't just you. It takes some time but you should eventually enter someone's world if you use it somewhat frequently.

I did a lot more invasions wearing the ring that answers the call than using the blue orb, and that's with me using the blue orb somewhat frequently. The chances are low but the nice part is that they don't know you invaded if you're successful icon_twisted.gif.

Some areas are quite popular for PvP as well and you might have a better chance in those areas (e.g. the Kiln and the forest, as you mentioned). Again, it's a matter of luck whether you invade the world of a guilty player but you'll get one eventually if you keep doing it. My suggestion if you want to invade is constantly try it out in different areas of the game as you travel.
Re: Dark Souls (1 year ago)
Trudging through this slowly but I know I'm getting ever so close to completing my first run of the game. I managed to beat Gravelord Nito after having some trouble, then I went back to the painted world to beat Priscilla.

One more... one more to go before the final fight (I think). Not looking forward to going back to Lost Izalith though to get to the final fight. I died pretty quickly the first couple of times I wondered around in there icon_lol.gif
Managed to beat the Dungeon Defenders campaign last night. It was an epic final boss fight as part way through the final wave one of our more powerful players disappeared - the host had horrible lag as well and caused a lot of problems for me and the other remaining guy.

We ended up having to defend the final wave with three of us whilst the system assumed there were four of us defending. Passing that, the final boss fight continued on to four players as well, so we were getting absolutely hammered by monsters from all sides. Somehow we managed to bring the boss down after a 30 minute fight or so, with myself getting through some horrible lag. Great fight though and got some decent rewards out of it.

Now the real fun begins with Dungeon Defenders, getting the achievements and attempting to do the insane challenges to see what I can pull off with my tower build wizard icon_smile.gif

A bunch of questions for you all;
(background information; I'm currently SL 71)
1) I don't have enough faith to join the Warrior of Sunlight covenant, and I want to because I want those miracles. At SL 71 on the first play through, where would the best place be to help out other players. I tried Seath but noone was there.
OropherX and I tried to coop the Duke's Archives but it wouldn't work. I think there is some pre-req to that area before it lets you summon other players and vice versa.

I found lots of coop going on in the New Londo Ruins but you need to drain the water first (or maybe the host only needs to do that).
There's also a restriction that was implemented where people are now separated into groups and can only play with each other if they're in the same 'group'. Whether or not you get into the same group with your friend to my understanding is based on your ping, so that's a second barrier you have to pass in addition to getting into roughly the same soul level (10% restriction). You have to hope you're in the same group with your friends or else you won’t be able to co-op with them.
