^ Not happy with Just a Bunch Of Disk (JBOD) RAID arrays?
Software RAID 1+0, do not want. I've seen too many instances of multiple drive failures in RAID 5 and 6 arrays to even bother with them. Plus if you're stacking that many drives in a bloody desktop you should be investing in a SAN.
Having watched "Rebuilding the Titanic" far more than I should have, that's pretty amazing even if there are some inaccuracies here and there.

That thing would make an amazing setting for a game.
2TB at 5400 rpm is still quite quick. Just to give you an idea, a 2TB 7200 rpm is faster than my 600 GB 10000 rpm drive.

As someone's who just spent 4 months building enterprise grade images (and ironing out bugs with them) for OS on SSD and Data on mechanical HDD. Just getting a 3TB with another largish drive for backups is the way to go until you're getting 512+ GB SSDs or someone releases an OS (and FS) that can handle multiple drives with different sizes and IO/lag speeds that's invisible to the user. Windows 7 and 8 (unless it changes radically from the current builds) just aren't there yet to have hassle free computing with multiple drives. Mind you I work at a Helpdesk so my opinion may be biased at little as to what constitutes hassle free.
Nah, it got up by itself and was blinking around stupidily for a bit before I rescued it. I'm pretty sure it one of the windows before falling trying to evade either the crazy insane agressive against pigeons magpies or the falcon that often visits.
Rescued a pigeon from its doom. Was sure the thing was dead after it hit the metal grate that hard.

I played through Halo on a housemate's Xbox to see what all the fuss was about. If it were my copy of the game, I might have thrown it across the suburb. Gorram Library level can eat my-
I had no issue with the Library... The swamp level however, even with the damn guide... HOURS of torment, two rooms that look exactly the same one after the other and the damn enemy attacks you in the same way in both, I ended up just going back and forth between the two rooms until I ran out of ammo, spent 15 minutes beating everything to death with the assault rifle then while back peddling from one of those jumping ones I backed out through the door to freedom!

As for memorable games, Halo, Halo 2, PGR2, Rallisport Challenge 2, the Ghost Recon games and KOTOR. Also my original Xbox broke and I must have won a competition on Xbox.com or something and didn't know... The day before my birthday a brand new Xbox arrived with 4 games and a bunch of CDs. For a so called Apple Fanboy, Microsoft's treated me well with the Xbox.

With no map or compass in sight, it will be a common occurrence to be wandering around some of Anniversary’s levels at a loss of where exactly you’re meant to traverse to next.
It's probably too late now but there is a compass on the assault rifle. It's the little moving arrow on the ammo left counter, according to the original manual (paraphrasing of course), "While there's no north or south on Halo, the Assault Rifle's compass will always point to the strong magnetic field of the gas giant".

Kids these days are used to having everything handed to them... I thought that feature back in the day (I was what, 13?) was pretty clever. I kept the assault rifle on me the entire way through the game just to use the compass. I call that great game design rather than hand holding these "modern" games do, can't wait for another WW2 game where a "massive" feature is that you get to stop in lulls in combat and consult your paper map with a compass and actually have to use your brain to work out where you are with landmarks.
I must admit I never enjoyed those early FPS. Duke Nukem 3D was at least interesting to me because there were submarines, strippers and toilets. Doom was really quite boring. However unlike others I could only play such games maybe once a month for fifteen minutes. Modern games are at least a bit more interesting than just bland corridors with enemies hurling fireballs at you.

I don't think you'll see the return of anything like Doom or Quake simply because the people who love those games are pretty happy with what they've got and people who haven't experienced them just wouldn't care. I can't really see a cinematic trailer that will catch people's attention. Even if someone does make one, they'll be ripped to shreds by places like IGN and whatnot for being unimaginative and linear.

But what would I know, I'm an RTS player and find Zelda games boring as hell. icon_razz.gif

Can anyone else see a slightly screwed up face on the larger cliff...face...
Filled up my car from nearly empty, only cost $36. Mind you I can only do about 430 km per tank so it's not that great.

Ah the removal from package ceremony, at my work place it is traditional for each new type of device we receive that there is a gathering and a mock ceremony to occur like the one in the video above. My favourite company for it is HP. TouchSmart(dumb) 9100s come in enough useless clingy plastic to float a small island economy. Also spare parts can be a joke. A single 5mm screw once came in a long thin box that you'd normally expect those industrial fluorescent tubes to come in. But the real reason we do it is that usually the new toys cost tens of thousands of dollars and it's nice to see those arrive mint in the box before being shipped to who knows where, where it will collect dust while running 24/7 doing its job.

Wow, did not realise Lion could do that. This is why I love you Bronze.
Snow Leopard did this too... You can also assign programs to "Spaces" so when they launch they go to that "Space" instantly. Very hand for VMs though it does freak some people out when you suddenly zoom through a bunch of them to find a particular thing for them.
Today was "Celebration Day" at work, the School captain found a really old rule that no one has overturned that allows School Captain to have a beard and bring a horse and their wife to school functions. Today he turned up on horseback.

Also a few of the Year 12s were walk around shouting "We're the 1%! Give us your money! We'll put it in our off shore funds!"

Question for Brisbanites.

Should I use public transport (and risk getting lost because I suck :< )?
As hilarious as it sounds, if you need to arrive anywhere on time always take public transport and pick three departures from your first embarkation and aim to catch the first one. If you miss the first one you can still catch the 2nd and if doesn't turn up or is running late you know you've got the third one or at least if it's late you'll still make it. I survived full time education and then employment with >45 minute journeys via public transport and barring things like someone going nuts and trying to kill someone at a train station or a bushfire burning away the sleepers on the tracks I've never been later than about ten minutes.

If driving, always use a combination of Google, Bing and Whereis maps in order to work out how long it's going to take. I find Bing is more accurate for times in normal traffic, Google is really conservative with its times and often screws up on Melbourne roads and Whereis can pull traffic information sometimes.
Sent a strange SMS to someone's GF (who's never met me) using their phone and having the GF guess it was me. Having that same person's phone ring in the car when I was driving them home and screaming out "HI MUM!" as it was answered. Little victories keep the defeats away.

It's a horrible situation but the reason so many were shot was because not only do they need tranquilliser guns but they also need facilities to house the animals. The laws over there are crazy anyway, there are more tigers in private zoos in America than in the wild in their native habitat.

Horus Rising - 18 from GW. I've been reminiscing about the whole 40k scene recently and thought I'd get this book to tide me over till after exams.
Having read all but the one released yesterday, prepare for a massive time sink. Most of them are really good but there are a couple of really tedious ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't facetime just videochat? That's obviously around for ages...
They created a "standard" and then released it calling it Facetime. It's an MPEG4 AAC streaming video, been around for yonks however they did implement it on their desktop OS as well meaning you can do it cross platform which mobile phone video calling couldn't really do before. iMessage is probably going to be released as a "standard" too at some stage, Apple look like they trying really hard to render telecos as dumb pipes. That's why Telstra, Optus and co are all releasing all these mobile TV and other subscription based packs so they can keep extra charges when they get knocked out from supplying voice and SMS services (bonus point: MMS is just an email with a fancy header and size limit. if you send an email to <number>@3.net.au you can MMS someone's phone from your computer) .

Having heard them play the jingle it's actually pretty good. I've been following this since they announced they were working on it, they've cut down a masive list to this one. At least this album is fairly different, I mean how many times do you need to hear the Super Mario Theme?

Apparently location-based reminders only work with locations in your contacts list, which is a bit silly.
I've had mine working with current location. But then again I haven't really played with the fully working version. I'm just pleased to have a functional phone again after the betas.
Been working with Year 7s and 8s this week. They're so silly it's hilarious, some highlights over the week:

A kid in the middle of a group of his friends suddenly busts out some punches/kicks in quick succession then hits one of his friends in the chest screaming "HADOKEN!"

A kid randomly walked past me playing the bagpipes.
Re: iOS 5 (1 year ago)
Been using the betas since release for work to test iDevice functionality (urgh! never again), so glad they fixed the astronomical amount of bugs I found in the betas. My phone updated in twenty minutes, mind you I did it before 6am and was getting 800+ KBps on the download. Some guys were trying at work around 9am and were only getting 150ish.

Best feature is location based reminders. Was in Adelaide a month or so ago and had reminders set to make sure we didn't leave anything behind at the many places my group was visiting (someone forgot baby meds, whoops).
But they're not smart enough to join the Spanish army.

i'm not having a go at you and i don't know where your work, but have you tried alternate routes? like princess highway and other parallel roads?
I live in the Dandenong Ranges. I work very close to Domain Interchange. The other options are Punt Road/Hoddle Street (shudder) or a two hour affair with Dandenong Road. The freeway isn't that much of a better option either as I still have to negotiate that first part of the bottleneck anyway. I'm happy to try to explore other routes but this one does seem to be the best at the moment.
