They are - it just means that you can't import an NTSC copy and expect it to work on a PAL console, it doesn't stop you from importing a copy from the UK (PAL, uncensored) and playing it on your PAL console though.
Ah ok - that makes sense, then. Thanks for the clarification!
Re: Lumines Preview (7 years ago)
Great game... a rarity in terms of 'easy to learn, hard to master' type gameplay. Can be frustrating at the start...but once it 'clicks' (and eventually it will), it is certainly very addictive.

Just one thing... "As the game gets further on, the speed at which the line moves increases, making it more difficult to put your blocks together. "

That is incorrect, the vertical time line (or clear line, whatever you want to call it) moves according to the BPM of the current music and this varies greatly as you progress through the different 'skins'. When a skin features a rapidly moving time line, blocks are cleared quickly, but it is harder to string hi-scoring combos... and vice versa with a 'slower' skin.

Anyhoo - this one's highly recommended for those getting a PSP. I've got Ridge Racers, MGA and Lumines but Lumines occupies the UMD slot 80% of the time. Play with it using a pair of good quality earphones (NOT the ones included in the value pack) and I guarantee you'll be in an almost trance-like state. It's the potent combination of simple gameplay mechanics, aesthetics and sound which does it for me.
Yup there are no region locks on PSP games... there are however region locks on UMD movies (not that anyone would actually go buy UMD movies anyway esp when they're expected to be priced the same as a DVD).

Best to import I'd say... saves the 4 month wait + its the cheaper option. There's the risk of getting an import unit with dead-pixels though.

I wonder how much the games are going to be.... $60-70?

Bad move by SCE's part - NDS is definitely going to win over the market here in Aus unless they reduce the PSP's price. Not that Sony would really care since we're such a small market.
