I believe it's just a poor port, they haven't even bothered adding standard 16:10 widescreen support.

For some reason the only widescreen resolution available to me on the PC version is 1280x720 (16:9, unlike the standard which is 16:10), which means I'm forced to play with black bars.

I've started playing Kingdom O' Magic again, which in my opinion one of the best adventure games ever created, though it's quite obscure.
