I'll be wandering over to Centrepoint in about half an hour or so to see if there is a line forming.

Sure, they may be giving away less copies of PDZ, than the other two titles, but there's still good reason to offer it.
It's just a shame that they aren't doing it at more locations. It's going to be a really busy night!

I tried to get my local EB to match the deal, but they said they could not, as it was MS providing the free game, not EB. It was at this time that I had my order transferred to the City store
Re: Xbox 360 Launch...what are you getting? (7 years ago)
I'm heading to the EB at Centrepoint to partake of the MS Official launch activities... Dancing girls, cheerleaders, news crew madness, etc.
Oh, and a free game from MS for everyone that pre-ordered
So what I'm getting on the night is;
Xbox 360 Premium pack.
Two Play 'n Charge kits.
VGA Cable (no more component inputs left on the Plasma).
Xbox Live Headset.
Kameo.
PGR3 (free game)
All fully paid off... just waiting for the damn thing to arrive in stores.
I've already bought the VIP pack (PDZ and extra Wireless) and the Logitech Harmony 360 remote (which is great!).

I have an HD TV, and this is an issue for me, hence my interest in getting it right. David also said that his mate had a "Huge HDTV" and thus the thread continued.

Please explain? It's still just an electrical current carrying a signal on each plug. Everything is always analogue at some point.
Check the following two resources for a bit of background on why it's more complicated than you think, and why you may have to pay a little extra to get what you really want.

The next link is to a PDF that lays it out pretty clearly on the first page;

Because 99% of people you talk to in a store aren't aware of the requirements for good component video switching, and because products like the Joytech dont (I presume) list the video bandwidth on the packaging, I'd reccomend steering clear of them until you see the tech specs in writing from the manufacturer, rather than just a bullet point on the box claiming to switch HD.

and send the signal perfectly intact.
I don't mean to be argumentative, it's just that switching a true HD signal is not really a simple matter, and often these devices aren't really doing what you expect.
I'm in the market for a swtich myself, and if the Joytech 360 works as advertised, I'd be very happy to buy one right now - it's just that the lack of any real tech specs make me wary.
Re: AV selector (7 years ago)
Anyone know the bandwidth specs. for the Joytech 360 switcher? It's suspicious that they say it will switch an HD signal but not list bandwidth.
A DECENT component video switcher that will do resolutions higher than 1080i (meaning 720p) can easily cost you five times as much as the Joytech. I suspect that the Joytech is a passive switcher that is "HD Compatible" but won't really parse a 720p signal gracefully.
If you actually have a 720p native display, I'd reccomend steering away from these "consumer" level products and get yourself a decent device.
All rumour and speculation - I'm just saying that you should do your homework.

Several Xbox 360 games are available to purchase now from JB Hi-Fi. Ridge Racer 6, NFS:Most Wanted and a couple sports titles...
All seem to be around the $114.95 pricepoint, undercutting EB by five bucks a game.

Re: Memoirs of a PAL RPG gamer. (News/releases/etc) (7 years ago)
I recently bought Tales of Eternia for the PSP. Though I'm not particularly a fan of Japanese RPG's, I was feeling like something different.
Thus far it's been enjoyable. The general gameplay areas and combat look nice, though the 3D world map look like it was lifted from an early PS1 game and it pretty hard on the eyes. I suppose the care put into the 2D environments makes up for this.
The story is your typical anime-ish rubbish with the usual generic, sexually ambiguous characters and mannerisms, but the combat keeps it fun and the speed of progression seems about right.
I was tossing up between this and BoF3, but as I read that ToE had a nicer English translation, that's where I went.
I guess if you're a hardcore JAP-RPG nut, you'll find a lot to like.

Re: xbox360 HDTV refreash rates.... What are they? (7 years ago)
Major Nelson mentioned in one of his recent podcasts (I believe it was the second most recent podcast, which focused on HDTV) that if you are using a Component signal at 720p, it will default to 60Hz.
This was a big concern of mine, and has been put to rest. Thanks, Major Mouthpiece!

Well, I've seen T3 and I have this to say - what a goddam dissapointing non-event of a movie!
T3 was a MAJOR let down, especially compared to what came before. I think James Cameron was right - the story should have ended with number two - he'd told everything that needed to be said and explored the characters as far as they needed to go.
One of the most frustrating things was that so little actually happened in the movie to progress the storyline that I had the same anti-climactic feelings as when I saw Gangs of New York, a movie which can be summed up as "Once there were gangs in New York, now there aren't". T3 can be summed up as "John enters a bomb shelter and a bomb goes off". It just wasn't interesting! John was one dimensional and while Claire Danes had promise, neither of them actually had anything to do in the movie - standing mostly idle as Arnie hogged the spot light, with an occasional groan-worthy scene involving the TX.
And what a waste of the TX! It's such a gimmick to have a female Terminator, as she didn't act female in any way - aside from one pointless scene containing an on the fly boob job. Seriously, why did she bother when she was about to kill the cop anyway? I wouldn't have mind the TX being female if it actually ACTED female - as it was, we just had a bad re-hash of Robert Patrick from T2. The TX was a pure gimmick to get teenage boys in seats - like you'd need to with an Arnie gun-flick! I understand the idea behind having a female infiltration unit, but the fact is, in this movie, there was no point whatsoever.
If you want to talk about logic flaws in the movie (not related to time travel) there are countless examples, one of the most frustrating being the scene outside the Vet hospital when the TX takes over the emergency vehicles, controlling them via wi-fi. Since when do cars have servo's in the clutch, break, accelerator and steering wheels? There is such a thing as willing suspension of disbelief, but there comes a point where you just have to throw your hands up in the air and say "This is fucking stupid". The same goes for the cars which when shot once will blow the fuck up and result in a twenty foot high fireball, yet the rockets shot from the flying T units result in nothing so much as a puff of smoke! The message is clear - Don't but the main characters in a dangerous situation that contradicts the sort of things we've seen in an earlier scene. The same goes for the speed of the TX - when fleeing the graveyard, we're shown that the TX can, even with a handicap, overtake a speeding vehicle on foot - yet when she chases John and whats-her-name through the Particle Accelerator, she can't catch them up!
There are more, but the point is, at every step of the way, the movie dissapoints. The end of the movie felt like the point where it should have started! The whole thing felt like a trailer for a movie which was over in minutes.
Definitely not worth seeing, and definitely not worth owning on DVD.

I agree - I played Tomb Raider : AOD on the PC and it's abysmal. For a game that has a focus on such an agile character, it feels like you're steering a brick. The Tomb Raider series has been going downhill ever since number one.
Bring on Prince of Persia : Sands of Time and Galleon (yeah, like we'll ever see THAT one).

Re: MMORPGs (9 years ago)
Well, first thing, the poll wasn't very well thought out. Where's the option for "They are a work in progress and should get better as time goes on?"
Anyway, I've really only played UO and EQ, and I WAS looking forward to SW:G, but now it seems like it's purely EQ with a new lick of paint.
I AM however, eagerly looking forward to World of Warcraft...

Re: Good Gaming Sites (9 years ago)
www.gametrailers.com is a great site for video game... umm.. trailers.
www.gameguru.box.sk is a good general games and IT website.
www.gamerankings.com is a great site for figuring out which games may be worth taking a second look at.
These three sites and the links therein are all you'll need to keep on top of things.

To each their own, but I'll be sticking to the original controller. And since my wife, with her small hands and skinny fingers can happily use the original controller, all arguments of "it's too big" go right out the window.

And yeah, stick the disc in your DVD drive and off you go - in theory.

Re: Worst names in gaming (9 years ago)
The game was the pits, but the name IS kind of an appropriate pun, at least.
I mean what contributes to a title being considered "bad"? Does it just have to sound silly (Dance Dance Revolution, Chu Chu Rocket)? Or does it refer to an inappropriate name (Final Fantasy)?

It's not, technically, the game they're emulating. They actually just got the text fromthe game to be displayed. It was a start.
But you're correct - Turok Evolution is inexcusable garbage.
