Well recently a 3rd party device has come out which lets you use a snes or nes controller on the wii, I'm thinking of picking one up.
I've had a SNES controller adapter for the Wii for almost three years, never use anything else for 2D VC.

Trust me, it's a 3000.
Ah, okay, HEN firmware. Bit of a shame though, HEN is a bit feature poor compared to M33 (or GEN now). Still much better then standard FW though.

PSP stuff
I think that's a 2000, not a 3000, just based on looks. And you can't really put Custom Firmware on a 3000 properly, so if you did that then it's def a 2k.
It is very disappointing. But still vastly superior to the ugly art, clunky physics, dumbed down gameplay, and presentation abortion that is Street Fighter EX4. I will NEVER forgive Capcom for what they have done.

46" Panasonic G10 Plasma. And Serenity Blu Ray.
If confident yourself, why not open it up and have a look and see if anything inside is damaged? Which model is it?

Makes a lot of sense from a Sony money making point of view! Gimp the PS3 from playing legit PS2 discs and force people to re-buy games they own already.
Works for Nintendo.
But the difference is you're not allowed to diss Nintendo for it. icon_razz.gif
Exactly what has Nintendo done that requires dissing in terms of BC? It plays the last gen of Nintendo game discs flawlessly. Did you expect them to put an N64 slot on the Wii? VC games are at least ten years old and not readily available anymore, and much like PS1 games on PSN you're paying for the convinience.

If anything Nintendo stance on BC (ie perfect and free for last gen games) has hurt them. It meant the Wii was stuck with the same architecture to allow flawless BC. If they'd gone to a more advanced Power PC chip (which wouldn't have cost much more, or maybe even less, but would have made BC harder if not impossible) then the Wii could have had more power at the same price/profit per unit. I don't understand why they did it, unlike the PS2, the GCN didn't have a decent market position to defend with BC (like how the PS1 compatibility of the PS2 made it as obvious 'upgrade' choice for PS1 owners).

And Sony didn't drop PS2 BC in order to 'rip you off' later either, it was a cost cutting exercise on a system that cost far, far too much to manufacture and sell. They've come up with a bunch of excuses since then to explain it, but really they were just avoiding saying 'we had to gimp the system because it cost too much to make and we're drastically losing marketshare and have to try something to stem the blood loss'.
Re: Famicom Games (3 years ago)
I've got like 100 Famicom games, almost all bought on ebay. Use US ebay, AU ebay misses things, even when you 'roam' overseas within it.

I'm mostly a Famicom disk system collector, have about 40 games just for that. One day I might even be able to complete the set. Love those disks.

You'll find it gets addictive, and you'll move on into harder drugs like PC Engine, Saturn, and Neo Geo collecting.

Re: Beatles Rock Band (3 years ago)
Hmm, thinking about getting the band kit of this, I've never liked plastic guitar games but vocals and drums will be cool for Beatles.

Trying to decide what platform to get it on, Wii or PS3. Wii is at the top because the console is the smallest, easily portable etc to bring around to people's places, reviews say it's the same on Wii, DLC and all, but obviously the graphics will be low res. Can't see myself dragging PS3 around, but obviously better graphics and easier DLC etc is cool. 360 is right out, I'm buying one soon but no way I'd invest $300+ in band gear (thus locking me in for music games to that platform) on such an unreliable piece of hardware.

Heh, never knew about this thread.

I've lost at least 28 kilos over the last year. I was in the mid-high 90s (don't know what my max was, but I definitely hit 96 a few times, maybe even got near 100). I'm now 69 kilos.

Toyota Yaris Sedan

I was originally looking at Corollas, but the new Corolla sedans are huge, they are pretty much a Camry with a smaller engine. Don't like the Yaris hatch, but I saw the sedan and fell in love.

Re: Love to Hate #7 (3 years ago)
It's a game I love despite all the obvious flaws.

For me the biggest one was that it got repetitive, there were really about four types of colossi, and the change was simply how you got onto them. For all the 'it's like the good bits of Zelda' comments, Most Zeldas have more variety in their boss fights. And they also have far more content on top of that (full overworld, towns, side quests, dungeons etc as well as epic boss fights).

While parts were spectacular, it was also quite ugly sometimes, the overworld was often a shimmering, colour banded, muddy PS1-like 8-bit textured mess. The developers got greedy and overstretched the PS2 hardware.

But it's a game that sticks with you. And I really liked the morally ambiguous story.

Metroid: The complete Japanese + PAL AU collection
Nice collection, but I'm curious...

...why? What would drive you to want every Metroid game, including doubles (perhaps triples, quads when you get to the US/UK games)?
because I want to? My primary platforms are usually Japanese spec, so I get the Japanese versions for them, as well as the PAL versions. Also, as you can see, the Japanese editions have significantly different box arts, so think of it as collecting Metroid merchandise if you like.

What I want to know is where the Classic NES Series Metriod for GBA, David?
Not released in Australia, so doesn't affect the PAL AU sets completeness. It was released in Europe and the US, so will be part of phase 3 of the collection.

Has it since release in 1994. It's not that hard to come by though.
After finally finding a Japanese copy of Metroid II, and purchasing the latest 'Play on Wii - Metroid Prime 2 Dark Echoes', I now, after 18 years of collecting, present to you:

Metroid: The complete Japanese + PAL AU collection

Metroid 1, including rare small box European edition and Famicom Mini GBA version

Also including a second sealed copy of the original Famicom Disk System version

Metroid II and III

Metroid Prime (including US edition of Prime 1 since it has a different game script, and a demo of Echoes)

Echoes/Dark Echoes, Fusion and Zero Mission

Hunters, including First Hunt demo (no Japanese version of that)

Pinball, Corruption and 'Play on Wii' Prime and Echoes

Complete Prime Trilogy

Complete Prime set including Hunters and Pinball

Complete Japanese collection

Complete PAL AU collection, all bought new in Australia, with the exception of Metroid 1 on their local release date (got Metroid 1 in 1991, 3 years after release), and obviously the European edition

Next to get: PAL UK collection, NTSC U collection

...As well as Prime Trilogy and Other M!
Played through the first four, 2 and 3 were the best, 4 was a slight let-down. Will eventually grab this in English, looks like it's back on the right track.
PSP battery life in fine, and I'd be guessing they're comparing this to the battery life of a 2000 running downloaded games.
Re: Black Wii. Finally. (3 years ago)

Yes. Both are games that stick with you.

I don't understand why people think this is a good deal.

A DS Lite is worth ~$150 used? So it's more like the equivalent of ~$250 for the DSi in reality (and without the voucher it's basically full RRP).
Well that's just the thing, to get $150+ trade in for a DS lite, irrespective of condition (I had a spare pretty beat up one) is just killer. Add in a couple of games bought for $5 each at a Dick Smith sale, and I got a DSi for $129, with no hassles at all.

No doubt to me at all that the DSi is not worth $300. But to me it was easily worth $129 plus some stuff I had lying around.
Re: Your newest purchase (4 years ago)
Mini Marios love their new home:
Yeah, I grabbed it and it's shallow but some silly fun with awesome music.

Of course it's still a dumb idea, and the fact they re-designed the classic characters in a fan-service game makes no sense at all.

Disappointing that this is the Castlevania Wii game we got, but not awful for what it is.
Holy crap, Upa? I've been trying to buy a decent priced copy for years!

Next we'll get Almana no Kiseki or Ai Senshai Nicoli, other japan only Konami FDS classics.

I was perusing the PALGN forums and noticed, for the first time, your retro section. Well I was thrilled as I am a huge retro gamer, only to find that it only went as far back as the first xbox.
I should just chime in here - retro in this case means 'Retro PALGN', ie the coverage we did of games before this generation.

We weren't around for the N64 generation and earlier, so we didn't have any contemporary coverage of it. Our true 'retro' coverage is in certain features, some of which has been covered already in this thread.

Yep.
As everyone said, do not buy on ebay, they are fake, almost every single one.
