Graciously uploaded on YouTube, the just over three minute long clip is sure to instil a mixed response in fans and non-fans alike. While it's not clear which console hardware the footage is running from, the game appears to keep a brisk framerate--sadly there's just not that much happening on screen anyway. In any case, those playing at home can already tick off the visible necessary requirements of a Silent Hill game. Nurses? Check. Fog? Check. Arbitrarily locked doors? Check. Colourfully rustic interior decorating? Check. German commentator that won't shut up and allow the viewer to hear any in-game audio? That must be a "next-gen" feature to the series.
Of course, it's still early days, and this footage would no doubt at best be merely from a still early in-house beta. Officially announced back at E3 earlier this year, the existence of a Silent Hill V came across as both a cause for excitement and worry. Here was the return of a series that arguably dipped a bit with its last instalment, but now was in the hands of mixed American developers, The Collective. While this gameplay clip doesn't quite change the insecurity of the final product, it's nevertheless nice to see that progress is being made on Silent Hill V toward that still vague '08 release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
