God of War 3 confirmed

PS3 News | Next in the series coming 2009.
The Game Reviews has interviewed composer Chris Velasco, who confirmed that God of War 3 does in fact exist, and that it's coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 in 2009. The game will run in 1080P, and will utilise the SixAxis controller's motion sensitivity as well as the Dual Shock 3's rumble feature. Further details were not provided.

Cory Barlog, the game's director, previously made references to another God of War title at the God of War II launch party back in March, but this is the first public statement that identifies the title as being in development.

If PS3 price has dropped signifigantly by then, I might just pick one up for this. Sound like exactly the kind of game I enjoy.

Also nice to hear it's the finale - not because I want the series to end, but because it distinguishes it from all those moneymaking games that get churned out. When there will be no sequels, the developers will really put their hearts into making a memorable and awesome game.

Was someone drinking when they wrote the sub-heading for this story, or am I missing something. "Fifth in the series"?!?!?

Including the PSP title (Chains of Olympus) and the mobile game (Betrayal), this is the fifth in the God of War series.

My apologies - I originally wrote the article stating that it would be the finale, but once it had gone live I checked to make sure that it was in fact the final GoW game, and discovered it was just a rumour. I've since read numerous times that it's actually the next instalment, and finale doesn't come into it.

Thanks

I'd say it's possible with GoW. The screen moves slowly along with the action so I'd say it's a realistic chance to be actually be 1080p.

Usually it's the opposite since the faster a game is moving the less detail you need to still be visually stunning since there's less time for your eyes to focus on all the details. More likely it's possible because it'll be a PS3 exclusive and they can design their engine to fully utilize everything the PS3 has rather than just the stuff that is similar to the other platforms. The fixed camera will also allow for higher detail since they can pack the scenes with massive ammounts of detail without the risk the player will look in a direction with too much detail on screen causing a massive drop in framerate.

Still who cares about the details, it's god of war and the gameplay should be gold icon_biggrin.gif

I have a 1080p screen, but I'd still prefer 720P at 60 FPS with some nice AA than 1080P at 30 FPS. For action games like this having things feel smooth is better than big resolutions IMHO. Ratchet for example was exceptionally smooth, and GoW for PS2 has a similar fluidity, I'd hate GOW3 to loose that just before it's aiming for 1080P.

^I think you underestimate what Sony Santa Monica are capable of with their engines.

If history is anything to go by, God of War I and II equalled almost every Xbox game out there in overall visuals, and it ran flawlessly on the weakest of the machines last gen.

If PS3 really is that powerful, then IMO Santa Monica are going to do some unbelievable things with God of War III.

Personally I can't wait. I'm mega pumped after GoW II.

this will no doubt be one of the biggest games of 2009 can't wait to finally finish off Zeus.

Well, duh. There would be rioting (at least from me) if they didn't follow up the ending of GoW2. Was so insanely wicked, just thinking about it makes me amped for this game.

i hope you finish off Zeus at the start of the game.
