Australian Singstar Store launches

PS3 News | We have the first pricing and track details.
Initially slated as a launch title, Singstar for the PlayStation 3 has finally arrived, just in time for Christmas. While the game is out in shops, today also marks the launch of the Australian Singstar Store. For a small fee gamers can hop onto the Singstore and download the latest songs to play against their friends.

The Australian Singstore has launched with 41 songs and all are available for the decent price point of $2.45. Every song on the store right now is available in SD, with none available in HD, hopefully the price point won't increase once HD clips become available.

I'm suprised to hear that the songs are only in SD. This track list is a great start to the Singstar Store. Does anyone know how frequently Sony are planning on updating the store?

Every fortnight I believe.

Depeche Mode and Travis! Woohoo icon_smile.gif
I agree with Nexus: this is a pretty good selection for a launch list.

I wonder if there will be any tacky Christmas music in a fortnight?

So are you reviewing this drunk or sober Luke? I can't imagine playing this game without at least 12 beers.

hahah i'm playing through it now... have been all day nice and sober at the moment.

It seems that most, if not all, of those songs listed have already featured in previous Singstar titles. Is that correct?
from what I can remember it's about 50/50.

From what I can see, there are at least 25 songs on that list that are new to SingStar.

I remember reading that the plan is to have around 100 songs per month once the game begins to pick up speed... which is great considering the previous expansions were only 30 songs every few months!

How do you get onto the store just out of interest I'm guessing that there is a link in the game.

I was under the poor impression that the Singstar series was mainly aimed at the female audience. Can someone of the male persuasion point out the flaws / truth to that statement?

corder: Yeah just go to 'Online' from the menu and then select the SingStore - it's as easy as that. icon_smile.gif

Jaworski: The only truth to that statement is that stereotypically, females are probably more likely to sing just for the fun of singing. Some guys on the other hand would play SingStar because it's fun to get drunk and make an ass of yourself in front of your mates.

However, some guys do like singing, and the fact is that males are still more likely to have a console, and it's undeniable that in a party situation (whether it's a bunch of guys, bunch of girls, or a mix), karaoke is a helluva lot of fun, and you don't have to be a chick to sing your lungs out and have a good time.

I love music, generally speaking, and I also love to sing (even though people may not like it icon_wink.gif). I've also established several friends who love the games, and we have regular SingStar nights which are always an absolute blast.

Gals may initially love the concept more than guys, but once you put a microphone in your hand, it doesn't matter which gender you are - it's just bloody good fun!! icon_cool.gif

unfortunately i think this game isn't going to sell like the PS2 titles. Unless Singstar fans actually know about this game we will see i guess.

Funny that with the video. They have been going on about HD content, all the videos on the disc are HD, all the advertisements are made in HD but downloads are SD?!?!

Good for me and my download cap but other than that it's an odd choice at the moment. Just os you know I'm not interested in it but my house mate is, she's a real singstar nut.

i won't be buying this game but I'm interested to see how it goes sales wise and critical. This game is very important to the PS3 to welcome in a new audience.

I used to shake my head when walking past singstar on the shelves untill i traded in a pantload of games and couldnt think of a game that I wanted and the storeman at EB talked me into the entire singstar collection. I have never looked back I play it mostly with my girlfriend but have been known to belt out some tracks when home alone.

Its just good guilty fun and besides guitar hero, i havent found a product like it. We played one night at a party with three professioanl singers so we had the pro style microphones stands so we could lean on them axl rose style.

So guys and gals benefit from the fun to be had with this game. Except the rnb version which is a bit girly for me.

Do many of the tracks contain male vocals? Id feel a little corny singing over a song sung by a girl icon_wink.gif

Yay Bloc party ^^

I hope they release hunting for witches and some interpol songs.

Nena - 99 Red Balloons
I'm guessing this still is not in German yet? The English version is a travesty...

But when do we get the Bollywood version???
There are plenty of songs with male vocals - it's probably about 50/50. Oh and it's not corny if you're singing girly songs by yourself and nobody else can prove it. icon_lol.gif

Bollywood isn't 'big enough' over here to warrant a release of that particular expansion - you'll have to import I'm afraid if you ever want to play SingStar Bollywood.

99 Red Balloons remains in English.

$2.45 each or $2.45 for the set?

One is a great deal the other not so great.

They are $2.45 per song.

Given that MP3s off of iTunes are $1.69 each for just the bare bones track, it's pretty reasonable that for an extra 76 cents you get the film clip as well, along with the ability to play it as a SingStar song...

In fact, on iTunes (which I'm using as an example coz it's pretty common), it's $3.39 for your average film clip. I reckon the price of the songs on the SingStore is very reasonable.

Would be a good idea that every song purchased and on disc can be listened to as normal songs via the music panel on the XMB.

and also looking forward to this game.
