Rock Band instruments busted?

PS3 News | Reports of broken instruments flooding in.
Rock Band's online community has been very vocal about the hardware packaged with the new title from Harmonix Music Systems. The title, recently released in the US and coming to PAL shores next year, allows players to simulate being part of a rock band using a variety of peripherals that are packaged with the game.

But based on complaints from early adopters, the hardware included is unreliable. Some users have indicated that their peripherals were broken or faulty upon opening the box, while others have described poor durability, such as drums becoming dented after several hours' play.

One user has posted a solution for an apparently common issue with the guitar included in the game's package.

for some reason, a few links in your articles (not just this one) have an extra "http//" in the URL that breaks the link. for example:
http://http//community.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=20

i don't know if something was added behind the scenes, or what, but it's a little weird. (it's present in the COD4 price Rise article too, by different authors, so i think it's more likely an automated issue, rather than writer error.)

It's about time a company finally realised that when we buy products we don't want them to work out of the box or for very long. Does that mean i can pay with money that puts itself through a washing machine, rips itself in half and disappears down a drain?

The article neglected to mention the fact that EA has a 60 Day Warranty on the Controllers, and if they break, you send it back to EA, and they'll replace the Controller(s) free of charge- You don't even pay for shipping.

60 days huh? Sounds like a Limited Warranty covering Manufacturing Defects.

In effect in empowers them to make crap and places responsibility on the consumer. no claims after 60 from receipt date.

I don't like have to test a product I have bought so that I may claim a replacement if it is faulty.

Hopefully the issue is sorted out by the time it hits Australian shores. A 60 day warranty on something that seems prone to break sucks.

I'd much prefer to have a warranty where if something goes wrong with it out of the box or during gameplay that allows me to just send off and get a new one with no questions asked, than have nothing at all and get screwed in the rear.

Harmonix set it upon themselves to make durable products- One dude from Harmonix said they were hitting the production line Drum kits with items other than the drum sticks as hard as possible, and they still didn't break. Naturally at launch, you'd be getting some sort of defect- it even happened with the Guitar Hero 3 Launch. At least Harmonix and EA Acknowledged there was a problem and responded accordingly, unlike Activision.

I'm glad I'll never be buying this game
