Uncharted demo now region free

PS3 News | Well, what are you waiting for?
Chalk this up as a win for PAL gamers. A few days ago a demo for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was released on the US PlayStation Store. Those in non US regions logged onto their US accounts and downloaded the demo only to find out it was region locked. We then got the announcement yesterday that the demo was coming on November the 22nd for PAL regions.

Those who don't want to wait should be happy today, with a statement from Christophe Balestra, co-president of developer Naughty Dog on the PlayStation Blog. According to Balestra/ the region restriction was merely an oversight, which has now been fixed. To get the demo to work you'll need to download it again, but Naughty Dog (and Sony's) response to the issue was certainly very impressive.

Thanks to Mipac for the heads up.

Yay, anyway I won't be downloading for some time.

I couldn't resist - had to play it - it's great, no spoilers either.

Everyone please download it and show your support for a GLOBAL PSN network!

I was devastated when I found out this demo wasn't region free but now Naughty Dog's quick action has ensured that Uncharted is a day one purchase for me. Great game!

I found there to be far too much combat and not enough exploring or puzzle solving (practically NONE)

So I won't be getting it. When I say too much, I mean way, way, way too much combat.

I dont know why but im just not really interested in downloading it. But i guess i should as this might be the game that brings me back to the ps3.

Blast, I do in fact have another 1.2GB this month. I don't get to be righteously indignant anymore. Ah, well, I'm off to kill me some pirates.

It's great! I wasn't sure if I thought Naughty Dog could do something like this but I'll be purchasing mine day one! I'm a big Naughty Dog fan and while it's totally different to Crash and Jak and Daxter it looks to be awesome! This is the first PS3 game that I've felt so positive about! Can't wait to get my copy.

This is amazing, they fixed up a demo that Pal users were downloading when they shouldnt've been in the first place? Honestly that's mind boggling! Awesome stuff Sony and Naughty Dog, I just hope the game lives upto my expectations cuz almost every other Ps3 exclusive hasn't (Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank: FTOD).

Yeah, I have to say that I'm most impressed that Naughty Dog responded to the issue so quickly when in all probability they didn't need to do a thing about it. Good form, and it gives me confidence that they will be reasonably quick to address any issues with the game after launch.

The game was pretty great, a bit too small but the minor details in terms of graphics, movement were good. And the use of the sixaxis when throwing grenades really made it easy for me. Definitely picking this game up.

Honestly I think it will be fine. If there were more puzzles, it would quickly get frustrating Id imagine, to be constantly stopped in your tracks.

The number of enemies I'm pretty sure has been increased to extend the adventure by a few hours. Looks as though they played through it a few times and felt it was a bit short.

Don't forget for those who are concerned that there is too much combat, there'll be jeeps and jet skiing and a few other things in there to keep it different.

I wouldn't judge it based just on the demo, the game starts off with about 45 minutes of puzzle solving, then about 45 minutes of combat (this is the demo part) and then you get a bit more of a mixture.

I found the demo really good, a nice mix of combat, shooting and platforming. The controls are really intuitive, the animations are very good, everything looks very realistic (love the water). The opening was quite good, you learn a little about the characters and it sets a good pace for the demo.

Definitely buying this game.

Yup. For people who have only played the demo, download the trailers off PSN. You'll see there's a bit of variation.

I'm impressed how they blended the controls together, the melee combat, the shooting and the platforming. None of them really feels out of place. A lot of other games will have one good part while the others will feel kind of clunky. GTA definitely comes to mind. Driving was great but the shooting was ordinary.

The demo was essentially a chance to test the combat system and become more familiar with it before the game comes out without giving away too much of the story and it delivered.

'Shouldn't have been downloading in the first place'... debatable. Technically, maybe, but morally they have every right to. Sony 'shouldn't' have divided up the world into these nonsense regions, particularly on a system designed and 'sold' as region free. To divey up humanity into artificial digital 'zones' and then treat these zones with differing levels of respect/attention, deserves to ignored and worked around as the little immoral bit of ugliness it is.

This is a demo for the game - specifically, the US version. The system being 'region free' on games, and many therefore buying the US version, it follows that those outside of the US will need/want access to it in time for region free importing every bit as much as those within the US (particularly for preorders).

Hot damn this game is f**king fantastic!

Day 1 purchase from me. The action and the way Drake reacts towards enemy fire and such is just breathtaking. I find it incredibly immersive.

Are you kidding? So you're trying to say the PAL/NTSC formats are all Sony's fault? And the reason different countries speak different languages are Sony's fault aswell? Oh yea and also different classification systems for different countries....yea Sony's doing...

Like I said 'shouldnt've been downloading in the first place'...the content was not made/designed for people outside of the U.S so any issues you experience....tough cookies....the content was not meant for you! I honestly don't know how much clearer that can be?!

If Sony want to release an NTSC version of something because it has been optimised a bit quicker than the PAL version....well that's unfortunately something that we're going to have to deal with. Also I don't know where you're buying these machines that are being advertised as 'Region Free', mine very clearly says 'PAL' on the box and to the best of my knowledge the only other version to get has 'NTSC' on it.
