Uncharted demo region locked

PS3 News | Let's hope this applies only to the demo.
Yesterday as part of the PlayStation Store update the demo for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was released on the American PlayStation Store. The Australian PlayStation Store was updated but a demo for Drake's Fortune was conspicuously missing.

Australians missing out on demos isn't a new thing, so a lot of people have created an American PlayStation Store account to download these demos. Those who did so today got a bit of a shock, with the demo coming up with a message to insert a disk to proceed.

Kotaku contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America about the locking and they confirmed that the US demo "does not allow for cross-region play". According to Kotaku the Sony spokesperson stated "the Japanese and PAL demo will both be released soon, but we don't have confirmed release dates".

Chances are that good news will be along the lines of "European and Japanese demos will be on their respective PSN stores in the next few weeks! We hope you enjoy them!" icon_shifty.gif

But hey, please prove me wrong Naughty Dog! I'll be willing to admit being wrong if it means I get to play the demo for Uncharted sooner!

Sounds like a technical glitch as opposed to an region restriction.

I love the amount of outrage from non U.S. customers because it just confirms the fact that everyone is downloading stuff from any region! I reckon Sony and Microsoft would've restricted that if they had know so many people would be doing it but now it's gotten so out of hand that if they dare to take it back it'll be war!

I don't really care for demos myself, I only tend to download games for games that I know I won't buy but interested in the graphics/sounds etc.

This is a f****** disgrace. Does it really have to happen to my most anticipated game of the year?

Where can I go to complain?

Im ready to wage WAR!!!!!!!!!!!

I tell you what, if the game is region coded, there will be WAR.

I cant understand why in hell the console is region free for games and region specific for demos etc. There should be a global store for free things (after all demos only promote an item, they dont cost anyone money or sales) and fine by me for purchases if they wanna keep them region specific.

Demos, region locked, I dont understand.

Yep its a load of crap and the reasons they give us are pretty poor.

The real reasons I think are

- demo is marketing material, so its given a set period before the release of the game, and the australian release is later than the US, therefore we get the demo later. For the people working in the marketing department, if they don't report accurate figures on downloads and preorder sales then they haven't done their job, so because of them, the gamers have to suffer.

- as this is a popular game, it would cause alot of chaos on the US Sony servers.

Im not sure if there was an ulterior motive for Sony to release region free games in the first place. I am hoping they did it for the hardcore gamers out there. One reason may be to ensure better compatibility with PSP games as they are also region free.

But region free is definitely the way to go. I find that word of mouth no matter how early is always a good thing.

Ahahahah, this is so funny. I didn't expect something like this to happen, but here it is, another reason why I'm glad I imported a U.S PS3. I'll let you guys know what the demo's like.

Almost sounds like you're happy at other people's misfortune.

Report news properly, Sony didn't just say that it will be released on the Aus and Japan store in Due time. They said it wasn't something that either them or naughty dog were aware of and Sony has contacted Naughty dog and now Naughty dog are fixing it.

I realise that wasn't the best wording, but no, I'm not happy at other people's misfortune, just surprised really. Anyway, it's all good now.
