Devil May Cry 4 to be released in 2008

PS3 News | Out in February on 360 and PS3.
Activision has sent word though from Capcom's Gamers Day that the fourth instalment of the Devil May Cry series will be hitting retail shelves in February 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version is set to follow at a later date.

Though the character of Dante will be playable in Devil May Cry 4, new leading man Nero will take centre stage for the majority of the game. Also making appearances are Trish, Lady and other regulars from the Devil May Cry series.

Players will be able to execute fierce and elegant attack sequences using a combination of the Devil Bringer arm and Exceed gameplay systems, both of which have never been seen in the Devil May Cry franchise before.

Devil May Cry 4 takes place in the city of Fortuna and starts just as Dante gatecrashes a ritual being performed by the Order of the Sword, an ancient cult that reveres Sparda the devil warrior. Dante begins arbitrarily killing members of the Order, so Nero – hoping to protect his childhood friend Kyrie – confronts him head on in the ultimate challenge. After an intense showdown, Dante decides to leave the fight for another day. As Dante makes his escape, strange portals suddenly begin materialising across Fortuna. From these mysterious openings frightening demons begin appearing.

Devil May Cry 4 is promising to take full advantage of the graphical processing power of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and run at 60 frames per second. The game is also set to feature very detailed environments, eye-popping boss battles and the signature blend of guns and swordplay expected from the Devil May Cry franchise.

Awesome earlier than I expected.

Wonder how it'll control on the 360 pad, must be ok since Ninja Gaiden didn't feel too bad.

Will you guys be picking it up on the 360 or PS3?

360 for me, cause I have a 360. I might try it out on PC though.

PS3. It belongs on a PS controller.

So pumped for this game. Pumped up DMC3 combat engine = VERY good thing. 100+ hours of gameplay for me.

I wouldn't advise that...just look at EVERY single Capcom port to PC.

^ Yeah you're right but with controller support it shouldnt be bad as any console version.

Getting it on 360 without a doubt. Any game on both consoles goes to my 360 because the PS controller is an archaic piece of crap Sony should have dumped YEARS ago. Oh, and I lurve achievements - not to mention the PS3 has not once proven itself better on multi-games (and yes I know this was built for PS3 first).

I know many people who swear by the PS3 controller the only thing I'll take the 360 controller is a FPS. I can't imagine chaining combos on it as efficiently.

All I can say is that at least the 360 controller was built with some form of comfortability in mind! The PlayStation3/Dualshock/Whatever controller is just not comfortable in my hands and I really can't stand how light it is. Don't get me wrong I've been using it since the first Dual Shock and it works and I can use it - it's just old and not as modern as a controller should be. To each there own and seeing as I have the choice I'm happy!

I'll be getting it on PS3 once rumble comes back, unless there's some horrendous tacked on motion control. 360 pad has already displayed it's worthless for this type of game - dpad = must.

unless theres some new control scheme? anyone know? or same old dpad rocking like 1/2/3?

I'm exactly the opposite, the SIXAXIS is almost perfect for me (I think it could use longer prongs to hold on to and redesigned L2 and R2 buttons). Why I try to hold the 360 controller with my index and middle fingers on the shoulder buttons... well, I can't. There's nowhere for my pinkie and ring fingers to go, because I can't wrap them around the prongs, so they butt up against the underside of the controller. I have to squeeze it quite tightly to play anything with it. As for the weight, I agree that the SIXAXIS is too light, but once I'm playing a game with it it's the last thing on my mind.

So, if it it wasn't obvious, I'll be getting the PS3 version of DMC4. I cannot wait to play next-gen Dante, the new weapons from the IGN preview sound really cool, and Gilgamesh is the perfect gauntlet weapon.

Dudes the Playstation Controller is like in the Guinness Book of Records for Best Gaming Controller.

How is that possible? The left analog stick is in the wrong spot, it should be where the d-pad is (in my opinion, it's where my thumb naturally sits and as a result feels more comfortable).

Haha, it's pretty clear no one's going to win this hot little debate, so to each their own.

I've grown up with a dual-shock, and it's my controller of choice- everything else just feels weird. But hey, it's the devil you know, isn't it?

Probably terrible performance, missing graphical effects and bad controls.

I've seen many hold the 360 controller like this, or mention that they do and it's no wonder they complain about it being uncomfortable. Just because there are two buttons on top of the controller, doesn't mean two of your fingers have to be there ready to press them... I personally use my index finger for both the Triggers and the Bumper buttons, swapping between the two as I need to. Sure, sometimes these buttons 'clash' and it becomes a slight hassle trying to press both at the same time, but generally speaking you will be using one (trigger) or the other (bumper) at the one time and therefore it's no trouble. Much more comfortable too.

As for the controller debate that's going on in here, the Dual Shock (in its various forms) has always been comfortable to me and has been a joy to use over the years. However, after using the 360 controller and getting accustomed to how comfortable it is, the Dual Shock definitely needs to be replaced or redesigned. It is still comfortable, but god they could improve it too...

Madonna is listed as the most successful female recording artist in the music history and the highest earning female singer of all time in the 2007 Guinness book, doesn't mean everyone likes her music...

Personally I find that the staggered layout of the XBOX controllers far more comfortable for long periods than the parallel style of the Dual Shock (etc.) controllers.

This might be a problem for me....as much as I want the game on Ps3 if it is inferior in any way (which it proabably will be knowing the track record so far) then i'll be getting the 360 version. I know the game is way more suited to the Ps3 controller (quick button presses are much easier with Ps3 controllers) but i'm not hardcore like Frozen so I won't be completing it on S ranking in Dante Must Die or anything so hopefully the 360 control pad will suffice.

I really hope both games are identical (and I mean EXACTLY the same....graphics/sound/gameplay....all of it) cuz if i'm not mistaken the Ps3 version has been in development a bit longer so hopefully that has given then some time to figure out the quirks in the Ps3 hardware...although the Ps3 port of Lost Planet has me a little worried in this department.
